The funny thing is it wasn't even IMPLIED the Echidnas were doing evil with the Emerald; the Owls just thought they were too powerful and decided to massacre their entire race.

Technically the owls only took the master emerald. Never massacared. The echidnas started it and then the owls had to fight back
Not saying it comes out morally clean but to be fair you probably wouldn't wanna fight off some of your enemies for The Ultimate Power Thing and leave the rest to constantly be after it just so they can Ultimate Power the shit out of you once they eventually get it.
do you not remember the beginning of the first movie where it explains that the owls and echidnas were enemies? no? didn't think so. And if you had ever read any of the comics you would know that the only reason they created the Master Emerald in the fist place was to kill the owl's.
So basically the owls were the first assholes to start the war with the echidnas.
The whole wedding scene was so un-needed but it was fun as hell when Rachel just goes nuts on everyone

Exactly. This movie in particular has Parts in it that feel like they are ripped directly from the video games and that's what people want from a video game movie. Less adaptation more direct homage. Otherwise the only thing it shares with its source material is the name.
Not actively hating the source material, like several writers for the Witcher series, doesn't hurt either.
And then we have the people behind "Halo," who....do not.
Well…I understand fan service, but you can also see when things are treated with a certain amount of care. I don’t play games, but I love arcane. Stand alone, it’s a spectacular premise, you see characters develop, plot unfolds beautifully without it feeling forced or unnatural. I can’t compare it to the game, but I think to make game movies work, you need a solid premise/plot that ties naturally into the existing lore or rules of the game. So you pay proper fan service while still maintaining story elements that makes a good movie. Fan service is fine, but game movies don’t understand the delicate balance of homage and good plots, one gets sacrificed most times. Either the series is good but it seriously messes up the existing rules and lore of the game, or pays homage but you are left with scenes of fan service with no real plot line. So you always disappoint someone as oppose to meshing them together. My take at least.
21:42 according to my therapist, fight or flight mode comes with a third option. Freeze. So it's actually fight, flight or freeze. Sometimes people go into shock and become incapable of reaction. It's a very real thing that happens.
But I would be hard-pressed to believe everyone goes into freeze mode at the same time. Realistically there would be a mix of fighting, fleeing and freezing.

In my experience, my body always goes with flight or freeze. I'm no fighter.
But, honestly, people knowing that there is another stage to that can be helpful in learning how to handle yourself in traumatic situations when it comes to what to expect from your own body. Because the shock of realizing you're just sitting still instead of running or fighting can cause even more shock and distress leaving you even more debilitated.
What about Fawn? It is when instead of running away or fighting, they instead try to appeal and make the thing attacking them like them
I never believed people when they say I froze in fear until one day it happened to me. I was literally so scared that a monster was behind me that I literally froze and wouldn't move how scared I was and at that moment I realized when people say that you actually do freeze
This movie was amazing. I can't freaking wait for the third one. Were there plot holes, like with the dance fight? Yes. Do I care? No. A movie doesn't have to be perfect to be fun.
I also liked “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”.

This movie was a strong reminder for myself to why I love the franchise and it’s characters.
When handled right, it’s nothing but a fun time. Filled with so much charm and personality. It made me feel like I was 7 years old and playing Sonic Heroes and watching Sonic X on Saturday mornings. Such chill times.

Sonic 2 was awesome! but seeing Jim Carrey reprise the role of Robotnik is what made the movie worth it for me, because once again Jim's performance as the character was just flawless he completely nailed the part!
I also liked “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”.

Knuckles is one of the best parts of the movie. He's just so funny! And Idris Elba is perfect!
This movie actually gave me the thrills people said they had with the first movie... The first movie was just not bad and that was a suprise so we all accepted it as good.. This felt like a sonic movie.. I don't get why Hollywood insist of making these "your favorite video game characters in the real world movies.." just go out like this and the Mario movie.. That's all we ever wanted
It's sadly called "Testing the waters.", Risk adverse way to see if an idea has legs and then if it does well, they will put more in the sequel. Feel the same way. This was the Sonic film I wanted to see with the first one, but again, "testing the waters" and such makes for inoffensive, but not remarkable.

It also probably helped that the bar for expected quality had been beaten down quite low at the time of the first movie, so something safe and solid was fantastic to the majority of the fanbase.
I was actually surprised at how much they went away from Tom and Maddie in the second movie, I was fearing it would be still played more safe with more tired tropes than not.

The Mean Bean coffee shop is called that as a reference to Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine- an old sonic game that's basically a Tetris/Bejewled/etc. clone.
Even if it wasn't supposed to be making that reference, it's very clear that it means mean as in "Wow, that's one mean cup of coffee!", and is clearly not indicative of how the employee will treat you.

The biggest sin is that tails got everyone excited for this movie only for knuckles to completely steal his thunder.
It also didn't help that Tails was unconscious for a good chunk of the movie.

