Can a F-22 beat nine warbirds? Yes. Can a GR pilot in a F-22 defeat 9 warbirds? No.

This is actually one of my favorite things to do in DCS. Just taking a modern jet up against multiple WW2 prop planes. Helps you appreciate how far technology has come yet how formidable the WW2 birds can be.
It's been a fun year, Wargames 33 (Battle Of Kasserine Pass) was my first video and I've watched since then!

These missions remind me of playing Chuck Yeager's Air Combat in the 90s. Flying an F-4 against Messerschmitts etc. Extend, turn in and drop one or two in a pass then repeat.
I absolutely loved that game. Bought my first computer just to play that game.
Warbirds vs. F-16, maybe. Especially a Mustang, Spitfire, Bf-109, and FW-190. Bonus points for a P-47, and P-38(If available)!!!
cap is getting smarter with the vertical. no need for afterburner if you avoid loops. climb in a lazy spiral @ M0.85 and you're golden. ammo is the limiting factor.
Would love to see more pairs, v Warbirds with Kortana's crew added, and change up the modern jets by generations. I think it would make a nice series showing the evolution of effectiveness... AND you all seem to enjoy this set up.

Hey Cap, I did some quick research and the price of each warbird, as produced in 1945, adjusted for inflation is as follows:
P-51: $843,266
P-47: $1,405,642
Spitfire: $490,511
Bf-109: $283,817
I couldn't find a price for the 190.
That's cheap for what you get in the 109
Edit: but probably different economic surroundings then in Germany compared to GB and the USA.

How does cap break the Mustang so fast, after the engine updates the last few months, the P51 engine actually takes quite a bit of punishment, same with Spit.

This is close to a swarm of Sky Wardens vs a 5th gen, but I bet it would be a lot more interesting if those ww2 birds were data linked in with an AWACS and had their own sidewinders to shoot at the Raptor 😂
The M3 .50 caliber machine gun was not really used during WW2, it was mostly jet age. (Rex's Hangar YT channel) but the M2 aircraft configuration was used almost exclusively for guns in US planes. It has a higher rate of fire (600 rpm) than the M2HB (heavy barrel) used on trucks, tanks, and tripod mounts for infantry.

Correction Raptor “in game” can’t turn with warbirds. Thrust vectoring raptor can definitely out turn them.
Not for very long tho because u dump almost all ur energy to do that

Loved the video! But I think it would have made more sense to use a 4th generation jet aircraft designed for dog fighting. The F-16 and Su-35 come to mind.

What you needed was a fully loaded F15. Then the war birds are f’d.
This makes me miss taking out out MiG-21’s and MiG-15’s with a Mustang on Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat. About as basic graphics as you can get and have a playable game but boy was it fun.
Taking the battle high was going to be an advantage. Of course, with thrust vectoring it would be the Marianas Turkey Shoot.
I wonder if the game programming isn’t setup for missile damage on the War Birds. My guess is they would absolutely explode if shot in real life.
@Cancer McAids my assumption is that thrust vectoring works at any speed to aid in maneuverability. If it reduced the turn radius at any speed it might be an advantage in a turn fight.
The biggest issue was the numerical superiority. There simply wasn't a way to kill that ratio. Good video and good discussion. Thanks!
A warbird's fuselage is mostly filled with empty air and duralumin structural framing.
Blowing holes throigh it wont deal any significant damage unless you hit the engine, the pilot, or set the fueltanks on fire.
The most danger a missile poses to them is probably from the shockwave potentially sending them into a spin.
Combined Arms: 1 Abrams against a horde of WW1 era tanks. I love combined arms.

Irl this fight would be a turkey shoot. The 22 would just hang out and fire amraams from 30 miles away. Then if they ran out, they would just turn around and run to re-arm.
In a modern fight with no restrictions, the warlords would not stand a chance. Each would be taken out from miles away by a missle.

In the Raptor we would fly as a double, one at 40k feet, look down radar. One down low doing s turns until a visual is seen, then low would go high, and vice versa. Take out the hot engine in a climb.

Right off the start at 2:45, I would have gone vertical. Very cheesy but the service ceiling of the raptor would be way higher than the warbirds.

I decided to do some silly look up:
A P-51D Mustang in today's dollars sells for 590 grand if you bought it off the production line. Back then, that translates to 51 grand roughly in 1945 dollars. A dollar went a LONG way back then.

I mean if you cripple the raptor enough I suppose it is possible. You made it so it can't get any altitude advantage, it can't go away from you, it doesn't have enough missiles because is is in a stealth configuration even though it can't get BVR. I get it you guys really like WWII planes but this is just nonsense. An F-22 would absolutely be capable of taking out all 8 of those planes. DCS also allows an AMRAM to hit a WWII plane and not destroy it, which is just complete bs.
In the real fight, the F22 would never bee seen by the WWII planes and they would all die from missiles before they even knew they were in a fight.
@@cancermcaids7688 a 70 lb warhead hitting a plane at well over the speed of sound is not the same thing as old world war II flak fire Also, the realism of the game is less of a problem than they're clearly biased setup in order to favor the outcome they want.

With those advantages the only thing that could defeat a Raptor is fuel, amount of ammo and over confidence of the pilot to manage the swarm.
Swarming maybe the tech of the future. Thousands of cheap drones would be difficult to defeat like Star Trek Beyond.

I was just going to say the same thing! Why on earth the Raptor pilot would tangle with the warbirds is beyond me. I feel the correct strat here is to nuke the birds form orbit then boom and zoom guns. The other option is to fire fox3s from the soup so it masks the smoke trail. Radar is your friend.

F-22 weighs 20 tons empty.. with a full load out that things pushing 35tons.. Still a beast though!
A real F-22 vs 9 WWII era warbirds should be a baby seal clubbing event. You would get close to one kill per missile, and the first warning the warbirds get would be when at least one off them blows up (after being fired out from dozens of miles away). Even with with guns the F-22 is much faster level, diving, or climbing, and has better situational awareness with radar. so it could just pick its angle and pick off the warbirds. Also on a it could take more damage than any of the warbirds (which doesn't seem to be modeled well in DCS) and can dish out more damage even with just its cannon.
need to add some ww2 naval ships with flak for the full experience

single f22 in stealth trim is cutting it close beacuse f22 only carry 4+2 sidewinder and aim120d in its stealth aa loadout it will have to do 3 kills with its guns and it will most it will likly run out of gun ammo since it only has about 12 seconds of cannon burst fire.
What about replacing the Raptor's cannons with laser cannons.

The F-22 mod GR flies doesn't have thrust vectoring right? An F-22 in DCS might actually be able to turn with a warbird if it could vector its thrust. Might as well just use an F-15. It carries more missiles anyway. If you can't turn with the warbirds, a missile truck is the best option. Either put the F-22 in murder spec, or use an F-15EX. Anything else is basically a guaranteed warbird win.
Growling Sidewinder repeatedly clowned a Spitfire in turn fighting using a thrust vectoring variant of the F-22 mod... but he's the only one who seems to have access to it.
