Got a brushed for my boys 4th birthday and it's the best thing he's ever had - he's got the hang of it at top speed and loves it and he really gives it a bashing!!
The Brushed FTX Tracer was a great little truck but this is something else. I was lucky enough to see these when they first came out and I was helping out at Rochester RC. Fantastic upgrade and they are pretty much bullet proof. Rochester RC have just got a bigger place too so loads of stock and brilliant, friendly staff who are always so helpful.
These are such brilliant little trucks. My son is still running his HBX16889, and is now on his 3rd shell. I upgraded the shocks, at the same time as I bought the truck, and they were wrapped up in the same package for him for Christmas a couple of years ago. He's still bashing the hell out of it, and apart from the shells, nothing else has broken. There are clear options out there, if you want to paint your own she'll, but I really like that yellow shell. Nice review mate. 😎👍🏻
totally agree with this review, it's a fantastic car purely for the amount of fun it brings. I have bigger, faster and more expensive cars that I can use but whenever I venture out with my son for a bit of a bash we nearly always end up choosing these to take. It takes me back to why I started with RC, to have fun ! Love your vids and please do keep doing the reviews of cheaper as well as expensive, cheers.
I bought the blue one a few weeks ago. It's a little beast. I've already bought a few of the upgrades - metal CVDs for the front, metal cups and m4 nuts for the rear, a metal spur gear and a pinion. I will be adding the shocks very soon and another battery.
Yeah, these are great! I have the orange HBX truggy style one, and it just recently, after two years, broke one of those plastic screws that hold the wheels. Very durable and great fun!
Also imex makes a version and they really are great RC cars. They aren't super fast by brushless standards but they are so good otherwise that the speed doesn't matter at all. I took an imex version to a skatepark and beat on it for an hour and nothing broke. The motor loosened from it's mount but it was literally a 5 minute fix. Great RC cars! You can also run them on a small LOW C 3s lipo.
Agree Ricky my friend! These are awesome and tough and can handle some higher peered upgrades as well. I have the truggy version and love it! Great to see ftx are adding these to their stable! 👊🏼😎 Hope you have a great weekend brother!
Nice wee review dude. I watched this after I ordered one for my kid. As soon as I finished the video, I placed an order for the upgraded shocks from Rochester RC using your code. They will be fitted before its first use. Thanks dude
I have the blue one there qwiq fast to 2s and 3s and there fun 👍you can all so plug in a different set of lights underneath where the black part of the lights join 🤘first thing I did upgrade the shocks 👊
Excellent for a child but I think the team associated reflex models are a great cheap starter rc for an older kid or adult. Do an MT reflex now aswell.
Would you go for the FTX Tracer as a beginners car or for slightly more would you reccomend the HBX 2996A? I've been watching your videos but as someone who doesn't know too much about the RC scene its all going into one. Any advice welcome
@@beyondRC Thank you! I'm after something that will last, and that I'll probably look after a bit better than a lot of people do as I wouldn't want to smash it haha. One last thing I'd really like to ask, I've been doing so much comparing these last few days, and I think the 2996 is possibly a slightly better choice for me, but I've come across another truck called the Team Associated MT10 v2 and it has a centre diff like the 2996 and looks pretty similar, also a 1:10 scale but I cannot find any comparisons at all between the 2996 and the MT 10. Is that a truck your familiar with and are they similar or are they nothing alike as id have thought there would have been at least 1 video about the two.
@@aidaningham7484 the mt10 is great if budget allows it will be way better than the 2996 both build quality and performance. I have mt10 videos on my channel 👍
@@beyondRC I've just watched your video with the MT10, it does look more substantial, I'm currently trying to learn the technicalities on the batteries as some retailers are selling it with a lipo 2S and charger, but I don't believe the basic chargers have a storage mode and some people seem to say this is quite important. I'm slowly learning so thank you!
Been a while since commenting, but didn't stop watching 👍🏻 Great video, this little thing deserves all the praise it can get. It's just so damn tough and fun. And the size makes is easy to take with you, without feeling so small that it's not fun.
I bought two haiboxing trucks. The first one stripped the gears after about 3 battery packs just playing around in the back yard. The second one is for my son haven’t even taken out of the box yet. Hoping it last longer than the first one but don’t have much hope for these trucks
@@beyondRC I know I saw a ton of great reviews maybe I just had bad luck. I’m hoping for the best with the one I bought for my son I’m sure he will enjoy it! 🤞🏻
I feel the same way about friction shocks. Theres a little place in hell for whoever decides that friction shocks should be put on an rc to maximise profits(probably a bit harsh 😂). Whats the saving for deciding to put plastic friction shocks on over plastic oil flled , pence . They can still sell the metal upgrade, people will still buy them. But for pennies they could supply a better car out the box. Whats it cost ftx for the friction shock £1 each when it could cost £1.25 for plastic oil filled and 10p to put some some oil in . Thats virtually nothing in the cost of the production build.
@@beyondRC I think if the shocks where plastic oil filled as standard people would still buy the aluminium upgrades after a few weeks anyway but at least in the meantime the car would still be better out the box an more enjoyable, more likely to get hooked on the hobby and be willing to spend more money.
thinking the associated mt14 might be a better bet when it comes out as you get metal diffs and drive train, oil shocks, center diff , separarte esc and receiver and its a bit bigger and faster for about £90 more as this will cost around £150 to bring it upto the level of the hbx 16889a pro?
@@beyondRC that would be good to see Ricky on a different note is there any chance you can get the yikong df7 as it looks like a great competitor to the the UDR and super baja ray 2.0 and Im surprised FTX haven ot looked at it for the Uk market also the HG crawlers look fantastic value and feature packed would be great to see some of the UK youtubers give some of these cars some coverage
I love the car! I would like to buy 1 or a redcat volcan 16, I am very interested in knowing how many game cycles the stock Esc 2-1 will last without burning out... does it still have the same original electronics working in 2024? greetings friend! The car is economical but its price makes me doubt a little about the duration of the stock esc and servo.... :) I have hardly seen videos that talk about this car after 1 year of use, usually everyone focuses on talking about the car fresh out of the box
if you live in the US , you can get the Eachine FLYHAL FC600 for around 100 bucks with 2 batteries. Same as HBX 16889 PRO , ( made by Hbx for Eachine ) but nice Truggy version , with a slighlty different kv motor ( 3000kv instead of 3800kv = less top speed but still enough in my opinion) 😉
I've got the Kanyon Mountain Rescue truck which I'm very impressed with. I'm really tempted by the Tracer too. I've just got to pick a time when there's not so many mountain bikers around.😊
of course it is.. the pro is not available by FTX here in the uk only the normal brushless. HBX 16889A Pro brushless is the top spec one but of course a wait from china will be required (Which some people dislike). Cheers
I have reviewed both and whilst the wltoys is a great little buggy spares availability is nowhere near as good as the HBX making the HBX a much better option IMO.. D’oh!
@@gimpman1357 seriously? Yeah that’s not how it usually works.. what if you need a particular part.. buy a whole new car.. break it again.. then need the same part? Order another one?
