Yet for some reason nobody in the 40k universe seems to even consider to change their dietary focus somewhat. If they eat and reflect our sorrow why create such unreasonable amounts?
Two of the most interesting characters in the setting imo. Both highly influential in the setting but not in the "leading massive armies into battle all the time" usual kind of way. The Great Work was awesome. I loved to glimpses in to Cawl's past.
Im upset Brickford didn't expand on the Spider thing Fabulous Williams spider arms have come to life through Warp nonsense and occasionally lay eggs. The thing that bothers Bile the most about this is he has no idea what the legs are mating with to produce eggs
Another layer to all that is that Bile's ship is probably the only place that's really viable to happen. Bile's personal ship is a very old model that'd probably be considered a bit of a clunker compared to newer ones, but all the warp exposure has slowly turned it into an actual sentient creature complete with bits a little more organic than expected. Bile also has a habit of letting his projects wander off and go free range so to speak if he's pleased enough with the results to let it live, leading to entire wings of his shuttle that he hasn't checked for literal centuries that now support colonies of Bile-things and their offspring constantly exposed to warpstuff. So of course there's something in some corner that can mate with his animate robot arms, it's just pinning down exactly what which is the problem.
Minor nitpick, but when Slaanesh was judging Fabius, he wasn't having a panic attack; his body was literally starting to stutter and shut down from the direct attention of a CHAOS GOD on him. He pumped himself full of drugs to keep his hearts from stopping. Would recommend burialgoods for a reading of Slaanesh's judgement of Fabius. Great reading, dude's got talent.
The Fabius dressing up mice in costumes bit is likely a reference to an 1800s mini terrarium from France that featured two preserved frogs in human-esque posture and garb, frozen in a dramatic pose dueling with rapiers. Just goes to show they had memes long before the internet, and Fabius would 100% be the kind of guy to note that
I cannot believe that you didn't even pause at how hard of a line "I think therefore I am, they do not therefore they are not" truly is Not only is it just cool, but it also encapsulates WHY Fabius doesn't believe in the chaos gods - Chaos is just an amalgam of mortal emotions and aren't sapient beings in their own right, demons do not think for themselves and are just driven by the emotion they are made out of. That's why, to Bile, magic and demons are logically explainable phenomena, because the warp is its own "universe" with its own laws (which is explicitly molded by the thoughts of mortals), and as a result, the chaos gods (and demons) are equivalent to, like, gravity and magnetism To him, people are "corrupted by chaos" in the same way an alcoholic is corrupted by alcoholism - it's just a personality flaw (or a dedication to being angry). Which, with how chaos works, is kind of the case anyway
It is like looking at a genie in a lamp. Some people see the power they possess. Other people see the chains that restrict and limit that power. I think bike is wrong. The 40K gods may have core things they can’t stop doing, but they get a lot of latitude about how they do the rest of it.

Bile was in no way panicked when Slaanesh was judging him, the gaze of the god however put such a massive toll on his body that his armor, by itself, decided to pump him full of enhancing drug to keep him ... well ... alive. One of his heart even stops in the middle of it. He is not scared, he is defiant.

Also Bile’s understanding of the gods makes total sense. They’re not only NOT capital G gods, they’re bloated, parasitic, symbiotic warp manifestations. They do offer power, they can affect the world… but they’re only empowered, if not created by mortals. They aren’t gods in the sense that they create or oversee laws of nature from their inception. That’s where it can be tricky to see a distinction, as they command vast power and influence and have “aspects” that they connect with. His view is basically the same as realising that psykers power isn’t magic in the traditional sense. It is a genetic and psychic ability to use another dimensions power and energy to influence our own. There is a science to it and thus it can be de-mystified and de-mythologised, which removes power and grandeur. It’s not that he doesn’t believe that they exist, he recognises they are a force that exists within the universe. He just doesn’t recognise them as an innate power to the universe. They are just a collusion of energy that mirrors mortal thought and feeling and grows fatter for it.
@@collecter343 Totally! I think from a monotheistic kind of perspective it is an entity that created and then presides over and governs the laws of nature/reality/space and time. And in polytheistic religions, gods do tend to control aspects of reality too and their absence still has consequences. I think what makes a god a god/God is that it is intrinsically tied to laws of the universe and their removal is impossible due to needing to be in place to monitor or sustain reality. Warp gods in WH40k in my opinion are entities that fed on aspects that already existed thanks to realspace beings going about their business. There is no evidence those aspects they are tied to wouldn't exist without their existence. Such as without Khorne suddenly we wouldn't have wars/honor etc.

