Bin the viscous, buy an electric fan and alloy rad , standard rad is pants . The resister behind the dash controls the temp and fuel gauge readout if that's knackered it'll read incorrectly mate . You're also missing the rad cowling too but if you buy an alloy rad and fit an electric fan then you'll be fine . I own a 83 2.8i at the min and I've owned countless v6 Capris over the years . Cheers Mick (Lancs Capri Club)
Thanks for the comment and really useful advice, much appreciated Mick. 👍 Hope you stay tuned to follow the progress I make with the car and I look forward to hearing from you again on the next video. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
This car is a survivor, it's obviously been cared for and it's great that it's gone to another careful home, this classic will go on to show another generation, what simple clean computerless motoring looks like!
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
The Capri 2.8i was quite something in its day. I remember - how can i forget - trying to beat one at the traffic lights in King’s Lynn in my MG Midget in 1982 - on the evening of my engagement!! It was about midnight and drawling up to the traffic lights I thought “I’ll have him”. He followed me all through the town and then when the unrestricted Speedo sign appeared I floored it and he did as well. Of course he breezed past me - 1300 twin carb v 2.8i no contest. To my horror the famous sign flipped up at the back of the capri - ‘STOP POLICE’ I stopped. My mum who was 6 months pregnant with my 20 years younger brother inside her told me “don’t try and outrun him”. “Mum”, i said’ “what are you talking about, I’m your son not a criminal!” Inspector Hansel talked to me about my driving behaviour. Lovely polite chap. I explained I wasn’t really aware of my speed. Not a great defence I admit. But when he told me “But you were doing 50 MPH past the police station”: I knew that I was in trouble. Still, he was gentlemanly enough not to breathalyse me but to write out a speeding ticket with the parting words “and you should know better than to endanger your beautiful wife in her condition” - referring of course to my mother who always looked a lot younger than her age and really was quite a looker. Thank you Inspector Ansell and if you are reading this “cheers!” Old fashioned policing at its very best. I took the hint.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing the story. 👍 Sorry for the delayed reply; I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Thanks for the comment John - great to know seeing the Capri brought back some fond memories. It must have been amazing to own one back when they were new / near new. Thanks for watching.
Fluffy dice and screen strips (with names) are still available, decades on. Was never interested 'back then' but, they've grown on me. Nice purchase. Good colour.
I wouldnt start digging to deep with this one, i suspect that paintwork is hiding some horrors. I'd freshen it up with low cost easy bits like number plates, boot struts etc and change the bits that have been overpainted like the A post courtesy switches, various grommets, and give the top mounts a lick of black, then enjoy a few shows and then pass it on. I suspect a bit of buyers remorse with this one.
It's really not a great example is it, all the overspray under the bonnet! Body coloured strut tops and bonnet pull cable! It's clearly had a very quick and cheap blow over and thrown through the auctions unfortunately
Buying one of these at your age is hardly exciting. I had a 3.0 litre auto Capri when I was 19 years old. My current diesel Peugeot 3008 has more horsepower than that Capri, whereas in 1979 they were considered very powerful.
I drove one when I had an XR3i in 1986. Even then you could tell it was old technology, loved the exhaust note though. The 0-60 time was helped by the fact the gearing was so long it would do it in second gear. The cologne engine is robust, not as torquey as the Essex, but of its time.
@@cornishcarcollectors First car I ever bought myself was a 1987 (E645SDB) a bright red Capri 2.8 Injection special , it was about three years old at the time , what people forget in the V6 form the capri was the Cosworth before the Cosworth lol "Of its day" It was by far the fastest Ford in a straight-line , it would eat Rs turbos and XR3i .
It's had rear arches & wings which is super common. Really difficult to get the wings to fit properly. Never seen one with the rear lights upside down! The parcel shelf is a Club copy, they're actually pretty good to be fair. The painted turret tops is a pet hate of mine!
Nice Capri, we used them as patrol cars in GMP traffic, loved to drive them first one I drove was OVR475R 3.0 s, right to the end of the 2.8i, that’s a rare find not many like that in good original condition, most have been vandalised by the boy racers. You won’t have any problems selling it, but it’s a nice addition to your Ford collection, you have sort of encapsulated all the tasty fords of that era well done.
Thanks for the comment Gary - must have been amazing to drive these cars back when they were new! It is nice to get a standard car and this Capri is very tidy, but as with all old cars... there will be work to be done! Thanks for watching and good to hear from you.
RUC traffic branch, Northern Ireland used the 2.8i as well. Interesting to hear GMP used them to. The Capri 2.8i was replaced with V6 Sierra and Granada 4x4s.
Its amazing how the years have made these cars such iconic classics, i remember my 2.8i putting 4 pot brakes on trying to improve the suspension, then it was wheels and a Turbo Tail and RS Front spoiler. Now it would be the reverse and try and turn everything back to original! Great car, definitely one that will be interesting to many Good move changing the fan, i would have done that anyhow was quite common that these would spin off, might also look at thw water pump while you do it
Thanks for the comment Glen and suggestion about the water pump - stay tuned to the Channel to see how I get on with the 'hot running' on the car. As you say, the Capri was a cheap and often modified car back in the late 80s / through the 90s... now a standard and original car is the goal. Thanks for watching - hope to hear from you on the next Capri video.
If you are considering driving the car regularly - especially during (lol) our sporadic heatwaves ! or giving it some spirited beans, I would recommend that you make a little mod first. Near the top on the right hand side of the radiator I would fit an after market cold air fan blowing towards and over the inlet manifold, I had several 2.8 i's in the 80's and the most bloody irritating problem I repeatedly had with all of them was , after running like a lovely little sewing machine for hours on end five minutes after you turned the ignition off not one of them would even consider restarting , ever ! - you could run the battery dead just trying, but if you left them for an hour or so they would burst into life first turn of the key without you doing a thing and just sit idling like a turbine, fortunately for me I was a mechanic at the time and after MUCH anguish and frustation over a considerable amount of time, narrowed it down to the fuel sitting in the injectors themselves atomising through heat soak causing a vapour lock which prevents them operating, letting it cool down allowed the fuel to reliquify and she would fire off without hesitation every time which was when I first had the idea to install an old heater fan mounted on the side of the radiator connected to a timer, it was pretty crude that first one, even a bit Heath Robinson, but running it on the timer for ten minutes blowing over the inlet manifold with the bonnet shut cured it instantly every single time, today of course all common rail fuel injection systems use electronic nozzle valves in the tips of the injectors, and the system stays semi pressurised even when the engine is off so you never get this problem anymore. but ohhhh man the sheer tear inducing anger and frustration of back then I can still remember vividly to this day....of course being ladies they NEVER did it when you were the only person around.........ohhhh no they HAD to wait until there was a crowd nearby sniggering at your "peice of crap" (bloody heathens grrr).
Thanks for the comment and advice, and sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Ha! Thanks for the comment. I cannot believe you are the first to notice and point this out! Thanks for spotting it and for watching, I appreciate it. 👍🏻
Enjoy it and get it restored. As others have said, alloy rad, kenlowe fan, youre laughing. Had loads of these, 46 to be exact, ran a 1.6, 2.0, 2.8 and 3.0 daily and they never let me down. I nearly had one same colour, silver over nimbus grey, i had a glacier blue over caspian blue 2.8 and that was a rare colour combo. They are without a doubt, one of the nicest looking cars ever made.
Looks decent in general. Shame someone pained the strut tops and even the electronic ignition module. It also has the wrong radiator cap on it and the expansion tank doesn't look correct. I have an '83 2.8i and the temp gauge never gets beyond around a quarter even in warm temperatures. They fitted an 82 degree thermostat to these, which means they should run a little cooler than other Capri's, hence the lower gauge reading. I had my standard radiator re-cored with an uprated matrix so it still looks all original but is more efficient. Even in the high temps last summer it never got too warm. Key is to ensure to flush the system through and use a good antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor to keep rust and sludge build up to a minimum. Then, use it regularly and enjoy it!
Thanks for the comment and advice, I appreciate it. Sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.

