don't read the old testament using Chrisitan morality.... This is always the error of many atheists and non christians...There is such a thing as Divine Pedagogy...God reveals the Truth and morality little by little through different stages of development....Like a Father guiding the child how to walk...And then how to ride a bike...And then, how to drive a Car...
Even the relationship is like a father...The father is strict during the childhood....The Father is even more strict during Teenage years...By the time the Son becomes mature, the relationship now is heart to heart...
This is how God treated Israel...

A rather minor point, but... camels are mentioned in this narrative a couple of times. I think I just read somewhere that archaeologists have recently determined that there were no camels in that part of the world at that time. So the story must have been written centuries later when camels were known of.

    • @AC-gb7do
      @AC-gb7do 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Camels are mentioned as pack animals in the biblical stories of Abraham, Joseph, and Jacob in the Bible. But archaeologists have shown that camels were not domesticated in the Land of Israel until centuries after the Age of the Patriarchs (2000-1500 BCE). In addition to challenging the Bible’s historicity, this anachronism is proof that the text was compiled after the events it describes, according to researchers.
But it is the mention of camels, in Exodus 9:3, that blows the game entirely:
Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep; there shall be a very grievous murrain.
This is a reference to the fifth plague, whereby God would smite the Egyptian (but not the Israelite) livestock with a deadly epidemic. Including camels among the herds implies that camels were beiung bred in Egypt at the time, which in turn would mean that their bones, hair, and dung should be turning up in significant quantities in Egyptian deposits. The fact that they do not is an irreconcilable difference between the document and the archaeology. Equally damning is the mention of Job’s herd of six thousand camels (Job 42:12) at the impossibly erarly date of 2100 BCE according to conventional Bible chronology. Details like these, however, tie in very well with mainstream scholars’ contention that the narratives were written down and compiled no earlier than the seventh century BCE, when camels had become commonplace.

I have never once been interested in what the Bible had to say past the age of 10, when I started giving a side eye to my Sunday school teacher 😂
Even then, what I read from the Bible, which was confusing and then the explanation or the interpretation of that confusion, I guess meant to clear it up, sparked a flame of "Are you F#cking kidding me" guess I was too skeptical or had too much critical thinking for my age, but I walked away and never looked back...now I know why...goodgolly

  • @DuranHands17
    @DuranHands17 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Everything you bring up here is a valid point. And for the sake of not typing out a ridiculously long comment, I’ll keep my offer of perspective to this:
Abram deserved absolutely NOTHING that God did for him here. I repeat, NOTHING. This and other characters are not a testament to God rewarding evil behavior with blessings and favoritism no matter what but rather a testament to how unbreakable God’s Word is to him. Just verses prior you see God making this covenant with Abram, stating he was going to bless him and his descendants. Notice there were no other conditions of behavior aside from Abram taking his family and leaving to where God was leading him. Yes, Abram belonged to a specific bloodline leading back to Noah, and I believe God chose to elect within that bloodline and not any other human because that bloodline knew and had a relationship with God. Therefore, could hear and know it was God speaking to them. You’ll see countless other stories of men turning their ear from God and hardening their hearts to his outreach. People do it today. But I’ll bet you there wasn’t one fully innocent person on the face of the Earth at that time or anytime for that matter. So the choices remain fairly even in terms of “deservingness”.
But, try this, rather then saying this God is unjust and rewards evil, you can say “this God does not break his word even when the other party screws up. He is as merciful and patient as can be”. Because He is!
God intervened when Abram didn’t deserve it because letting Pharoah keep his wife destroys the possibility of Abram gathering the nation of people God promised him. He certainly wasn’t going to do it with anyone out of Abram’s marriage because that would destroy the sanctity of what marriage is to God. As time goes on, you see God working on Abrams heart and showing him what future was going to come from his seed, ultimately the One to come which was and is Jesus Christ. The only fully righteous person to walk this earth and one who died and was resurrected to restore that relationship with God. There’s more to this obviously but you see throughout the OT that God let flawed people in on his cosmic plan to redeem all of mankind back to Himself. People like you and me. And just so you know, we are all flawed, every single one of us. But those people weren’t judged based on mistakes but allowed to respond to what God was trying to do in their hearts. Some tragically knew God in the beginning and decided to become reprobate out of pride and some, stumbled their way through it but never took their eyes off of God, Whom never took His eyes off of them!
Whenever I read about a flawed character that was used by God in the OT I always remember “This is why Jesus came into the world. This is why we need God. Because if it was left to our devices, we would all be ruined eternally”.
Where it gets sticky is when mankind throws their “I’m right, your wrong, you better get with it or you’re going to Hell.”ness into the teaching of the Gospel. We call this “Religion”. And it really messes everything up. It’s the biggest hindrance in the Church today. As soon as you start taking the position of doing something to earn Gods favor/ right standing instead of learning who God is and letting his Spirit guide you to the understanding of his true character and LOVE, then it all just becomes powerless, legalistic, suffocating, stinky religion. And it turns people the heck off and, at best, allows for a bleak outlook on life.
Anyways, I ended up going long anyways. Forgive the brevity of structure and grammar mistakes. I’m more of a talker haha. God Bless!

There is a Christian channel in Brazil that produces biblical soap operas.
They produced a version of the Ten Commandments.
    Now, they are airing Genesis.
They bought some traditions from Talmud, and even Babylonian myths.
The funniest part is when they shown Lucifer as an angel
You know, the classical history of fallen angels.
    Guess what happened.
DINOSAURS appeared out of nothing, BEFORE the whole creation history.
They literally said that the meteor that killed the dinossauros was actually fallen angels!
    Then, God created everything.
Something funny is that the serpent in the garden looked like a salamander before the curse hahahah
They made a lot of daughters for Adam and Eve prior to Abel's death, and for everyone's sanity, they skipped the genealogy part.
They always shown the not so important guys as bad.
Cain was a stubborn and rebel teenager.
His offering, according to the opera, was rotten fruit.
Then we had Noah's and the classical flood history.
His son, Ham, was a man that had rebel behavior against God.
His wife induced him to have this behavior.
Then we had the Tower of Babel.
They bought some mesopotamian myths, like Semiramis, Nimrod, the ideia she got pregnant with her son, etc.
After that, they bought some traditions from Talmud, like the life of Terach, his living in Ur, the idea that he was an idol merchant and the idea Abram was utterly against it.
Then, we have the migration from Ur, the settlement in Haram, and now Abram got the message from God.
I want to know how they will conclude it.
I think it will end with the biding of Isaac.
Overall, genesis is a boring book. Only the first 25 chapter are interesting.
And the same television channel already made a soap opera about Joseph from Egypt.

Most people in the world, throughout the ages of history, have believed in some concept of a Supreme Being. They may have had a perverted sense of Who that Being is, but they were convinced that there is a Personal Power greater than man. Given the evidence available, faith is reasonable. That is why the psalmist declared: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). The Hebrew word for “fool” suggests one who is not thinking rationally...