I've always had a hard time looking at characters in fiction calling themselves god because like you said, I see god/gods as something that should be tied to creation and being inherently unknowable because it should be impossible for a person to know everything. Most 'god' characters in fiction are just powerful beings at minimum and avatars of certain ideals at max. As you said, the Chaos gods are just manifestations of certain emotions. These powerful beings are shaped by living beings just as much as we are shaped by them, way more in fact.

It's not that he doesn't believe in them. He doesn't think they're sentient. They are slaves to the emotions they reflect, and do not have any choice but to play out that nature.
Funny thing about Bile: despite constantly talking trash about the Chaos Gods, it's very likely that his work is gestating a nascent Warp entity that his creations call "Pater Mutatis". To explain further, I should probably describe the Aetheric Dominions, the mechanics of the Warp, and the potential fifth Chaos God. When I first got into Warhammer, a big question I had was why the Chaos Star had eight points if there were only four gods. The use of phrase like "the Eightfold Path" only deepened my confusion. Turns out that there are indeed eight component concepts to the Primordial Annihilator. Four of them correspond to the Chaos Gods: Infernal Tempest (Tzeentch), Rapturous Sensation (Slaanesh), Putrid Corruption (Nurgle), and Heedless Slaughter (Khorne). We all know what these are about, but there are four others that reflect other aspects of Chaos, each with an associated entity that people often call "the fifth Chaos God". Encroaching Ruin is what we think of as Chaos Undivided: destruction for the sake of destruction, entropy without end. In Age of Sigmar, the Great Horned Rat fills this dominion, while 40k has the Dark King (who I don't really understand). Malevolent Artifice is easy, because it's just Vashtorr and his evil engineering shenanigans. Ravenous Dissolution is Chaos's propensity for self-defeating actions, and it explains why the Traitor Legions fight each other more than they fight the Imperium. Also cannibalism, to complete the metaphor. The being associated with this domain is the Renegade God, Malice (Schrodinger's Canon says he's real for the sake of this argument). That leaves Formless Distortion, the dominion of mutation, metamorphosis, and inconstancy of form (in my opinion, these rightfully belong in Tzeentch's portfolio, but whatever). At first blush, there are no entities that solely embody these concepts. Then you realize that Fabius Bile is worshipped by Chaos devotees across the galaxy as Pater Mutatis: The Father of Mutants. Granted, worship alone does not a Chaos God make, but consider the sheer scale of Bile's work: a new humanity, seeded across thousands of worlds, all wrought by a single fleshcrafter whose deeds have inspired numberless copycats. He even found a way to cheat death. And guess what Formless Distortion involves? To paraphrase its flavor text from the Burning of Ohmn-Mat: "death is simply one component of eternal metamorphosis." All this from a guy who personally met Slaanesh and refused to acknowledge the existence of the Chaos Gods, even when it nearly killed him.