My father bought a 1972 mercury capri in Philadelphia, pa….and it looked a lot like this ford badge that is a decade newer. It was a terrific car to drive. What fun.
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Had a few 3.0 Capri's, Mk1 3000GXL, Mk2 3.0S and a Mk2 3.0 Ghia, great fun, check behind the front wheels between the wing and bulkhead side for corrosion, also above the front wheel on the back of the wing rail and strut brace, they do like to rust. 2.8 and 3.0 V6 sound wonderful.
Yeah you have a nice looking Car , l would say the temperature does worry me & I would have put in a better fan or fans to keep the car extra cool , wow the rear lights upside down weird one there , you can always fix up the faded ford badges, if you have a steady hand & brush. If you have room & money just keep the bloody cars. Cos l know you'll whinge all night long if you sell. Enjoy from Melbourne Australia 🙄🙄😁😁😭😭
Thanks for the comment Sean. Driven the car over 100 miles now and it likes running at 75%... still no signs of overheating, but a new Viscous Fan is on its way! Stay tuned to the Channel to see how the Capri progresses. Thanks for watching.
After coaxing my first car to keep running, a Hillman Imp, for about a year, with increasingly limited success, I got a promotion at work and bought a metallic green 2.0ltr Capri, with a black vinyl roof - it had the V4, which looked tiny under the bonnet - but it was truly fabulous to drive - only had it about 6month though, before I was offered a company car (in those days totally free to me) so, sadly, I had to let the Capri go...
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history. Sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
I suppose like most of us ,the regret with sold, old cars is the fact we had nowhere to store them. I was going to sea for work , my car was out of MOT the next day , police passed and eyeballed the car, that unnerved me , it needed a handbrake cable, I had to drive the thing to the scrappy, and walk back home. Talk about timing! All for a handbrake cable(, I didn't anticipate any other MOT fails). Oh for off road storage ........
Always wanted a Brooklands, remember seeing a brand new one in the 80's in a Ford dealership in Manchester. Did own a Capri back around 1993 but only for about 4 months, my Dad also my one and fell asleep behind the wheel and when he woke up he was almost upside down, when he woke up he said he was all confused and turned the key and the car started, then he realised he was off the road. Best of luck with her.

