You can clearly see the cubby in the back that will be replaced by the climate control panel if you just option it in, but here it's just called a drawback, without any mention that it's available if you just get the 4-zone climate pack. I really dislike how much the gauge cluster really just looks like a tacked on screen instead of a digitized gauge cluster. Audi’s cluster looked more modern than this 5 years ago.
I rather dislike any screens like that in cars. Like they designed it and then went 'oh crap, we forgot the screen....well...just set it on top, no one will notice'.
@@jblyon2 It makes a lot more sense to mount the screen like this... Its a screen. It should not be limited to the area and angles of the old instruments. If you use a screen, you do it so you can de-clutter de dashboard and push it back. A simple, minimalistic screen, properly placed so that it give the impression of greater space in the car. 14:42 I don't know where that 500 hp figure for C43 comes from. But the order guide my sales rep sent me earlier this year said it's only gonna be 402+13hp, so unless they put a 100 hp motor instead of that 13hp motor in the system, I don't see how it's gonna produce 500 hp.
You're right. Little over 400 hp from the M139 engine and tiny bit of boost of 14 hp or so from the 48V mild hybrid system. The 500 hp figure is of course ridiculous. How are they supposed to extract the same amount of power that the previous C63s' V8 used to make from a 4 cylinder without any assistance?
Moving to high-output turbo 4 cylinders for the new performance versions is a mistake. Horsepower isn't everything, and at the end of the day, a 4 cylinder is still a 4 cylinder.
14:30 In the C43, the four-cylinder engine is good for 402 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque, with a 48-volt, belt-driven starter-generator can add 13 extra horses for a quick boost.
First C-class was the 190. Just wasnt called that at the time. But the "first" C directly replaced the 190. If the 190 had continued to 1994 it would have been renamed that year to C. Just like the w124 was.
The 190 was the model W201. The first C-Class was the model W202 - so yes, the W202 directly replaced the W201. But calling the 190 (W201) the "first C-Class" is still wrong, since it was exclusively marketed as the 190. "C-Class" is a name - and it was first coined for the W202, so that's the first C-Class by definition. You wouldn't call the Beetle "the first Golf" either, just because one replaced the other?
@@xBris There's a bigger difference between the Beetle and the Golf than the W201 and W202. You can clearly see the evolution from the W201 to the W202. Park a Beetle next to a Golf Mk1 and they look like they're 40 years apart.
@@xBris No its correct calling it the first C-class since it was the first C-class in all practical real world meaning. The ONLY way it wasnt was in the naming scheme at the time. And nothing else. Haf nothing to do with the car itself. Had it been manufactured for one more year it would have changed name to C that year. Since all of MB:s models got that name change then. Regardless if new model or existing. What do you think is most relevant? What you call something or what it actually is in all practical real world sense? Tehy would have called it the C if it had remained 2 more years like the w124 did. No, the Golf didnt replace the Beetle. It was not the successor to the Beetle in any way design or purpose wise. Completely new design philosophy and segment. It got a successor much later. The beetle was also manufactured after the Golf came out. The C though was a direct successor and derivative from the 190 which ended prodution as the next gen replaced it. Its exactly the same with the w124. It just happened to live 2 years longer so it existed att the change of the naming scheme. The w210 was in the EXACT same way the succesor to the w124 as the w202 was to the w201. No difference at all.
I had my 2020 E 300 in for service this week and got a new 2023 C 300 (1250 miles on it) as a loaner. By the time I got out of the dealership parking lot I was ready to turn it back in. It is the most uncomfortable Mercedes Benz that I’ve ever been in. No matter what I did the seats were hard and extremely uncomfortable. Interior is cramped and small. I know, I drive an E class which is considerably larger but still.. I thought that interior looked nice at first but after driving it for a day the cheap feeling of the switches is very surprising. If you want to turn on the seat warmers the entire switch (including the memory seat portion) move, same with ALL the switches. The dashboard looked cheap and creaked and groaned as i was driving on a lightly rough road or went gingerly over a railroad crossing. The 4 cylinder turbo mild hybrid engine was rough and buzzy in a way that i don’t notice in the non hybrid 4 cylinder turbo in my car. I was also surprised that for $52,000 it had no navigation, no driver assistance package, no Burmester stereo, etc, etc. If it were priced about $20,000 less i could excuse it but not at the price point.
I just recently brought home the new C Class in Selenite Grey with the AMG night package and pretty much everything loaded in to it except the HUD and the AR navigation. These cars definitely do have navigation if you get that feature but the variety in the new C Class is there. For example, mine came with nav, but no wireless charger (part of the USB package which also includes rear USB ports). The enhanced ambient lighting is also a very nice feature. A few pretty neat features were missed but understandable as they just weren't in this specific reviewed model, but if you're interested in buying definitely look at all the available features. I mostly walked in to the dealer relatively blind just looking for a new car and I've been extremely pleased with my purchase so it was definitely nice to see this video pop up! It's a very nice and sleek looking car, rides very well and very comfy inside. Doug's right though, it's not overly excitable but for a comfortable commuter with some pretty cool features and a nice look, it's an awesome car and I love mine!
Really, touch screens can be good as a supplement, but not the main way of controlling things. Give us back the knobs for controlling the volume and climate system!
I feel like a new category is how each vehicles drivers assist/ cruise control/ lane keep compares. The tech needs to be broken down a bit more to compare how it navigates highway merges/ overall driver feel.
Random question: When Doug reviews an old car people get excited and kinda slanders his supercar videos when he rarely makes those. If Doug made a video on a 2nd gen Prius, do you think people are gonna be excited to see that over let’s say a Koenigsegg?
Also Doug: “I’ve ditched the bottom shirt for the summer months but I will continue to piss off PDI techs across Southern California with all the sweat I leave behind.”
That proximity speed limiter will likely save lives and will hopefully spread to other companies. So many accidents happen in parking lots with people (especially elderly) mixing up the pedals and crashing into people and things at high speeds
Doug really doesn’t know common car features on mainstream cars. My Mazda 3 has a 360 camera and that’s significantly less than a C class I still remember when Doug found it incredible when a car had heated cloth seats and said he only ever saw heated seats on leather seats… must be a Canadian versus American thing tho.
I've got a 2013 C300, and absolutely love it. 115k on the odometer and no problems so far. I like the styling of mine so much more than the new model, although the interior is a bit more luxurious in the 2022. Good cars.
Digital screens of distraction; we might as well be allowed to use cell phones again. My Samsung tablet/phone doesn't always respond to my touch. I wonder how responsive/sensitive these touchscreens are?
I do not like the intrument binnacle on this car, it looks like Merc have slapped an Ipad into a slot and hoped for the best. This reminds me of kit cars. I believe Nav should be standard on a car of this ilk, even if it is an option, not everyone wants to rely on their phone all the time, or to use their phone for anything other than calls.
These new Mercedes models look bland and boring. They have lost their character. The W204 was the pinnacle of C Class. Best looks, NA 6.2 V8 in the AMG and not too many redundant electronic gadgets that increase weight and decrease reliability
The new C63 AMG will have 670 hp and 553 lbft of torque combined. There is also a station wagon version in Europe and some other markets outside of North America.
@@mattmekhaeil This is very obvious Sherlock. Americans aren’t really big on wagons anyways. But Canada used to get the wagon C-Klasse. They’re not selling it there anymore. I feel bad for Americans that they don’t have many wagon options like Japan or Europe. So if you want a station wagon Mercedes in the states, the E-Klasse wagon is your only choice.

