Thats an issue as the viewer, we literally don’t know these people so it kinda ruins when Caz shows to much distress while you immediately forget who the persons name is once theyre done screaming over the phones with how linear the game is and it lacks any replayability. It would’ve been nice to have started the game a day earlier and actually got to know everyone and understand the layout of the rig so the experience of everything being changed is more jarring
@@chaosinsurgency6636 yup, that's a thing that plagues the entire genre. Roy and maybe Finlay are the closest to somewhat developed characters. Brodie doesn't even give an explanation of what happened to Raffs, how and when did he go from place to place so quickly, how did he fail to get to the chopper, how did people go around in groups and etc.
@@chaosinsurgency6636 You need to be babied and have your hand held? YOU are the idiot modern movies cater to and you ruin entertainment. You are Idiocracy.
What's wild is that Rennick realistically exists, especially on rigs. My late grandfather worked on an oil rig in the north sea and he'd always tell me stories about people like Rennick. When the Piper Alpha exploded, a lot of company men refused to cosign on the deaths because it "cost too much".
I think this game is not just a representation of the real world but a metaphor it. Rennick is likely only trying to make a living just as everyone else, though at the expense of others; his job is to increase profits and that mindset might be what made him so bitter. The game itself is a metaphor for capitalism. The oil company exploiting its workers and environment leads to the collapse of the rig itself. The monster will destroy the rig as well as humanity if it isn’t destroyed. That’s why Caz killing the monster was a perfect ending. The lesson of the story is so obvious and clues are mentioned so many times I’m surprised no one has said anything. There’s so much more to the story but that would take an entire essay, so well done.
@@Literally_a_Moth I love how they made Caz so messy in that revelation too. Throughout the game you always had a sense of him trying to "fix" or more accurately run away from the problem and hoping that everything will eventually work out (him crime, his marriage, his job, escaping the rig itself, etc) even when reality tells him otherwise. Finlay telling him to "be brave" was so beautiful as he finally takes a stance to stand his ground and face reality even when it will cost him everything. GOD, what an amazing game!
Ignoring the fact it’s an incredible story, for someone like me, from the west of Scotland, finally hearing a game in my language, my accent, hearing words that only people from my home will know, it’s the first time a game has been truly immersive. I done an offshore safety course many years ago with a view to working on the rigs. This game reminds me so much of that (even though we never got onto the rigs, there were several emergency scenarios set up in the place we trained in and I saw a few similar here) I think, when you’re American or even English, you hear your accent and dialect so often you don’t think about it as much but playing a game, no matter how good, and hearing the sane American accents just tears you out of the immersion the developers are trying to create so this, for me, in my accent, with my dialect and with words in our language that are purely ours, and in an industry that has been a bedrock of our society for so long… It’s just so amazing, so breathtaking
I totally get what you mean. I'm Aussie and it's so rare to feel like a game environment is mine, my world, my people. Usually it's America. Interesting but not personal.
I work in the oil and gas industry, and I can say that this recreation of a drilling rig is astounding. The creators must've actually mapped a rig. I've watched this whole video so far, and I wish I had the time to play it. Your commentary was awesome, sir. Subbed, liked and commented (obviously) for the algo!
I like how whenever your in a different environment, you edit your audio to match that, like you add an echo whenever you're in a large empty space or an effect to make it sound like your speaking or hearing someone speak underwater. It helps me emerce myself into the world. You're a genius and should keep up the fantastic work you do.
@@DragonhatchieYeah it's been years for me as well, but it's certainly not a new concept I don't think. I've never watched Neebs so I'm not familiar with him doing it but again, it's not some editing breakthrough or anything. I actually got the idea to try stuff like this while watching shows and getting a look into how the sound design works. Always wondered about how they get the voices to sound so fitting in the rooms and I leaned about how actors go into the studio to records dubs after filming if the in-field audio is too noisy. And I just thought one day to try it out and I loved the result. And now it's just super fun trying to get the audio to fit every environment. I even tried recording my own convolution reverb impulses to use in my videos but they never turn out great lmao
I love the small touch of using the same effects on your voice that's similar to the player's environments. The underwater muffle, the large reverb in bigger chambers, great detail!
Indeed!! Adding what I can only describe as diagetic accoustics to a commentary voice helps wrap the entire experience of a Let's Play together I still feel Letsplayers are to games what Professional Readers are to books, and the editing that goes with the craft can add such an incredible flourish
I love that they kept the language raw but have translated it in the subtitles. Also, this is a better horror/suspense than 99% of the movies released in the last 10 years
As a Welder/fitter I can appreciate the attention to detail in the steam and hot water systems throughout this game. The flanges have the appropriate amount of bolts per size and I saw a couple clevis hangers as well as blowdown separators piped correctly. I was absolutely blown away by the attention to detail. It really makes you feel like you’re in a functional rig. Props to the designers!
