  • Street Running Train In Franklin, Ohio! Train Is In The Center Of The Road! Cars and people are surprised to see a train in an unlikely place. Norfolk Southern is running long hood forward on the Franklin Industrial Spur. The huge locomotive gives plenty of horn while running backwards to deliver freight to the only customer using this street running section of historical track. We see a close up of the nearly hundred year old rail. The giant railroad bridge and street runner section of track in this video is down to its last customer. This line is used as needed. At one time it extended north across Ohio before being abandoned. About a 5 mile section of this line is now owned by Dupps but rarely sees a train and gets used less than a dozen times a year. See my Dupps Railroad video of the red Dupps locomotive pulling its train over a crossing in Germantown, Ohio. The Norfolk Southern local in this video took 2 covered hopper cars to the customer at the end of the spur and then returned light down the street less than an hour later. Per Google Maps the depot is Cincinnati Northern Railroad 1888. At the end of this video you can see the locomotive pulling a car through Carlisle on its way back to Dayton, Ohio.
This video also shows trains at a nearby crossing in Carlisle, Ohio. CSX and NS both come together for a short distance at the railroad crossing in this video. We see trains from both railroads at the crossing. Best frequencies are 160.980 for Norfolk Southern and 160.230 for CSX. Both lines have nearby defect detectors. Chessie and Norfie are at the end of the video and we have a slide show from this video that includes a boxcar without graffiti! Filmed Thursday, May 19, 2022AD

I wanted to say the same thing, the information is very important and reminds of the strength in industry that the US had. We need this strength in all blue collar US industry back.
We need strength in ALL manufacturing the term "Made in the USA" needs to be common place again.

I find street running trains so fascinating. They look so out of place
but so cool at the same time. I’m amazed at your knowledge of trains and tracks. Those old tracks and tie plates built in the
20s & 30s are still getting used today although in light service. Appreciate all you do JT. Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Always appreciate the information you provide. Especially the dates on the rail tracks and other equipment items. 1926 and 1934. Amazing how long they've been in place. Would love to see some old photographs from that time frame because I always wonder what the area looked like way back when. Time to search the internet.

Yes! Alot are for Industrial areas like The Ex-Main, now Branch of CSXT East Tampa,Fl Street Running Trackage, Gadsden,Al Omnitrax's Alabama & Tennessee River Railroad( ATN ) comes from a Stationary Swing Bridge once the long wood trestle joins it, and then starts the Locusts Ave. Downtown Street Trackage through the Middle. Though it does have Crossbucks along the RXR @ each St., The Traffic Lights are Intergratted with The Rails & will adjust to stop automatically while the circuit is activated when the train passes it( or any other permitted to ) like other RXR work. At one time, it was Required to stop prior to each RXR for Safety! Albany,Ga on NS's Columbus-Albany-Macon,Ga Line has a Gated Outline of Crossings( so to speak ). While The Trains pass through the Middle, The whole streets leading to & from it become basically,"Locked"( figure" of speech, beings the RXRs have gates as said ). Lagrange,Ky's a BIG Well-known ONE! The Crews have been known to ACTUALLY STOP Trains, & Ask Drivers to move cars so They can pass by with the trains! Not to say, nothing like anything not saying has happened there or anywhere else. Plus, Another I know of is CSXT & NS Combo Meet Street Trackage in Augusta,Ga. NS comes from a Left side & onto CSXT Line & Into South Carolina after some interesting Street Trackage. It's now done by a Remote Switch via Dispatch & Crew Control in Cabs, but People in The Town would get mad when train crews would have to stop to ajust switch each way either time. There's a Modern Interurban( South Shore for Short )up North that totally runs Street Trackage most of the time. Stops at traffic lights and runs in the middle of the street! However, The City wants to widen the roads, & with that the tracks are detoured off a distance & its Street Running Days are gone( or at least that section ). And, last one I can think of is The CSS ( Can't remember its full name ), has some Street Running Trackage Up North Too. The Santa Cruz Big Trees & Pacific Scenic, is another I recall over in CA on its way to the Boardwalk on a Beach it helps bring people to. Actually has( or did ) a Working Wig-wag Signal! Amtrak California there too has some short brief sections.

Hey JT, those traffic signals at the Jct.73 intersection were showing a GREEN traffic light when the train was approaching the intersection. Should have been RED instead. I guess the lights are not synchronized when a train is in the intersection. They should be to avoid a potential car accident.

It gets pretty close to that one side of the street. I thought that the white Chevy panel van might get tapped by the loco for a second there. It looks like somebody uses the old train depot for some purpose. It looks like it's being kept up nicely. Great video ad always.

It's a dream hobby, pursuing your passion, documenting important living history, presumably while having an independent source of income. .. I notice that there is a crossing gate for the road next to the trestle, but it never went down, nor is there any traffic control, the traffic lights remined green, for instance. I guess it truly is between the residents of Franklin and the driver of the train to sort things out.

Good old Reddy Killowatt. Always liked early orders of WI Electric and I believe Commonwealth Edison rotary coal cars as his figure took up half the cars. On some old electric steeplecab locos RK wore a striped engineers cap @ WEPCO. THe green boxcar is actually a center flo covered hopper that hauls fumigated silicates. Check other comments ftom JT and myself by Thomas Boese regarding that subject