In fact, I think this was originally introduced through the Horus Heresy. If you're interested in Pater Mutatis specifically, I recommend the Fabius Bile trilogy. There's a number of characters who talk about Bile's relationship with the gods.
The Dark King is, sort of, the Emperor? Like the 'event' that creates him is Emps ascending to the mantle of a chaos god, which he almost does before some Perpetual garbage happens to stop him. Its sort of implied that by being on the Golden Throne, he's permanently forestalling the Dark King and preventing him.
You'll remember i told you Bricky and Dk to read primogenitor, clonelord and manflayer novels. They're a Chaos Space Marine Brutal Kunnin, a Warp based Infinite and the Divine. *The best 40k books ive ever read*
if you haven't yet, read Genefather. Guy Haley does Fabius Bile justice and he plays a very prominent role. The admech + darkmech show up too and Cawl has some incredible moments in there.
There was an older story where a sister of battle was corrupted by Slanesh because she took such joys in killing demons. Slanesh gets in not by people accepting them, they get in because you feed them and if you do it enough, they will consume you whether you want it or not.
I love fabius but you should have explained his unique strain of atheism more. Its actually very interesting, he sees the chaos gods as a non sentient force of the universe, a combination of the collective unconsciousness of the universe. The problem with primarch clones isn't that they're genetically imperfect. It's that they are likely missing the warp entity that makes a primarch special.
Horus' clone didn't have the mojo because OG Horus' actual soul was destroyed by the Emperor, while the Fulgrim clone's mojo was intact because the physical body of a being holds more claim to a soul rather than a warp body, which is essentially what the OG Fulgrim has become.

So Fabius doesn't have clone degradation in the sense of each one getting more and more insane; but a continuous side thread in the trilogy is that each clone seems to be succumbing to the blight a bit quicker than the last. Also, to be fair, we find out the blight isn't entirely biological and some warp shenanigans are to play.

I think the 2ed greater demon he encounters while boarding the Eldar craftworld even comments on how the previous demon cursed Bile because of the extraordinary discomfort his poisoned caused that demon as it was banished.

Yes! Fabius Bile is a personal favorite of mine but his books were my first introduction to the wonderful universe of warhammer so I might be biased. Not really though because he set a pretty high bar. He also attracts some interesting characters like a female in chaos space marine armor or a world eater that uses meditation (and drugs) to control the butchers nails. Also, he was in Flight of the Eisenstein because he was the one that saved Nathaniel Garro after he encountered a Slaneesh war singer

I’m very disappointed Bricky didn’t get into how Fabius made a perfect clone of Fulgrim that is still in the museum of the necrons, possibly one day going to fight and kill Chaos Fulgrim.
40:19 No. The Sons Of Horus actually had a heck of a time killing Clone Horus. Abaddon dealt the fatal killing blow yes but Clone Horus was caught off guard and had been killing something like hundreds of Space Marines trying to kill him before that. He was not taken dowb from 100% Health to 0 in one blow.
Burialgoods did a great reading of that scene with Fabulous Bill being judged. Recommend a listen. He also did one with Talos and another with the Death guard. Very good.
Best opening I can remember. DK pretty much gets the quote, then Bricky calls him "Fabulous", and then none of them remark on the irony of that over the quote used. Pure fucking perfection.