I was baffled in theaters when the Master emerald was just magically put back together by knuckles, after we literally saw the chaos emeralds fly off
There's existing precedent in the Sonic franchise that Knuckles can instantly restore a broken Master Emerald in mere moments without the aid of the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic Adventure 2 comes to mind.
The Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald are 2 separated things, the Master Emerald just acts like a controller that unifies the Chaos Emeralds and prevents them to go wild.
Knuckles as the guardian of the Master Emerald has the ability to restore it or even break it, only Knuckles can do these feats since apparently they come with the job of being the guardian of the emerald.
It’s lazy writing by in incompetent morons that can’t make a good script, what did you expect?

I surprisingly enjoyed the Sonic movies. Maybe it's nostalgia because I grew up with Sonic X. Maybe it's just because I love Knuckles. But my little brother loves the Sonic movies so I've watched them a lot and we play Sonic where he pretends to run super fast and I have to grab him and quote Idirs Elba the entire time.
I grew up with sonic x as well. The theme will never leave my head

CinemaSins trying to logic the illogical is always a good time. 🤣 Once I watched Sonic through the eyes of my inner 5th grader, they were both fun enjoyable movies. I some times forget that movies like this are not meant for a 30 year old to be a critic of. I just had fun watching Jim Carrey having fun and was not disappointed.
The thing is while kids can definitely watch these movies the obvious audience is those 30+ year olds you mention who grew up with Sonic. I mean, that stinger with Shadow the Hedgehog at the end, kids only loosely familiar with Sonic would have mostly been like "oh, cool." Us old timers who remember Sonic Adventure 2? We cheered.

I love this movie so much more than the first one, just because of all the humor and badassery Knuckles and Robotnik bring to it

As for Sonic not using his speed in certain situations where he could have, depending on the situation, he likely can’t.
Excluding the bar dance scene, most of the time Sonic didn’t run was when he was injured in some way, or getting tired.
Keep in mind, by the end of the final battle, he’s been running, fighting, getting punched across rooms, and almost drowning a few times, all within just a few days without much time for a break.
Many times, he was punched by Knuckles and couldn’t run, like when he didn’t run when Sonic and Tails were in the cop car being chased by Knuckles, or when he sat there at Knuckles’ feet while Robotnik was stealing the Master Emerald.
Basically whenever Sonic closes his eyes and grunts, that’s indicating that he’s hurt.
I suppose they could’ve portrayed it better to make that more clear, but I believe that was the intention, Sonic was hurt. Maybe he can still move, but not go his fastest.
Sonic can run fast, but it doesn’t mean he’s invincible or can’t get tired after long periods without rest.
The bar scene has a bit less of an excuse tho.
Actually while I do love and agree with your explanation there I have to disagree with the bar scene not being an excuse.
Here's the thing Sonic is human. Things can happen fast before him before he could literally think about using his running feet to take action.
One complaint that always constantly bugged me that people always complained about with the first movie was how Sonic didn't use his speed at all to getaway from Tom when Tom first fired that dart at him and they wind up having that adventure together.
No one really thinks about how Sonic was reacting when he first encountered Tom. He thought that he was alone and Tom completely caught him off guard and he was freaked out and screamed alongside Tom because he had gotten caught. He didn't even get the chance to think about running because Tom had shot him before he could.
That's what happened with Sonic at the bar scene.
The map got taken and before Sonic could even think about running it kept getting taken by people that even he knew that the map was no longer in reach and the only way that he could get it back was through the dance fight.
Sonic can even be awfully scared at times that he may not be able to think straight which was why he didn't use his powers to get out of the hands of the people throwing him in that fire as well.
Also a lot of people were holding onto him so it may make it hard for him to fully well concentrate and use his powers at all especially since he is so scared but still fear or not it's hard to do anything when being held upwards by a whole bunch of people or in the arms of a whole bunch of people.
It makes a whole lot of sense, don't you think?
@@andreasmeelie1889 Considering how long the bar scene played out and the fact that he thought to connect his phone to the speaker, I'm sure he had enough time to think about using his speed to just rush up, grab the map, and run, but something many people don't know and is never mentioned is that one of Sonic's hobbies is _breakdancing._ Being the cocky hedgehog he is, he was more than likely confident enough in his breakdancing skills to decide he didn't need to and opted to show them off instead.
He probably wanted a peaceful solution.

This movie was even better than the first one. It even grossed almost twice as much as the first movie in the box office due to how authentic it felt! As a Sonic Fan, this is the best video game movie i've ever seen and one of my favorites from this year in Cinema.

