Good show Papa Leroy! I have not had surf fish fried, we always brined it and either smoked it or dried it for crunching with beer. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting!

Nice meeting you at the More than Fishing tournament Leroy! I like your vids! Thanks for showing how to butterfly them! My previous experience with grunion left me thinking that if the spine were removed prior to eating, the texture would be vastly improved!

That was a fun and very informative video guys. The grunion looked delicious and the tips for prep / frying are super helpful. I’ll need to practice on mackerel or sardines for a bit, I’d likely mangle a tiny fish like that right now. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks! I like the name of your channel! I guess if I had a Japanese name it would be “ Niku Tarashi”, lol! My mom’s name for me when I was young!

Dang Leroy. I can tell that wasn’t your fist time filleting a grunion. 😂 I can’t believe how you filet and prep all of those fish. Id be there all day trying to do what you did. The end result looked absolutely delicious though. All that hard work definitely paid off. Awesome vid!!

If you ever go out to catch these wonderful tasting fish. Make sure you allow the first half hour of fish to come and go without being disturbed. These are called "scouts". If too many are taken the females will move on to a safer area to send the scouts in again. So be patient, they will come by the tens of thousands.

Yup some people are too impatient and potentially spoil the run. Keep lights off if possible and don't run up and down the beach. The vibrations thru the sand can spook them.
Limit is 30 per person now too.

Your passion, knowledge and wholesomeness while cooking is an absolute vibe. I’m assuming you guys live on the east coast? Loving the content and subbing from Canada 🇨🇦 I’d absolutely love to see a steak next haha

Do you eat the roe? You can fry it or toss it in some soy. I like using the back end of a disposable chopstick the clean the black lining/blood out.
