People might find Cookie’s lyrics very sus, but it’s not what you think. In Korea, when an artist makes a good song, they say they are “baking cds” or I think “baking cookies”. That’s why most Koreans find the song fun and cute. They don’t use cookie as a slang like Americans do. While there could be a double meaning, I’m pretty sure that cookies mean cds. In the music video, there were cookies quite literally turning into cds. And I’m don’t agree with kpop idols debuting young, but New Jeans is the age range of most other groups. Why wasn’t age a big problem with the group IVE. It’s like people forgot Leeseo was 14 too. And at least almost half the members of New Jeans has already had experience in the industry before debuting.
cookie is always referred to as singular, not plural. that's a big difference also, I don't have a clue about IVE, I don't stan them, I don't even know one name, so I did not know there was a minor. another example can be loona, that has yeojin. she was 14 when she debuted, and I clearly expressed how I feel about idols this young. same goes with other groups and the fact that every group had at least one minor at one point DOES NOT MAKE IT BETTER. like at all. also the last sentence creeps me out even more wth
@simplythatsillygirl oh yeah. There were a good amount of people uncomfortable, and I was one of them. But after awhile, it kind of got overlooked, and people literally forgot about it after Eleven promotions ended. There weren’t as many videos on TikTok complaining and saying they weren’t gonna stan IVE cuz of their ages as much as there are New Jeans. Probably because Wonyoung and Yujin were in the group. Both groups are relatively about the same age. And at least New Jean’s concept matches their ages, which is something really rare to find in kpop. 3 of the members in NJ, including the youngest, already had experience in the industry before they debuted. The 14 year old was literally a child model at 8 years old for crying out loud. New Jeans is a group of 16-18 year olds, with an experienced 14 year old. It literally could’ve been worse.
@@gigiiii oh. I didn’t mean for the last sentence to come out creepy. I meant that most people are concerned about minors debuting cuz of the toxic industry. So I was saying, a few of the New Jeans members have already been exposed to that world. Like Hyein, the youngest, was a child model at 8 years old, and she was also on a TH-cam channel called pocket tv. Danielle has also been on the internet, and I think she was also a child model. I also think Haerin was a model too. What I’m basically saying is that it’s better that they have some sort of experience rather than going into this stuff blindly. I didn’t mean it any way else.
"Half of the members of New Jeans has already had experience in the industry before debuting" i don't think that's making it better, because considering their age, it means some won't have a childhood at all, and the decreasing ages of idols debuting is still a problem, and it's not because a group already has done it that's it's not still a problem (also if you don't see why it's a problem, you should reconsider yourself)
I am a Korean woman in my 40s and most Koreans don't know if cookies are sexual slang. Even my middle school diary nickname is Cookie. I just used it because I liked the cute vibe, then should I be embarrassed? It was confused at first, but I found it unnecessary. Since we live in various cultures, we just need to train not to judge other cultures from the perspective of the culture to which I belong. Please believe in their music and their original intentions. The people who are crying at this moment must be the girls and their parents.
The other lyrics of the song imply it's sexually intended. This has nothing to do with culture, how can you not interpret this lyric as sexually intended? the word cookie itself is not sexual, in certain contexts it can be. And in the context of the song it is sexually intended...
Fair take. NewJeans are doing so well...I guess when you have great music, everything else such as controversies surrounding their age and lyrics become secondary.
Cookie = cd ... In Korea, storing music on a cd They say it's baked. Bake cookies = Bake cd. it seems to be a kind of fan song that promises to provide good music without sparing materials
Yeah, Cookie it's an amazing song and has an OUTSTANDING choreo, one of my favorite but yeah, it caused a lot of controversy because for English speakers it sounds very inappropriate but in Korean "baking a cookie" means "doing a CD" so they're just saying they are making us hungry and craving for more of their music. But I completely get why so much people hated the lyrics, as for me it sounded good and didn't have bad thoughts about the lyrics so I enjoy the song without bad feelings, but, again, I understand the hate. Besides that, I had your SAME reaction when I firstly listened to Hype Boy, it's became a song I have to listen at least once a day, it's ridiculously good and so well produced, every sound adds layers it's powerful and the choreo it's amazing!
I had the same reaction with Hype Boy the first time I listened to it, I wanted to cry because I'd already forgotten about kpop but then this song was there and it literally made me cry of happiness. Same with Ditto and Attention. I love all their songs, they're my princesses now 🥹
New jeans music and concept slaps.. the ages, lyrics, etc are controversial, but that doesn’t stop me from loving the songs. Hopefully they iron this out in the future, I’d love to see these girls have great success drama-free. If this is the level of excellent that we can expect, I’m super excited for what the future holds. Like I said in a previous comment to you- I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed a groups music as much as NJ since I discovered Loona.