A lot of these sins wouldn't have been in this video had Jeremy's knowledge of the games not been so hit-or-miss. I yelled _seriously, play the damn games_ about five times throughout this video.
They don't read the source material.
But there WERE quite a few sins here that weren't actually sins at all and easily explainable.
Green Hills is fairly aware of who Sonic is because of the first movie. In fact some of the rest of the world probably know him as well as a not great super hero So no he doesn't live a secret life in his home town.
Sonic can't pretend to be sick in bed because he's living his double life.
Sonic isn't necessarily afraid of water, he just can't swim, so him becoming a motorboat isn't a problem because he has the boat to hold on to.
Tails isn't afraid of falling off a cliff, he's worried for Sonic
Sonic actually mentions in the movie that he probably shouldn't be trusting Tails but Tails is the one that rescued him
Also alien animals watching each other in the bath isn't weird to Tails because he's an alien animal.
And lastly, the reason why the humans trust Tails is because Sonic was concerned about him after they went through the portal.
But he knew about Shadow somehow

I just went back and looked up the scene with Sonic and Tails going through the portal and Sonic's line is literally

So the sin about the humans automatically trusting Tails is absurd. Sonic calls him his friend in front of everyone.

Honestly don't remember much from the movie.
But Eggman Unified and turned the Chaos Energy from the Master Emerald into power.
Chaos Energy has two forms, Negative and Positive. One of each is formed when either Negative or Positive Emotion is emitted from the user.
Eggman had conjured up a lot of Negative Emotions and that made him be able to absorb and use the Master Emerald.
Sonic was stressed and didn't know what to do, so he wasn't able to fuse himself with the Emeralds until he cleared his mind of doubts and allowed Positive Emotions to be created, thus allowing Sonic to unite with the Emeralds.
"Chaos is power, enriched by the heart, the controller is the one who unifies the chaos."
I did like the subtle references to Tikal's words, even if they changed the lore. The only other time I know of where the seven chaos emeralds actually *created* the Master Emerald is in the Archie comics, but that was back when they were based on the games and AoStH and SatAM rather than the games.
This movie was funny and full of Action,Jim Carrey was absolutely awesome here

I saw this a week after it came out and immediately loved it even more than the first one. More ambitious and fun than the first while still staying grounded and adding more Sonic lore characters. Idris Elba was absolutely perfect for the voice of Knuckles and Jim Carrey once again was a blast to watch as Eggman. These films are amazing at respecting the video game franchise and enjoyable and fun for even non Sonic fans. I’m so excited to see Shadow in Sonic 3!

@@gamewiz720 Thanks. With how hit or miss Jeremy's knowledge of the games is, I'm surprised he knew Shadow the Hedgehog. He also didn't understand that what the Chaos Emeralds did with Sonic in the movie is how they work in the games. At least half the 3D Sonic games end with a Super Sonic based final boss where you have to collect all the emeralds to beat the game; Generations with the Time Eater for example.

It's weird how - out of all the characters in the movie - only Tails has his video game VA voicing him.
I was legitimately shocked when this movie didn't take the opportunity to make a Magneto joke about the power Robotnik ends up with, especially since James Marsden (Cyclops) plays Tom in this movie. Like, Tom couldn't have said something like, "Wow, dejavu," when Robotnik started telepathically controlling metal?
There's 2 things you've missed to mention like 1: How did the bombs activate on their own when Sonic said "Nobody's gonna get hurt." And 2: What happened to Ozzy during the whole situation of Eggman and Knuckles breaking into Tom's house?
Im still wondering what happened with ozzy the whole time too-
To be honest I can imagine a scene of Ozzy barking at Eggman just breaking into the house.
As unpleasant as it can be, I do find it somewhat fascinating how kid’s movies often (though not always) have remarkably outdated references that even some of the parents might miss. It provides a unique kind of time capsule as you go back through the years of kid’s movies, almost always referencing about 5-7 years earlier.
I was never a massive fan of Tails in the games, but I completely loved that li’l guy in this movie. I can’t wait to see the hijinks Sonic and he (and Knuckles) get into in the next movie, although I am very disappointed that Jim Carrey won’t be coming back as Dr. Robotnik. That could massively hurt it and the future sequels, so hopefully they find a suitable replacement for Jim Carrey/Dr. Robotnik… if that even exists.

Whats funny to me is that CinemaSins clearly knows the Sonic Universe quite well. The "I dont know whats going on!" part with the Master Emerald, as far as I understand, is that the Master Emerald, pretty early in the Sonic Story, gets destroyed and shattered into the Chaos Emeralds, which all combined form the Master Emerald.
However, in Sonic Adventures it looked like the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald are two different things, same for some of the games, so yeah, I have no clue whats going on either.
As far ad not knowing things, it’s intentional to get engagement / comments.
As far as the chaos and master emeralds being separate, they’re transitioning to Adventure from Classic in the next film.
At the end when shadow opens his eyes its very lucky that it happened the exact time that people found his coordinates

The best dungeon trap for the room at 19:49 are zombie birds that attack anyone who dares to fly and a burning beam that attacks anyone who dares to attack zombies, including the attempt to fly at jet speed past them... also also (same way said by Epic voice guy) .. They should have obstacles like blocks that appear in the sky powered by the gem to injure or obstruct fast flying creatures. Fun fact Tails can fly over the same place with sheer force of will alone while holding sonic XD
