  • This is a video I made in Downtown Tampa Florida of a CSX freight train named the Street Runner because it shares the road with vehicles on the same road. This train was had to encounter many pedestrians and vehicles including emergency vehicles dashing in front of him causing him to blow his horn well over 100 times down a 1 mile stretch of city streets.
Please check out my other famous video's that made me millions of views.

As a former conductor on AMTRAK I can tell you the train crew was totally within their right AND blowing the horn that many times IS REQUIRED BY LAW. If the crew did not do so and someone was hurt or killed it would be the crews fault. In addition I don't care about the community because I can 99.9% tell you the train was there BEFORE the road and buildings. Simple answer is if you don't like the noise MOVE. It is like someone building a home at the end of a runway and complaining the planes are to loud

That's actually common. This was the position it was in when it left the rail yard near 50th street. Diesel locomotives can safely run facing in either direction as the engineer has windows on the front and a window behind him on "hood type" locomotives which is what this unit is. The engineer's seat can swivel 180 degrees.

Regardless of what was there first it now would make far more sense and be far easier to move the damn tracks. Why are they still there? It seems so inconvenient for everyone involved.

The train shouldn't have to stop like that. The car drivers need to think. That train is 220000000times bigger than me and could probably do some serious damage so I'll be smart and stop

Michale B the train doesn’t have to stop actually. They’re not supposed to wait for cars. In training were taught not to stop the train until after we hit the car. Too much potential cause of more damage from a derailment

They had every right to be there, given that they help save lives, but being stuck at a red light while also being a train (trains don't usually stop unless they need gas or the crew needs food), that usually never stops but for other trains or to onload/offload cargo.

Hi Millennium. Good vid, but one catch ( I think). As far as I remember (1970's Seaboard Coast Line RR days), this train was always called "The Port Tampa Local". Don't recall hearing "Street Runner", which would have been more appropriate back then due to the trackage on Rome Ave which the PT Local also ran on, serving customers on that street. But it's neat that it's still running today and on almost the same time slot (5pm hour) as it did 40 years ago. Sadly one facet that's changed is that, in spite of all of the modern technology people today seem to drive more ignorantly and carelessly then back in those days!

Thank you for that information. You are correct. Today they call all trains that run down the middle of a busy downtown metro area a street runner. The name became so popular that I started using it for viewers to find.

No problema, understandable as Street Runer is very easy to remember. Doubtful that most people outside of the Tampa Bay area have even heard of "Port Tampa".

My father worked for CSX back when it was SCL then even father back up in WVA he worked for Chessie System..we used to have a lot of old signs that would be worth a lot..I still have a ton of old locomotive repair books...mostly 50s/60s GE EMD models..I would love to give to someone who would appreciate them...My uncle even worked for Amtrak then quit to start his own locomotive repair yard in Lakeland...hence more repair manuals..If I only had my dads and uncles knowledge on how to repair those huge beasts...

That was cool. I remember as a boy in early 60s Norfolk and Western ran up 6th Street to their small yard downtown. It's all gone now. The only remnants is the concrete patch where the tracks once were! You can see where all the switches were that went to all the business sidings. The era is fading into history. We also had the CB&Q yard and round house down by the river most gone part of the huge yard is still used by the Burlington Junction Railway.

Ttrucker As someone who is used to seeing trains running seperately in their own channels it does not look at all safe to me but I agree with you about staying out of the way!
Here if a road needs to be built where a railway is, it would be made completely seperately with a bridge or tunnel where they cross. To someone in Britain where trains may sometimes run alongside roads but at a lower level or occasionally higher and with at least a gap and a fence in between, to keep people off the lines, seeing a train running on a road can only mean one thing. ----
THE TRAIN IS OUT OF CONTROL and has come off the its tracks, running all over the place like something out of a disaster movie! Must be a terrible shock if a British visitor hires a car and no-one warns them.

EMT and fire fighters are very complacent on where they park their vehicles. People go out of their way for them so they rarely go out of the way of others (except when driving and evading idiots of course).
When they park, they usually are there to stay until they leave.