Still to this day I feel like that "Hurt" is one of their most underrated songs, when is actually one of my personal favourite, the adlibs, their voices, the vibe, like everything about this song is so dreamy, I LOVE IT. No wonder why IU decided to cover it.
I actually watched this whole hour long video because it reminded me of when I first discovered Newjeans and it was such a wild ride. Plus your reviews are actually really good because it was honest and you weren't blindly defending / criticizing. Great job, your channel deserves so much more. For me, Attention was my favourite - that song is still living in my head rent free to this day.
Very solid group, cant wait to see more from them. I just hope they are well protected from this cruel industry, especially because they are (mostly) under 18... And how I would have loved if they just debuted with Attention instead of Cookie
Love them even more now that I learned two members have lyrics credits on Attention and Hype Boy, plus their producer said in an interview that the most important thing is for the members to be happy. Supremely talented and I am rooting for them!
you know, if the industry insists on churning out these young idols, they really should rethink the way they write their 'one-size-fits-all' lyrics, cause it clearly doesn't work anymore.
I haven't watched kpop since 2ne1 left the scene until I heard Hype Boy. That song easily brought me back to kpop. Glad I found New Jeans, Kpop became relevant to me once again.
koreans may not think that, but the english lyrics have a double meaning. I'm not saying one is wrong and the other interpretation is right, I'm just saying that they should care about the girls first and since it's a group clearly aimed to western consumption, they should've cared a bit more.
for me personally is hard to be a fan/listen to groups with most if not all members being a minor. And its much more harder when the company gives them concepts and songs that sexualised these kids. personally i would rather steer clear from these types of groups since i dont want to enable these companies to keep doing these type of shit. but thats just me, everyone is free to do whatever. (just had some bad experience as a kid so i cant ignore what their company is doing) :))
I was really against this idea when I found out their ages, but their music it's really good so I'm listening to them... really wish cookie had different lyrics, I was really mad they gave it a sexual undertone bc from what I've seen in twt they had a sort of fan sign (?) and just seeing grown men (yes, they were in the picture) stanning minors is rrly weird. Also, as much aw we wish they are protected from the industry, we can't really control the target audience so let's just hope the future songs concepts fit their age
Fan culture is different in Korea, it's not out of the ordinary for men to be fans of idols. I understand that it may seem weird from a Western lens or in a Western setting but we can't judge the entire world only through our own standards. ETA: I made this comment because I see so many on twitter and social media making a big deal out of this, often going as far as accusing these fans of being horrible criminals merely because they went and supported the girls. Those sentiments and accusations I find absolutely unacceptable, ignorant and disgusting. People should not be gatekept from a fandom merely due to age and demographic and we shouldn't accuse people of malicious intent unless we actually have substantial evidence.
I'm not American, so I wouldn't know about fan culture in either countries from first hand, I've only interacted with them and, sorry but in my opinion unless you know the person directly there's no way of telling their intentions. In all this I hope I'm wrong and no one was like this, but that's a really naive perspective, especially when someone's young.
