Overpriced for what you get. Rear looks like a Nissan Altima. You can get a Genesis G70 loaded with the V6 for 10k less! Or BMW M340 for about the same price. What’s the C43 AMG going to cost? 80k?!
The one thing I regret not getting in my 2022 C300 is the 3D surround sound package, my old 2019 CLA250 had amazing speakers and the stock speakers on the c300 granted I got other upgrades resulting in it being just under 50k, I wish the speakers were better, but thats also because I like listening to music in my car rides. But, what I have found myself doing with this new 2022 c class is I actually enjoy the ride all together to where I dont really listen to anything while driving since its like a mini S class
You mean your Mercedes C-class didn't come with the burmester sound system package? Cos I have being hearing it lately that due to chip shortage there won't be availability of Burmester sound system again in the Mercedes C- class. I don't really know how true
I do find myself cranking mine up often, but I somehow overlooked ordering the full ambient light package, so night time driving with both the Burmester 3D surround and the full active ambient lighting package would have been the ultimate. It is an enjoyable drive.
@@WriterandPhotographer yeah the ambient light is very nice having at night. Even though I only use 2 colors it makes all the difference when cruising around at night. Im looking in to getting me a new vehicle within the upcoming months and drove a 2024 loaner c300 and I love the 20 inch AMG wheels and low profile tire look, but the loaner had AMG wheels but standard tired and that made for an insanely smooth ride! At least here in Scottsdale with the crappy road conditions and pot holes every 30 feet the low profile tires you feel everything. What year is yours? And if you could get another vehicle soon any in mind/recommendations ?

Interesting to see this one - most expensive C Class I've come across yet. Also interesting to note, I think you missed a couple of things in your options game, including the multimedia package (HUD, navi, AR, $1,700) and the Sound Package ($650), as well as two individual options which are the enhanced ambient lighting and the wireless charging. My favorite piece of this is that your test car had the "rebuilt Parking package" which is $950, rather then the regular one which is $50 more, because this car was made without the GUARD360, essentially an alert through the app if the car detects damage wile parked. I also want to point out that the parking package, sound package, door sill illumination, enhanced ambient lighting, and wireless charging aren't available individually. They ae part of the Exclusive or Pinnacle trim. So there are some recent built chip shortage vehicles without the Sound Package or wireless charging, but you can't order a C Class with the just the parking package or door sills, or get an exclusive trim but skip out on the enhanced ambient lighting, even if they show up as separate on the build sheet/window sticker.
iNSIDE the transmission is a starter generator. I'd love to see a labor bill. They ought to bring the C200 to the US. It's a little ridicules at all Mercedes does to lower emissions instead of just making an I6.

@@MotoManTV Good. I'm still really looking forward to it. I know Mercedes has technically spun off its truck and bus division. However, Mercedes Benz Global still holds a massive stake in the company. That's important because with that 900v architecture, their trucks could have a competitive advantage in the market. In addition, Mercedes also has the X-class, the GLS, GLE, and the G wagon. All of those massive vehicles are going to need a big battery pack once they go electric. With that 900v architecture, their large electric vehicles are going to be hard for other companies to compete with. Furthermore, I know the Mercedes Sprinter and the Actross are offered as motorhomes. Motorhomes are going electric. Slowly. But, still. That 900v system in a motorhome seriously opens my mind up to the idea of renting an RV sometime.
Would like to see more balance of traditional buttons (with better quality, I don’t like the seat adjustments and the single bar at the bottom of the touch screen), improved mild hybrid as you mentioned, and please some real exhaust outlets on the back end.
I like the package and features, but I'm completely unimpressed with the powertrain and weight, especially for the price. Might as well take a short walk and buy a sensibly optioned E-class. I'm disappointed there isn't a long range phev or full electric option.
Those engines were highly inefficient. The 2.0L turbos are awesome engines, I am however confused as to why they added the 48v system when the outgoing c300 was technically quicker. Shoot my 2018 e300 is quicker 0-60 time. Also, when in Eco mode, the way the car drives is extremely close to S class level of smoothness. I work for Benz and have driven every car they make, I’d take the new engines over the old ones any day. Now for the GLE, definitely could’ve done with just being the 450 engine as the 2.0L does feel a little inadequate, still does 128 no problem, but definitely a little down on power compared to the 3.0 inline 6 EQ Boost engines.
Our '07 c280 had a 3L V6 engine. However our '23 C300 seems a lot more powerful. The mid hybrid engine is amazing. It did 6.5 L/100km, cruising at 1500 rpm on highway.