In my opinion, the fact the saddest death wasn't even a death by the creatures is just a nasty stab, Roy died because of his Diabetes, not even the fucking monsters, its like the game forced us to worry about the creatures more and forget that Roy would die if he didn't get his Insulin, out of all the deaths Caz seemed so broken at Roys death specifically, really showed his bond with Roy.
@@kristianstaalby8499 ahahahhaaaa tbh the whole time i was thinking, who the hell doesnt keep their insulin on them in the kitchen. . . it has to be refrigerated I do believe lmao Roy killed himself
One part I loved is how at 16:38 when he gets on the drilling floor, you can see all the drill pipes stacked and loaded on the shute ready to be added to the drill lenth, aswell as all the drilling mud mixers you see on/under the main deck. Lots of detail was put into this to feel authentic.
Honestly the deaths for the characters like Roy and Brodie felt absolutely heartbreaking but the ending part with Caz dying and the note Suze wrote is literally the strongest emotional gut punch after seeing everyone else die in sad and horrific ways in my opinion.
It amazes me how big that lighter was, it's such a small thing you brush off and never even think twice about in the beginning and you realize later on hearing Brodie say "One spark.." and hearing her flick the lighter, and the line "You're a lifesaver" it is amazing
For being such a small and seemingly mundane object, that you literally hand over near the beginning, to then be the key to ending the game, is a masterstroke of story writing
@@zachlowe7103 he could, but they're not anywhere close to shore, as it's a deep sea oil-rig. That's why they have life boats and a chopper, the latter is for transporting people to and from the shore, so it's unlikely you could swim back, especially if you've been through all that Caz has that day.
IGP was wondering why some of the men turned into mobile threats, while others remained stuck to the walls as meat moss. Me, I have to suspect that anger, itself, was a factor: Rennick lived, breathed, and crapped anger in his every line, and both Trots and Addair seem to have been really angry about politics, albeit from different sides of the spectrum. Gibbo got pretty touchy about Trots's activism at breakfast too, more so than their conversation really seemed to warrant. The main exception seems to be Muir, but the way Innes chewed him out for being careless that morning might've ticked him off a lot more than he allowed to show at the time.
@@sharondornhoff7563 Also if everyone became monsters there would be an absolutely impossible amount of things around the ship. This is a good explanation but gameplay definitely plays a factor.
@@Quick15 Naturally gameplay is always the real deciding factor, but I and (I think) IGP were talking about an *in-character* explanation for why only some of the mutated retained mobility.
Aren't they just monsters tho? I would need to know the anatomy of these mobs, but I think that they aren't really "consious" and that's, because the monster either fuses with them which alters their brains and changes their bodies, or changes their bodies and the brain, so their emotions are altered either way. Just a specluation tho.
Im pretty sure that the voices aren't apart of their consciousness its probably used by the host to lure them but i dont know if its true since Gibbo said tell my wife or parents bla bla bla
I'm honestly not sure they know what they're doing. At least when it comes to some of them. Muir is the one who made me think this. He doesn't seem to realize what he is or what he's doing to the other rig workers, wondering why they aren't helping him and instead are running away from him, and telling them not to leave him. I also noticed how all the bodies on the deck with him were placed in a sitting position upright against some surface, as if he put them there like that after killing them. Perhaps showing some sort of care, but he's unaware when it comes to what actually hurt them. Him. I think it might be a little different for each person, and I think it depends on their mentality when infected. Addair and Rennick both seemed a lot more aware than others (With the exception of Gibbo), and they purposefully go after Caz and call him by name. They're the ones who hated Caz the most right before the events, so after becoming whatever it is they are they hold that hatred for him and set out to kill him, knowingly. They retain some memories and personality (though maybe that changes over time, seeing as we only saw what happens shortly after infection). But some don't act as if they understand at all what they're doing. Like Muir and maybe Trots.
Many of the same questions that come to mind when watching The Thing. It's a scenario that causes you to wonder what identity really is, especially when the lines start to blur or shift completely.
I was just chilling, and I randomly decided to click on this video because the title seemed interesting. Trigger every phobia? Sounds cool, why not? Then I realized it was 4 hours, but it's no biggie, I'll watch it over a few days. Then I get fucking punched in the gut with this terrifying and emotional masterpiece? What the fuck? I love this. From the graphics to the voice acting to the story, it's fucking amazing. God, the relationships Caz had with the crew really hurt. To see all of your close friend die and turn into those horrors? I'm gonna go lay down...