The real story with the Fulgrim clone is a lot more complicated and emotional than you break it down to be. You really should read the trilogy, it makes you sympathize with Fabius. And it has a World Eater who is a professor who likes gardening
There is so much Bile content. They didnt even start into the creations of bile, any of his multiple runs of astartes hunting humans, or his description as gestating a 4th dimensional larva.
I promise this isn't an "Um Acshully" Bricky cause you were half right! The thing the surgeon acolyte was pulling out was a progenoid gland which helps make gene seed. That was a DK almost got the qoute level of close
After this we absolutely need AdRic to do a book club on the Fabius Bile trilogy, some of BL's best writing and a constant reminder of how much of a shame it was that they alienated Josh Reynolds, that man got Fabius and the Emperor's Children like nobody else. So many of the iconic moments explained here (Meeting Trazyn, the Perfect Fulgrim Clone, his time in Commorragh, meeting 'Slaanesh') are portrayed so amazingly. Plus the supporting cast is excellent; from the other member's of Bile's Consortium (Arrian Zorzi, Skalagrim, Saqqura) to the 12th Millennial (Savona my queeeeen) and the New Men. Daemon Fulgrim and the current day 3rd Legion also has an excellent appearance.
Fabulous Bile: From mortal to walking a measure with literal gods without flinching. He knows there's a god in any given room - and studies show, it's him. The way the current plot of 40k is going, Cawl's going to be faced with some dire issue and be like "only one man knows enough about the Emperor's work to be useful to me. Bring me Bile." The Pandora's box recollection was... Not quite right. Hope was the only good thing in the box, not the _worst_ . The dark eldar only rendering him unable to speak of their flesh craft seems more like "okay, that's our fault, we didn't say you can't teach your monkey friends" In his signature encounter with Slaneesh, my reading was that he was pumping drugs and hyperventilating because he kind of... died. Big S stopped like, everything around him and killed all the power. He was literally just spamming meds to keep one of his hearts pumping, etc.
Please do an another episode on Bile. There is so many things left to talk about but maybe it would be better for a bookclub. The trilogie is worth it.
the full excerpt of fabulous bill meeting slaanesh is probably my favorite bit of 40k writing its just the perfect depiction of both slaanesh, but also of biles refusal to acknowledge that they are more then just cosmic phenomena its not that he plugs his ears and goes "lalala" while having a panick attack its that the sheer precense of slaanesh is enough to send the physical body into a meltdown, and all while his entire body is shutting down hes just standing there going "this is a natural phenomena, there is no god above me, the stars have no thoughts or emotion, this is no different from a hurricane or earthquake" hes not closing his eyes and wishing it away, hes staring it in the face and denying it is anything more then a natural disaster and slaanesh is depicted as this insanely beautifull, but terrible, thing, where just the gaze of her alone is enough to cause your body to break down due to how overwhelming she is i love it
One awesome thing you missed is that when his new mini came out at the end of 8th ed he got his own Army List that carried over to 9th. Hope we get a "Creations of Bite" detacment in the next Chaos Codex. Also his "Newmens" were pretty cool, can take out Marines using pack tactics.
I have never been hyped more for an episode before. Fabius Bile, the anti-god chad. I love him ever since I've read the books. He's fighting over the spot of my favorite character with Cawl. "Genefather" were basically just blue balls for me. I cannot wait to be under-re-informed. Bile's face-to-face with Slaanesh is carried out really nicely. We got this dude that's been slipping down the chute of abject madness for ages and ages, and the scene could be just the visualization of a catastrophic mental breakdown happening for him, while he's defiantly clinging to this flimsy internal mantra of 'logic' he keeps telling himself, that a deeper level of him knows he's well past. And that deeper level of himself and his realizations is trying to make itself heard to him.
Not to mention he's actively trying to stop his body from just dying from mass organ failure due to the sheer pressure of being face-to-face with Slaanesh.
I believe the slaanesh marine with the slave twins was in the short story 'The Masters Bid' (idk if that's the exact name), and iirc one of them was blind and one of them was deaf, so they couldn't communicate with each other. I seem to remember the marine getting super pissed off when the twins died, because they died hugging eachother and he hated that they should feel any happiness.
Well, I'm not surprised to learn the Emperor's Children for the most part hailing from what once had been Europe: I'm pretty much certain their history goes stretches back thousands of years to the 21st century's Berlin club scene. Certain I say.
I've spent just under a year gradually listening to all of adeptus ridiculous, gradually catching up, and this is the point I'm finally caught up, just in time for Fabulous Bill. Perfection.
As a Fabius fan I just want to add a couple of notes. When it comes the the original cancer blight, Fabius didn't just steal someones piss and pass the test. As the apothecary in charge he swapped his results with another marines, someone he considered a friend and sent them off to be 'murder cured' in his place. On a more personal conspiricy note; In the HH novels, one of the Raven Guard books details how they used pure gene seed to create new armies of Raven Guard but the batches of marines were infiltrated and corrupted by the Alpha Legion. The Alpha Legion also successfully stole some of the original gene seed but made sure to hand over to Fulgrim only the corrupted stuff. Fulgrim immediately handed the corrupted gene seed off to Fabius. Its unclear how much this corrupted gene seed still messes with Biles experiments but side effects of Biles experiments and what happened to the marines in the Raven Guard batches always seem to match up.
The Fabius Bile books are really really good. Would highly recommend. Went into the omnibus not really caring and thinking he was just a stereotypical mad scientist and came out with him as my favorite character.
37:52 I haven't heard many people even talk about Biles New Man project or whatever its called. They are scary strong. A normal sized female of Biles fought the OG Primaris and even over powered him at times. If Bile finds away to produce them in mass.... EVERYONE is in trouble

