The high abrasion on your tracks is a result of using an angle grinder for scraping. With scraping and then stoning the surface that shouldn't occur. Without addressing this you'll just cut up that plastic.

Yeah I was with him till he started putting plastic on the ways. All lathes have steel on steel beds and the only difference here being as you say the surface finish of the ways.
Running a stone over would help. But also most lathes beds are hand scraped with a carbide tip hand scraping tool and oiled well.

I was thinking that this might affect the accuracy compared to the plain steel - but I think with the weight of the carriage it’s probably not going to make a big difference? It looks very smooth!

      Wear will be a problem

Благодаря большой площади пластика всё должно работать стабильно. Спасибо за хороший вопрос.

Well thought out. I like when you work you progress along to better methods of performing the work. Your brass rivets started out a little bit difficult and as you progressed you did them in a very intelligently.

It's been a year. How are these plastic parts? Are they affect the accuracy of the lathe?

so much trouble, all you had to do is use moglice

Were do you source all ur steel? Here in the states all that steel would be so expensive. It would be cheaper to buy a really good lathe

1kg 25cents at the metal collection point all the metal from there.

    why plastic and not brass?

Просто интересно. И у этого пластика коэффициент трения меньше.

or even bronze gibs? I'm thinking plastic won't work well, if it manages to stop vibration, then the whole lathe bed won't help with dampening chatter