I think what really does it for me is, nothing ever happens randomly. Everything fits together and makes sense. It never really feels like you’re getting forced to go somewhere, you’re going there for a reason.
well not really, when he was heading to the drilling room or whatever it's name is at the end, and he fell in the water with the strong currents and by miracle he ended up reaching the room he wanted to.
@@sdfrch that’s just to add drama and make you sit on the edge of your seat. It’s technically forcing you to an area yes, but it’s also adding story and depth
It sounds like Gibbo actually is conscious but just isn't in control of his body because he's saying stuff like: "Im sorry" "I don't know whats happening" "don't leave me" "I didn't want this" and a lot more
Yeah Roper and the one dude standing up, showed that they are consciously aware but they are not in control. Kind of reminds me of The Flood, the person is there mentally but the vessel is compromised.
@@FatalFist though I'm pretty sure Rennek is pure evil. Muir also didn't know why people were running from him because he wasnt aware of his current form. Trots is definitely long gone tho
This game is another kind of psychological horror. Hearing people scream and beg for help while they're forced to hunt you down, on top of those same people being your close friends and coworkers... That's a whole different chill crossing down my spine... At least it's amazing content, both the video and the game.
This game is absolutely perfect. It builds up tension with the creepy visuals of the thing and loud noises and then releases it with a pipe bursting or something breaking only for you to realize that isn’t what your scared of or tense about which in turn builds up more tension, so it just keeps doing that over and over and it makes it so interesting. Also IGPs commentary is perfect, he lets the game play out and doesn’t talk too much and its cool that he edits his voice like he is in the oil rig. Amazing video!
The saddest thing with Roy is... With one of the rooms you ran through, it's his room, and his insulin is there... You can pick it up... and knowing you have his insulin makes the imact of seeing him up there even harder. When I streamed the last hour of tye game yesterday, I actually nearly broke into tears because of that.
I mean lazy writing you cant get it sooner or that roy doesnt actually say the severity of him, not getting it because you kind of just completely forget that he asks you to get it and only reminded closer to the end of the game
@chaosinsurgency6636 he doesn't ask you to get it, he tells you he'll get it himself before the helicopter, I wouldn't say that's lazy writing, I mean looking through the cabins it's pretty understandable that Roy wasn't able to get his insulin, going to the roof to get away from trots in the cabins is completely reasonable
@@chaosinsurgency6636 I missed picking this up in Roy's room because I was in a panic, but I think that's a brilliant piece of writing actually. If I had picked it up, my first thought would be of complete worry that Roy might be gone. It indeed would have made his death even worse because for me, since I didn't pick it up or see it, there was hope that he found it and is okay, just hiding away. Losing that hope is kind of a running theme in this game. So little to hold onto but we kept pushing. Having that little hope become a complete uncertainty just adds to the horror and the intensity of finding Roy again.
And I just realised in Roy's announcement after I meet back up with Finlay and Brodie he mentions the insulin but it's slightly cut off and after reading it it implies he didn't get it...welp I guess when playing and even in editing heard his message as in he's hiding and he's not sure how long he is going to survive LOL
I am from Inverness in Scotland, and I have to say; the slang, the accents, the dialects, the nicknames, everything about the characterization is absolutely on point. It genuinely felt like I was at the pub talking with my dad's pals.
3:39:57 when he said "we never even stood a chance" it hit hard dude like that line alone reminds you that they are literally just humans like in real life and they unfortunately encounter this entity that they have no hope of defeating
@@DeathnoteBB it would be logical to either assume the entire oil supply leaked both into the depths of the ocean where that thing supposedly resided, meaning it also blew it's "roots", or to assume that only the surface level of the monster perished and the thing in the depths is still alive, in which case humanity is very much doomed
So few games, or even media in general, give such a compelling depiction of people that are believably friends and colleagues. The only other media that have given me this feeling tend to be trilogys or multi part stories that give us so much more time with their characters. To make me feel for a characters death that realistically we have only seen for a few minutes on screen is writing skill to an incredible degree.
this was really good but it does feel a bit 'forced,' and not totally real. Not because it's a game, but because the guys are just talking in ways that you would hear them occasionally talk like, but not all at once on a same day.
Can we just take a moment to praise Caz and how much of a fucking badass he is? Bro literally did everything for the others and did it with a cool head, mad respect
That's true. You actually feel the character you're playing as and on top of that everything is so human and believable. At the end when he hesitates, I don't blame him I hear a defeated proud man but still does what has to be done for everyone else even if they will never know. This man's balls are solid tungsten.
I love the clever call back of dialogue with Rennick's character from when Caz is in trouble with his job vs when Caz is getting chased when boss man is infected. "You're in the shit now, Mcleary....." It's one thing to get threats from your boss about losing your job, it's another when your boss is chasing you down as a mutated creature still threatening you about losing your job lol
Also near the end when Caz is being chased by Rennick, Rennick would shout "I told you to get the f*ck out of here, Mcleary!" as if he's telling Caz that if he was just a few minutes earlier and didn't take his time going to Rennick's office, he would've been out of the rig before the whole thing started.