that Capri looks in really good nick. I was always a Capri fan, owning a 1971 mk1 1600 and a 1979 Orange 1.6GL in the mid 1980's. i then got newer cars while serving in the RAF until i left in 1997 . in civvy street i picked up a nice 1986 Capri 2.8 injection special. only 3 owners from new! and only £2750 ... I spent about £2k on engine upgrade and a Janspeed exhaust system, a few tweaks and conversion to unleaded (as 4* was on the way out) .. i kept my Capri for 7 years , used daily.. apart from the rear wheel arches needing repair , the only bodywork issue was the usual sort of spot welding for MOT - oh and a new bonnet and bumper when i hit a COW which had wandered into the road on Dartmoor. i loved it.. and everyone would always admire wherever i went. it was Ford's Rosso Red ( ie RED RED ) and i was sad to see it go . def enjoyed driving it and go glad i had the opportunity before the remaining examples are going for crazy money ...
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history - the Mk1 must have been nice, but your Rosso Red 2.8i Special sounds amazing! I appreciate your thoughts on my Capri; there is work to be done, but the car is running and driving really nicely... I am loving owning it. Thanks for watching.
I owned a 1985 2.8 Injection Special (with LSD) metallic silver, grey leather which I bought from my Father in 1990, all these years later I wish I still had it, I'm not sure it would have survived my mid-twenties driving, but that does not stop me reminiscing about the greatest RWD car I ever owned.
I was a huge fan of Ford during this era. Granada 2.8i and Capri 3.0S and 2.8i were the dream cars. Of course a young guy couldn't even dream of Porsche 911 or Ferrari back then. Too bad for Ford they always made obnoxious versions of their best models, like Granada 1.7 and Capri 1.3 and 1.6 Laser. Capri 3.0S and 2.8i were very fast cars by the standards back then. And the design have stood surprisingly well against the test of time. Still very, very good looking car and I'm glad they're finally getting the respect they deserve. Sure the rear axle construction is pretty cheap but it's all about the looks and feel.

I did alright for myself. Learning in the early 21st century, I got to have all 4 for not a lot of money: 2.8i Capri (x2), 3.0S Capri, 2.8 carb Granada limousine and a Ferrari 308. Bearing in mind this was years before Top Gear did their 'Supercar for the price of a Mondeo' sketch, so they were even cheaper when I had mine than they were on TG! You can't buy a non-runner now for the price of a minter then. That applies to pretty much of the cars, especially the Ferrari. Capris were much more fun though.

Very nice car. I have always liked the mk3 and last year I was a passenger in my friends 2.8 . Sadly his overheated at Mount Edgecumbe last year and it is still not working. Oddly enough his car is in Saltash and I do car delivery for that auction place.
Thanks for the comment - I can always count on @CortinasAndClassics to be one of my first watchers, much appreciated. They can be prone to overheating which is why I was wary on that first drive home... because the weather was so hot! the Viscous Fan has no resistance when you hold it (whilst the car is running) so I am hoping swapping that out for a new one will sort it. Hope your friend's car gets sorted and, as always, thanks for watching.
Thinking of selling it straight away! The front inner wing repairs look a mess, Overspray everywhere on the paintwork and if you break the paint on it i reckon it's got a fair amount of filler in it! Buyers remorse?
Thanks for the comment - no buyer’s remorse here, just a realisation that the Capri needs a fair bit doing… and I’ve lots of other projects. Having said this, I’ve really enjoyed the Capri this Summer and am starting with the jobs - hope you stay tuned to see the progress as this Capri isn’t going anywhere. Thanks for watching.
Had to watch this after being a Capri 3.0S owner in my early twenties - insurance was more than the car cost lol. Once had a sleep over at a friends house when I was about ten, and the first thing I said to my mum when she picked me up was "they have a Ford Capri with electric windows...." It was an Aston Martin
Thanks for the comment Kevin and for the advice... I have since managed to get the sunroof working. Hoping you get chance to see my update videos on the Capri as you'll see I am making progress, albeit slow! Thanks for watching.
Traded my 78 mk2 3.0S for a 82 blue over silver 2.8. My first brand new car. Early four speed car, quite difficult to come by, I was lucky to get a cancelled order. I loved that car and this video brings back so many memories, thank you.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history... sounds like you had some nice ones! It's good to know the video brought back some fond memories. Hoping you subscribe and stay tuned for future videos on the Capri. Thanks for watching.
I've had 2 of these an early X reg graphite and silver and a B reg Special in white and neither had any problems with the sunroof or overheating. The early recaros did wear on the outer edge but the leather ones were fine. Both were factory standard with original radios and electric aerials but the Special had a vinyl roof as the first owner had always had Ghia models before so had the dealer fit one when new. The only modifications made were a double front roll bar and A-frame on the rear axle to stop it moving side to side and tramping. Wish I still had them, both massively better than a Sierra XR 4x4 that I had in between them.
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Im currently using a mk1 2.8 xr4x4 as a daily....with the cosworth front grill it doesnt have any overheating issues....on my 80 mile commute its actually running a bit cold whillst sitting on the a12!
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. Well done on daily'ing a Sierra XR4x4; great car and IMO a decent alternative to a more modern car. Sierras drive incredibly well. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri. Appreciate you subscribing and taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Had a red Capri 1.6 for 13 years. Loved it. Bit of a challenge driving round the West End (when it was allowed) with the tight corners. Sold it when daughter complained she had to climb out of the rear seat. LoL. Poor man's Aston Martin.
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Had 1977 mk2 3.0 Ghia Auto at 19 & 1979 3.0s mk3 manual at 23. Still have a 1983 2.0s mk3 5speed at 55! Still enjoy driving a Capri now as much as did back in the day. Bought my 2.0s unseen at auction in lockdown. Best purchase i have ever made.
Thanks for the comment, it is great to know you think the Capri was a good buy. I've made a few videos on this car since purchasing it, so please take a watch as I do share how much I paid in the next video... be interested to know if you still think it's a good price when you find out what I paid. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it.
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on the Capri. I am certainly enjoying it and hope you stay tuned to see how the car progresses. Thanks for watching.
Good video, the 280 shown belonged to me. Courtesy lights in the footwell non standard as is the electric windows. I could go on but the list of mod’s go on reg number D285 BWP not forgetting the Kenlow electric fan. I still have all the pics and trophies.