Fact: Newjeans is a K-pop group that has gained huge popularity since its debut in Korea. The trend of debuting as an idol at a young age has recently increased significantly, and in Korea, the members are very young. Given that the y2K concept and lyrics contain a lot of English, it cannot be denied that they aimed at overseas markets to some extent. This seems to have been influenced by bts' success worldwide, and they belong to the same hybe entertainment. As a Korean fan who is into newjeans, I am even looking for reaction videos of overseas fans, and most of them have doubts about the lyrics. I was wondering why they had doubts In the West, it can be seen that cookies contain sexual things. However, there has not been a single article in Korea, and people do not even know the reason for the controversy. (Controversy that I would never have known if I hadn't looked up the reaction video) There is no double meaning of cookies in Korea It's not a problem. In addition, it is true that the overseas market has been considered to some extent, but its roots are K-pop in the first place and the main market is Korea. If you watch the cookie mv, you can also see the scene where the CD continues to appear behind and the cookie changes to the CD. However, if I was born and raised in the West, not in Korea, I think it would be a misunderstanding and I understand them. The reason why I write a long article using a translator is that the director did not intend to do so, and I am concerned about the negative aspects of newjeans, their companies, and directors in this controversy. I know that sexual content about teenage girls has recently been highly controversial in the United States and the West. In Korea, the entire nation is also more alert to sex crimes against teenagers, and in Korea, all racy videos are legally prohibited. Not only teenagers but also adult videos. Korea has been using Confucianism as a doctrine, and it has only recently changed the open culture of the West as cool Sexual jokes are still completely taboo for teenagers in Korea, and I want to tell foreigners who say they need to protect newjeans in this industry. They are safe and signed with the company when they were young, and their parents agreed to it, and the first generation of K-pop groups debuted in that way. That there was no problem. It's not that I'm Korean and I don't understand you guys, but I'm Filipino in another comment, but like he says he doesn't understand the controversial part Fact is the difference in culture, not the part where their director will be criticized. There is no reason to be obsessed with age. In Korea, if the lyrics suggest sexual parts (that Koreans know), it is controversial enough even for adult singers. The bottom line is the difference in culture, and even if you think the double meaning is clear It is absolutely impossible to make such a prank with teenage girls in Korea. (Already protesting and going crazy) In Korea, baking cookies means making a CD, In the video, there is also a scene where cookies are changed to CD.c.d. The Korea Communications Commission censors sexual matters in the first place. (as if Jenny's nurse outfit was deleted from the blackpink mv) I am a fan of newjeans, and I am afraid that foreign fans will leave because of this inconvenience.. Please understand that the context of the article is not correct using a translator. Thank you for the video :)
Kpop idols have been debuting since 14 from the beginning of kpop. Their are young singers, dancers ,models actors and actress all around the world since the beginning of the entertainment industry. They are the once that audition no one made them It is their choice. Please their parents support and respect their decision.
If one in five people defecated in front of everyone in plain sight, would you do the same? No (although who knows by your logic). So here adults use children for their own benefit. Even Snsd's Taeyeon said she regrets debuting so early as she was 17. Her entire childhood and teenage years were filled with training, she didn't make friends at school, the only attention she got was creepy guys who like schoolgirls with an innocent concept who dance and sing to children's songs in short skirts.
Thank you for your reaction! Many people praise NewJeans' unique music style and Min Hee-jin's creative direction, but they often forget to mention the producers behind their music. All of NewJeans' music is created by Korean producers 250 and FRNK. Before NewJeans debuted, most Koreans didn't know about them. However, they were already recognized for their unique musicality and artistry in the Korean underground hip-hop scene. First, FRNK is a producer for the group XXX, which consists of rapper Kim Ximya and FRNK. Their experimental and abstract hip-hop may be challenging for the general public, but it showcases high musicality. While not commercially successful, their music has been highly praised for its artistry. 250 also has a unique career. He started as an underground hip-hop producer with music that is deep and somewhat difficult to understand. He collaborated with another producer, Jinbo, who has worked with BTS, Red Velvet, and SHINee. Unexpectedly, 250 spent over five years studying "bbong" (a genre of traditional Korean pop music often enjoyed by older people). In 2022, he released his first full album, "BBong," which won the Grand Prize at the Korean Music Awards and garnered international attention for its experiment. When NewJeans first debuted with "Attention," everyone was amazed by its freshness, novelty, and simple yet solid musicality. Fans of music and underground hip-hop were especially shocked because 250 and FRNK, known for their experimental and abstract hip-hop, produced a mainstream K-pop girl group's song. The second shock was how different this music was from their previous styles. Lastly, it was surprising how quickly NewJeans' music gained massive popularity. Is there a bad song among NewJeans' tracks? Despite being easy listening, their music is fundamentally well-crafted. The songs are not simple to create, blending various genres like hip-hop, R&B (with many sub-genres), Jersey club, and UK Garage, while maintaining NewJeans' unique feel. It’s truly impressive. In 2023, 250 won six awards at the Korean Music Awards, including Album of the Year, Musician of the Year, Best Electronic Album, and Best Electronic Song for "BBong." He also won Best K-Pop Album and Best K-Pop Song for his work with NewJeans. The Korean Music Awards are highly prestigious, awarded solely based on musicality, making it rare for idols to win. This is why I have high expectations for NewJeans' future. I firmly believe they will follow in the footsteps of legends like Seo Taiji and Boys, Big Bang, BTS, and BLACKPINK as the next G.O.A.T in K-Pop history. I just hope the political disputes between HYBE and ADOR’s CEOs won’t hinder the incredible future that 250, FRNK, and the talented NewJeans girls are destined to create.
newjeans best rookie for me alongside with ive obviously, refreshing AND good music?? like damn give me that... also please react to after like by ive! its so slayful, love ur reaction as always
on the cookie song, it is impossible to translate Korean slang to English. in Korean slang the song sounds really cute however bad translation to English does sound weird. baking cookie mean burning CD for their fans in Korean so...
