So youre watching a movie about a hedgehog that travels at the speed of sound and you're worrying about realism?
I will give them this, every time Sonic got hit, he dropped his rings.
And, I knew that when he fell he wasn't dead, because he still had at least one ring left on him.
There was a LOT of fan service in this movie, if you didn't play the games, there was a lot of things that would have been missed. They really should have titled this "Sega Fan Service" over Sonic... because let's face it, not many people had a Genesis and played anything but Sonic 2 or 3, and I'll bet most didn't even know about say Golden Axe or Bio Hazard Battle.

So from the people who went to watch the movie, i don't think that many have played the Sonic games, specially since the Sonic fanbase has been dwindling trough the year after Sega's lack of ability to make a good Sonic game for 20+ years and how bad the plot got

The only sin this movie has done that I care about, is lacking the classic music from the games. That would've been so awesome!

It only showed 296 mph because the writers realized that the speed gun can’t show anything over that. In reality he was going around 900-1000 mph. So yeah -1 sin.

I actually liked this movie a lot. Was cheesy and predictable sometimes but it did make me giggle several times. It’s one of those movies where you shut your brain off and just roll with it

It felt like, you know, an ACTUAL movie instead of a cookie cutter plot with an iconic character plastered upon it. Heck, the main characters actually have some believable chemistry between them, and for once the inter-character conflict is legitimate because Sonic wants his friend to do what is obviously best for him and stop him from throwing it away, without having to copy and paste the "oh they would be best buddies if only they didn't have this one big contrived misunderstanding" subplot.
The final bullshit with "the hero summons the power to win the final battle because power of friendship" is definitely a sin, but everything else is just great.

@OriginalDarkMew dude it makes me cringe when I see or hear people say that they "listened" to the fans, they obviously wanted to piss us off on purpose with the old design, and then when sonic fans whined about it they got their laughs and redesigned it, I honestly would've liked it if they kept the old design, because it would've at least made this shit movie hilariously bad, instead of just bad.

I just had a rigorously scientific discussion with my son about Sonic’s varying speed throughout the movie and I think we solved it. The radar gun part was Sonic attempting to hit a specific speed, not his top speed. As we see later, time pretty much stops at Sonic’s true max speed which means he’s traveling close to or at the speed of light. Hell, even physics will back me up here because accelerating mass to the speed of light requires infinite energy and as we know, just one of Sonic’s quills contains unlimited energy. And yes, I’m aware that no one will probably ever read this but I don’t care

I'm glad you brought up the fact that Tails somehow has similar sneakers to Sonic despite them never seeing each other or being in the same world up until that point. That's something that bothered me.
That's really a problem with the source material and not the movie because the movie is trying to be game accurate so if they deviated from this it be more weird

10:50 Ok. So I just did the math. According to sonic lore, he can run at the speed of sound. Which in MPH is 767.2. So even at the speed of sound which is supposedly his top speed, it would still take him an hour at minimum to run from green hills to the pacific and back.
Honestly? I feel this movie was actually really good, especially considering it's a video game movie (and you know how those turn out)
Think about growing up(me from 94 personally) and all the sonic SHIT that has been thrown at you, and compare any of that to this movie....
This movie looks fantastic compared to half the shit with sonics name and likeness attached.
I pretty much had to give up on sonic growing up as soon as I went to join what I thought would be a cool Fandom(well, I just looked into sonic related forums, for the first time, and was exposed to what most other sonic fans are ACTUALLY like) , but unfortunately was a really odd collection of SEVERELY autistic and socially retarded kids(and I'm really not saying that to be a dick, the sonic franchise really is just oddly magnetic to these types of people and it's always baffled me)

