    I just saw a rerun of an episode of Jeopardy yesterday and noticed The Friendly Athiest himself as a contestant! I was grinning ear to ear when you answered damn near all of the Bible category questions. I laughed a little extra when you sort of corrected another guest's incorrect answer of "what is Revelation(s)?" Anyway, jeopardy aside, this series is amazing. Thank you!

    Depending on the exact timing "Egypt" included a lot of the lands mentioned in Genesis. So travelling to Egypt may have been a short distance, possibly zero.

    • @oscargordon
      @oscargordon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During the period of time that the Genesis and Exodus stories were supposed to take place the Egyptian Middle Kingdom included Sinai and certainly up to Gaza. Hittite, Mitanni, and Assyrian Empires all converged in and around Canaan. I'm not sure How stable the boundaries were between the various empires at that time.

    • @osaomoragbon7852
      @osaomoragbon7852 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your explanation of the distance would have been acceptable if, in the very next book, Exodus did not establish a vastly larger distance to/fro Egypt.

    • @bazzahill6182
      @bazzahill6182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@osaomoragbon7852 The problem is that for the likely time of Moses leaving Egypt, Moses escaped from Egypt to ... Egypt. Sea routes were well established in the Mediterranean, so distance should not have been a problem. After a quick reference to maps of the Egyptian kingdom sizes, 1500 - 200 BCE Egypt included what is now Israel, though definitions are always a problem. The Old Testament was written about 500 BCE, so it seems possible the journey time to Egypt from what is now Israel was zero. These are folk tales (morality tales) so facts should not be allowed to get in the way of a good story.

    • @oscargordon
      @oscargordon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@osaomoragbon7852 What Bazza said. They were making a joke. Traveling from Memphis to Jerusalem meant you were traveling from Egypt to Egypt. There were two major trade routes, the Via Maris along the sea, and the King's Highway which was inland. Google maps won't calculate a route using the Via Maris because the border is closed at the Gaza Strip. From Memphis to Jerusalem taking the King's Highway is 454 miles, about a 2 to 3 week walk for a fit person.

    It's one of these things in the narrative of the bible that made it that the belief never stuck on me. God was supposed to have picked a favourite people. Not the god of all people, but just this one tribe amidst great civilisations of their time, and like the cargo cult they are they borrow and steal narrative and traditions from everybody they encounter.

    • @markferguson6194
      @markferguson6194 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi it was not a box of Rose's being part of the chosen tribe. They were slaves for 420 years with no rights, working 7 days a week, being raped and murdered at a whim however the upside was they came out of that and essentially married God as seen in exodus 19 and 20(pentecost). The 10 commandments is actually a prenuptial agreement. The church also had its pentecost in acts 2 and Jesus used marriage talk regularly. In a Jewish wedding the betrothed groom leaves his bride for a period of time and builds a room on his father's house and around a year later he comes with his friends blowing shofar to announce his arrival and meet his bride and the whole possession goes back to the father's house where they celebrate the coming togeather of the couple.....When Jesus left he said " I go to prepare a place for you" he used the parable of the 10 virgins to illustrate this as well. While the couple were apart the friend of the groom passed messages between the bride and groom which is why Jesus left the Holy Spirit on planet earth when he left and it's that one fact that separates Christians from all other religions and people on the earth today. Sadly much of the church has become a religious institution based on an intellectual view of the bible and ignores the Holy Spirit entirely however there are many Christians who still enjoy the presence of God and the Holy Spirit today. I could go on for hours about all this stuff and how wonderful the Holy Spirit is

      Hi Sandra, the bible was never meant to be read. It's meant to be lived and we do this by meditating on it and allowing the Holy Spirit to change our hearts so we live it. Most of the Christian church western world has portrayed Christianity as an intellectual religion where we learn lots. There is nothing more exciting than living it. For 57 years I used to bite my fingernails until I started to live 1 cor 14v4 and jude 20 and one day i just stopped. I no longer get anxious and everyday i sing inside. It's the only book written were you need the authors help to understand and live it

      Hi Kevin, At the beginning of Gensis you will see that men and women were designed to live forever. (we still live our lives like there is no last day) but as a result of disobeying a law Dont eat the fruit off that tree) the entire human race ends up dead so the answer to your question is billions however that's exactly why Jesus died on the cross, he legally paid for Adam's mistake and restored mankind back but we ourselves still die (as Jesus did)as our bodies are still cursed but if we allow Gods spirit to work in us then we like Jesus are given s new eternal body. The cost of this is that we have to turn from living a selfish life how we want and start to live it with the help of the Holy Spirit and just as Jesus did, give up our lives to help others. Hope this helps

    Not sure that motive an atheist has when he study's the bible. Certainly isnt going to be a balanced look at the bible. He should get back to practicing being an atheist exploiting other human beings and living in greed, anxiety, fear. God isnot someone you have a belief about. I live in his presence and his Holy Spirit lives in me and has done a great job of filling me with love,joy and peace. I even stopped biting my finger nails after biting then for 57 years. @@chrissonofpear1384 hi Chris, when Jesus walked the earth he did not try to overthrow the roman empire but the roman empire ultimately fell apart. The US is no different and the cracks are beginning to show. No country can exist based on a system of greed and fear and elitism, all that's happening is just s reaping of a harvest so yo speak. Democracy has been dead In most of the world and its run my an elite group of very wealthy people and we just do as we are told under the veneer of democracy. History shows that most empires and dominant political systems have always had a balance. E.g communism and capitalism. With the demise of communion we have seen capitalism go unchecked creating a very powerful world system based on greed, control and fear. This system is going to be challenging by a new form of government that has not been seen for several thousand years based on caring for one another, peace and joy and will herald the return of Messiah (if u r a jew) and Jesus if u r a Christian. The fact Israel exists as a country is testament of this fact. As for the powers the devil has, well hes a spirit and has no body so his power is somewhat limited to deceiving the nations and useing our own human weakness to steal,kill and destroy ourselves. I would imagine that the US will continue to deteriorate with unrest spreading to other countries as well

Anyone can call themselves a Christian and many have for political reasons and there own selfish goals but submission to the Holy Spirits power is submission to a wonderful life of selflessness and is based around love,joy and peace. This hasn't changed, there are plenty of church leaders today who's only motive is money and power but I wouldn't want to be one of those people on the other side of eternity. Find a bible and read acts 2v42 to 47 and acts 4v32 to 37. That's what Christian culture should look like and that is what the Holy Spirit is going to restore to his Church soon.
