they are breathe of fresh air in kpop with all the noise music which you need to listen to 100 times to like them cause it's beat changing and out of normal music format it's nice to have a group that makes nostalgic and good on first listen music

They honestly have a very diff approach towards kpop and its honestly so good. The song cookie is actually not a sexual song the word cookie is used for their cd. Thats why their cd keeps appearing in the mv.

Some people are literally ignoring the fact that 'cookie' is also described as baking CDs in korean. Sure the team could pick a better english lyrics imo but the fact that people just pick the 'sexual interpretation' and make a whole narrative about how ADOR purposely trying to sexualize these girls are just unreasonable.

You're the first reactor who's pointed out the off-beat behind "Hype Boy" - I've watched a lot of reactions and strangely none seem to focus on the music/production and gravitate on the members/their producer/the "controversy" behind Cookie. Thanks, Sam, I appreciate your insight, after all, we are discovering their music, too. They are a huge hit in Korea, getting an "all-kill" on their music charts, as well as winning music show trophies (MCountdown on Thursday/Music Bank on Friday). With reactors reacting to their songs, I imagine they'll hit Billboard soon enough.

The lyrics in Korean are actually pretty innocent, I’ve seen so many people explaining it but here in the West we sexualize it 🙄

I'm so angry that west people judging them for the lyrics. Here in korea, we don't see the lyrics sexual at all. I'm kinda curious about that ppl in the west culture think that they are the center of the world?? Like do they have to censor the lyrics in english too when they belong in the K-POP group literally? cookies mean CDs. Baking cookies means making Muic CDs. In Korea, the expression "baking" is also used when making game CDs or music CDs.
The reason why it was expressed like that was because it took a long time to make CDs in the past, generated a lot of heat, and the CDs made were warm.
And in Korea, when making windows CD, they used the expression to bake it.
The lyrics that you will only want the cookies I made means that you will only listen to the music made by Newjeans.

There is also a rumor that the composer deliberately wrote the lyrics because he was English.

Some English words or sentences have bad meanings in other countries or cultures.
Other countries or cultures do not show discomfort with such negative English words or lyrics. Because they understand it doesn't mean that.
You guys need to understand this part.
If you guys interpret Korean in English, there will be something that has a negative meaning. But if you guys don't use it in that sense in Korea, you should understand it, too.
Korean is completely different in grammar from English. There are many abstract expressions, too. Many new expressions also appear.
I hope that people who misunderstand cookie music as sexual expression can read this article and understand cultural differences and resolve misunderstandings.
And I'd appreciate it if you guys could explain it to people who are misunderstanding.

If theres really nothing I experienced in the past then why do I feel nostalgic!? Like there's something in new jeans's music which really cannot be explained. They are a really fresh group and I'm here for it.
It's the first group with 3(!) title tracks! ("Hurt" is a b-side). It feels like a fresh air in k-pop after all of these groups with girl-cruch concept. They already broke records after debuting! And this one girl that you like - Danielle :)
I love New Jeans. Been a BTS stan ever since and keep waiting for a girl group who will challenge the status quo in KPOP like BTS did and here they are. The music is right up my alley.

This girls are doing so well, I've never felt for any girl group this fast, they turn to be my favorites almost instantly. Their songs are so good, the concept is refreshing and diferent, the choreos are fun and the vocals so great.

What a pleasant listenable breath of fresh air in a sea of gawdy often frenetic K Pop output. It is nice to hear a girl group which strips out overproduction and circus to simply present easily approachable music.
Ive recently watched them too and they are different, they are minimal makeup, amazing clean vocals and the word would be refreshing....love the Hurt video....like them a lot!

If you told me that chorus of attention was from a Jill Scott or India Arie song I would totally believe it. What a breath of fresh air. This whole 90s/Y2K R&B soulful sound. Those chords in Attention are so jazzy and groovy. Not used to hearing those Jazz and almost Neo-Soul inflections coming from a Kpop idol group. They took a risk and paid off!

1. In Korea, it's common ideology for them to refer CDs as Cookies and vice versa.
2. NewJeans age range is same as Ive, weeekly, billlie etc
3. Mhj controversy is baseless. whatever goes on in her personal life never interfered with her work. More over if everyone was to boycott these girls since they're under ADOR, I ask all kpoppies to boycott their favs under Big3 cuz LSM, YG and JYP are far far worse.
I understand how everyone (mainly in West) would perceive lyrics as "inappropriate" and that's because of western ideology where innuendos like this are quite common.
In Korea however, Cookies are common analogy for "music"/CDs.
Most of the kpop fans have been deliberately ignoring the Korean narrative and trying to run with their western one, further spreading misinformation. Trying to eradicate a whole cultural difference and meaning is downright hypocrisy and racist

For hype boy they have their own versions mv. The one you react is just a performance video.
And one thing I like as well, they don't rap... some song & music don't need a rap line and this is exactly an example of a great, groovy song that doesn't need a rap part. Sometimes, some group force raps that it felt forced and I love that NJ have none of it, just a cool groovy chill vibe going and going.
