  • For 2022 Mercedes has come out swinging and with the new C-Class they are at the top of their game. Thanks to an all-new interior, a new engine, the latest safety systems and more, the C-Class might just be the best compact luxury sedan in America. Assuming you can afford one because there's "more MSRP" for 2022 as well.

      @@Channel-gz9hm Red signals use the brake lights why?? When there is a separate amber signaling light visually vise esthetically vise safety vise amber is just better.
      I mean nothing is uglier than Audi's running red signal with brake light blinking.
      Especially now when supply chain issues are a big issue you need two different solutions for no reason.
      I am not being picky, so I am not even bringing up the topic of rear fog lights which in North American versions are not equipped simply because I guess it would cause confusions. Or remote mirror folding or adaptive front light control.. etc.

    Hate the shapeless grille and the generally puffy, melted look of the front end. A few sharper character lines would have really helped. The droopy beltline is right out of the 1st gen CLS, and is getting tired. The back end looks bland and stubby, with a trunk opening that is too small. It isn't terrible, but it has little character, just a generic Mercedes look. I liked the last C-Class better, inside and out, though the increased rear-seat room is nice.

    • @Wised1000
      @Wised1000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The hybrid is a mild hybrid with the emphasis on mild. Its primary job is to maintain performance while shrinking the engine. It essentially banishes lag. Any effects on milage are mostly attributable to smaller displacement. The Hybrid system also runs electric versions of other parasitic systems like AC and water pump thus increasing overall efficiency by a few additional percentage points. For example, in my GLS 580 the overall contribution of the 48V systems is about 2 mpg overall. On this much smaller and lighter vehicles it saves more because those parasitic loses are much more significant for a small engine. You will notice that Mercedes really doesn't raise a lot of brouhaha about its hybrid efficiency its all about the power.

    Over $60K is right in nearly loaded M340i and S4 territory. Those will smoke this thing, though, they are obviously not quite as luxurious. Most M340i owners claim they are getting around 32 MPG on the highway with the inline-6 that blows this MB engine away. I can’t imagine how expensive the comparable C43 is going to be if a base C300 is priced the same as the competition’s step-up models.

    18:06 " The interior is simply more premium compared to it's competitors "
    Quite the opposite is the case and I don't understand how you didn't notice that !
    The interior looks nice BUT the quality of the materials are a massive downgrade to most competitors and also to the previous model.
    Except for the upper dashboard and doors ALL other materials in the cabin are made of hard plastic !
    Middle console, side panels, glove compartment or storage area in the doors , ALL hard pack materials now.
    I have never heard of a car in this price range that had that many cheap quality materials in the interior.

    Really not a fan of the direction Mercedes took the C Class. It now has awkward outward proportions (especially from the side) and the glued on tablet interior looks cheap as oppose to the outgoing C class. Funny that a 3 Series 2.0L Turbo BMW with AWD is more efficient and faster than this hybrid C Class. I think the 3 Series and A4 interior looks more upscale than this new C Class. The C Class went from my favorite car in the class to my least favorite.

    Alex, I feel like you went out of your way to not make a substantive comparison to it's biggest rival - BMW 3 Series. Was there a reason why? When driving, you made comparison to non-direct competitors, ignoring the 3 series or A4. Then you end the video by saying its the best compact luxury sedan, even without a full test. What a I missing here?

    They used a 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder engine with a mild hybrid system, and they still added auto start/stop? Weird decision, IMO. Something I'd expect from a 6.2 V8, not a 2.0 4 cylinder.

    • @awib
      @awib 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mild hybrid system is there to smooth out the start stop system. I’d say all mild hybrid systems are used for that purpose to get rid of the lag from pressing down on the accelerator pedal to actually moving.

    • @1997nick
      @1997nick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well that's the whole point, Mercedes integrates the electric motor so that it can spin the engine to idle speed almost instantly. The M256 I6 has this and it's nearly imperceptible when it starts and stops.

    • @MylesV
      @MylesV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand what the issue is with that, start stop and light assist/regen are basically the definition of a mild hybrid system. The beefier electric motor makes the start stop system much smoother as the other replies mentioned. I don't know of any mild hybrid systems that don't enable start stop.

    • @markmiller3279
      @markmiller3279 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's to get the engine spinning faster from a stop. That helps eliminate initial turbo lag.

      Then don't. It's just the way the world is going. The fours are smaller, lighter, less expensive, more efficient, and plenty powerful enough. There will still be other performance models with sixes, even eights. I find this whole anti-four thing pretty silly, since it wasn't that many years ago when I was hearing the same thing about sixes. People swore they were horrible and inadequate and they'd never buy anything but a V-8. Funny how quickly people decided maybe those sixes weren't so bad.
