In the novel “The Lords of Silence” it actually talks about how the death guard feel about Morty and Typhus. It essentially boils down to the older members are extremely loyal to Mortarion whereas the newer members flock to Typhus
Makes sense. Typhus screwed all of them over for his own ambition. Mortarion, for all is shortcomings and bitterness, never sold out his sons. The whole reason he gave in to Nurgle was to save them. Typhus would never do that.
Mortarion: "I can't be anti-Psyker! I have a Psyker friend! Anyway, now it's time for me to go to the Council of Nikea, where I will attempt to strip rights from Psykers."
The art of DK licking his own nose is probably the single highest-mileage piece of art ever created for this series. Like damn, sometimes the poor guy's racing to the bottom of the IQ chart against a Corpus crewman who thinks a plinx will do anything to the rapidly approaching Tenno.
Bricky: "I didn't expect the Cadian Valley Girl to go from one off meme to poster." Meanwhile, the Venomcrawler and its Fat Fucking Dumper getting a poster the episode immediately after Bricky says that line...
Fun Fact : Mortarian has his father's soul bound to a torture device of his own design which constantly destroys and restores its energy, causing unknowable amounts of despair, pain and more; a symbolic attempt at finishing what Big E stole from him. Only Mortarian has done this so much that it's boring. Now, he basically does it to brood
To touch on DK's question about if members of the Death Guard follow/like Typhus or Mortarian more, that is brought up in the DG book "The Lords of Silence". The main character is a DG captain from the great crusade. Although he does respect Typhus as one of Nurgles favored, he & others from that time do still remember that he was the one who drove them into Nurgles embrace and hates him for that.
Yeah it seems like a lot of the Death Guard respect Morty outside of Typhus. It also seems like Typhus knows he's required to fall in line when he's required to, even if he doesn't respect Morty.
Most of the Chaos Champions are tragic figures in some way: -Ahriman followed in his father's footsteps trying to save his legion only to doom it even further, spending the next 10 thousand years trying to reverse his mistake -Kharn was a really swell guy and decked Erebus that one time before succumbing to the nails -Even Lucius had a lot of insecurities that he had hidden beneath all that bravado -And then there's Typhus. The only tragedy there is that Mortarion trusted him
Ever wonder who would be the Nurgle champ if Perturabo had accepted the recruitment offer? I do wish Garro, Sigismund, Corswain, Perturabo, any of the White Scars or Mortarion took the time to separate his head from the rest of him. Even in Death Guard books in the Plague Wars he's scheming against Mortarion. I'd take Vorx as his replacement any day thanks.
To give credit where it's due, Typhus internalized social ostracization and repression for his entire life until Erebus stepped in. It's just that he's living his best unlife now, long after anyone could have helped him right his ship, and potentially patch things up with Mortarion and his legion.

In talking about the hierarchy of Nurgle it is important to keep in mind that the chaos gods are insane in regards to mortal reality, and that they are complex and intricate in what they value, despair is ultimately what Nurgle is about. The fact that Mortarion lives a life of such absolute despair is a sign that he is vastly more well liked by Nurgle than Typhus. You could sort of see as though the two of them are children, Papa Nurgle gives one of them a lot of stuff and doesn't bother keeping track of their goings on, whereas the other has been set to take over the family business and is held to a high standard by the parent.

@paigewilson5585 you’re crushing on a walking corpse so bloated that he’s BOUND TO HIS ARMOR? And he’s swarming with flies? You know what; I’m curious.
I think its worth mentioning that mortarion turning traitor and falling to chaos are two very different moments with very different reasons. As you mentioned mortarion turned traitor because of the whole tyrant thing but he fell to chaos because he was forced to the decision by typhus to let his legion suffer or turn to chaos. Although its a bit inconsistent Mortarion does seem to care a lot for the death guard who he rallied and spent many years trying to save on barbarus. Edit: Oh and correct me if I'm wrong but I think most of the death guard were willing to suffer but Mortarion "saved" them.
That is a common avenue for many chaos worshippers, first they turn against the Imperium with the best of intentions or at least genuine disgust towards its many flaws, only afterwards they consciously turn to chaos. Often they are manipulated by chaos from the beginning, sometimes chaos only comes into play when they are already traitors. And Mortarion dooming his still loyal sons by commiting treason to save them is just absolutely a chaos thing.