@@buggarteven though Rennick is a total asshole, he’s still human. He gave Caz a personal call to be careful and get to the helipad to leave, he still got impatient likely believing people were dead or infected, he has the tendency for impatience so it’s not surprising he’d leave early, but Rennick even as a mutated monster is asking for help and is scolding Caz for not getting out earlier when he had the chance. He has this energy of a prick who still seriously doesn’t want people’s deaths to result from his actions cause he’s not heartless.
I'm 50 minutes in and the attention to detail in this is incredible. I especially appreciate when you went underwater and started talking and it sounded exactly spot on. Thats just raw talent.
Extra mic reverb when you walk into spaces where sound just bounces off the walls has to be one of the greatest editing gimmicks I’ve ever seen or “heard” I guess lol (I LIKED IT!!!😂)
@@IGP his punctuation was off, but tonally it sounds a lot like a compliment, he's saying he likes how you make your mic "echo" using a reverb filter in places where it would logically echo

It took me a minute to realize it once the game got going, but it waa so well done throughout that he just felt like another character in the story. Completely unnecessary, but totally raises the bar for professional lets plays

@@penumbro838 This was just like the movie "Annihilation" with Natalie Portman. somewhat similar story of a alien thing that mutates the land and organic material around it. it also emits that rainbow glow around the affected area in the movie they call it the "shimmer" and everything that comes near it or stays extended amount of time in it get mutated like the thing or this game haha. I really enjoyed the movie even though it got weird in the end lol. the "monster" has a lot of similarities to the game version.
This game is like a breath of fresh air. I'm scottish myself and we rarely get depiction or representaion in public media that isn't joking about our culture that people see as silly. While this obviously doesn't have the right scenery/setting to teach people about scottish culture, it's so nice to hear actual scottish accents, slang and conversations that isn't done by someone who's got a distant cousin three times removed on their mothers side somewhere in scotland. This game is so well done mechanically and thematically. And the world-building through the environments and time-period is downright masterful. The creators of this game should be immensely proud of themselves. And on behalf scotland, aye mate it's awright. Well in lads ❤️
Not to mention, the voice actors absolutely killed it and sharing that with us all is incredibly. If they hadn't been 11/10 it wouldn't have been near as good. Fantastic. Awesome to hear yall!
Idk much about Scotland and its people, but I'm so glad to see approval from a local. I'll take the characters and lessons to heart now that I know it's realistic.
Hello from clan Bruce kinsman, I get you my granda still says “leccy” for electrics and calls certain PAs a tannoy or tannoy tone so I was pleased to hear it
Finally finished it. You dropping the lighter at the end is symbolic of Caz finally letting go of his hope. The faint flame he'd been carrying this whole time that if he just kept going, he'd find a way off that rig. He's hesitating, he wants to see his wife and kids again. But he realizes that it's too dangerous and lets go.
Its a nice change from characters who just hide and scream the entire game. In reality after going through so much, at some point its not going to be something scary, rather just a problem to get past.
The developer's choice of making the monsters procedurally generated really sells the unpredictable and alien vibe of the enemy creatures. It also just looks smoother. The creatures walking on their tendrils reminds me of the Long Legs from Rain World, or the monster from Carrion.
That moment, at 3:11:15, is a truly horrifying moment if you think about it. The stuff is spreading through the rig, sure, but it looks like it might be containable, reversible even. Fighting to keep the rig afloat and the last few survivors alive. And then… that godd*mn window. Seeing that, your heart just shatters. Whatever this stuff is, it’s not only breaking the rig and the people around it, but the very fabric of reality itself. It’s twisting and corrupting everything it touches, even the very air you breathe. It was at this moment, this ‘blink-and-you-miss-it’ moment, one that if you were in any bigger of a rush you wouldn’t have noticed, that you realize that no one is getting off this rig alive.
I don't know if you guys noticed, but at the very end, we see that the mirrors don't show Caz' reflection. That had so much power and meaning that I almost cried just at that part.
@@eldritchcupcakes3195 I assume that means he is dead? Idk, I have never played the game to know the story or fate of this character. But a ghost probably doesn't cast a reflection.
I'm Scottish and I spent most of my life working at sea. Mostly on vessels, but sometimes on rigs. This video hit me HARD!... ...Especially when the (SPOILERS) dying man is talking about being back on the Isle of Skye. That's one of my favourite places in the entire world; it's utterly beautiful. Your crew become your family, you truly care about them. The banter between everyone here is absolutely spot-on. The devs nailed it. Fantastic work.