I bought a car at an auction in Cornwall in 1992, i think it was inTruro.I bought a Golf gls Auto 82 for a higher than average price and it had some rust spots. It wasn't s Cornish car i found out later. Those engines and injection setup are very good and economical in the fuel. I had the dame engine and running gear in my TVR andbi had years of trouble free driving. I'd update the radiator to an alloy radiator larger core and look at a better later electric fan. I replaced the thermo switch

Great car, I used to have a 1984 1.6 LS, then a Probe, then a Focus 2.0 titanium. I currently own a 2015 Focus ST with a Mountune MP 275 upgrade but Capri's are still great.🙂
Thanks for the comment Martin and for sharing your car history, which is a nice line up of cars indeed. Like you, I went from a Capri to (a few years later) a Probe and I really did like the car. Your ST sounds a nice car; they are great to drive. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video.

I bought my red 2.8i in August 1991 (nearly 32 years ago) she has had a lot of new parts including track control arms, steering gaiters, tie rod ends, hand brake cable, brake discs, M16 calipers, pads, a custom 1 piece propshaft, front indicators, speedo cable and 1st June finally got the new tyres. Been stored over 3 years so hopefully maybe July I'll be able to m o t her. Mine is a really early 'Y' reg 8th July 1983. To keep her company I bought a MK1 3 litre GT in 2004 that is now an ETCC ford "works" touring car replica in blue and white with 16 inch 3 piece split rims and a box arch body kit with a duck tail spoiler. Also m o t exempt only applies to standard cars so has to be as it left the factory. I asked my mate in the r a c and he said whatever you do DO NOT fill the form in. Your MK1 isn't standard. Someone will come to inspect the car and if it fails you lose the tax exemption, the log book, so it will be on a 'Q' plate and then have to pay for the road fund licence.

I'm in Australia, & it still looks like a stunning vehicle nearly 40 yrs later. We got the Capri up until about 1972/73 here . Then any others were privately imported from South Africa or the UK. Keep it, could be an appreciating asset
Thanks for the comment. The Mk3 Capri is a properly handsome car and, like you, I could spend much of the day looking at it and the rest driving it! Thank you for taking the time to watch, please do stay tuned to follow progress with my Capri.
My dad had one when he was younger, he sat me on his knee when i was 3 while driving it! Wish he saved it now! I was born in 94, i ised to speak to him about all these old cars all time, he left us on 29/11/22 at age 51 x
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply. Appreciate you sharing your Capri history; lovely story about you and your dad. Sorry to learn you lost him in 2022. I hope the video brought back some fond memories. Thanks for watching.
My favourite. I loved the Capri 2.8 and 3.0. And Opel Manta, Opel Commodore GS/E and Ford Granada 2.8. So you notice my age 😊. Yours is an excellent choice.
Thank you for the comment, you've a good taste in cars! 😎 I hope you enjoyed the video and have seen some of my other videos both featuring my Capri and some other older Fords. Thanks for watching.
Back in the day I had a white 2.8 with a full ford RS factory body kit with skirts in white, 5 speed box, the same Grey 2 tone Recaro interior and pepper pots. Cost £500 in the early 90’s…I loved that car and it’s engine note…..like Max in his interceptor when waiting for the Nightrider….the speedo cable broke and I popped out to pick up a pizza…..got busted doing 56mph in a 30 and I wasn’t even trying. Had to let it go as it needed a new gearbox and at the time I just didn’t have the cash. Before that I had a lovely black 2.0S with fishnet Recaro’s, a 2.0 GL and a mk2 “minder” square headlight 1.6GL which got side swiped and written off. happy days!