As far as i know attention is actually their debut track since theyre promoting it... As for cookie Yeah ur not the only one that finds the lyrics reallyyy weird. In the beginning people thought something was lost in translation (although the worst lyrics are sang in english) but even kfans understand why people might be weirded out by it So thats on nj's creative director song producers and writers. If the members werent this young id probably stan them bc of how good music they make so this is unfortunate
Why do people always have to think of eating food or foods in general as something dirty? Just because what? Due to how often other cultures, especially western culture, puts innuendos on food? Maybe if we're more considerate and sensitive of cultural differences then there wouldn't be any problem at all. Korean listeners, who speak the same language and fully understand it, ACTUALLY think of the song as something cute and innocent. The members themselves explained as well that it's about their album or CD, and that the lyrics are cute so they hope that the audience likes it. You say 'even kfans understand how people (foreigners?) might be weirded out by it.' idk which people you talking about coz native Koreans think of it otherwise. Then how about y'all foreigners? Why won't y'all try to understand that it's NOT sexual at all. Stop being so dirty minded. Stop labelling and stating the song that it's something sexual as if it's an ABSOLUTE matter of fact. Maybe touch some grass and clean your minds. It makes me so mad how people get so ignorant and tend to disregard the fact that the girls wanted to be idols. They applied, did auditions for the company and trained for a period of time. Their parents also consented as well. They chose this career. Y'all foreigners keep on barking that's it's about sexualization of minors when y'all the only ones to think of it. If you think their music is good and think they're talented then why not just support them? Y'all either only think of yourselves or just plain indenial that these young girls are more talented than y'all .
@@mashedpotato001 and also do you think the member would’ve come out and say “yes bros it’s about seggs lol i know i’m underage but the company says it’s okay because it sells!” wtf of course they’re saying it’s not about that and it’s about baking cds/ cookies WHICH BTW is in english and never plural so… not cookies, but my cookie. big difference. now try to chill because no one was being rude or anything and you totally ruined the vibe. we are all aware they chose to be an idol, nobody was even talking about that. the only thing we said is that it’s kinda sad that they’ll never gonna live their childhood which is very true. also, they decide when to audition for a company, they don’t decide when to debut so your point is not even valid. have a good day
Enjoyed your reaction! So this is actually my first time watching the MVs and reading the lyrics as well. Reading Cookie along with you was a trip lol. But their music definitely slaps!! Them being underage does make me a bit uncomfortable, which is why I never watched the MVs. Hopefully their company takes care of their image.
Gigii thank you for making me not feel bad for being *conflicted* about Cookie. THE SONG IS SO GOOD I COULD CRY but the lyrics are so inappropriate, I am mad that Hybe took this from me. Bc EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT (for me) is 10s across the board. If they'd just waited until they were all of age... 😢
everything else about it don’t even see the board because it’s so good!! literally if it wasn’t for the lyrics it would’ve been my fav release of 2022😭
Love it when new groups doing something new, never been this excited since the Loona project. New Jeans music just scream 2000s, also are they trying to get Jeans trendy again? I’m kinda against that, stretchables are the best.
@@ones.mp3 lol the very VERY low rise 2000s jeans, the ones that were barely covering the ehm IMPORTANT PARTS. i wish i had the will to go and link you examples but i don’t have it. too much cringe 😬
My favourite storyline in hype boy has to be the first one you did with Danielle and haerin because they both had a boy going after them but he was with them both so they ended up getting his basketball shirt that’s why the animation was a basketball shirt and basket ball heart split in half because he was using them both. Cheating. Anyway, but then the girls just stay friends and go off together and I love that they’re so cute. They’re the youngest too so it makes sense they didn’t actually do anything different. Was just cute. Then I think the most popular one that everyone seems to watch is Minjis one. I think she’s the visual or something she’s definitely seeming the most popular tho.
Me when you keep on replaying hype boy: YES GO ON DO IT AGAIN 😂🤣 This song is living in my head rent free 😂 I've been humming to it since it was first released. Good is an understatement tbh.
