  • Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey just discovered the decades-old Brick Bible, created by Elbe Spurling.
She can't believe it depicts God as "cruel and merciless." (She's so close to getting it...)

I actually met my wife at "church" (I use the term loosely, and I'm sure you've seen ones like that), and that was 22 years ago, but the pastor and his wife were the ones talking the most shit about us. I grew up very fundamentalist southern baptist. My family had the regular adult version of this book for me and my little sister. We had the old and new testament. Never once did my parents think it was a bad thing. They just thought it was funny to depict the more non-pg parts of the bible in a more interesting and pg format as an educational tool. But they had a much better and darker sense of humor than most fundamentalist parents seem to. I actually really appreciate that about my parents. They never tried to soften the bible to make it more palatable for kids. Ironically that led me to where I am today, but I really do appreciate their honesty a lot.
It's kind of funny though that the VBS accidentally gave that kid the adult version. Me and my sister were getting the adult version the whole time. I clearly remember thinking the blood bricks were very well done and creative.
I'm not sure what the personal life of the author has to do with anything, except maybe that she's an atheist and was at the time of making the book. It's still a good book for religious people to use imo.
Edit: I hope the author sees this comment and knows she's appreciated by many people in many walks of life. My family are no longer fundamentalists (They're just normal Christians. I'm an atheist.) and they would probably be happy to know that the author is trans, as my sister is too and she's got an entire room in her house dedicated solely to legos. It's pretty cool to see this book being brought up again because it's such a nice memory from my childhood, despite not having the kid version lol. Much love and appreciation to the author! I hope she's doing well! ♥️

They don't. This particular type of "Christian" came about because of the Cold War. States engaged in a very strong anti-atheist push because the USSR made religion illegal. (This is also where the concept of the US being a Christian nation came from, as well as when we started adding "In God we Trust" on our currency.)

@@TryssemTavern Good points. I was raised with "God and Country" as a constant refrain in my ears. As a 7th day Adventist, I wanted the separation because it would lead to persecution of my particular denomination. Now as an atheist, I want the freedom to not follow any religion. My mom said voting republican was part of her religious duty when she was alive. Make of that what you will. In my case, it was the opposite. Which, to my mind, means, no one has a religious duty to vote any particular way. Vote for the person who supports the policies you see as desirable. While I remember the cold war, and was in the military for 4 years during that time, it never struck me as being particularly religious in nature. So, you are probably seeing something I failed to pay attention to. Philosophy is not something I'm good at. One thing I will say. Why did we put on our money a Nazi saying so soon after WWII with that fresh in our mind. I just don't comprehend that.
Edit: Just FYI, I was raised fundamentalist independent baptist, and after I left home became non-denominational, and later 7th Day Adventist. After I read the bible clear through several times, and looked for evidence of my beliefs, finding none, I became an atheist.

It sounds like Allie has a problem with reading comprehension. Her issue is with the pictures not the text since it is accurate. It seems that she could read the words without visualizing the meaning of those words and that is troubling. That said she is throwing around some serious defamation from what you said. Calling it theologically unsound and blasphemous when it is not and then accusing the author of unfounded conspiracy could be a legal issue in reality though it does not seem to be worth pursuing if it boosts sales and starts another run of purchases. What I want to know is where did she get those figures with all of those expressions and also all the varied hair do types? Were those hand made for her project one by one?