I'm from the Americas & the Isle of Skye was one of the first places I chose as a kid to visit. Though I have yet to get there, that scene when he spoke of it hit pretty hard too. It's nice to know from someone whose seen it firsthand is as mesmerized as I one day will be.
I like the fact that Roy gets mad (i think) at Caz when Caz says "Can't you eat some bloody jam" Because if Roy is needing his insulin, his blood sugar is high, not low
If he was mad, it was probably mad in a light-hearted manner. But honestly, the comment kinda fits with Caz's personality, because he's more of a direct person, likely trending towards immediate solutions to more complicated matters, such as beating a man who likes his partner, rather than taking a high road or some other solution. That, and most people probably know fuck-all about Diabetes, unless they have it themselves, so it kinda fits even then.
Very much sucks that you dont get a choose to actually get the insulin earlier I just wish the game was slightly less linear because it could been something golden but lacks anyreal replayability with how the moments with monsters can be passes so easily
he was worried and scared, he transferred that over to frustration and humour, it's a way to cope and a response, everyone works differently and that's just caz's way, he's tough and a good friend
My dad works att an oil rig and hes told me stories about an oil rig in the uk named piper alpha which exploded because of jet fires and killed 165 of the 226 workers on board the only means of escape was to jump into the freezing ocean from a 60 meter drop and hope that you can keep swimming until help arrives. i also texted him asking about the natural disaster and he responded with this: Yes oil rigs are affected by weather. In the gulf of new mexico there are yearly hurricanes when they have a big hurricane warning they lock up all the stuff inside or strap it in they also send everyone onshore.
Watching you play these games is like living a different life altogether, feeling the dangers, and feelings without actually being in danger. Doing all this sitting comfortably in one place. This is true entertainment, thank you for this and that commentary.
Yellow is a common safety color used at a lot of industrial plants. When I first started at my family’s company I have to repaint the ladder and guard rails yellow.
"Lab Samples" of oil... You have laboratories in every mining operation... Coal, oil, etc... They take a sample of the ore and then they study it to see what quality it has... Great game tbh, keep up them vids IGP, cheers :D
This 💯! Labs don't always equate to biologic labs. At least for this, they will do tests on the oil and anything else I believe in order to determine the viability and if they need to initiate something to optimize production
The picture you see on all the tv's is what we would get back in the 80's and 90's when tv would finish at 1am maybe 2am in the morning before 24hr tv. It used to be a little girl around 9-10 years old drawing on a blackboard, playing x and o, with a teddy bear. The attention to detail is off the chain, from a Glaswegian.
I never thought I’d watch a 4 hour long gameplay but once I started there was no going back omg. The story and the way you presented it was absolutely incredible… I thought it would be somewhat of a good ending but damn. The part where Caz lights the whole thing up and he’s getting flashbacks of his wife and kids… got me kinda emotional ngl. This was almost like watching a movie… Thank you man for such an incredible video…
You can really see how Caz is the only one believing that he can come back to his family and be happy such a good writing you can even see that the place is getting more distorted and sad the more is Caz loosing his hope about getting back
I think the whole game is a metaphor for Caz, and the hope he has about getting back to his family and off the rig. It's clear from the beginning that family is a very important theme.
Now that I've watched further into it, Caz actually makes the point that there's still some of them left even if they've been corrupted, and they each call for a person, for instance, Connor calls for "Mary" and the rest of them call for an employee on the rig that worked fairly close to them. It's basically a message about the value of relationships.
I fucking LOVE that they have translated the scottish slang into english in the subtitles. Everytime i hear something my dad (from glasgow) would say but see what my mum (from england) would say in the subtitles i chuckle.
As a Scottish person who lives in Glasgow I can't stress enough how good the voice acting and use of Scottish slang is in this game, absolutely spot on!
I agree! Though I can't personally vouch for/against slang (writing from the US), the dialogue feels really natural! Also, the character's voices change depending on what they're doing, like Finlay sounding more strained in the beginning, while up on the ladder, for example. It sounds like a movie where the actors were speaking lines AND doing the blocking, not just in a recording booth, which is AWESOME! The PS4 Spiderman games did the same, where the VA's recorded once normally and once strained to account for the web slinging. tldr: I'm in agreement! The voice acting is AMAZING (also sorry for the ramble, I got excited.)
This game is absolutely beautiful, the voice acting was legitimately some of the best i've ever heard before and it delivers the story in such a profound way that you almost forget its not a movie, this is science fiction horror game design at its absolute finest. That scene with Caz finding Roy dead when he arrived literally had me fighting off tears, this is great story telling, we need more games like this.
For real about the voice acting...the beginning with his wife talking was absolutely amazing anand emotional. The actress put so much emotions iinto it.