I, personally, wouldn't pay $50-60k for a 4-banger. The 2022 is all 4-bangers, all the time. This is a warmed-over 2021, with more tech, and more 4-bangers. Give me a 2021 C63S and I'm good.
Love this car - navigation, don’t care. Rear chargers, don’t care. Power trunk, yep. MB knows their customer. Gorgeous car and a huge step forward for the model.
I’m with you up to a point. I feel like an idiot watching my trunk open and close electrically. I don’t get the appeal of that needless weight and complexity, especially on a small sedan. Am I missing something?
@@gregmcable It’s a luxury car. I want luxuries. No OEM navigation is better than Apple CarPlay. Rear seat power is negligible, at least for me (no kids). Power trunk makes the difference between a C class and a Camry.
@@gregmcable I guess it's just a bad look for a brand like Mercedes (and at the Mercedes price) to have a non-power assist trunk. I think it's annoying too but for the times your hands are full or you need to let someone else use the trunk it is handy.
My wife has the previous generation (and had the one before that recently). This really looks more like a generation refresh than a new generation. It's bigger, but just minor style updates, engine tune and screens. Hers has navigation, and I like having it. It works even when my phone occasionally doesn't. That said, it looks better than Mazda's navigation, but is functionally worse. I'd still get the option buying new, but I understand skipping it. I also didn't care for the power trunk, but my wife loves it. The moment she realized it had a foot sensor she was sold. She loves not having to free a hand or touch the rear of the car (salty in winter) to open and close the trunk. The real selling point for us though is how short-person friendly the car is. She's 4'-10" (147cm for the sensible people) and it's one of the few cars where she can get a comfortable driving position without losing circulation in her legs. Unsurprisingly, she's also the buyer that considers memory seats as a requirement for purchase. Yeah, some of their options should be standard, and some dealers order some frankly stupid specs, but they're nice when you get one with the right options (and ignore the repair bills).