Thanks for the comment. I'll look into the Kenlow as I have read these are a good upgrade. For now, I have a replacement Viscous on its way so will put that on and run the car up... see if it makes the required difference. Thanks for watching.
Another wonderful vid as always. I remember being in the back of a 1.6 of them. It looked amazing to me as a kid and have a big soft spot for them. Thank you for a great vid and bring back wonderful memories 🎉🎉

Always remember seeing a fully liveried Police 2.8i Capri in the late 80s around Merseyside. Now living in Australia and the Aussie Ford Capri was something completely different. A soft top looking more like a Toyota MR2. Just had a google and it turns out that it was Greater Manchester Police that had the Capri.
Yep, is was hot on many days in Cornwall back in June. I recorded 28 deg C on several days mid June and overall the month averaged 25 deg C at my Bodmin weather station. My Peugeot's car temp guage is fairly representative of the actual outside air temp, providing you are driving along. I see you were at Manheim in Salt Ash, been past it several times, but never at the auction. A good condition sporty Ford from the 1980s will keep on appreciating in value. If only I had kept my silver 1987 D reg XR3i, which I sold in 1990 to go to another job! Trouble is between then and now it was outdated, but is now considered a modern classic. I hope my MGF VVC goes up in value sometime, not holding out much hope.
Thanks for the comment - sorry for the delayed reply. I’ve bought several cars from Saltash Auction over the years, I enjoy it. Nice to have a silver Mk4 XR3i in your car history and as for your MG, well I am certain they will appreciate because they are fantastic cars… I know because I have one myself. 👍 Thanks for watching.
When it was getting hot,i assume you had the heat in the cab on full blast with blowers at max? A good "old timers" trick I've remembered for over 40 years.
Thanks for the comment. I did indeed have heaters on full blast - I have done many drives in cars over the years using this trick... you can't beat the old cars! Thank you for watching the video, I appreciate it.
Wow Auction near me..I love Capri's and have had 4 in my younger day right up to a 3.0 ltr ghia which i loved..I have 4 classic vehicles now but not a capri..Great video.

That is superb! It was my bedroom-poster-car, but I never did get one... for me it was certainly one of the prettiest cars of its time. Please also take the non-standard Ford logos off the door sills ?

Thanks for the comment Anthony, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the video and my addiction! I certainly need to sell a few cars to fund my recent purchases, but I just could not pass this Capri up! Stay tuned to see if this was a sensible or stupid decision. 👍
Thanks for the comment, it is always good to hear from people with experience of the Capri. I hope the video brought back some fond memories, thank you for watching.
well nice motor man.i wanted one back in the day but i came across a tasty looking manta gte with a 2.2 and stage 3 head that kinda made me forget about the capri in that moment
Thanks for the comment, great to know you like the Capri. A Manta GTE is an awesome car and wicked to have one in your car history. Personally, I've always fancied owning a Manta but went down the Capri route and doubt I'll ever own a Manta now... cool car. Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate it.
@@cornishcarcollectors yeah i still fancy a 3liter capri but they're arms and legs now so best forget about it eh.plus the govt wants us all in lekkky cars by 2030 which aint that far away from now
I wonder what fuel he put in it, did he go cheap or at least buy v-power(some ethanol)? - Next try Esso Synergy 99, at least no ethanol until Sept 2023 when it changes.
Thanks for the comment... V-Power (premium fuel only in my cars). Sorry for the delayed reply. I hope you have had chance to watch the update videos on the Capri, which I continue to own and enjoy. Appreciate you taking the time to watch, thanks for the support.
Very nice , sunroof did you switch up the small black button in side where the Handel is in the roof ? Also the small parts you need try CCI , Capri gear or Tickover . I would also make sure you have a 82” thermostat as people fit the 87” ones what makes them run hot . But enjoy your rides out 👍👍
Thanks for the comment and your thoughts on the car. I'll check the sunroof just to be sure I was indeed pressing the button and have already asked the garage, once the new viscous is fitted, to run the car up and check the thermostat (useful to know there's a difference in model year). Also, thanks for the suggestion for parts supply and for watching the video. 👍
i,d take the viscos fan off, mine had one when i first bought it, & i think hg had to change the waterpump to be able to have a fan that just went all the time the engine was running

I`m sure you have checked but I believe this car was registered in Birmingham. All those years age (and some) I had a registration for a vehicle COA. Anyway best of luck, I am dead jealous.
Thanks for the comment and for the info about where the car may have originally been registered. I’ve actually not looked into it yet, but you are the second or third person to mention Birmingham so it’s good to know. Thanks for watching, I hope you stay tuned and follow the progress with the Capri. 👍🏻
Yeah I have the 2.8 injection special limited slip. Differential know about a lot 13 seven spoke downloads half leather interior. Mine was and I had a 3 L mark three as well. You need to go to the Capri club HQ as well. See what parts I’ve got thousand and 38 in nickel room carriages, because there was leftover body shells, so yeah I didn’t use time 😅😅😅