@LunaBirbosa fair but I'd say eldritch is a better descriptor. We never even really see the full monster, and it's able to corrupt all it comes across, so I think it fits the bill
This game had magnificent storytelling. Easily the best sea horror game since fucking SOMA, dawg. I cried a lot during my playthrough, especially after you blow up the rig and after you find Roy... Apparently he passed out due to his insulin loss, and passed away. Magnificent storytelling, brings a tear to your eye. You go through all that to survive, and it was nothing but a lost cause. Ive never seen a game like that before. The Chinese Room definitely had their redemption on this one
Roy was the only one that died of natural causes, not of a disaster or because of "that". It is a downer of a game though, even if the ending can be seen as "the best possible ending for everyone".
Very different game but Cyberpunk is similar in that you go through a crap ton but to not spoil it to much the ending is no “happy ending”. I still gotta finish the dlc though and it has a new ending.
There's one thing I love the most about your videos, amongst a lot of others, and that's the echo or muffle effect you put on your voice when you're underwater or in a cave or something, it makes it surprisingly more immersive to watch. Thanks for the great content!
My man, 10/10 playthough, 10/10 commentary, 10/10 game. Probably one of the best playthroughs i've ever seen. All of your reactions were appropriate, nothing over the top, but you let the emotions flow. All of your commentary was intelligent, no screeching or immaturity or pandering. I loved the editing you did on your voice to make it seem like you were in the game. You also kept the pace up through the whole video with minimal cuts, which I thought was very impressive! You've earned my sub, and my like, and i'll be coming back for more!
Piper Alpha oil platform, north-east of Aberdeen, Scotland. It exploded 6th of July in 1988, and killed 167, including two from the rescue members. The crew on board the platform was 226, and only 61 workers survived and escaped. It is the deadliest Oil platform disaster ever. I assume this game was inspired by this specific tragedy, with it being set in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.
You Nailed it now there’s better safety improvements and requirements implemented because of that event I’m shur that’s what inspired this game was that tragedy

Like what IGP noticed in the distance during the latter half of the game, with the storm raging at night, you could occasionally see what looked like the silhouettes of bones forming in the distance. Whatever the Beira D cracked open at the bottom of the ocean... I think it may have been an egg of some sort. The crew? Nothing but sustenance for the entity in the end. The worst part about all of this? We've no idea if Caz actually managed to kill the entity. If anything, I don't think he actually did. In the end, he only managed to save himself and whatever poor bastard was still alive, corrupted or not, by blowing up the rig...
good job igp. you didn't die! i played this myself, didn't sleep for a few hours, and realized you never died! normally, with youtubers such as special edd, they died many times, but you did a perfect run! good job!
thats what I love about igp and this playthrough. you can tell IGP really cares alot about the story and caz to double check sure if every corner or room is safe. He really does want him to survive. Always complaining about opening the vents, talking loudly. IGP has a big heart and he deserves every subscriber tbh.
All of the dead people who weren't turned probably just died from trauma related to the rigs gradual destruction, like how Finley died at the end from being crushed by that steel truss.
We need more games like this, and fewer AAA-studio games. It's obvious this one was made with love and care and passion, and most importantly: No constraints. No check-boxes, no mandates. This is art.
@@Karkuzz Probably anything related to LGBTQ stuff or some shit like that, I dunno. Can't have anyone different feeling like they belong by showing them representation, I guess. Wait until OP finds out that there's minority and communist representation in the game...
Yellow is likey used as the color of "Go here" and "You can open this" due to the same reason that road signs and road paint is commonly yellow, its bright and noticeable. Plus with yellow being used on road signs and road paint most people are already trained to look at yellow as a form of instruction.
It's less about the specific color, and more about contrast. Yellow is usually a pretty good contrast to most environments, but highly saturated colors in general work.
It's an oil rig. They use any sort of high-contrasting paint on oil rigs for safety guidelines and indications of danger. The game goes an extra mile with it, though you can turn the extra yellow paint that was solely put in to guide players off in the settings. The rest of the yellow paint that makes sense for the game's setting remains.
also game devs have repeatedly faced issues where players don't know where tf to go unless something is yellow, and then when you add in yellow they get mad at the game for "hand holding"
I love how he criticizes everything the character can do if it were in real life, "Just unscrew the rest of the vent! This is going to make so much noise!" and when he was talking to Finlay through the window "I could just squeeze through that common!"