Now I'm excited to see what the turbo 4 c63 is going to be like. I wonder if they're going to use some crazy F1 tech to pull that off. Like maybe the pre-ignition chamber and the separated turbo housing? Not that those two things alone will get a 4cly to 600 hp without a lot of lag but I'm curious!
Both the C43 and the C63 have the 4 cylinder from the A45S, which gives just over 400 hp for the C43 and 470 hp for the C63. The C43 has a turbo with an electric motor integrated to reduce turbo lag (apparently for F1 tech), and a 48V starter/generator motor that provides a small power boost to provide extra torque at low rpms. The C63 with have all that plus a full hybrid system with a rear motor to add 200 hp and a fancy AWD system.
Too bad MB raised their rates in Canada from 3.79 to now 7.64% while BMW is still 3.99 and Audi is 4.48. Hard pass. Was in the market for a CLA45 and wasn't worth getting screwed on the rates.
I actually still like having navigation built-in. I don't use it over apple maps on carplay, but it's there if I drive somewhere where I am not getting any cell phone reception. There have been situations like this in the past that led me to drive for hours with no idea where I was going until I finally got some reception.
I was planning on getting a 2019 E53 or CLS due to them having the Mild Hybrid motors, but Mercedes putting this on a 4 cylinder turbo changes everything! This is for sure going to be my next car! Gonna be zippin' around in this due to the extra torque!
I don’t know what people in the USA think about the new c63 but in Europe, everybody hates that they switched to a 4cyl engine cause it sounds like a vacuum cleaner
Doug talks materials, but never talks interior quality. Many car reviews say MB have creaky and shaky interiors. They say Teslas have the worst build quality.
Mercedes did have shaky interior for a little bit. I just upgraded into this new c class from my 2017 c class, and in the 2017 anywhere you put pressure on the dash or center console or anywhere really, it would squeak and creak like crazy. The new one tho I have to admit it’s much better. Probably because there’s screens covering most of where my old cars center console was haha
I test drove the new one recently here in Germany and I was pretty disappointed. Being a new car there wasn't any creaking or rattling but boy was there a lot of hard and scratchy plastic lower down. Even the trim, which looks nice, sounded hollow and brittle, exactly what you would expect to start rattling/creaking after some time. And even the metallic-looking air events felt super plastic-y. Funny you should mention the Tesla because I also drove a '22 Model 3 LR and I felt the materials were more solid and dense. The quality also stretched lower down.
This is a very nice looking car I think it looks just as good as the S class but in terms of quality and practicality and all that, it’s a downgrade. Still, I would take the S class if I had the money
For some reason, the new C-Class looks very angry on the rear and I'm not a huge fan of the centre screen area... I'd probably take a 3 Series over this...
You men are disrespectful and can't seem to accept that everyone has their own opinions. Did you parents taught you to be disrespectful? TH-cam should get rid of the comment section in their new update, so people can't comment anymore.

I'd love to see Doug do a section or separate channel on reviewing car accessories. Dashcams, car stereos, alarms, obd2 devices, etc. Feel like they would be entertaining and informative. He gives good opinions!
It's a huge bummer for the C63 to no longer carry the V8. Will the new one be faster? Probably... but it will probably lack character. Too soon to tell though, maybe it will be absolutely amazing in the driving department and somehow manage to beat Porsche in driving dynamics.
@@nestornieves9822 does it really matter how many cylinders this car has? I am fine with one cylinder so long as it is adequate. Sound you can pipe in. Engines would have different power delivery within the RPM range, sure, but for automatics power delivery is irrelevant.

Hate how car manufacturers don't have physical climate controls ... I'm constantly adjusting the temperature whilst driving and to be able to do it by feel only so I can still keep my eyes on the road is soo important to me rather than having to look at screen first and then making sure your touching the correct part of the screen to change it, doing this whilst driving ... a little dangerous.

With things like a missing Navigation map (which I kinda agree with since AA and ACP will help if it's a good system) and a gauge cluster screen that isn't very adjustable (something Doug has definitely criticized many automakers especially in recent videos) it feels like he is being very forgiving of the things this car doesn't offer as expensive as it is while he wouldn't be for other cars. Hard disagree on the part of Audis being superior in interior design to Mercedes, but I will give it to you that BMW has some fantastic interiors. My main issue with the Audis for the past decade or so is that they just feel incredibly soulless and cheap; you can tell very clearly, especially on the lower-end models like the A3 and A4, that they are heavily influenced by Volkswagen's design, and not in a good way. They feel sterile and bland, lacking any real identity or character. @@jblyon2 It makes a lot more sense to mount the screen like this... Its a screen. It should not be limited to the area and angles of the old instruments.
Car and Driver already did a full test and review of the new C43 and it is indeed just 402 HP. The 48V hybrid system does almost nothing to add power.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting your review of the new C-Class for a while, keep up the good work Doug!
Why r u anxious bro
@@drippgxd drugs lol
Eager-not anxious.
@@xBris bro the 190 is a C class. end of argument.