Are recent C-klasse or CLAs used as taxis and destined to be easily running up 500,000+ urban km like the old w123 (1970s) or w124 (1990s) ? Or are these now disposable cars to be abandoned after extended CPO warranty coverage ?
I know at this point it's like beating a slightly deceased equine; but the tablet stuck to the dash with ducktape design is unappealing. As for the options game: the rims were already tired in 1996 and now bicycle spokes are "exhausted", the line package is ok at half the price.

Just picked up a 2022 and like it quite a bit. Still annoyed that, even with the new "trims", Mercedes still nickels and dimes driver safety features (lane keep assist, adaptive cruise) - these were standard on my 2019 volvo, my 2017 x5 has them and even my work hyundai sonata has them standard. No reason for this car to not have them, at least in the exclusive trim and up. Additionally, the gauge cluster customization is extremely lacking.
It's definitely an amazing car new, however I'm curious to see in a few years how will all of this hybridization fair, especially seeing as how this might incur serious financial trouble to a person that happens to buy this car used and out of warranty.
now you have 2 things to worry about fixing, reason why hybrids are the worst of 2 worlds. Hate to think how much to replace the mild hybrid battery after the warranty. When was the last time you actually got longer life or duration promised from a rechargeable battery? My laptop and iphone says it is good for a day, why am I recharging them at 4pm?
@@YYZ-SRQ Yeah it sounds like it could potentially total an 8-10 year old C class easily, which will make it a very hard sell in the used car world if they don't get it right. It also seems unnecessary if it essentially will provide similar/barely noticeable benefits to last generation's ICE powertrain.
@@YYZ-SRQ that's false.. Most cars, especially Mercedes hybrids have 4 years warranty,.. More on batteries. (I think it was 7 years in Europe). You can buy more years. Mercedes have a lot of Kulanz (don't know the right word in english. It's when manufacturers give you the parts and the repairs for free or much cheaper, even if you are out of warranty). And: most Mercedes after many years have even then, a very high battery capacity. Don't hesitate. They are great. I drive Mercedes since a long time and I'm happy! No problems.. Very good service and customer expirience.. Now I drive a cla 4matic shooting brake 200d 4 matic , new model and before I had a e class 400 with every extra. I now wait for the c class with the big trunk 350de (diesel 2 Liter with a 100kilometers electric range. Expensive, but great! In 30mins it's almost fully loaded.. The interior is extremely nice and luxury. So much innovation.. The seats for example. You can select a mode that always changes slightly the seating position (without annoying you) for a healthier back, and it works great. It's called kinetic seats. The back wheels also turn slightly, what stabilizes the car in fast curves and makes it very fast and secure. If you drive slowly, the wheels at the back move in the opposite direction WICH makes the circle very small. The mbux system is such a great tool. The digital lights are amazing. You can project a walking strip on the roads or it warns you that a deer is even up to over 1 mile in front of you at the side of the road and projects a deer symbol on the street. (radar tech with digital light).. There is so much innovation. Really great car.

My insurance will pay what ever to fix my car and other person car if someone else was to be involved. Also they would pay for rental car for both parties. And that is. I just have to pay $ 500 and that's regardless if I had $10000 car or $ 100000 car
@@goran5530 I understand. My point is that eventually these extremely expensive components of newer vehicles will cause the price of insurance to rise over time. Teslas for example cost at least 10% premium for insurance just do do how long the repair times are for them.

Prices will naturally rise and to be honest if I can afford this car $ 400 per year more paying for insurance would not gravely affect me. Luxury cars cost and that's it. All of that expensive and likely unreliable technology just to get 23/33mpg? An M340i xDrive gets 23/32 and outperforms this in every way for the same price or possibly cheaper. What are manufacturers really trying to accomplish with all of the additional complication?
Great review like always. I agree with your suggested improvements. Permit me to say you are being too generous regarding driving dynamics. It. Is very uninspiring and not engaging to drive. Just got one and I already regret the decision. Should have gone with the BMW 330i with the M package. The capacitive buttons and the overcomplicated MBUX are really frustrating. Cest la vie.
Should in theory have the Toyota reliability we all know. My cousin now has the family 07 Camry Hybrid which I think is near 360000KM without any mechanical failures at all.