Thanks for the comment - if you have followed progress on the Capri then you’ll see I have managed to get the Capri sunroof working! Appreciate the advice and thanks for watching.
I bought a 1976 Capri in Canada for a dollar in 1990. It burned through oil faster than gasoline and was clearly not taken care of. It had a problem with over heating. But the sunroof worked! My parents told me to get rid of it after a few weeks and I sold it for $270. First and last time I ever made money on a car.
Had 2 x 3.0 l JPS both did over 130 k miles before selling them on with no problems . Was not going to get another one but the 2.8 arrived and could not resist . It was quick for the time and would pull 6200 in top when the rev limiter would kick in . The speedo was very optimistic showing 140 + but road tests reckon about 130 . One memorable drive from Bo'ness in Scotland to just outside Birmingham in 3 h 40 m . Could not do that now . That car did about 155 k miles with no problems before selling it . Wished I had got it now instead of a Volvo V70 D5 but that's a pretty good motor in a different sort of way
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history - two JPS and a 2.8 Injection when new, brilliant! Hope the video brought back some fond memories. Thanks for watching.

My next door neighbour had a blue over silver 2.8 special. Very cool. Once went to test drive a 2.8 turbo technics on a Sunday morning but the salesman wouldn’t let me drive it unless I pre-agreed to buy. Think he couldn’t be bothered.
i remember the capri my cousin had one at the time a 3.0 and it drove like a bomb lol he barely touched it , it was in that goldish bronze color , boy they was the days , 1985 i think it was , i wonder if that car is still around , how much is yours lol .😄
I had the older (same shape - MVM 600W) 3.0s in the early 80's (when I was in my twenties) which constantly overheated. After I sold it, I was told it had a Ford Transit radiator fitted!

I had an German 1979, V 6 Webber carburetor and 4speed. Gold Metallic black leather interior and black leatherette roof. I was the second owner. It was 14 " rims standard.
I had a Mk1 V6 Capri GT in Perth Western Australia. I bought it in 1980 and had it until 1989 when I moved to the UK. In Australia,it did not have the reputation the Capri has in the UK as you could easily buy a V8 Ford Falcon or similar Holden Torana.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history, nine years of ownership is impressive. Were you sad to leave it behind? Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors A little bit - the car had quite a few problems including rust making a hole in the bodywork in the front driver side door frame. I'd spent a bit of money on the car over the years. I did buy a Capri 2.0 litre in 1993 when I was in Cardiff and that car saw a lot of miles including going to Le Mans and various F1 races in Europe.including Spa-Francorchamps and driving through Eau Rouge! I replaced it in 1999 with a 1.7l Puma and had tow of those until 2008 when I bought my current car a Nissan 350Z.
Always hated the mix matched door mirrors - porsche did the same with the 924 - easy to solve buy the drivers mirror for left hand drive version - viola two matching driver side style mirrors.

@@JackSmith-x8s Agreed, there's a huge disparity between 1.3 and 3 litre, 1.3.to me is a town shopper car, I would say anything above 2 litre ONLY -- qualifies as a sports car, -- certainly of that era. Some modern smaller engined cars , turbo'd can show its heels, but that's now.
Thanks for the comment. The Capri is a funny one, as you say they were the "epitome of cool" at launch and then descended to being quite the opposite, driven by hairy-chested rouges, before returning to their now retro-cool status. I have always loved them and am glad to have this one albeit I think it will always require work! Thank you for watching.
regarding the bonnet rust: I had an old two tone (silver/grey) xr3i cabby and the bonnet was rotten at the front. Luckily I had a minter one to swap on there. edit: I subscribed when you bought the Cossie, but this is the first video of yours that I am watching. I am from St Austell.
Thanks for the comment, it is always good to hear from a local! All the Fords of the 80s and early 90s suffered with rusty bonnets resulting usually from a few stone chips! I like the XR3i Mk4 Cabriolets in two tone paint, nice cars. 👍 Thanks for subscribing - I hope you enjoy the videos and look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
My first car was a German built Mercury Capri. 2600 engine with 2800 heads and a Holly square bore carb. set to pull like a 4 barrel. Expansion chambers and a 4 speed. It was damn quick...I totalled it. Still sad. That was in 1980. Wow I'm old. .English Ford Racing Green was the color.
Thanks for the comment and wow, you had a fantastic first car! Thanks for sharing your history with a Capri and I appreciate you taking the time to watch.