BEFORE ANYONE USES IT TO INSULT ME/OTHER PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS, HERE’S ADOR STATEMENT ON THE ISSUE: www.soompi.com/article/1542507wpp/ador-gives-detailed-explanation-following-controversy-over-newjeans-song-cookie I READ IT ALL AND EVERYBODY SHOULD DO THE SAME!!! alright i didnt wanna make a pinned comment but here it is because if I have to delete another comment that insults me or anyone in the comment for giving their own opinion I will scream. - first of all, if you're gonna pretend you're korean to prove a point that's gonna be ruined by the fact that you don't actually know Korean grammar, HENCE YOU ARE NOT KOREAN, please leave. - second point, if you are not Korean STOP SPEAKING FOR THEM. "they are not offended so you shouldn't be" wtf how does that make sense first of all, also, people have different opinions on everything and I doubt that there's not ONE korean that is actually freaked out by the song - third, if you have to insult me, at least be original: on this note, if you use "gay" as an insult, you definitely have issues - "you Americans all think you're the center of the world, it's not about you all the time" jokes on you, I'm not American dummy the list will be updated as we go on living. i just wanna say, THE PROBLEM IS NOT NEW JEANS FFS. the problems are the lyricists that deliberately gave them the song without one care in the world about how it would be perceived, SINCE IT'S CLEARLY AIMED FOR WESTERN CONSUMPTION. and don't tell me they didn't know, because one of the lyricists is for sure NOT KOREAN.
Honestly, as long as people have good intentions and are really concerned about the girls, I don't have a problem with them voicing their concerns about Cookie. It's just that antis are using the controversy to push people away from the group and some even call for their disbandment which I don't think will help the girls at all.
Tbh, I actually like Cookie It's just I wish the person who wrote the lyrics wouldn't do that again And think about the meaning in both language It's got double meaning I'm still stanning them big time I hope all the best for them and become successful And I hope they don't get anymore hate It's not their fault
My mom is from Korea and I am an Asian too. It's definitely not about culture differences as someone said . The concept of this song is not innocent as many people thought, it has a lot of sexual innuendoes in this song. It is kind of UNCOMFORTABLE for me to listen to this song considering their ages (the youngest girl is only 14). I'm a fan of newjeans and love the other songs excluding this one. I BELIEVE these girls are innocent and wholesome. The intention of making this song is basically due to their company's willingness.
Don’t get tight on the cookies, at first I took it wrong and the girls were too young for this..but I’m learning so much, it’s a culture thing. They are very centered on delicious food and cookies are sweet like them, also something with baking. They do look flirty and to us together it looks ba
In Korea, "cookie" has no sexual connotation at all. It's never used in that context. So when NewJeans' album came out, no one thought it was an issue. But then, the controversy started among Western fans. Of course, since K-Pop is so popular globally now, you could say that we need to be more aware of these things. But if we think like that, we’d have to be careful about all the slang in every language around the world. And you know, that's just impossible. I hope people can understand more about the Korean cultural context.
about the cookie lyrics, apparently they explained that the cookie is a metaphor for them baking their first cd for their fans or something like that(?) still it really is weird having 15 year olds sing those lyrics and it gets weirder knowing min heejins (their creative director) controversy for glamorizing pedophilia... which is so unfortunate because the girls are soo talented and the music slaps so hard! we must protect them
bro i went through the same reactions as you during cookie. i felt whiplash from "omg this song slaps" but also "this is horrifying!" i really want to love newjeans. their songs and mvs so far are SO refreshing in kpop right now and might be some of the best releases we've had period, but wow it is such a killer when you realize how young they all are. i realllly don't think it's okay for minors to debut period due to the amount of schedules and training they have to endure and the exhaustion that results from that, the extreme public exposure both online and in real life, the stress, scrutiny, and extreme criticism that comes from being an idol, and of course, sexualization. we see the negative effects of being an idol all the time (eating disorders, anxiety, mental health issues, suicide, etc;) and it's even worse when it's a literal minor being exposed to this all and thrust into the spotlight for the potential of some extremely negative and gross attention. i really wish korea would not allow people younger than 18 to debut, as being an idol can already be SO unhealthy, nonetheless for a child/teenager who does not have the life experience and maturity of someone older. and i feel this way for any group, not just newjeans, that debuts minors, and even more so for them debuting in groups with outfits, songs, dance moves, and videography/photography that is not appropriate, such as IVE. i also really don't buy the "cookies means cds" or anything that tries to explain it as not being a euphemism. "i want to make you lose your appetite. i'm hiding it, but i want to see you more," "looking at my cookie (taste it) you can't stop one bite with me," "you'll lose your mind till you don't want other tastes," "take it, don't break it, i want to see you taste it," "come and take a lookie, baked at my place only, come get some." it's like trying to tell me that flo rida really is just talking about an instrument in "whistle." it doesn't take a degree in literary analysis to understand what it's really trying to say. i think people /want/ to truly believe that it is not a euphemism and is harmless and innocent, as i would like to believe too, so that we don't have to confront the uncomfortable fact that these minors are singing and dancing to a song with sexual meaning and instead get to enjoy the song without guilt. i 100% believe the writers/producers knew it had sexual undertones, but they just don't care, as really the whole industry never cares when it comes to debuting minors and the sexualization of minors and their idols in general.
