As a joker main this is very helpful. Now I know what not to do and what to do in specific situations. The best way to optimize a character is to know there weaknesses as well as there strengths. Great job!

I really needed some help like this for a long time, although I don’t own any of the downloads from Smash, my “friend” keeps flexing his Joker on me. I needed to find a way to blah against him since my Little Mac, Mewtwo, Lucas, and Mike fighter couldn’t fight against him. So thanks for showing me a few more tips, guess I gotta get myself back to Sami’s ever since Smash 3ds.
I hate how sakurai rewards players for getting hit, it’s kinda stupid not gonna lie, I think instead persona should be filled up by hitting your opponent rather then them hitting you, that way if you do a combo on him he won’t get persona instantly
That would also mean that Joker could potentially do really stupid stuff like zero to death if he manages to get a combo long enough to summon Arsene in it.
@@michaelbesser5348 No it wouldnt, it would prevent him from getting broken arsene every 5 seconds because his meter builds super fast even without rebels guard. I played Ken, grabbed a 0% joker, grab hit him twice and forward threw him which got him to 14%, and he got half persona meter from it. That is ridiculous
This is a tip you can use as Samus against most characters with a reflect (aside from starfox characters). At a zair range (or there about) launch a super missile (green tipped) then short hop. If you’ve done it right you should be able to move on top of your opponent and punish the end lag of the hit then with a nair, or dair. In the case of dair at mid to low percents you should be able to get some aerial combo off of the dair or at very low percents it might combo into an up-smash. You can also use an up-b to combo but that is fare more risky.
Joker has a couple more kill options in base than shown at 5:50. As ZSS I've been KOed from middle stage with up tilt, killed near edge with dash attack, killed by back airs middle stage, and not at super high % either.
Is there any particular reason Gun can't be reflected or blocked by the Links' shields? It feels like they didn't finish programming Joker before releasing him.
@Mario so it’s actually the same as bayonetta’s bullet arts- they aren’t considered projectiles but are actually disjointed hitboxes like a really long skinny sword. The visual frame data when it comes out (unless the joker discord has it already) will sort of look more like a much faster shulk f smash rather than something like links arrows. So it can go straight through opponents (could be very useful in doubles) and it can’t be absorbed/reflected by things like fox shine or g&w bucket. Because bullets are disjointed they also can’t be turned around by Mario/docs cape (I’m 99.9% certain but will check) in the same way that you can’t reflect mii gunners f smash
My friend is new to smash and im not and ever since he got joker i cant like i cant he always spams doge rolls i know those are so easy to punish but i get so nervous wiith him i cant and his down b is is life support someone help me i know i know thats clearly a noob but yeah i think im just bad
@Angelo Diaz maybe online spamming will do that, but offline spam gets countered with down b and punished with his speed (especially out of a parry with the new change to that). I would say that if anything spamming aerials like samus’ back air or zair to outspace joker would be more annoying. But spam from young links arrows, olimars pikmin, and snakes general trading and nades are most definitely annoying no matter what for joker.
Dr. Jay You are probably right about that actually. I don’t really have much experience in the game offline tho. I mostly play online cause I don’t have anyone to play with offline. In my experience online samus and rob players are the most troubling to me, but now that you mentioned snake also gives me trouble online. One time I fought online a samus player that was mostly spamming but when I got close to him he somehow always got me with the forward air or a grab.
@Angelo Diaz don’t worry bud, as a samus main that primarily focuses on offline competitive play (and style is very important for me) I even get beat by spamming samus’ online sometimes! Once you get you’re punish game down though you’ll be able to destroy spammers even online if you can capitalize on the few openings you get (as spammers generally can’t combo lol) PS Go on Facebook or smash.gg and find a local tourney, no matter where you are there’s always one an hour or less away. It’s a great way to meet friends, find practice partners, and have fun and it’s the absolute best way to improve
@@Wallie33. As he said, spamming basically never will work against Joker. Throwing out projectiles against him to interrupt things or put him in a bad spot is all well and good, but spamming either leads to feeding Joker his persona from Rebel's Guard or the lag after shooting a projectile (in Samus's case, this would be more applicable to side B than neutral B) giving him a chance to get in, which isn't good. Instead, spacing around him with larger normals is more the way to go. Don't spam projectiles, but don't let Joker get too close, because he'll tear you apart if you let him get in.
This relates to the very beginning. If your opponent grabs you when you jump attack, are they most likely trying to read your jumps? So you should stay low and do tilt and smash attacks? Anyways. Thank you.
@Quasim If anything it’s the opposite- you generally grab when reading that your opponent will shield, will use a move with armor, or at lower skill levels will use some ridiculously slow move like a ganon smash attack. Grabs are also good to just fish for in neutral at very low or very high percents with a lot of characters so it could be just them fishing for a grab, and recognizing the times when your opponent can benefit greatly from a grab (at very low or ko percent) will help you be aware that it’s probably coming making it easier to react. The best way to get past grabs is generally to out space it and punish- basically if you think your opponent will grab (non tether grab) then quickly dash back out of the way (not roll or jump) and then when you see the opponent grab thin air dash back in and grab them or hit them with a combo starter/ko move. Tether grabs are longer ranged but slower start up and ending so jumping over them or spotdodging is easier.
@Hoshimaster parry, dodge/jump over, or just take the gun shot, and then overshoot an attack to punish it (aim where they will go after shooting not where they are while they’re shooting) like a dash attack or running f tilt. Basically any spammer by definition is doing the same thing over and over, so pay attention to what they do after they use the spam move and then be one step ahead of them with a counterattack
Joker’s counter lasts too long and comes out too quick. You can’t describe in words how annoying it is for a joker to pull out a counter right after missing one against something like ganon f smash
Such a broken character honestly. Stupid frame data, buffed pk fire, reflect AND counter on one move, fills arsene WAYY too fast even without rebels guard, and almost impossible to edge guard

Al Dali same my friend acts like he’s the fucking best because he uses Joker, he doesn’t combo, barley shields, and and doesn’t grab at all
So... do you hate rush down as a whole, or Joker specifically. For the most part, Joker plays a lot like Shiek, just with a Persona attached.

As a joker main, I can confirm that you only need to spam with Samus or learn how to play Rob. Those characters are what give me the most trouble.