"Do oil rigs have trouble with hurricanes?" As far as I know much less that youd expect. Theyre anchored to the sea floor so no floating off or flipping over and theyre floating so no snapping of any stilts. The oil pipe might snap and cause a huge oil spill but they have prevention measures for that and the whole thing is metal so not much structural damage usually. Though of course, its never without dangers
I've read before that there's two types of rigs the more notable ones like in the game that are anchored to the ocean floor by huge steel beams but also the kind that are anchored like how a ship is and that they float but I'm not sure how true that is
there's a few tragedies of pretty major losses due to rigs getting caught in hurricanes/storms [100+ lives lost in the case of the Alexander Keilland in the 1980s]. Though part of rigs being lost/damaged seems to always line up with poor safety adherence in combination with a natural disaster of some kind.
Can we just talk about the voice acting in this game? So real and raw and I’ve never seen another horror game get this close to how good it was. The atmosphere too, haven’t seen something this good since Outlast. Never seen your channel before but loved your commentary and mic effects. Earned ya self a new viewer today!
@14:16 I work in a semiconductor facility. EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) dictates based on safety standards that certain hazards are known and color coordinated. Our outdoor ladders are painted bright yellow so everyone is aware of their locations. Certain railings are also colored brightly or taped off with reflective tape so night work can be aware of the edges and fall zones.
Hey, I started watching this video when it came out because I thought it looked interesting, but your intro convinced me that I needed to personally experience it so I've been waiting for the right time to play it and avoiding any content surrounding it. I finally played it the whole way through in one sitting today and it's now in my top five favorite games of all time. I like horror without a ton of jump scares because I feel like it challenges the creators to find other ways to make something scary and I never really felt that quick-release shock sort of fear with Still Wakes the Deep, it was just that lingering sense of dread that courses through you for every second of the experience, kind of like watching Coraline for the first time again. I love the concept that the main character is running away from something back home so now all you can do to protect yourself from the monster is run and hide. It was a beautiful and terrifying game and it gave me a completely new standard for horror. I'm going to finish this video at some point, but thank you for being so adamant about playing it personally. This truly is a game that's best experienced alone and uninterrupted.
By far, the best voice acting in a game. Not one bad actor in the bunch. I never watch the whole game play in one sitting like I did here. And you’re the perfect combination of a player that is terrified , yet also plays well. Good job to the game devs and to the content creator!
If you are looking for incredible voice acting and also a great narrative/horror, I recommend Slay the Princess. It has all of these things and more. Trust me you are going to enjoy that one!
I feel the saddest part is the fact that suze and everyone else probably won't ever know about what actually happened on the rig and it might just be considered a accidental explosion
Of everything, that would be the best outcome. Considering the fact that infection is spread through the contact with that oil, if it hasn't all burned out, then the whole world is in danger, so it better stay the local incident
@IGP at around 50:00 when he was talking about "I didn't mean too" and "I keep seeing his face" it was Gibbo saying that he was infected and is still concious but is not in control of his own actions and is now huanted by the fact he just killed his own freind.
I think there should be a T shirt that just says “you need to do it manually” in honor of every game ever that required your character to do whatever manually.
I ate these 4 hours like if I was watching a long movie, it's just crazy. The level of details and horror this game has is just incredible, you don't need a jumpscare to freak out, the mutated people's level of agony and the ambient just sell it all. Thank you for this IGP, I discovered this channel not too long ago but I already love your personality and videos. Have a great day!!
I absolutely love the audio differences you created depending on your environment but especially between your voice above water as to when the character is below water. I've only seen a couple others take the time to do that, but just so you know it is ALWAYS impressive and noteworthy! I'm new to your channel but this was a wonderful play through.
I showed this game to my son because I'm not a player... My ass was glued to the couch watching him play the entirety of this game! It was a great horror game! 😮
As a Scot I will say that I was a wee bit disappointed that none of my kinsmen in this game called the monster “skinny malinky longlegs” or shouted “it’s a dreich day!” At the dismal weather
Imagine haing patter with the monsters. "HOI MUIR, YE HOACHIN' BASTARD, STOAP FLINGIN' TH' CREW AFF THE DERRICK" "TROTS, YER GONNAE BREK THE FUCKIN' WASHIN' MACHINE"
I think it’s partially because all the survivors knew the people turned on a personal level, so they called the creatures by the names that matched the voices coming from the creatures.
2:04:08 “Lab Samples” would be perfectly normal on an oil rig, nothing sus about it. Pretty much all oil and gas extraction facilities, on land or rigs at sea, will have a “lab” to some degree or another. They have to have ways to verify that they are in fact extracting oil and gas of whatever specific chemical makeup the rig is extracting for. You drill a hole in the earth, under the ocean or not, you’re gonna be pulling out more than oil. It then needs to be “filtered” and processed into a usable product to be taken off site. Even crude unrefined oil has significant processing from extraction to the point it can be sold at market. Just goes to show just how in depth the devs researched this, and how perfectly they recreated a real rig for this. Nothing, save for the obvious eldritch horror, is out of place, or doesn’t make real world sense
I love how you can tell the characters already know each other well in a very organic way it makes each death /corruption hit harder

Reminds me of deepwater horizon, the corporate fatcats just ignore all the safety officers warnings and drill which causes so many deaths.