oh buddy you just took me back to my youth, I`m 62 I bought that model when I was 25 in 85 and loved every minute of owning it
Thanks for the comment John - great to know seeing the Capri brought back some fond memories. It must have been amazing to own one back when they were new / near new. Thanks for watching.
Fluffy dice and screen strips (with names) are still available, decades on.
Was never interested 'back then' but, they've grown on me. Nice purchase. Good colour.
Thank you for the comment and sorry for my delayed reply (lots of comments on this video). Great to know the Capri has grown on you over time. 👍
I had a 3 ltr mk1 face lift capri back in my twenties , absolutely loved the car id love to own another capri .
Great video as always keep them coming
There's A pillar repairs a plenty on it too sadly
It's not the car for him, I agree. That one's for someone to thrash about a bit, then wind the clocks back and sell once the value has soared.
Buying one of these at your age is hardly exciting. I had a 3.0 litre auto Capri when I was 19 years old.
My current diesel Peugeot 3008 has more horsepower than that Capri, whereas in 1979 they were considered very powerful.
Scottish car - _MAJOR_ red flag; they get the snow so they get the SALT!
I drove one when I had an XR3i in 1986. Even then you could tell it was old technology, loved the exhaust note though. The 0-60 time was helped by the fact the gearing was so long it would do it in second gear. The cologne engine is robust, not as torquey as the Essex, but of its time.
Thanks for the comment Mark and for sharing your thoughts on the Capri. Appreciate you watching, thanks for the support.
@@cornishcarcollectors First car I ever bought myself was a 1987 (E645SDB) a bright red Capri 2.8 Injection special , it was about three years old at the time , what people forget in the V6 form the capri was the Cosworth before the Cosworth lol
"Of its day" It was by far the fastest Ford in a straight-line , it would eat Rs turbos and XR3i .
It's had rear arches & wings which is super common. Really difficult to get the wings to fit properly. Never seen one with the rear lights upside down! The parcel shelf is a Club copy, they're actually pretty good to be fair. The painted turret tops is a pet hate of mine!
What the fxxk was the bloke thinking . Wouldn't take much time or newspaper to mask off the turret tops.
There's an ex GMP traffic car on the show scene too . 😊
I used to see ex police 2.8i capric at my local auction in Manchester in the late 80s
RUC traffic branch, Northern Ireland used the 2.8i as well. Interesting to hear GMP used them to.
The Capri 2.8i was replaced with V6 Sierra and Granada 4x4s.
GMP retired their last one in 1996. Great really that they were used alot by them. Awesome cars
Its amazing how the years have made these cars such iconic classics, i remember my 2.8i putting 4 pot brakes on trying to improve the suspension, then it was wheels and a Turbo Tail and RS Front spoiler. Now it would be the reverse and try and turn everything back to original! Great car, definitely one that will be interesting to many
Good move changing the fan, i would have done that anyhow was quite common that these would spin off, might also look at thw water pump while you do it
Thanks for the comment Glen and suggestion about the water pump - stay tuned to the Channel to see how I get on with the 'hot running' on the car.
I love people who snigger, it shows them up for what they are.

Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply.
Wow... you've a fantastic Capri history! Appreciate the advice and thanks for watching.
Top comment and top advice.

Yeah you have a nice looking

& I would have put in a better
fan or fans to keep the car
extra cool , wow the rear
lights upside down weird one
there , you can always fix up
the faded ford badges, if you
have a steady hand & brush.
If you have room & money
just keep the bloody cars.
Cos l know you'll whinge
all night long if you sell.
Enjoy from Melbourne

I remember these had two like driving a speedboat on the motorway in a crosswind when the front end lifted at speed

Still a great looking car ❤
Always wanted a Brooklands, remember seeing a brand new one in the 80's in a Ford dealership in Manchester.
Did own a Capri back around 1993 but only for about 4 months, my Dad also my one and fell asleep behind the wheel and when he woke up he was almost upside down, when he woke up he said he was all confused and turned the key and the car started, then he realised he was off the road.
Best of luck with her.

Glad you enjoyed the video - I hope you stay tuned.
that Capri looks in really good nick.

I owned a 1977 Capri II Ghia with the 2.3 liter 4cyl. Mine was Copper with a tan vinyl interior. What a fun car! I wish I had another.

Those A posts have had a quick blow over too, there paint all over the interior light switch which should be black
That parcel shelf is an aftermarket fiberglass one, CCI sell them.
I had a hell of a job finding a rust free Mk3 3.0S in 1986!

Don't know if you know, but there's a little button up in where the sunroof handle folds into, flick it up for tilt and down for slide

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your Capri history - I hope the video brought back some fond memories.

I had a 2.8 capri and had it turbo charged by turbo technics. What a car wish i still had it

Had a red Capri 1.6 for 13 years. Loved it. Bit of a challenge driving round the West End (when it was allowed) with the tight corners. Sold it when daughter complained she had to climb out of the rear seat. LoL. Poor man's Aston Martin.

Great buy whatever you paid. Beautiful example of a classic.
You guys are doing a great job 👍
Appreciate the comment, thank you. Please do stay tuned to the Channel. 👍
With the underneath solid who cares about the paintwork, that's an easy fix compared to structural rot. That's a lovely car well done 👍🏴😉

Looks a good buy, especially being so solid underneath 👍🙂
Thanks for the comment Ricky, I appreciate your thoughts on the Capri. Thanks for watching, stay tuned to see what comes next for the Capri.