i dont know why peolpe decide on their own without fact checking this song made me realize that the word has that meaning in my whole life most asian people probably do
also i do not like the amount of dismissal people have abt cookie's lyrics, like i get people saying theres a different context in terms of languages but stans are quick to dismiss other nuanced conversations by just saying it means a "cd"??? a ton of the lyrics are american phrases but translated into korean and multiple knets have also displayed their concern for the lyrics so its weird to jump to the defense of the company without having any proper discussions about how strange it is
I like cookie. is a very very very very good song and I love newjeans. favorite gg group of mine i love the members too but i can't lie and say cookie wasn't sexual cause it is i wish people would stop saying is not cause it is and it is what it is lol
They're not 12 they are 14,16,17,18, and 18 and that's in national age in korea their ages are 15,17,18,19, and 19. Also, they released an explanation video before the song even came out as well as a formal letter from the company itself explaining after numerous allegations. Although in america, cookie may mean coochie, it's a slang. In korea, burning cd's is also a slang. Cookie = CD. Eating cookie = consuming their music. "You can't stop at one bite with me" = you won't get tired of our music. And it's true because all of their songs are banger. I hope you can maybe read and research a little bit more when you react to music videos. Appreciate it
Also many idols debuted at young ages. Some idols who debuted at the same age as hyein(the maknae) are jungkook, wonyoung, niki, yeri, suzy, and there are more. And although 2000 babies may sound young, everyone is coming of age people born in 2004 age have graduated or will graduate so if we think from an outside pov they are not that young and have agreed with their parents to pursue a public career.
i will not research anything before going into a reaction, since i don’t want to be biased in any way. however, one thing that cookie taught me is to look up the lyrics of songs first, that’s for sure. i really did appreciate it tho, only differently. to appreciate something doesn’t mean to like it. also, 14, 15, 16 is too young for me. and the fact that they’re not the first ones to debut this young doesn’t make it any better. i listen to enhypen, i listen to skz, i listen to loona, GG, shinee, it still doesn’t make it ok for me that companies debut trainees that young, even with their parent permission (for reference, i’d point you towards janette mccurdy, macaulay culkin and ariel winter, these stories really helped me shape my mind on this matter)
@@emsterdog6555 If one in five people defecated in front of everyone in plain sight, would you do the same? No (although who knows by your logic). So here adults use children for their own benefit. it’s just that it’s all so very short for underage people. but that’s not a hybe/ador issue tho, it’s a very much worldwide spread thing that i’m not a fan of but it’s just my stand on this, everyone is free to do as they please yk
As someone outside of the US I had no clue that yall saw cookies in such a dirty way lol also I laugh at how your first reaction was to try ignore their age and turn off the lyrics instead of ignore the nasty innuendo one culture has decided to put on this common desert that used to be known for being baked by grandmas for their grandkids...
Assumption is always a killer...both sides have been victims...thanks for the people who clarified what "cookie" actually meant. My Korean students did explain this to me, too. Maybe research first before making a reaction or comment. Just enjoy the music!
what is the point of making a reaction if i already know everything about the song then? doesn’t make any sense. since you’re a teacher you should know that sparking discussion is always a good thing. i did not appreciate this comment at all
@@gigiiii You misunderstand my intention. Of course we all want an honest reaction. Im not against you or anything. Its just a suggestion. And at least almost half the members of New Jeans has already had experience in the industry before debuting.
cookie is always referred to as singular, not plural. that's a big difference
also, I don't have a clue about IVE, I don't stan them, I don't even know one name, so I did not know there was a minor. another example can be loona, that has yeojin. she was 14 when she debuted, and I clearly expressed how I feel about idols this young. same goes with other groups and the fact that every group had at least one minor at one point DOES NOT MAKE IT BETTER. like at all.
also the last sentence creeps me out even more wth
@simplythatsillygirl yeah. I guess the Min Heejin situation probably caused people to be more concerned about their ages. That would make sense.
