      It kind of is though, if your feet are in line you'll probably end up rounding

    • @pathape
      @pathape ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rounding is so misunderstood. Some or a decent amount of rounding is required for max distance shots. Rounding for touch or lower power shots should be minimal. Almost all pros round on max power shots. Even Joel does. It doesn't matter if you throw far with accuracy.

    • @chrisp9824
      @chrisp9824 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pathape It's not required, pros don't round on their max distance shots. Check out Ezra Aderholds vid called "power pocket explained!! (for distance)" to see exactly how and why you don't need rounding.

    • @pathape
      @pathape ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisp9824 you're right about ezra. However, lots of pros do round somewhat. Heimburg is an example of someone who does round. I think it comes down when you plant your plant foot, hips start opening before the elbow and shoulder come through (lag). A lot problems I see with people, is they open their hips and their elbow/ shoulder come through at the same time. The point I'm trying to make is reducing rounding in itself is not going help you more generate power. Also, a whippy arm is must for big distance. The whippy your arm is the better the timing will be. Old school throwers rounded a lot and generated a lot of power. They would basically would walk up backwards.

  • @KMbird

    The 1 thing that completely changed my throws was when I realized how relaxed your body needs to be when you throw. Loose!!!!! STOP trying to think about it so much it makes your body tense and COMPLETELY ruins your throwing ability. relax your entire body and all it’s levers next time you go to throw and basically let your body become a whip. I’ve been playing for less than 1 year I’m barely an intermediate player but using this 1 simple trick I’m able to get that snap sound on my drives. RELAX! trust me. Let your arm and entire body become a whip and watch how much better you feel next time you throw! Good luck everyone🙂

    With our teepads having some snow shake on them we've been able to see where each of us plant. It's been really eye opening to see this exact feature reflected in who throws a bit further with all other things being somewhat equal. Still something I'm really working on after hearing it from so many (probably Simon most notably) but I really liked this take on it too.

    Great lesson Joel!. When I watch the pros play, I see distinctly the plant foot positioned like you describe. The diagonal step up on the tee(lower right to upper left corner) is also evident. The plant foot angle is really so obvious. The plant foot spins out from that perpendicular(or slightly inward from perpendicular) position to straight out so one can walk through the shot. The plant foot harsh angle position which allows one to open the hips and generate power in the shot, makes all the sense in the world. I guess you can say, it's all about physics. You have a genuine good hearted nature Joel ands may the Disc Golfing Gods reward you....and they will with future tournament wins on the Pro Disc Golf Tour. Thank you again Joel for this most important disc throwing fundamental. Most Sincerely, Bill M., Uncasville, CT(lifelong promoter of disc golf & former PDGA Member #7378)☺

I also second the revasri rec, it's also got a neat feature that if you hold the power button it will try to zero in on an object in the sights, there's a little golf flag icon that will shake when it locks on to the object thats been pinged by the laser the most. plus it reads in feet! I got one for christmas from my mom who has no idea about disc golf but wanted to buy the best one she could find and did a ton of research to get a great gift.

    Love this video. One of my big frustrations with people who try to teach me how to throw (I know they mean well and are trying to help) is that there seems to be this secret disc gold language that highlights symptoms and not causes. I get told I'm reaching back too far, but I don't get told that I need to try and not overcurl my shoulder. I get told that I'm throwing nose up, but don't get told that it's because I'm reaching back to high and "dipping". You have a mindset that allows you to pull out what is relevant and helpful here, and it's awesome. Gonna work on this tonight.

    I'm way too excited about getting out and trying this. I've been playing for years... everyone says open the hips but never how to do it or why lol. Thanks man. Saving the video, liking and subscribing.

    I've been trying to work on my foot positioning, but this really helped to show me how wide my window needs to be.