The part about fabius being able to talk about his skills from comerrah has been retconned in modern lore, i think. Since the 3rd fabius bile book is about him, his most loyal students, a few slannesh warbands on loan from fulgrim and a chaos titan fighting the coven. Somone reminded me if not since that books ending is a bit funky since one of his gland hounds becomes a "perfect" possessed and his word bearers pet becomes a priest for him.
Yeah, I'm guessing the source that Bricky learned about it from covers older lore from the codexes or something; likely that was the original story of Fabius and the Coven before Josh Reynolds fleshed it out in Manflayer.

Fabulous Williams spider arms have come to life through Warp nonsense and occasionally lay eggs. The thing that bothers Bile the most about this is he has no idea what the legs are mating with to produce eggs
He also didn’t make them able to do that. He finds it really odd but he’s not mad about which is funny.
Also those eggs hatch into smaller demonic versions of his spider arms that scuttle around strip the flesh off of things.
Another layer to all that is that Bile's ship is probably the only place that's really viable to happen. Bile's personal ship is a very old model that'd probably be considered a bit of a clunker compared to newer ones, but all the warp exposure has slowly turned it into an actual sentient creature complete with bits a little more organic than expected. Bile also has a habit of letting his projects wander off and go free range so to speak if he's pleased enough with the results to let it live, leading to entire wings of his shuttle that he hasn't checked for literal centuries that now support colonies of Bile-things and their offspring constantly exposed to warpstuff. So of course there's something in some corner that can mate with his animate robot arms, it's just pinning down exactly what which is the problem.

Minor nitpick, but when Slaanesh was judging Fabius, he wasn't having a panic attack; his body was literally starting to stutter and shut down from the direct attention of a CHAOS GOD on him. He pumped himself full of drugs to keep his hearts from stopping. Would recommend burialgoods for a reading of Slaanesh's judgement of Fabius. Great reading, dude's got talent.
The Fabius dressing up mice in costumes bit is likely a reference to an 1800s mini terrarium from France that featured two preserved frogs in human-esque posture and garb, frozen in a dramatic pose dueling with rapiers. Just goes to show they had memes long before the internet, and Fabius would 100% be the kind of guy to note that

Not only is it just cool, but it also encapsulates WHY Fabius doesn't believe in the chaos gods - Chaos is just an amalgam of mortal emotions and aren't sapient beings in their own right, demons do not think for themselves and are just driven by the emotion they are made out of.
That's why, to Bile, magic and demons are logically explainable phenomena, because the warp is its own "universe" with its own laws (which is explicitly molded by the thoughts of mortals), and as a result, the chaos gods (and demons) are equivalent to, like, gravity and magnetism
To him, people are "corrupted by chaos" in the same way an alcoholic is corrupted by alcoholism - it's just a personality flaw (or a dedication to being angry). Which, with how chaos works, is kind of the case anyway
It is like looking at a genie in a lamp. Some people see the power they possess. Other people see the chains that restrict and limit that power. I think bike is wrong. The 40K gods may have core things they can’t stop doing, but they get a lot of latitude about how they do the rest of it.

Also Bile’s understanding of the gods makes total sense. They’re not only NOT capital G gods, they’re bloated, parasitic, symbiotic warp manifestations. They do offer power, they can affect the world… but they’re only empowered, if not created by mortals. They aren’t gods in the sense that they create or oversee laws of nature from their inception. That’s where it can be tricky to see a distinction, as they command vast power and influence and have “aspects” that they connect with. His view is basically the same as realising that psykers power isn’t magic in the traditional sense. It is a genetic and psychic ability to use another dimensions power and energy to influence our own. There is a science to it and thus it can be de-mystified and de-mythologised, which removes power and grandeur.
It’s not that he doesn’t believe that they exist, he recognises they are a force that exists within the universe. He just doesn’t recognise them as an innate power to the universe. They are just a collusion of energy that mirrors mortal thought and feeling and grows fatter for it.
Really makes one question, what is a god really and what would qualify as a god?