@@Literally_a_Mothget tae fuck
@@Literally_a_Moth I love how they made Caz so messy in that revelation too. Throughout the game you always had a sense of him trying to "fix" or more accurately run away from the problem and hoping that everything will eventually work out (him crime, his marriage, his job, escaping the rig itself, etc) even when reality tells him otherwise. Finlay telling him to "be brave" was so beautiful as he finally takes a stance to stand his ground and face reality even when it will cost him everything. GOD, what an amazing game!
damn did your grandfather also encounter a huge head with tentacles
Ignoring the fact it’s an incredible story, for someone like me, from the west of Scotland, finally hearing a game in my language, my accent, hearing words that only people from my home will know, it’s the first time a game has been truly immersive.
I done an offshore safety course many years ago with a view to working on the rigs. This game reminds me so much of that (even though we never got onto the rigs, there were several emergency scenarios set up in the place we trained in and I saw a few similar here)
I think, when you’re American or even English, you hear your accent and dialect so often you don’t think about it as much but playing a game, no matter how good, and hearing the sane American accents just tears you out of the immersion the developers are trying to create so this, for me, in my accent, with my dialect and with words in our language that are purely ours, and in an industry that has been a bedrock of our society for so long…
It’s just so amazing, so breathtaking
I totally get what you mean. I'm Aussie and it's so rare to feel like a game environment is mine, my world, my people. Usually it's America. Interesting but not personal.

It's fitting that Rennick, who's colossal ego helped cause this mess, turns into a monster who's head is literally too big for the room.
And he becomes totally obsessed with killing Caz, now that he doesnt care whats on his record anymore
And his only one of the few monster that I totally yelled "use your head you dmn fck! You have tentacles! You can easily grab him!"
That is the worst kind of torture, being a part of a monster but still Conscious and aware that you are killing your friends
Aren't they just monsters tho? I would need to know the anatomy of these mobs, but I think that they aren't really "consious" and that's, because the monster either fuses with them which alters their brains and changes their bodies,
or changes their bodies and the brain, so their emotions are altered either way.
Just a specluation tho.
Im pretty sure that the voices aren't apart of their
consciousness its probably used by the host to lure them but i dont
know if its true since Gibbo said
tell my wife or parents bla bla bla
Thats pretty much what the flood from halo are it kinda reminded me of them and the necromorhs

The developer's choice of making the monsters procedurally generated really sells the unpredictable and alien vibe of the enemy creatures. It also just looks smoother. The creatures walking on their tendrils reminds me of the Long Legs from Rain World, or the monster from Carrion.

Because if Roy is needing his insulin, his blood sugar is high, not low
If he was mad, it was probably mad in a light-hearted manner.
It ends up being kinda goofy in the moment but useful in the long run.
I found this video by happenstance, and just started this game yesterday! The accent is gorgeous!
This game is absolutely beautiful, the voice acting was legitimately some of the best i've ever heard before and it delivers the story in such a profound way that you almost forget its not a movie, this is science fiction horror game design at its absolute finest. Yellow is likey used as the color of "Go here" and "You can open this" due to the same reason that road signs and road paint is commonly yellow, its bright and noticeable. Plus with yellow being used on road signs and road paint most people are already trained to look at yellow as a form of instruction.
It works here because Yellow is also used on rigs to indicate safety guidelines, so shit like ladders and stuff would realistically be painted yellow.

The story in this game is infinitely better than any movie I've seen in years.
God bless your language bro its so funny😌🙏🙏🙏🙏
Or responded to their screaming with "Fuck up ya gimp"
Imagine haing patter with the monsters.
"HOI MUIR, YE HOACHIN' BASTARD, STOAP FLINGIN' TH' CREW AFF THE DERRICK"
"TROTS, YER GONNAE BREK THE FUCKIN' WASHIN' MACHINE"
I think it’s partially because all the survivors knew the people turned on a personal level, so they called the creatures by the names that matched the voices coming from the creatures.
In the beginning im pretty sure one of the characters said that its a dreich day
Man, the intro with his wife talking...
Props to the voice actress, it's been a while since the last time I heard someone put so much emotion into it.
That's what happens when a VA gets enough pay

“Lab Samples” would be perfectly normal on an oil rig, nothing sus about it.
It could also be a marine life and seabed analysis lab!
It is obvious that a lab would exist
I wonder if they actually contacted some oil rig workers, or if they just did really good research.
Voice actors putting in WORK man holy hell