Start/stop tech, stop sign recognition, HUD, 360 camera, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, Lane centering with RCC, stop sign, light and speed sign recognition, cruise control recognizes curves and slows to your preferred speed adjustment... shall I continue?
it is beautiful, but I can't be a fan of this for the sake of me... Gotta love Mercedes.. sure, the car starts at $45.5k, they give you an engine, steering wheel and 4 doors. But, if you would like a Car under your royal butt, then shell out almost 20 GRAND in optional, now you have a "nice" car. A 4 cyl hybrid 255hp at $63k. Yeah it's Mercedes baby.... Can't be a fan of this, I will keep my Alfa Romeo Giulia for life. I know I will not have fans here either :)
I will say, the base C Class actually comes amazingly equipped. Only big thing I see missing is the adaptive cruise. The $20,000 in optinos are some nice hings but they don't largely make a massive difference, and you'll never see one on the lot this expensive. My local dealer has 50 there or on the way - about 45 of them are between 45-52k, and all very well equipped. The craziest ones top out at 56k. To be fair, none have the digital lights or nappa leather, but only the biggest C Class fanatic is going to insist on getting the 63k car.
@@benjaminkohl342 as someone who just ordered a c300, the 20 k in options is far off. We topped ours out at 58k that’s with every option checked. Making it closer to 11k in options. For reference my 2018 E300 has 20k in options 72k vs 53k base. I get what you’re saying but for 50k you’re getting a nice c class, I only want the other options because we’ve been driving nothing but Benz now for 3 years.
@@JamesCook76131 I've seen a few 63k C300s, with EVERY package selected. So, you can get 5-6k more then you have. But they have AMG Night package ($3400), big wheels ($600), selenite magno paint, ($3250), nappa leather ($2590), extra airbags ($700), extra insulation ($150), extra USB ports ($300), drivers assistant ($1700), pinnacle trim ($3950), etc. Plus you can add fancier wood for $200 and all sorts of port installed accessories. So yeah, I've genuinely seen cars with $18-19k in options, not inclduing mark up. Just their MSRP. That being said, with just a little restraint, I think $55k is still a great sweet spot.
@@benjaminkohl342 no dealership is going to order magno paint (I work for Benz) unless it’s a order unit, and you can’t get to 63k without get 4Matic, which here in the south, doesn’t get ordered unless customer orders it. So 58-59k is truly topping out the price. Also, 3d audio might be unavailable, won’t know until it actually hits production, still currently SNP (schedule not produced) so if 3d doesn’t come with it, the. They will issue at least a 1200-3000 dollar credit for missing equipment. Had to do similar things with S Class My 2020 C Class was 52k, and that was pushing it for non order units. Just my .02 though since I do have personal direct insight into Mercedes-Benz.
@@JamesCook76131 Oh, absolutely you aren'y gonna see dealers spec cars like there, these would be custom orders. But you can get a C300 4matic to 63k (maybe 64) and a C300 RWD to 61k (maybe 62) with magno, nappa, and VPC accessories which show up on the sticker. Heck, I even saw a C300 4matic with no exclusive or pinnacle trim, no distronic, the stadalone nav for $60k (4matic). So, I s=tand by my statement, you can put $18k in options on a C300 which is a lot closer to 20k then 10k. Also, if the car is missing the sound package and wireless charging, as recent production has, there is no credit issued, the option just isn't on the sticker. And it's not $1200 to $3000. It's $650 less on your sticker for the 3d audio, and $200 less for no wireless charging. The credits for missing standard are only for the kick to open trunk (D6M or D9B) or for a missing USB port, and theyre only $100 and $50 respectively. So with no sound packge or wireless charging, plus missing hands free access an 72B USB ports, plus no advanced USB package, take $1300 off the price. So, maybe RIGHT NOW you can only get a RWDb to 60k. Only $17k in options. Damn.
I am not crazy about the styling, especially the side of the vehicle...the doors are just boring. I love my 2020 C class with the AMG Night package as the doors have beautifully styling lines going through it. Also not a big fan of the screen used in the dash over the steering wheel. I assume the tires are not run flats...mine came with summer high performance run flats and I need to change the tires to winter ones in the North East.
This is a nice car, but it's hilarious how complex it is for seemingly no efficiency benefit. Those aren't great mpg numbers. I can't imagine what reliability will be like as they age.
I'll play for the blow-torch option, for sure -- that's a big value-add. In all seriousness though: I think all the capacitive "buttons" and iPad-style infotainment / HVAC controls makes this car a no-go for me. Auto manufacturers clearly don't care about distracted driving, nor what happens to you, when you do. This is nowhere near as safe as having physical buttons that you can press, without having to look, based on muscle memory. Anyway, I know this is the latest craze in automobiles -- and if it is, then fine -- I'll buy used from now on until auto manufactures come to their senses.

