This is awesome, I skipped the math parts because I couldn't understand it. love the summary. As a newbie my goal / practical application is two shotting meta boss (or any kind of boss)
Well, Jimmy, i finally did it. Subscribed. Your knowledge, math ability and willingness not only to test but also share the results just deserves that. I can't tell you how much i appreciate your content... And, more importantly, how you present it... Enough. So maybe my subscription will. Thanks a ton, man, particularly as a basically new player with at or less than 4 or 5 months playtime. My game just gets better and better with everything you post. Im looking forward to seeing your next one on dive and/or torp bombers, and hopefully, I'll be able to catch you streaming sometime. Do you stream on twitch? Cheers, bro, I'll watch like 7 adds so you can get another sandwich ;)
But the real question is, which plane's art do you think is the coolest? I hope they will up the core data points you can farm, as well materials from OpSi. Time-gated resources are a pain for new players. I guess I'll wait on new hard stages.
I crafted the FW 190 and was pondering why they don't intercept plane like Hellcat , and then i stumble into this video , the in-game info could use more works to inform player what item can and can't do .
Yeah I hate how the game doesn't give you enough information sometimes. Other than this example, the game also doesn't tell you the details of the boss you'll be fighting in campaign and event stages, it only shows the boss' chibi. If you're unfamiliar with the chibis then you'll have no idea how to prepare for the boss' armor type until you're actually in it. A lot of information about gear is also hidden in menus, is vague or is not stated at all. We also have to rely on data miners to know the skills of ships before pulling for them. I know this is a waifu collector but it can't be that hard to add a preview button for ships' skills on the gacha banner. Finally, there is no way to see the ships already in the gacha pool so you have to check online sources to find out yourself.
The XF5U Flying Flapjack was developed from the V-173 Flying Pancake… so even though the words mean the same thing, it’s worth being careful with the names because they were separate planes. The Flying Pancake was a very lightweight and low-powered prototype (two 80hp engines) to test the concept of a disc-shaped body. It seemed promising, so they designed a successor with two 1,400hp engines (the same kind used in the C-54) and called it the Flying Flapjack. If jets hadn’t been taking over, it would’ve had a chance at entering production.
The prototype version (V-173) is called the flying pancake. You could continue calling it that if you want, but technically they are two very different planes
Hi, please check the wiki formula for Fighter Anti-Air DPS, it already includes the planes speed. I ran the numbers for the pancake and got the same value as presented in the table.
Yea you're right, that probably means the planes above the pancake could be better for interception, although it's hard to tell if the uptime would favor the pancake. For example, since pancakes fly slower and have lower cooldown, they might deal 30% damage constantly to the planes on the screen, and then your anti air guns can do the other 70%. With something like the FW 190, it might deal 35% damage instead while it's on screen, but when it's down more planes could leak through. Would need actual testing to be sure.
The interception reloads are also included in the formula, so the damage ratio while the planes are onscreen might be even higher, but yes there is more downtime for those other planes so testing would be very beneficial. Personally, I cleared Chapter 15 with the RN CVs in support with 2x +10 Seafire FR's each because I wanted to keep the RN theme and was willing to accept the loss of dpm for it. I also wonder if mixing the planes might also be an option to have more chance of interception planes onscreen at any one time (assuming interception works like that).
very good guide, i recently got into azur lane end game content min-maxing after negleting it for a year; was confused what made flapjack better than tigercat or "pirate squad". maybe a feedback for next guides, hopefully you'll explain how torpedo bombers work, mainly which scenarios their differences actually matters (prob need a separate video about it), i really cant figure out on what criterias do you decide if to run a faster plane or a slower one (i was said it doesnt only depend on synching); or the dps difference betweel the most used ones
I'm still hoping to see a jet plane soon. I know that technically they could or could not change the meta in planes, but it's just so Essex can finally have her jets, hahahahaha, for now she have to make do with Wyverns, hahahaha. Considering Sara used them on Souyz event, I'm smoking a bit of hopium and betting we might see one on EN anniversary, hahahahahaha. Great video buddy, really wish I had this video when I first started AL, took me quite a while back then to understand how planes work in game, even looking a few guides back then was not enough. As a someone that loves naval aviation, I really love the little details in the planes on the game, just wish we have a few more tricks for them, the support fleet in ch 15 is something I would like to see more often in new game content.
@sirbowserfelix9293 furthermore. Planes now aren't used for long-distance travel. More built for fast air support and ground support. Although they have guns equipped, they mainly use missiles to take down targets. So, my best guess they will outperform the ground support planes we have now but won't outperform AA support. Also, most ships are now DDGs or have some missile capabilities and don't really utilize main guns. Carriers are still used today and submarines. It would be interesting if Eagle got the A-10 warthog first as it has ground support and AA capabilities (missiles). Not only is it fast, but does devastating damage to ground enemies and can take out enemy air support. (Though the game doesn't exactly have stationary or in combat Air support. It's mainly just barrages. ) The arbiters or enforcer Carriers have small drones that do stay put for some time and could help knock them out. But I wouldn't be sure what they would do.
i heard that Flapjack speed, thou it's good for AA, is actually bad for Airstrike. Because the lower speed makes it not the best AA baiter and Flapjack makes higher speed DB or TB can't deliver payload due to being shot down prematurely (case in W13/15 or PvP). is it true?
It is unfortunate they dont add the AA gun ranges since most 180-degree angled planes have a shorter range than the 80-degree AA guns that have longer range to concentrate AA damage at the cost of angle. (Which in some cased Concentrated damage is better while in others, a more wider range is better.
also mention that HVAR has burning damage(if by chance), so in longer fights, HVAR+burning damage can deal more damage than a single AP rocket barrage.(AP ammunition can only deal armor break which provides additional damage buff to artillery fire, so if you are using a 3 carrier fleet, that's less useful)
i love your videos but your statement that flapjack is cheaper to craft is wrong for a lot players. The biggest blocker for people who have been playing for less than about 1 year or less than 2 years is the SR Top Secrets which makes The Flapjack considerably more difficult to build than the TigerCat. I can understand why you'd consider Flapjack cheaper given you have over 500 top secrets but it unfortunately doesnt apply for most players. Ive been clearing opsi every month for over 8 months now, and finish every month obtaining about 12k voucher, and i complete every boss, every fortress and beat both arbiters but im always out of SR Top Secrets as I also need them to convert into the UR top secrets for UR gear. I play together with 7 friends of mine and we all have the same identical problem with gear crafting SR military grades and SR Top Secrets. That being said, I did learn what i wantd from yoru video, namely to see a good comparison between Hellcat and Flapjack AA damage. A while back i went and switched to hellcats and 0 regrets so im probably going to stick with them.
The rainbow equipment you can get from gear lab so far are not as useful as flapjack though, and having just one of the 457 and 234 from protocore exchange is enough for a very long time
@@JimmyAL after i watched this video of yours i saw a video where you compared georgia with champy gun and it made sense in context to why you would think flapjacks are cheap. You forgot to mention Shinano-chan, an Elite CV with 9 planes.
These guides are awesome! Jimmy is the king of data driven Azur Lane content.
Yo here we go! Planes are such a clusterfuck, so this is the guide I've been waiting for the most.

Anyone else reads: Flying Pancake instead of Flyin FlapJack? Or is it because I'm Mexican?
The two words are synonymous, so it doesn’t really matter which you use.
@@eMercody Oh thanks. I thought it was another intrinsically made word by the English or Americans. Thanks brotha