Hanni always gets me with her parts in Hurt and Hype Boy
I just LOVE how they look like they're having so much fun, big smiles while looking at each other. We must protect those smiles at all cost!!!

Danielle is the one doing most of the adlibs for Hurt, especially during the second chorus, it's shown in the live stages :3
Its being marketed to a global audience. Its super sexual and very uncomfortable.

Like I said in a previous comment to you- I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed a groups music as much as NJ since I discovered Loona.
i dont even care about the lyrics or cookie anymore, im too busy vibing at the music😭😭

Hyein has been working in the entertainment industry since she was 7. She was on tv,in a music group before, and professional model.

you know, if the industry insists on churning out these young idols, they really should rethink the way they write their 'one-size-fits-all' lyrics, cause it clearly doesn't work anymore.
Danielle, I love the way she is cute, kind and charismatic but at the same time she awakens that dominance confidence, her smile is like sunshine

LMAOO we had the same reaction to hype boy. likeee why was i so happy and excited hearing the song ??? idek these girls 😭
Cookie means CD .
Not sexual .
Koreans doesn't think sexual lyrics .
koreans may not think that, but the english lyrics have a double meaning.
@@jamnana2235 i totally agree with you
I'm not American, so I wouldn't know about fan culture in either countries from first hand, I've only interacted with them and, sorry but in my opinion unless you know the person directly there's no way of telling their intentions. In all this I hope I'm wrong and no one was like this, but that's a really naive perspective, especially when someone's young.
한국에선 쿠키를 서양처럼 이상한의도를갖고 사용하지않아요...

I was wondering why they had doubts
In the West, it can be seen that cookies contain sexual things.
However, there has not been a single article in Korea, and people do not even know the reason for the controversy. (Controversy that I would never have known if I hadn't looked up the reaction video)
There is no double meaning of cookies in Korea
It's not a problem.
Korea has been using Confucianism as a doctrine, and it has only recently changed the open culture of the West as cool
Sexual jokes are still completely taboo for teenagers in Korea, and I want to tell foreigners who say they need to protect newjeans in this industry.
They are safe and signed with the company when they were young, and their parents agreed to it, and the first generation of K-pop groups debuted in that way. That there was no problem.
It's not that I'm Korean and I don't understand you guys, but I'm Filipino in another comment, but like he says he doesn't understand the controversial part
Fact is the difference in culture, not the part where their director will be criticized.
There is no reason to be obsessed with age.
In Korea, if the lyrics suggest sexual parts (that Koreans know), it is controversial enough even for adult singers.
The bottom line is the difference in culture, and even if you think the double meaning is clear
It is absolutely impossible to make such a prank with teenage girls in Korea.
(Already protesting and going crazy)
In Korea, baking cookies means making a CD,
In the video, there is also a scene where cookies are changed to CD.c.d.
The Korea Communications Commission censors sexual matters in the first place. (as if Jenny's nurse outfit was deleted from the blackpink mv)
I am a fan of newjeans, and I am afraid that foreign fans will leave because of this inconvenience..
Please understand that the context of the article is not correct using a translator.
Thank you for the video :)
Kpop idols have been debuting since 14 from the beginning of kpop.
Their are young singers, dancers ,models actors and actress all around the world since the beginning of the entertainment industry.
They are the once that audition no one made them
It is their choice. Please their parents support and respect their decision.
i am well aware, this doesn’t make it any less weird tho
They are even younger in the United States.
again, doesn’t make it any less weird for me
If one in five people defecated in front of everyone in plain sight, would you do the same? No (although who knows by your logic). So here adults use children for their own benefit. Even Snsd's Taeyeon said she regrets debuting so early as she was 17. Her entire childhood and teenage years were filled with training, she didn't make friends at school, the only attention she got was creepy guys who like schoolgirls with an innocent concept who dance and sing to children's songs in short skirts.
22:11 is Haerin! She has excellent vocals!

If the members werent this young id probably stan them bc of how good music they make so this is unfortunate
yeah i am conflicted too tbh, the music is so good but they’re literal children…
Y'all either only think of yourselves or just plain indenial that these young girls are more talented than y'all .