I think from a monotheistic kind of perspective it is an entity that created and then presides over and governs the laws of nature/reality/space and time.
And in polytheistic religions, gods do tend to control aspects of reality too and their absence still has consequences.
I think what makes a god a god/God is that it is intrinsically tied to laws of the universe and their removal is impossible due to needing to be in place to monitor or sustain reality.
Warp gods in WH40k in my opinion are entities that fed on aspects that already existed thanks to realspace beings going about their business. There is no evidence those aspects they are tied to wouldn't exist without their existence. Such as without Khorne suddenly we wouldn't have wars/honor etc.

I've always had a hard time looking at characters in fiction calling themselves god because like you said, I see god/gods as something that should be tied to creation and being inherently unknowable because it should be impossible for a person to know everything.
Most 'god' characters in fiction are just powerful beings at minimum and avatars of certain ideals at max. As you said, the Chaos gods are just manifestations of certain emotions. These powerful beings are shaped by living beings just as much as we are shaped by them, way more in fact.

Funny thing about Bile: despite constantly talking trash about the Chaos Gods, it's very likely that his work is gestating a nascent Warp entity that his creations call "Pater Mutatis". To explain further, I should probably describe the Aetheric Dominions, the mechanics of the Warp, and the potential fifth Chaos God.
When I first got into Warhammer, a big question I had was why the Chaos Star had eight points if there were only four gods. The use of phrase like "the Eightfold Path" only deepened my confusion. Turns out that there are indeed eight component concepts to the Primordial Annihilator. Four of them correspond to the Chaos Gods: Infernal Tempest (Tzeentch), Rapturous Sensation (Slaanesh), Putrid Corruption (Nurgle), and Heedless Slaughter (Khorne). We all know what these are about, but there are four others that reflect other aspects of Chaos, each with an associated entity that people often call "the fifth Chaos God".
Encroaching Ruin is what we think of as Chaos Undivided: destruction for the sake of destruction, entropy without end. In Age of Sigmar, the Great Horned Rat fills this dominion, while 40k has the Dark King (who I don't really understand). Malevolent Artifice is easy, because it's just Vashtorr and his evil engineering shenanigans. Ravenous Dissolution is Chaos's propensity for self-defeating actions, and it explains why the Traitor Legions fight each other more than they fight the Imperium. Also cannibalism, to complete the metaphor. The being associated with this domain is the Renegade God, Malice (Schrodinger's Canon says he's real for the sake of this argument).
That leaves Formless Distortion, the dominion of mutation, metamorphosis, and inconstancy of form (in my opinion, these rightfully belong in Tzeentch's portfolio, but whatever). At first blush, there are no entities that solely embody these concepts. Then you realize that Fabius Bile is worshipped by Chaos devotees across the galaxy as Pater Mutatis: The Father of Mutants. Granted, worship alone does not a Chaos God make, but consider the sheer scale of Bile's work: a new humanity, seeded across thousands of worlds, all wrought by a single fleshcrafter whose deeds have inspired numberless copycats. He even found a way to cheat death. And guess what Formless Distortion involves? To paraphrase its flavor text from the Burning of Ohmn-Mat: "death is simply one component of eternal metamorphosis."
All this from a guy who personally met Slaanesh and refused to acknowledge the existence of the Chaos Gods, even when it nearly killed him.

