You nailed the real advantage of Gannon's tip being a nose-down flight. I learned it from watching Ricky, and then it was reinforced by Gannon's video. You presented it well. Thanks.

Yup! I first noticed this with Ricky and worked it into my drives this year. No idea why it worked, it felt odd and almost like it would force the disc to turnover....but nope, the disc flies true and it got me to where I'm finally breaking 300ft consistently.

THIS was the best information I’ve gotten over a year watching videos of disc golf. Because I battle with astrocytoma, a terminal brain, cancer, I have to be careful from getting lightheaded, or dizzy, so I throw without the walk up. Just stand still. Before this video, I was throwing my Turses(5) about 210 feet. Now, I’m throwing it close to 300 feet and also throwing all my throws much more accurate. Great video!

That's awesome, almost a 33% increase in throwing distance. I'd be ecstatic to see those types of gains on my throws. I've been binge watching disc golf instructionals for a while now. Still waiting on that one video that "clicks". I've been playing for a while now and I still throw pretty much the same distance as when I first started......BUT......I have gotten so much more consistent with my midrange/approach shots by cleaning up my form and using discs that fit my throwing style better rather than me just mimicking what the top pros throw. Stay strong brother, God bless you 🙏

I had to come back to comment. I was totally doing this wrong. I have been struggling with nose up throws and elbow pain. I had been setting my Hyzer throws on a hyzer angle in the reach back as 1 million videos say to do. I tried this tip today and yesterday and wow it worked. I was getting predictable nose angles and zero elbow pain. Thanks dude. I don't know if this is good advice for a beginner, but it was just what I needed to hear.

I came back to say that this is the best single tip I've found so far. Went out to the field yesterday and tried this out. Holy shit, it was the quickest improvement I've seen yet! My realese was much cleaner, got higher disc speed both horizontally and rotation and I was getting great flights and hitting my previous max distance with less effort. I practice at a big double soccer field, I usually stand on one end and aim for the net of the goal, I was hitting it or getting in the area by 5-15 ft consistently, even got 6 discs in a row in the net. I've never done that before! Thank you! This is now my standard!

This also helps to get flippy discs to well, flip. This same throw can be done for hyzer flips and flex shots or rollers. As long as you change posture a little bit for either shot. Brilliant work.

I've tried this independently from you recently, and Anthony, the other day and I could feel the difference in my elbow drop. The problem I had was the timing on when to turn the disc up to flat, during the swing. When I flipped it up at the wrong time (can't tell if early or late) I would accidentally anhyzer more than I normally do. But this seems like a great correction, if done right. At a minimum Gannon should be credited, if not others. But I think you and Anthony covering it gives it added context and experience, so thank you for that.

that's an interesting take that Gannon has. When I first started throwing 3 years ago ( age 59 ) I had a problem with the nose angle up, I solved it by throwing under a long row of trees with a very low ceiling ( 6-7 feet high ) and still held the disc flat on my reach back and follow thru. i went from throwing 150 ft. to now just reached my max distance ever as of today of 275 feet

When you throw nose up the nose goes higher slowing the velocity of the disc by increasing the amount of moving air the flight plate is exposed to. The disc tends to stall and fade early. You can compensate, but it's better to get the nose angle down and the launch angle up so there is minimal flight plate exposure. Watch Simon Lizotte's newest video with the ditto flight (ep. 2).

Just something I've noticed: sit in your hips a bit so your weight stays over the top of the disc (watch Gannon to see what I mean, look at his torso: its slightly bent over with hips engaged). Standing tall doesn't let you load the hips as much and is also why your shots are anhyzer out of your hand. Keep your arm angle flat like you have it so your shot stays level but just sit a bit in your hips. Hope this helps.

I'm glad you mentioned that the short arm comment was uncalled for. Like why would you say that honestly?

I’ve tried this and it develops a bad habit for me. The disc comes out of my hand too wobbly.

I actually did not like when I tried this weeks back…never in making any form adjustment have I done anything that makes everything into an uncontrollable sky ani, and my elbow hated it and now I’m doing PT for tennis elbow since hahaha.

'the short arm comments' - it's just fissicks bro 😂 the lever catapault length determines much about length of travel.. no way around it. Longer limbs ARE an advantage in disc golf - yes I know there's always exceptions. At least he didn't call you baby t-rex

It is easy to get focused on a position and miss the point of the mechanical advantage. Gannon having very long appendages, that dangling disc might be the most comfortable way for him to work toward the release position. What he is displaying in simple mechanical terms is moving the wrist in the most natural and smooth way. Think of the movement of throwing a dart, it is done at a 45degree angle movement. He is doing the opposite direction of the smooth wrist movement used in throwing a dart. His release movement of wrist has long term benefits of not damaging the complex connections in wrist.

I've noticed Drew Gibson really over extagerates this. His disc is almost perpendicular to the ground when he starts reaching back.

For starters. Get the other discs out of your hand so you can actually use a correct form to practice with.