ahhhhhhhhh newjeans reaction video by gigiiiiii
"i want to make you lose your appetite. i'm hiding it, but i want to see you more," "looking at my cookie (taste it) you can't stop one bite with me," "you'll lose your mind till you don't want other tastes," "take it, don't break it, i want to see you taste it," "come and take a lookie, baked at my place only, come get some." it's like trying to tell me that flo rida really is just talking about an instrument in "whistle." it doesn't take a degree in literary analysis to understand what it's really trying to say.
i think people /want/ to truly believe that it is not a euphemism and is harmless and innocent, as i would like to believe too, so that we don't have to confront the uncomfortable fact that these minors are singing and dancing to a song with sexual meaning and instead get to enjoy the song without guilt.
i 100% believe the writers/producers knew it had sexual undertones, but they just don't care, as really the whole industry never cares when it comes to debuting minors and the sexualization of minors and their idols in general.
no skip album
Have you reacted to Ditto or OMG yet? They're good.
theyre going to dominate MAMA's and MMA. I wouldnt be surprised if they won SOTY
i am praying for it to happen istg
Cookie = Their album. Not sexual meaning
that's why i love hurt
2nd gen Stan .but new jeans hard. Imo 4thgen queens
Danielle was on tv and did some modeling before.
i dont know why peolpe decide on their own without fact checking this song made me realize that the word has that meaning in my whole life most asian people probably do
also i do not like the amount of dismissal people have abt cookie's lyrics, like i get people saying theres a different context in terms of languages but stans are quick to dismiss other nuanced conversations by just saying it means a "cd"??? a ton of the lyrics are american phrases but translated into korean and multiple knets have also displayed their concern for the lyrics so its weird to jump to the defense of the company without having any proper discussions about how strange it is
yes agree with every word
the company (ador) addressed it
I like cookie. is a very very very very good song and I love newjeans. favorite gg group of mine i love the members too but i can't lie and say cookie wasn't sexual cause it is i wish people would stop saying is not cause it is and it is what it is lol
All 3 songs are their title tracks.
New Jeans music hits
May I ask why you’re not a fan of the wardrobe? 6:05
it’s just that it’s all so very short for underage people. but that’s not a hybe/ador issue tho, it’s a very much worldwide spread thing that i’m not a fan of but it’s just my stand on this, everyone is free to do as they please yk
CHECK OUT THE MDR LIVE BAND OF HURT AND ATTENTION IF U HAVE SOME TIME :)
41:31 its minji
Cookie had to be Bibi song, it has her vibe 😕
Where you now? Why you stop reacting to them? 😢
I just remembered another reactor who would check on a few things online during the reaction. Its possible to do it without spoiling yourself about the video. Sorry if it came out wrong...you won't hear from me again.
@@gavinlaciste161 ah alright. sorry for the pissed off answer but i’ve been deleting insults from the comments the whole day so i read it as such but that’s actually not what you meant and i can see it now. i apologize again!
Hanni is not 12; she's 18. :)
"COOKIE"는 한국어로는 전혀 문제없는 귀여운 노래인데, 이것이 영어로는 불편한 내용인가보네요. 하지만 "COOKIE = CD ALBUM"이다.
New jeans future of kpop,
The english lyricas are questioable. People from korea or that speaks korean though says it doesn't sound that bad as its suppost to be innocent but as we all see the english translation it does sound very very bad. I dont know tbh someone prbly explains it better.
there is a korean translator that did a whole article about it and he said that the lyrics were in fact inappropriate 😩
Cap
@@odomisan who?
The thing is they’re marketing NewJeans as an international appealing group, they should had made changes to the lyrics
@@wilkinlow right?? i understand that in korean might be less of a problem (still, that’s bs because people are starting to understand what we mean) but nj is targeted in THE WEST. they knew exactly what they were doing
Le sserfirm is still doing very well.
yes, i wasn’t talking about the group, i was talking about controversies
6:33 Who DOESN'T eat their cake like that? What's YOUR problem for not eating your cake like that?
People watch k-pop, and then complain about the idols debuting young. Of course it is not a good thing, but if you are not comfortable, don't watch them or promote them. Trying to gain viewership using their name, and then cribbing about their ages sounds so tiring.
wasn't michael jackson 5 yrs old when he started ?
that doesn’t make it any less bad so i don’t see your point. just because it happened before doesn’t mean it’s not harmful wtf
The choreo of Cookie is so cool 👍👍 and the song is so good 👍👍, ooh and a person that you noticed in HYPE Boy and Hurt Is the same, her name Is Hanni from Vietnam 😊
That voice was haerin