@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I do agree with that. How ever I have c200 2019 and I just bought eqc that I paid $158 000 and it does get some time to get used to for mercedes assistant. But I can say turn on seat heating or set temperature to 23 degrees and that works. For navigation or phone calls I use Android auto and that is done by Google and that works flawlessly. That's pretty much everything you need to use when driving: navigation, phone, sms, heating or cooling. Everything else is automatic in this car. Lights and wipers work alone what else do you need to be adjusting all the time when you are driving car
No mention about the ridiculous fake exhaust vents. A stupid trend started by VAG. Hate that everything is controlled by haptic control buttons on the steering wheel and touch center screen . Try to do the easiest and most used functions wearing gloves on a winter day
Now that even the Euros are using vinyl at their base prices, you simply cannot objectively argue there is a reason to buy this over a Camry XSE. For decades, at the very least you could say "well the luxury brand gives me leather and wood everywhere, I can't get that in a Toyota". Yes, at the mid to high end, the Euros are giving you a lot of what you can't get anywhere else----there's no real option to a S/7/A8 other than an LS and once they go V8, the LS can't follow. HOWEVER, at $55K? No, no way to justify this other than the badge. This is very high quality and you will be very comfortable and thrilled with all its tech, but if you spend a week with a Camry XSE you'll think "you know, I don't even need that badge, no one cares anyway and the $25K in my pocket feels really good".
Highly disagree. Have you driven a Toyota Camry recently? It's fine, but these are different things to drive. And look at. Absolutely, modern vehicles are closing the gap between lux and mainstream. But the camry, yes even an XSE, is a garish, poorly damped boring appliance, while the C Class has much better suspension tuning, noise insulation, a far superior infotainment suite, and way better steering.

I just got rid of my C43 Amg and yes expensive but the C Class doesn't depreciate like the S Class we did not loose a dime. We traded it directly to Tesla and they actually gave us a great trade in offer.

Just picked up a 2022 and like it quite a bit. Still annoyed that, even with the new "trims", Mercedes still nickels and dimes driver safety features (lane keep assist, adaptive cruise) - these were standard on my 2019 volvo, my 2017 x5 has them and even my work hyundai sonata has them standard. No reason for this car to not have them, at least in the exclusive trim and up. Additionally, the gauge cluster customization is extremely lacking.
For 50k you can get a pretty loaded model which will satisfy most. I don't see the point of creeping up to 65k.
It's definitely an amazing car new, however I'm curious to see in a few years how will all of this hybridization fair, especially seeing as how this might incur serious financial trouble to a person that happens to buy this car used and out of warranty.
now you have 2 things to worry about fixing, reason why hybrids are the worst of 2 worlds. Hate to think how much to replace the mild hybrid battery after the warranty. When was the last time you actually got longer life or duration promised from a rechargeable battery? My laptop and iphone says it is good for a day, why am I recharging them at 4pm?
@@YYZ-SRQ Yeah it sounds like it could potentially total an 8-10 year old C class easily, which will make it a very hard sell in the used car world if they don't get it right. It also seems unnecessary if it essentially will provide similar/barely noticeable benefits to last generation's ICE powertrain.
@@YYZ-SRQ that's false.. Most cars, especially Mercedes hybrids have 4 years warranty,.. More on batteries. (I think it was 7 years in Europe). You can buy more years. Mercedes have a lot of Kulanz (don't know the right word in english. It's when manufacturers give you the parts and the repairs for free or much cheaper, even if you are out of warranty). And: most Mercedes after many years have even then, a very high battery capacity. Don't hesitate. They are great. I drive Mercedes since a long time and I'm happy! No problems.. Very good service and customer expirience.. Now I drive a cla 4matic shooting brake 200d 4 matic , new model and before I had a e class 400 with every extra. I now wait for the c class with the big trunk 350de (diesel 2 Liter with a 100kilometers electric range. Expensive, but great! In 30mins it's almost fully loaded.. The interior is extremely nice and luxury. So much innovation.. The seats for example. You can select a mode that always changes slightly the seating position (without annoying you) for a healthier back, and it works great. It's called kinetic seats. The back wheels also turn slightly, what stabilizes the car in fast curves and makes it very fast and secure. If you drive slowly, the wheels at the back move in the opposite direction WICH makes the circle very small. The mbux system is such a great tool. The digital lights are amazing. You can project a walking strip on the roads or it warns you that a deer is even up to over 1 mile in front of you at the side of the road and projects a deer symbol on the street. (radar tech with digital light).. There is so much innovation. Really great car.

