- This is a video I made of the CSX street runner. A train that runs down the city streets of downtown Tampa Florida. Not many of these exist and the street runner only runs a couple times a week. Sundays is one of those days. It's just an ordinary day of business which this has been going on for 100 years now. Tomorrow's video is another view of the street runner from on top of a parking garage and the echo it gives off the skyscrapers. Stay tuned.

@@Scotford_Maconochie Not always. Though extremely rare, and basically non existent in the US, there are trams, street cars, and light rails that are DMUs or battery pack operated

This video was well done (Thanks Allan). It also shows why we need to ship more cargo by rail - this 9 car train got 36 trucks off the road. (At least for parts of the transport process).
Even though they don't go fast, street runners show how many impatient people there are.

I'm 5 minutes late to my appointment and I risk automatic cancellation due to some dumb ass that wrecked on the highway and caused a 15 minute delay and made me 5 minutes late. Since I don't know how long this oncoming train is and how much time I'll waste waiting for it, I'm gonna gun it. (Speeds across the track) ..... By the gods delight, my doctor agreed to keep the appointment, a minute later and he would have canceled it.
This clinic does not take being late or a no-show very well, they will deny future visits due to the last appointment wasting their time.
NOTE: This is just one of many scenarios that people face daily, So sometimes their impatientness is out of their control.

That is sooooo freaking wild to see a freight train downtown. Compared to the normal size of freight trains, that one was a mini freight train,
Its a local run. only to serve a few downtown customers, and then head back to the yard. That's all
It is pretty big by European standarts. Haha. Well, that is sad. Anyway, it is awesome, there needs to be more cities like that.

Ok. Lets say those wagons are 20 meters long. There are 9 wagons plus locomotive. That is 200 meters lenght. Now, these are American railcars, which means they are able to carry some 50% more then European. So it would be 300 in Europe, which is about the average lenght of EU trains. Given the fact this is a train running thru downtown, carrying load from factories into a sorting yard, it is 1:0 for America.
kof ola True! You are correct that American Trains carry more. I work for the German Railway and I honestly very rarely sah or worked on trains that are so short ...😅
Normally they are between 400 and 740 Meters. So we suck less! 😂

Who needs two tank cars of chlorine in downtown Tampa? I used to not think too much of things like that until I had to get a hazmat cert, seeing a couple of loaded 105 class cars rolling through the middle of town would make me a little nervous. I guess the silver lining to a release would be all of the nicely bleached concrete.
I was born and raised in Tampa, and I have seen the CSX freight train on Polk Street many times! The train can only go 15 miles per hour, and that section of railroad tracks is supposed to be turned into a "quiet zone" very soon (no more blaring train horns)! This means that each street that intersects with Polk Street will have flashing red lights and safety gates!

Santa Cruz, California used to have a street runner that went to the Davenport cement plant, which is now closed and hence the train doesn’t operate anymore. But Oakland does have sort of a street runner Amtrak California train.

Wow, chlorine is tankers through downtown on a dangerous track. We used to have a main freight railroad that went about 8 blocks through the middle of a Main Street downtown in my town. They diverted it in the 60’s or 70’s though

I have to drive only 20 to 30 minutes to reach tampa (riverview) by the enter 250 of the I-75, exit to the 261, West I-4 to tampa, and keep going to the end of the I-4 (8exits) and leave on the 45A of the junction to the I-275. My father (i'm 12) parks his car in the parking on the right side of the train (on the left side is the children's museum). (when the train already passed, I mean, rear view.) And then we go to the sail by the beautiful riverwalk (if only the water was as beautiful as the walk...). I know this place like if I've been here for years...
