They are and always will be amazing cars. I'd put a fishnet recaro interior back in this though and the roll cage would be gone.

@Guinness it's a factory fitted X pack, rare as hens teeth and The road race looks been done to death. I'm all for a modified Capri as I have 5.7ltr V8 in mine, but one like this I certainly wouldn't strip out the interior but each to their own.

My Grandad had a 2.8litre special in black... For most of the year it was kept under rugs but when it was brought out in the summer it always felt like a special occasion. Unfortunately he passed away last year and my Dad had to sell the car but I hope one day to locate it and buy it back as the car would have a lot of sentimental value to me

I only clicked on this because my Dad and a mate had Capris when I was a nipper. Following the details on that polycarbonate windows manufacturer, I then discovered they actually make them for a Fiat Coupé. Absolutely over the moon as I've been looking for some for ages for my project car! Then I saw the builder has put carbon fibre panels all through the interior. I decided to do this on the Coupé two weeks ago and couldn't find an example anywhere. Looks as good as I'd hoped it would.
Fantastic car. I love seeing people putting effort into making classics like this perform. Restoring them just keeps them old and flawed. I think it's far better to improve them with modern techniques and technology but keep the character that defines them. I only hope they've replaced the live axle 🤦🏼‍♂️

    Beautiful car.
I loved my White 1600 Ford Capri (1983 model) which I bought 30 years ago for £500...a bargain !
It got me to work on the worst of winter frosts...started first time every early morning.
The only problem was the light weight back which would dance along icy back roads....your steering and handling was put to the test but had great laughs and memories in my precious beautiful car.
Back then it was unusual for a female to drive such a car and I was always challenged by teenagers in their souped up cars for a race when stopped at lights in town.
It gave me great satisfaction to leave them behind like dust in the wind as my car flew with little acceleration.
    Great day's back then. 🤗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You need to up rate the engines, I’ve owned 3 3lt Capris since the 70’s, 2 Mk1’s and a Mk2.
Although quick in their day they only had around 140bhp when standard!
They need some big valve heads and a nice cam at the very least.
Made mine much quicker together with a few other mods!
Unless of course all you want to do is polish it and take it to shows🥱!

We used to own an x-pack 3.0s factory edition in 1988, my dad at the time used to drop me off at school in it, it was black with a Red interior and it was very loud. 07/04/2023, the car was actually bored out to a 3.1, the loudness of that car was something special, same person also had an ex police capri, that had a full janspeed exhaust, so another that was loud, he didn`t keep that for long, it was rotten underneath apparently, he swapped it for an A reg xr3i in gunmetal grey with cloverleaf alloys, i remember that car being in nice condition, i could go on, just my original comment brought back a few other memories, sorry.

  • @arthurdardalis

The 3.1 litre conversion and the triple carbs were actually available from the series X catalogue, very expensive items. The Chinese JBW wheels look terrible, it needs the original 7.5 inch wide ATS 4-spokes. The latches front and rear are awful and the interior is well.... It would have been better for originality and value if he had kept the interior standard and added the complete list of available extras from the Series X catalogue

A mate put me onto a one of a kind clean minter white 2.0 sport capri that was traded in for a Mk2 XR2 many moons ago. 27 years exactly. The guy that owned it drove the crap out of the gold seal engine then traded it in.
As a 2nd year Ford apprentice this was amazing to come aross the dials shape of the car and wish i never sold it. As if i had of had the technical experience in later years id of stripped and rebuilt the engine never seen a shell as clean engine bay would of been as clean as this for sure.
Grand in a straight line, but an dose in the wet, unless set up correctly i guess. But all in all iconic shape regardless , this model is one to dream of for sure.

Had two 3L S Capris, but only with three speeds. #1 dry 'fast', #2 wet 'careful' & #3 snow&ice 'parking'. #2 & #3 were considerably lesser exciting with 50 - 100 kg in boot. The torque and stiffer suspension made it very fast in town, while 120/5 mph and under 8 secs to 60mph in 1970/80s added to fine 'chuckable' handling made it probably best in sports class while still room for family, large dog and holiday luggage. Very arguably worthy of #1 ranking as an overall package but at Ford Pricing and quality. Definitely examples "oldies is goldies" status

It looks modern to me , I had a 2.8 laser with pepperpots when I was 14 in 1993 ,I bought it from Stoodlys Car Auction in Manchester,I even had the 2 slab's in the boot when I 360'd it into a wall 3 weeks later 👍🏽

Wow, a 2.8 laser! Very, very rare, it must have been the only one in the UK!

      Ford didn't produce a 2.8 laser

      @@crossy7225 My point exactly.
Probably a 1.6L, some clocks stuck on the dash, a 'go faster' stripe down the side, tiger skin seat covers, 2 anti static strips draped from the rear bumper and a couple of slabs (I think he meant slags) in the boot.
Rare to see today but quite common back in the day. Those with a spanner and jack used to put jacking up bars on the rear leaf springs.
I don't think he had that knowledge (or a spanner or jack). 😂

Rare mint capri. Like I always say it would of been worth more if it had been original factory spec interiors and without other mods.