My insurance will pay what ever to fix my car and other person car if someone else was to be involved. Also they would pay for rental car for both parties. And that is. I just have to pay $ 500 and that's regardless if I had $10000 car or $ 100000 car

Just got one and I already regret the decision. Should have gone with the BMW 330i with the M package. The capacitive buttons and the overcomplicated MBUX are really frustrating. Cest la vie.
Unpopular fact- a fully loaded Camry xse hybrid is 24k less with the same options. Not to mention 50mpg
Should in theory have the Toyota reliability we all know. My cousin now has the family 07 Camry Hybrid which I think is near 360000KM without any mechanical failures at all.

Start/stop tech, stop sign recognition, HUD, 360 camera, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, Lane centering with RCC, stop sign, light and speed sign recognition, cruise control recognizes curves and slows to your preferred speed adjustment... shall I continue?

it is beautiful, but I can't be a fan of this for the sake of me... Gotta love Mercedes.. sure, the car starts at $45.5k, they give you an engine, steering wheel and 4 doors. But, if you would like a Car under your royal butt, then shell out almost 20 GRAND in optional, now you have a "nice" car. A 4 cyl hybrid 255hp at $63k. Yeah it's Mercedes baby.... Can't be a fan of this, I will keep my Alfa Romeo Giulia for life. I know I will not have fans here either :)
I will say, the base C Class actually comes amazingly equipped. Only big thing I see missing is the adaptive cruise. The $20,000 in optinos are some nice hings but they don't largely make a massive difference, and you'll never see one on the lot this expensive. My local dealer has 50 there or on the way - about 45 of them are between 45-52k, and all very well equipped. The craziest ones top out at 56k. To be fair, none have the digital lights or nappa leather, but only the biggest C Class fanatic is going to insist on getting the 63k car.
@@benjaminkohl342 as someone who just ordered a c300, the 20 k in options is far off. We topped ours out at 58k that’s with every option checked. Making it closer to 11k in options.
For reference my 2018 E300 has 20k in options 72k vs 53k base.

@@JamesCook76131 I've seen a few 63k C300s, with EVERY package selected. So, you can get 5-6k more then you have. But they have AMG Night package ($3400), big wheels ($600), selenite magno paint, ($3250), nappa leather ($2590), extra airbags ($700), extra insulation ($150), extra USB ports ($300), drivers assistant ($1700), pinnacle trim ($3950), etc. Plus you can add fancier wood for $200 and all sorts of port installed accessories. So yeah, I've genuinely seen cars with $18-19k in options, not inclduing mark up. Just their MSRP.
That being said, with just a little restraint, I think $55k is still a great sweet spot.
@@benjaminkohl342 no dealership is going to order magno paint (I work for Benz) unless it’s a order unit, and you can’t get to 63k without get 4Matic, which here in the south, doesn’t get ordered unless customer orders it. So 58-59k is truly topping out the price.
Also, 3d audio might be unavailable, won’t know until it actually hits production, still currently SNP (schedule not produced) so if 3d doesn’t come with it, the. They will issue at least a 1200-3000 dollar credit for missing equipment. Had to do similar things with S Class
My 2020 C Class was 52k, and that was pushing it for non order units.

