2024 Ford Mustang GT: Is It the Best Update Yet?

  • Last year at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford showed off the all-new 7th Generation Ford Mustang for the very first time. We have gotten to see it at a couple of shows since then, but have not gotten to peek inside or video one… until now.
This 2024 pre-production GT model was still off-limits for me to get inside myself, but that did not stop me from filming as much as I could from outside the vehicle.
The new updated styling has been called a blatant rip-off of the Camaro, Challenger, and pretty much any other V8 RWD performance vehicle currently on sale. In person, I can say it is 100% Mustang. From the classic design elements like the long hood, fastback rear window, and short deck lid, this is a purebred Mustang in its most modern iteration.
Following in the current, industry-wide design trend of making larger and larger front grilles (remember the 2019 Camaro SS?), the 2024 Mustang does get an enlarged grille to help feed air into the revised and more powerful 5.0L Coyote V8 still lurking under the hood. In what is perhaps the last generation of the gas-powered pony car, this generation also gets a more-powerful trim that slots above the GT dubbed “Dark Horse”. The Dark Horse model targets 500 horsepower, but Ford has released no power numbers on this GT model yet. We do expect it to be more than the current GT’s 450 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. We also expect it to be more than the current Camaro SS’s 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.
Helping channel that power to the rear wheels is a six-speed Getrag MT-82 manual transmission in this GT. Dark Horse models get a Tremec TR-3160. The tires are staggered-width Pirelli P-Zero 19-inch, wrapped around some cool-looking black wheels. 255/40s up front 275/40s in the rear.
We didn’t get to sit in it, much less drive it, so we will reserve all our strong opinions for when we truly get to experience the car in all its V8 glory. We also do not have many details on it, so be sure you are subscribed so we can share it with you when it is released.

They’ve already released the numbers. The GT makes 480 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with the active exhaust.

Nicely presented…a few details were not completely accurate but THANK YOU for being the first TH-camr (that I have seen) to open the hood and show the new dual intake configuration!! I’ll be ordering one just like this, but without the performance pack. Great video!

At first I didn’t like it especially the front end and the creased rearend, but
maybe I’ll like it more when I see it in person lol. Just like the last gen I wasn’t
sure until I saw it and drove it. The interior is definitely an upgrade, can’t wait.

If it's not tunable as the rumors go, I will just stick to a 2018 model possibly. I own a 2013 GT Premium right now and love the power, just looking at a future car in the next 3 years.

Ford announced that they’re willing to work with 3rd party tuners for the new Mustang, Roush is already working on making a supercharger kit for it, and there’s rumors that the ECU in the new Mustang is going to be the same or extremely similar to the 2021-23 5.0 V8 F-150s which have already been jailbroken. I wouldn’t be too worried about the ECU lock thing tbh