@@secretname2670 The Burning of Ohmn-Mat is a free Horus Heresy PDF that gives tabletop rules for bound daemons, which is where the flavor text for each dominion came from. In fact, I think this was originally introduced through the Horus Heresy.
If you're interested in Pater Mutatis specifically, I recommend the Fabius Bile trilogy. There's a number of characters who talk about Bile's relationship with the gods.
The Dark King is, sort of, the Emperor? Like the 'event' that creates him is Emps ascending to the mantle of a chaos god, which he almost does before some Perpetual garbage happens to stop him.
Its sort of implied that by being on the Golden Throne, he's permanently forestalling the Dark King and preventing him.
You'll remember i told you Bricky and Dk to read primogenitor, clonelord and manflayer novels. They're a Chaos Space Marine Brutal Kunnin, a Warp based Infinite and the Divine.

if you haven't yet, read Genefather. Guy Haley does Fabius Bile justice and he plays a very prominent role. The admech + darkmech show up too and Cawl has some incredible moments in there.
There was an older story where a sister of battle was corrupted by Slanesh because she took such joys in killing demons. Slanesh gets in not by people accepting them, they get in because you feed them and if you do it enough, they will consume you whether you want it or not.

The problem with primarch clones isn't that they're genetically imperfect. It's that they are likely missing the warp entity that makes a primarch special.
That was the case with the Horus Clone. But the Fulgrim Clone had the special sauce (probably thanks to slaanesh)
Horus' clone didn't have the mojo because OG Horus' actual soul was destroyed by the Emperor, while the Fulgrim clone's mojo was intact because the physical body of a being holds more claim to a soul rather than a warp body, which is essentially what the OG Fulgrim has become.

So Fabius doesn't have clone degradation in the sense of each one getting more and more insane; but a continuous side thread in the trilogy is that each clone seems to be succumbing to the blight a bit quicker than the last.
Also, to be fair, we find out the blight isn't entirely biological and some warp shenanigans are to play.

Yes! Fabius Bile is a personal favorite of mine but his books were my first introduction to the wonderful universe of warhammer so I might be biased. Not really though because he set a pretty high bar. He also attracts some interesting characters like a female in chaos space marine armor or a world eater that uses meditation (and drugs) to control the butchers nails. Also, he was in Flight of the Eisenstein because he was the one that saved Nathaniel Garro after he encountered a Slaneesh war singer

40:19 No. The Sons Of Horus actually had a heck of a time killing Clone Horus. Abaddon dealt the fatal killing blow yes but Clone Horus was caught off guard and had been killing something like hundreds of Space Marines trying to kill him before that. He was not taken dowb from 100% Health to 0 in one blow.
Burialgoods did a great reading of that scene with Fabulous Bill being judged. Recommend a listen. He also did one with Talos and another with the Death guard. Very good.

The real story with the Fulgrim clone is a lot more complicated and emotional than you break it down to be. You really should read the trilogy, it makes you sympathize with Fabius. And it has a World Eater who is a professor who likes gardening

After this we absolutely need AdRic to do a book club on the Fabius Bile trilogy, some of BL's best writing and a constant reminder of how much of a shame it was that they alienated Josh Reynolds, that man got Fabius and the Emperor's Children like nobody else. So many of the iconic moments explained here (Meeting Trazyn, the Perfect Fulgrim Clone, his time in Commorragh, meeting 'Slaanesh') are portrayed so amazingly.
Plus the supporting cast is excellent; from the other member's of Bile's Consortium (Arrian Zorzi, Skalagrim, Saqqura) to the 12th Millennial (Savona my queeeeen) and the New Men. Daemon Fulgrim and the current day 3rd Legion also has an excellent appearance.
Fabulous Bile: From mortal to walking a measure with literal gods without flinching. He knows there's a god in any given room - and studies show, it's him.
The way the current plot of 40k is going, Cawl's going to be faced with some dire issue and be like "only one man knows enough about the Emperor's work to be useful to me. Bring me Bile."

In his signature encounter with Slaneesh, my reading was that he was pumping drugs and hyperventilating because he kind of... died. Big S stopped like, everything around him and killed all the power. He was literally just spamming meds to keep one of his hearts pumping, etc.
Please do an another episode on Bile. There is so many things left to talk about but maybe it would be better for a bookclub. The trilogie is worth it.

its that the sheer precense of slaanesh is enough to send the physical body into a meltdown, and all while his entire body is shutting down hes just standing there going "this is a natural phenomena, there is no god above me, the stars have no thoughts or emotion, this is no different from a hurricane or earthquake"
hes not closing his eyes and wishing it away, hes staring it in the face and denying it is anything more then a natural disaster
and slaanesh is depicted as this insanely beautifull, but terrible, thing, where just the gaze of her alone is enough to cause your body to break down due to how overwhelming she is