@@JamesCook76131 Oh, absolutely you aren'y gonna see dealers spec cars like there, these would be custom orders. But you can get a C300 4matic to 63k (maybe 64) and a C300 RWD to 61k (maybe 62) with magno, nappa, and VPC accessories which show up on the sticker. Heck, I even saw a C300 4matic with no exclusive or pinnacle trim, no distronic, the stadalone nav for $60k (4matic). So, I s=tand by my statement, you can put $18k in options on a C300 which is a lot closer to 20k then 10k.
Also, if the car is missing the sound package and wireless charging, as recent production has, there is no credit issued, the option just isn't on the sticker. And it's not $1200 to $3000. It's $650 less on your sticker for the 3d audio, and $200 less for no wireless charging. The credits for missing standard are only for the kick to open trunk (D6M or D9B) or for a missing USB port, and theyre only $100 and $50 respectively. So with no sound packge or wireless charging, plus missing hands free access an 72B USB ports, plus no advanced USB package, take $1300 off the price. So, maybe RIGHT NOW you can only get a RWDb to 60k. Only $17k in options. Damn.

I am not crazy about the styling, especially the side of the vehicle...the doors are just boring. I love my 2020 C class with the AMG Night package as the doors have beautifully styling lines going through it. Also not a big fan of the screen used in the dash over the steering wheel. I assume the tires are not run flats...mine came with summer high performance run flats and I need to change the tires to winter ones in the North East.

This is a nice car, but it's hilarious how complex it is for seemingly no efficiency benefit. Those aren't great mpg numbers. I can't imagine what reliability will be like as they age.

I'll play for the blow-torch option, for sure -- that's a big value-add. In all seriousness though: I think all the capacitive "buttons" and iPad-style infotainment / HVAC controls makes this car a no-go for me. Auto manufacturers clearly don't care about distracted driving, nor what happens to you, when you do. This is nowhere near as safe as having physical buttons that you can press, without having to look, based on muscle memory. Anyway, I know this is the latest craze in automobiles -- and if it is, then fine -- I'll buy used from now on until auto manufactures come to their senses.

@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I do agree with that. How ever I have c200 2019 and I just bought eqc that I paid $158 000 and it does get some time to get used to for mercedes assistant. But I can say turn on seat heating or set temperature to 23 degrees and that works. For navigation or phone calls I use Android auto and that is done by Google and that works flawlessly. That's pretty much everything you need to use when driving: navigation, phone, sms, heating or cooling. Everything else is automatic in this car. Lights and wipers work alone what else do you need to be adjusting all the time when you are driving car
No mention about the ridiculous fake exhaust vents. A stupid trend started by VAG. Hate that everything is controlled by haptic control buttons on the steering wheel and touch center screen . Try to do the easiest and most used functions wearing gloves on a winter day
C300 used to be fast.
Now that even the Euros are using vinyl at their base prices, you simply cannot objectively argue there is a reason to buy this over a Camry XSE. For decades, at the very least you could say "well the luxury brand gives me leather and wood everywhere, I can't get that in a Toyota". Yes, at the mid to high end, the Euros are giving you a lot of what you can't get anywhere else----there's no real option to a S/7/A8 other than an LS and once they go V8, the LS can't follow. HOWEVER, at $55K? No, no way to justify this other than the badge. This is very high quality and you will be very comfortable and thrilled with all its tech, but if you spend a week with a Camry XSE you'll think "you know, I don't even need that badge, no one cares anyway and the $25K in my pocket feels really good".
Highly disagree. Have you driven a Toyota Camry recently? It's fine, but these are different things to drive. And look at. Absolutely, modern vehicles are closing the gap between lux and mainstream. But the camry, yes even an XSE, is a garish, poorly damped boring appliance, while the C Class has much better suspension tuning, noise insulation, a far superior infotainment suite, and way better steering.

I just got rid of my C43 Amg and yes expensive but the C Class doesn't depreciate like the S Class we did not loose a dime. We traded it directly to Tesla and they actually gave us a great trade in offer.