No, his sons wanted him to kill them, and when he tried to do so they would not die. The only thing that they were able to say to him after that were unintelligible gurgles. After the event most of the death guard still respect mortarion, because even after all the suffering the experience, it’s still better than living on barbarus

Edit: I just got to the part where you mentioned Corswain, but my point here stands. Really glad you’ve decided to start talking about the 1st Captains. One character that you should definitely look into is Corswain of the Dark Angels. While he isn’t exactly the 1st Captain of the 1st Legion, he’s basically the equivalent of the other ones (the guy was similar to Sigismund in terms of swordsmanship skill, but also had the level headedness of 1st Captain Ralderon of the Blood Angels). He isn’t as famous as some other characters such as Typhus or Kharn, but he actually does some super important stuff. He’s the one who stabs Konrad Curze in the spine while he was choking the Lion, and he also liberates the Astronomicon during the Siege of Terra (which allows the Ultramarines and remainder of the Dark Angels to arrive, which is what causes Horus to take the gamble that ends with his defeat). Heck, one of the first things he does after arriving on the Sol system is come up with the idea to use the Emperor’s personal flagship as a battering ram to break through the traitor blockade
42:42 Now I can’t unhear Typhus as Fred Flintstone. On a related note, whenever I read Typhus I hear Death from Castlevania voice by Malcom McDowell or the Gilbert Godfrey impression from TTS as his voice. And for Mortarion I hear John Nobles’ Scarecrow from Arkham Knight as his voice.
As far as who's loyal to who- the death guard are one of the most unified chaos factions. Mortarion commands the respect and love of most of the DG, as he freed them from Barbarus. Typhus commands a major semi-splinter faction, and who still submit to Mortarion most of the time as their goals align. Lords of Silence really puts this on display, give it a read
As a note to DK that should be mentioned hopefully by Bricky later on in a future episode. The models of DG do look like some of the art work with various Plague Marines having tentacles and broken armor pieces on them that give them a really cool look to put on the tabletop.
I love the conflict between Typhus and Mortarion. Typhus is more favoured by the Grandfather because he really believes in Nurgle while Morty simply "knows" but doesn't really believe in Nurgle's teachings while still being a Demon Primarch.
I see the Death Guard, in their Cataphracti armour and scythe, and all I can think is... "To hell with Mutant League Hockey, I didn't know until now that I needed a 40k based sports game loosely based around hockey. I pity the guard, but good luck getting past the Lehman Russ in goal."
I think Bricky would really enjoy Phil Tippet's 'Mad God' based on his love of the whole Death Guard aesthetic. Horrific imagery in the movie but probably the most impressive stop motion I've seen
My phone fell off my hand, hit my cat and when I picked it up this video was starting (I already had TH-cam opened, but still). THIS IS THE WILL OF THE OMNISSIAH.
I think you should look at the roboutian heresy. Its a fanfiction that i really liked that is pretty much a mirrored Reality, as in the traitors are loyalists and the other way around. I liked it.
i only just now realized that the death guard were called that because they were a militia to take down the ruling class of necromacers. they were litteraly guarding the dead
When you get to Sevatar episode, I highly recommend reading Aaron Dembski-Bowden's The Long Night. It's a short story, but very insightful for how he was feeling by the end of the Heresy.
I really hope you do an episode on Nathaniel Garro. He technically is a Death Guard character, he kind of is the first Grey knight and began the whole chapter. And did a whole lots of other stuff in the Heresy it could probably fill up an episode. He just is a chad and I really hope he gets one
Oh baby what a good day. Eons of battle paints up Mortarian and here I am learning all about My most recent paint project Typhus. Thanks boys for making this a great day to be a Death Guard main.
Hello, Bricky and DK, I noticed you were curious about an alternative universe where Agan found peace and was free of the butcher's nails. The rebooting heresy may be worth a read.
There's just one thing that will always bother me with Typhus. And that's how he was allowed to become a space marine. He was only half human and theoretically, the Emperor should've been able to detect that he was hiding that he was a psyker. Even if he was Mortarion's friend, how did they look at half xenos psyker and okay elevating him. Were all his organs exactly the same so they couldn't tell? They've never given a proper answer on it, and it bugs me, because he never should've been one.
Nurgle's gifts can take a very long time to kill you ^^ In Dark Imperium, a normal human who was talking to Typhus, got changed into a flesh abomination, then had a Plaguebearer summon through his stomach and talk to Typhus, and only after the Plaguebearer returned to his garden that the man in question finally died XD

World Eaters have Karn the betrayer & Death Guard have Typhus the shit lord
As a note to DK that should be mentioned hopefully by Bricky later on in a future episode. The models of DG do look like some of the art work with various Plague Marines having tentacles and broken armor pieces on them that give them a really cool look to put on the tabletop.
I love the conflict between Typhus and Mortarion. Typhus is more favoured by the Grandfather because he really believes in Nurgle while Morty simply "knows" but doesn't really believe in Nurgle's teachings while still being a Demon Primarch.
Bricky's impression of Erebus sounds like Zach and Chris' Tomar impression
I love seeing crossover for the TH-cam stuff I enjoy. Have a boy
Please do the lords of silence book for the next bookclub! 👌🏻 great death guard book. The voice acting on the audiobook is so good aswell 👍🏻
23:57 That’d be awesome! Mortarion is a Primarch I think always deserves a second read, a lot of his character gets overlooked or under appreciated.