Let's appreciate how this movie took pains to diverge from the Typical Paranormal Creature Road Trip formula:
1-Human protagonist is living their life normally, either happily or with some marital/family problem that will be coincidetally fixed by the end of the movie
2-Paranormal creature appears in their life, proceeds to cause them misery, the human gets blamed for the mayhem they cause, sometimes try and fail to prove the creature's existance
3-Contrivance leads human and creature to escape from the villain, human constantly whines about getting roped into it
4-Human and creature start to contrivedly bond with one another
5-The bond is soured by a contrived misunderstanding, most often a conversation where one of the two eavesdrops only the part that incriminates the other
6-They break up just as villain is about to strike, occasionally the truth about the creature gets out and the human is ostracized by the community or suspected to be crazy when he fails or refuses to show evidence of its existance
7-When villain attacks, they decide their friendship is more important and they take down the bad guys together
8-Status quo is restored except the creature now either lives with the human or has taught them a lesson that will improve their life
In this movie instead:
1-Human protagonist is well off but is about to give up a relatively happy life to have his big break, he's conflicted about it but has his reasons to believe it's for the best
2-The paranormal creature keeps annoyance to a minimum and genuinely attempts to be cooperate, mostly because he already knows and respects Tom.
3-They both end up on the run, but human had the choice to turn the creature over to the government all along, so he cares enough to act that way from the get go.
4-They bond over meaningful stuff, such as Sonic discovering the value of freedom and making the most of life and Tom reconsidering his choices as he sees how much they mean to Sonic.
5-They have relatable conflict from Sonic genuinely believing Tom is giving up what makes him truly happy and loved and trying to make him realize that
6-They still work together, and for once not everyone treats Tom like a lunatic os berates him for bringing Sonic with him and they actually try to help.
7-Sonic ensures his friends are safe before battling the villain. Power of friendship bullshit still happens. Nobody's perfect.
8-Well yeah, status quo is kinda restored and Sonic comes to live with Tom. Still, it can be forgiven.
It's an amazing movie. Cinema Sins does this for entertainment but people in the comments really take this seriously.
I'd like to point out that the way his car is parked at the start of the movie is not a sin. Actually that makes this movie the only movie where a police car is parked realistically the way they're suppose to. Being totally hidden behind the sign is called a speed trap and it's illegal. Any speeding ticket caught that way would be dismissed in court, if you could prove the police car wasn't visible, because the police legally aren't supposed to even do that.
Source: My grandpa is a retired police officer who frequently sins movies for the cop car being totally hidden behind a road sign cliche.
Also, Sonic was running way faster in that scene but police radars don't read that fast, they cap.
Oh funny fact about the US!
Cuz speed traps are so fu***** LEGAL here in Germany ... the policemen are even allowed to use an ordinary unsuspicious car to lure the drivers into a false sense of security.
Thr police officers doesn't even have to be cautious of the caught and pissed-off drivers, cuz normal citizens aren't allowed to carry weapons here ( to get a gun license you'd have to make a psychological suitability test and other obstacles like a logical reason why you need a gun, etc ).
In fact ... speeding tickets are an extra income source for the town.

@@Gaia_Seraphina Actually, the use of unmarked police cars varies state by state in the United States, and only a limited number of states has laws that make them impractical (or completely not allowed) for speed traps and such. Most states allow them in some capacity, and in recent years many departments have made an effort to add cars that are not so obvious as unmarked cars.

I believe they referenced that name in Sonic Boom at one point. However, he's still technically called Robotnik anyway, as they just merged the American and Japanese names to give us Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
Im late but it was probably in Sonic Generations when Classic Tails referred to Classic Eggman as Dr Robotnik.

So this is actually hilarious....If u listen closely. With the instruments in the background, when all the SEGA franchises are shown and right when the logo for SEGA pops up, it mimics “SEGAAAA”. It’s hard to notice at first but it’s definitely that. It’s like the instrumental version of the jingle.

Tails was originally supposed to have a bigger role in this movie. One draft included Tails being a friend of Sonic from the beginning of the movie and another draft had Tails as one of the main characters. But the writers on the first movie wanted the storyline to be about Sonic’s loneliness on earth. But I’m glad they snuck Tails in the mid-credits scene.

Hate to be that guy, but you wouldn't think alien simply because intelligent life in the universe from a different a different planet probably wouldn't look anything like us at all. We have this concept that aliens will look rather humanoid and have two legs, and two arms. Quite frankly, if we do meet intelligent aliens, they are more likely to have a different form, perhaps more as a blob or maybe a body with limbs but no head. My point is, aliens will not follow the human template of appearance, and they dure as hell won't speak English.

The sudden waking up makes sense though. I remember when playing the games sonic would loose almost all of his rings and it would take him a while to get back up (this would cost you time points) it would usually happen if I would mess up during a speed run. This movie was actually really good and I think the only ones who can truly enjoy it are the og Sega Sonic fans (which is who it was made for in the first place). Sonic’s powers are heavily tied to his emotions considering that’s how he unlocks the chaos emeralds the very first time.
Most of the stuff that CinemaSins was pointing out would be no brainers to actual Sonic fans (the games, shows and especially the comics). It’s not really made to be a great movie, and it does it’s job in introducing new comers to Sonic! 😊

But I Feel like that this film would've been SO MUCH better with more sonic-related settings if it hadn't been for the film's budget and the major Sonic redesign. But from what we saw in November '19, I'd say it was MORE than worth it
I can safely say this. Super Mario Bros did a better job. Sonic the Hedgehog is heavily overrated for the publicity stunt created from correcting the CGI from the trailer. The film is mediocre at best, given there was so much more that could have been done. The story is crap.

Nah, there probably isn't. I'm sure they had some concept art, but I doubt they even finalized the design, let alone did anything past that point like modeling or rendering. We don't even know if they originally planned to include the scene with Tails, it could have easily been something they added after they decided to change Sonic's design. Even if he was originally planned, Tails would have been at the bottom of the priority list and the last thing they worked on. Most likely they would have still been working on the design during the production, and since they didn't get very far with the intial concept (we only ever got one early trailer, which would have been all the footage rendered up to that point, before instantaneous backlash) chances are they never actually came up with a finalized look for him in the original style.

Once again, a fair assessment. That said, I specifically went to see this movie in theaters because of the effort they went into to redesign Sonic after the HORRID first attempt
Jim Carey is an absolute perfect cast for robotnik. Like my god he killed it and was funny as hell. He was my main reason I loved the movie. He does such a good job playing the “eccentric genius” role that robotnik is.