I feel that a lot of new car interiors are squeaky and creepy; but the noises I don’t think are indicative of strength or durability of the material

Who needs navigation with CarPlay? Not me. Doug didn’t even mention the Hey Mercedes voice control and a bunch of other cool features that I have on my 2023 which is a beautiful blue 4matic. It’s an absolutely fabulous car and it has more than enough power (he didn’t even take it on the freeway!). I got an ex-loaner with 4900 miles on it for nearly 10k below sticker price. Best car purchase I’ve ever made.
Doug DeMuro. King U-Turns.... I thank you for another great review!
This car looks great in person. The camera doesnt come close to doing it justice. As I continue to mature I realize that Mercedes has always known classically tasteful lines and this year is no different. See a clean one in person to give it a fair chance!
The grille is heinous and almost as awful as the new G80 series BMW.
@@rickracer78 We're not discussing your mum here.
@@rickracer78 Unfortunate for your case, I think the G80 grille was a wonderful decision by BMW. In just a couple years people will be loving the grille
I love watching you test drive most of all lol😅
I have been anxiously waiting for this review even though mat Watson did it. But at that time the price was not out. My dad is planning on buying one.
Buy Tesla Y model.
The technology is great and overall it's a nice looking C class, but I still think that the best looking C class is the facelift version of W204. It's just perfect from every angle.
If you have your phone map with Apple car play you can display map on the dash as well
I just hate new Mercedes. I worked for Mercedes as a mechanic for 6 months and they feel so cheap inside and out. Audi & BMW interiors are and were always better
They put screens and ambient light and ppl go crazy saying best interior ever
@@One_don2612 yup! putting screens and lights it’s the cheapest thing possible to do, yet attractive for some people.
@@One_don2612 and another thing, you know the ‘aluminum’ interior trims like buttons, vents, etc? They’re all plastic with a coat of unusual paint that makes them look and feel like aluminum 😂😂 And this isn’t only in new Mercedes models, I saw that also in 2000-2010 cars with fake aluminum trims.
This, in turn with most of the interior being underwhelming with plastic on a large amount of surfaces means that frankly Audi just pushes out some of the most mediocre interiors for their status.
@@can_opener755 trust me man, they are still better than Mercedes interiors, I do think BMW it’s (probably) the best in interior quality, mercedes the last, Audi depends on the spec and trim level, but yeah, Audi and BMW are way nicer with no doubt about it
The orange peel on the paint is the worst I've ever seen on a car from factory. Just look at the trunk lid at 17:22
I thought the same thing.
I feel like every other generation of C class is a miss. We're on the good gen again. The W204 was the last one that impressed me. This one looks promising
Monitor & TV manufacturers: Here’s our new product with 1mm bezels.
Mercedes: We heard you like massive bezels..
Is MB abandoning the “hyper screen” or is that just a more expensive option?
Great review as always, but I am still not a fan of MB interiors. Audi and BMW does a much nicer job of integrating the screens vs. slapping on them on.
The 00s Mercedes screens are well integrated
Audi and BMW dont even look like luxury cars anymore, they look almost Honda like
@@tati-anaroseee4316 nothing's special anymore my old e46 had more hp and was more of the ultimate driving machine than my buddy's 14' 3 series. The last great era of German luxury cars was when the e92 m3 and w204 c63 got axed
@@charliegoodwin8949 I have an 03 c32 AMG and I don't ever plan on getting a newer car, I think the 2000s was the sweet spot for all the euro cars especially, even if they don't have a great reputation lol
@@tati-anaroseee4316 I almost bought a c32 about 2 years back but it was bought 30 minutes before I got the cash, I've owned most the 90/00s luxury cars and they were all on top of there game. Most reliable ones I've had so far were a w211 e320 and 2005 Jag s type r
Nice car but very plain looking, maybe some better wheels would help
600 hp out of a turbo 4 cylinder? That better be the beefiest 4 banger ever made or there will be problems out the ass
It's a German car. We all know how poorly it will turn out lmao
@@baronvonjo1929 haha right
Koenigsegg pulled 600HP out of a 3 cylinder engine

But that is a whole different class, this Mercedes is an everyday car lol
10:00 Why is there a giant gap between the trim pieces under the screen?
I finally bought my first merc. I grow up in the hood but was lucky and got out. Living the high life now, have a crib, white girlfriend and a merc. Sweet.