Hope we get a "Creations of Bite" detacment in the next Chaos Codex. Also his "Newmens" were pretty cool, can take out Marines using pack tactics.
I have never been hyped more for an episode before. Fabius Bile, the anti-god chad. I love him ever since I've read the books. He's fighting over the spot of my favorite character with Cawl. "Genefather" were basically just blue balls for me. I cannot wait to be under-re-informed. Hail the Primogenitor, hail the Clonelord, hail the Manflayer, hail the Spider, hail the Butcher, hail the flesh god! Ave Pater Mutatis!

Bile's face-to-face with Slaanesh is carried out really nicely. We got this dude that's been slipping down the chute of abject madness for ages and ages, and the scene could be just the visualization of a catastrophic mental breakdown happening for him, while he's defiantly clinging to this flimsy internal mantra of 'logic' he keeps telling himself, that a deeper level of him knows he's well past. And that deeper level of himself and his realizations is trying to make itself heard to him.
Not to mention he's actively trying to stop his body from just dying from mass organ failure due to the sheer pressure of being face-to-face with Slaanesh.
I believe the slaanesh marine with the slave twins was in the short story 'The Masters Bid' (idk if that's the exact name), and iirc one of them was blind and one of them was deaf, so they couldn't communicate with each other.
I seem to remember the marine getting super pissed off when the twins died, because they died hugging eachother and he hated that they should feel any happiness.
He also got his shit rocked by pretty much everyone else there because he was hated so much
Well, I'm not surprised to learn the Emperor's Children for the most part hailing from what once had been Europe: I'm pretty much certain their history goes stretches back thousands of years to the 21st century's Berlin club scene.

I've spent just under a year gradually listening to all of adeptus ridiculous, gradually catching up, and this is the point I'm finally caught up, just in time for Fabulous Bill. Perfection.
As a Fabius fan I just want to add a couple of notes.
When it comes the the original cancer blight, Fabius didn't just steal someones piss and pass the test. As the apothecary in charge he swapped his results with another marines, someone he considered a friend and sent them off to be 'murder cured' in his place.
On a more personal conspiricy note; In the HH novels, one of the Raven Guard books details how they used pure gene seed to create new armies of Raven Guard but the batches of marines were infiltrated and corrupted by the Alpha Legion. The Alpha Legion also successfully stole some of the original gene seed but made sure to hand over to Fulgrim only the corrupted stuff. Fulgrim immediately handed the corrupted gene seed off to Fabius. Its unclear how much this corrupted gene seed still messes with Biles experiments but side effects of Biles experiments and what happened to the marines in the Raven Guard batches always seem to match up.
The Fabius Bile books are really really good. Would highly recommend. Went into the omnibus not really caring and thinking he was just a stereotypical mad scientist and came out with him as my favorite character.

I haven't heard many people even talk about Biles New Man project or whatever its called. They are scary strong. A normal sized female of Biles fought the OG Primaris and even over powered him at times. If Bile finds away to produce them in mass.... EVERYONE is in trouble

I think the marine you were talking about is emmish ayie, he had twins as slaves. One was blind and the other was deaf, by his hands of course. He also cut off their arms so that they could never embrace. I think its from the short story 'The masters bidding'

The part about fabius being able to talk about his skills from comerrah has been retconned in modern lore, i think. Since the 3rd fabius bile book is about him, his most loyal students, a few slannesh warbands on loan from fulgrim and a chaos titan fighting the coven.
Somone reminded me if not since that books ending is a bit funky since one of his gland hounds becomes a "perfect" possessed and his word bearers pet becomes a priest for him.
Yeah, I'm guessing the source that Bricky learned about it from covers older lore from the codexes or something; likely that was the original story of Fabius and the Coven before Josh Reynolds fleshed it out in Manflayer.
I loved the way they described Slaanesh. Beautiful and terrifying and awe inspiring all in one