Lost my Burgundy 1.6 laser 4 spoke alloys in 1990,stolen from pay and display carpark in Rotherham, still miss it😢

Mate of mine built a ad Max Interceptor replica out of a mark 1 capri - supercharged shaker through the bonnet, paint job - the lot!
Such a beautiful thing. I could look at it all day x

Appreciate you sharing your Capri history; lovely story about you and your dad. Sorry to learn you lost him in 2022. I hope the video brought back some fond memories.

I hope you enjoyed the video and have seen some of my other videos both featuring my Capri and some other older Fords. Thanks for watching.
I love ford Capri what a car
Thanks for the comment and for watching, I appreciate it.
The GMP loved these but they were very lively at the rear end before the days of Traction Control
Before that I had a lovely black 2.0S with fishnet Recaro’s, a 2.0 GL and a mk2 “minder” square headlight 1.6GL which got side swiped and written off. happy days!

Watching temperature gauges is what a lot of people did back then. Get rid of the viscous fan and get a Kenlow
Thanks for the comment. I'll look into the Kenlow as I have read these are a good upgrade. For now, I have a replacement Viscous on its way so will put that on and run the car up... see if it makes the required difference. Thanks for watching.
The gurgle every morning after starter her up such a sound.i drove my 2.8 from Monmouth to Swansea without a water pump with no probs
Thanks for the comment; there really is something nice about the sound of the 2.8 Injection running. Thanks for watching.
Another wonderful vid as always. I remember being in the back of a 1.6 of them. It looked amazing to me as a kid and have a big soft spot for them.
Thank you for a great vid and bring back wonderful memories 🎉🎉
Thanks for the comment and support as always. Glad the Capri brought back some fond memories and that you enjoyed the video.

I owned a ford Capri 2.8i special 1985 it was a dark maroon colour with black leather fantastic car regretted getting rid of it for a ford Granada 2.8i x pack all black with black leather

Thanks for the comment and for sharing the memory of the Police Capri - I did see one at the NEC Classic Car Show last year.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors Cheers, from Bodmin!

@@cornishcarcollectors my biggest love the ford capris,,,i think u will be ok

well nice motor man.i wanted one back in the day but i came across a tasty looking manta gte with a 2.2 and stage 3 head that kinda made me forget about the capri in that moment

See what parts I’ve got thousand and 38 in nickel room carriages, because there was leftover body shells, so yeah I didn’t use time 😅😅😅

have you pressed the button which makes it tilt?
Thanks for the comment - if you have followed progress on the Capri then you’ll see I have managed to get the Capri sunroof working! Appreciate the advice and thanks for watching.
I bought a 1976 Capri in Canada for a dollar in 1990. It burned through oil faster than gasoline and was clearly not taken care of. It had a problem with over heating. But the sunroof worked!
My parents told me to get rid of it after a few weeks and I sold it for $270.
First and last time I ever made money on a car.
Thanks for the comment and sorry for the delayed reply.
Wow... what a deal! Hoping you enjoyed driving it between oil refills!

I never forget my 1.6 LS with weak struts on boot, it came crashing down on my head 🤕 ended up in hospital needing stitches.
My next door neighbour had a blue over silver 2.8 special. Very cool. Once went to test drive a 2.8 turbo technics on a Sunday morning but the salesman wouldn’t let me drive it unless I pre-agreed to buy. Think he couldn’t be bothered.
He was probably scared you'd wrap it around a light pole!
i remember the capri my cousin had one at the time a 3.0 and it drove like a bomb lol he barely touched it , it was in that goldish bronze color , boy they was the days , 1985 i think it was , i wonder if that car is still around , how much is yours lol .😄
A friend of mine bought one new, slightest hint of dampness and it was wagging its tail and no room in the back "seats" but he loved it.
I had the older (same shape - MVM 600W) 3.0s in the early 80's (when I was in my twenties) which constantly overheated. After I sold it, I was told it had a Ford Transit radiator fitted!

I had a sierra 2.8i xr4x4 years ago but would love an old 2.8 capri now... my brother owned a few and they are just so cool :)

@@cornishcarcollectors A little bit - the car had quite a few problems including rust making a hole in the bodywork in the front driver side door frame. I'd spent a bit of money on the car over the years.
I did buy a Capri 2.0 litre in 1993 when I was in Cardiff and that car saw a lot of miles including going to Le Mans and various F1 races in Europe.including Spa-Francorchamps and driving through Eau Rouge! I replaced it in 1999 with a 1.7l Puma and had tow of those until 2008 when I bought my current car a Nissan 350Z.

I remember when they first came out. They were quite the car and the epitamy of cool!
I remember some early Capri's were 1.3 Snail engined cars.😮
@@ianhill4585 It's funny to reflect that going from a n/a 1.3 to a n/a 1.6 was a big deal and pretty heavy stuff! 😆