Hell yeah nurgle episode while I'm quarantined with covid let's gooooo
The Plague Father bears his gifts
I see the Death Guard, in their Cataphracti armour and scythe, and all I can think is...
"To hell with Mutant League Hockey, I didn't know until now that I needed a 40k based sports game loosely based around hockey. I pity the guard, but good luck getting past the Lehman Russ in goal."
We do a little rotting
We do a little entropy.
Plaguemaxxing and disease-pilled
Stagnatin' here and there.
I think Bricky would really enjoy Phil Tippet's 'Mad God' based on his love of the whole Death Guard aesthetic. Horrific imagery in the movie but probably the most impressive stop motion I've seen
2:43 lol, lmao, excellent choice of images shy.
I am building a Ghostkeel as I listen to this, I was not expecting the Nurgle underboob. Thanks, I absolutely hate it.
I actually really can't wait to hear about the loyalist first captains, I've never heard anything about them!
Adding a Tzeentch Easter egg into a Nurgle centered episode, classic
I'm still holding out hope for the barber shop quartet Great Unclean One poster.
Going back to old episodes with more fun stuff? Oh boy! I can't wait for Addendum Rediculous
Great name!
His mom was killed by the village people... that visual image had me in stitches and I am worried I am the only one that thought this...
When you get to Sevatar episode, I highly recommend reading Aaron Dembski-Bowden's The Long Night. It's a short story, but very insightful for how he was feeling by the end of the Heresy.
This is sick. I hope we do Shiban Khan (and Torghun Khan). White Scars lore is sick.
13:55 I guess it wasn't fun to stay at the YMCA for Typhon and Mom
Yall should really do Blood Ravens sometime. Some of the shit they had achieved and the mystery of their origins is really interesting
"this world eater virus is moving like an invasive species"
I really hope you do an episode on Nathaniel Garro. He technically is a Death Guard character, he kind of is the first Grey knight and began the whole chapter. And did a whole lots of other stuff in the Heresy it could probably fill up an episode. He just is a chad and I really hope he gets one
Oh baby what a good day. Eons of battle paints up Mortarian and here I am learning all about My most recent paint project Typhus. Thanks boys for making this a great day to be a Death Guard main.
I am at a cafe in Japan studying, and I almost spit out my ice to the phrase "oh they fuckin fuckin"
Thanks y'all and cheers!
Do you smell it? That smell. A kind of smelly smell. A smelly smell that smells... smelly...
Typhus.
Hello, Bricky and DK, I noticed you were curious about an alternative universe where Agan found peace and was free of the butcher's nails. The rebooting heresy may be worth a read.
I'm with DK on wanting to see Angron without the nails in a Whatif. Trekking into head cannon to think about it...
Dornian heresy
Roboutian heresy.
If you like the golden brown artwork. Grimdark Compendium kit bagged the artwork and it's PHENOMENAL
"I'm just a Cadian girl living on a Cadian worl---oh." [singing]
Nurgle's gifts can take a very long time to kill you ^^
In Dark Imperium, a normal human who was talking to Typhus, got changed into a flesh abomination, then had a Plaguebearer summon through his stomach and talk to Typhus, and only after the Plaguebearer returned to his garden that the man in question finally died XD
Videos on the 1st capitains will be great. Eager for the Sigismund one
Before I even watch the video, I wanna mention that this came out as I'm building the Death Guard combat patrol! Massive thanks, and a big recommendation for the book Lords of Silence if you'd like an introspective on how the Death Guard think, great book.
How many times has DK landed on the answer and completely talked himself out of it?
if you are curious about the death guard and nurgle, i recommend the book ”lords of silence”
12:15 Damn, Calus Typhon's terminator armor and color scheme looks fuckin Sweet.
Typhus is the cool stepdad, and Mortarion is the drunk dad that questions we're he went wrong
Absolute perfect timing, I am about to finish painting my typhus mini and needed something to listen to. Big fan of the show please keep up the great work!!!
The great swerve, sounds like a sex move only a space marine can preform.
The whole resistance fighter (double meaning) of the death guard is the whole reason i started collecting them for 30K (40K world eaters because Angron "mini")
Oh cool this is an episode I’ve always wanted to see
Typhus is almopst as much of a chad as Fabius, in terms of outsmarting and outshining their primarch
For some reason and I don't know why but one of Typhus's main beef with Mortarion is that he doesn't like Mortarions obsession to nurgle numerology
hell yeah baby, never let the space marine content dry out
Thanks to TTS Typhus talking like Gilbert Gottfried will always be my headcannon. No chance to convince me otherwise.
Typhus is the disgruntled employee that left an abusive boss and is now coworkers with said boss, working under an even more hostile working environment.
The pustules in my Collin are most pleasantly warmed by this video grandfather loves us
