Our story with Justin continues! As viewers have watched on our channel, Justin served over 16 months in a juvenile prison before being transferred to a residential placement facility because he had no home or family to return to upon release. Prison superintendent Mike Dempsey and several other correctional staff worked around the clock to keep Justin safe while he was behind bars, and Mike Dempsey made it his mission to find the best "home" for Justin after fighting for over a year to get him out of prison.
In a previous video on our channel (Part 2) we uploaded a video of the day Justin was transferred from prison to his new placement facility, Damar. It was a bewildering day for Justin as he tried to absorb his new surroundings and what might be ahead in his new life.
Justin lived at Damar for two years and made EXTRAORDINARY strides with the help of staff, volunteers and a special mentor who helped him achieve milestones many thought he might never achieve. He learned to read and write, developed a love for learning and worked hard on his social skills so he could someday become as self-sufficient as possible and thrive in the community.
In this heartwarming video, we go back in time to Justin's last day at Damar before moving into a group home nearby, also run by Damar. We see a soon-to-be 18-year old Justin say goodbye to the friends he's made while living there, and watch as they give him advice before he leaves. We then travel in the van with Justin and a Damar staff member, Berlin, as they make the short drive to his new home. We watch as a happy Justin sees his new room and new house for the first time. We also talk to Justin's new group home supervisor, Sharron, who, in the years to come, develops a wonderful bond with Justin and watches him grow and mature into the incredible young man he is today!

I watched all the videos of his story and I was wondering if his family ever bothered to make any contact with him now he's an adult. I hope they do, it breaks my heart why the family did this to him. I think that at least they should be involved in his life. If the the parents at least the grandparents.
What State is this?
@@Estrella2001 I believe his family completely shunned him. His parents are pathetic people. He did get adopted by one of the workers who use to work with him. He’s happy 😃 with them and they love him. He end up winning 🥇 big time
hoping it was kate frazier she would be the best mom
to him
it is in indiana
(I watched all the videos regarding Justin) I would adopt that young man in a heartbeat if I could, no matter what his circumstances are. He's a good kid who deserves a home.
He actually was adopted by one of the workers who worked with him. Last time I saw an update… they were planning to take sweet Justin to California
So nice of you to say that @David Dave. We're happy to report that Justin was adopted by a loving long-time mentor and they are doing great today. We hope you'll stay tuned for much more of his story ahead!
@@CalamariProductions Ok good :)
@@CalamariProductions AAAWE. I cried through some parts.
@@CalamariProductions I'm so pleased he's been adopted. Thanks for uploading an update on how Justin is getting on. I've thought about him a lot after seeing your first video of him. My Boys have complex needs and he reminded me of them so much. I too would of adopted him if I was able to. I live all the way in England though so would of been impossible. I wish Justin all the best, God bless him ❤.
It’s amazing to remember what his learning capacity was thought to be when he was younger. He is a totally different person. This is what happens when we are surrounded by people who love us and care about our future! Justin is adorable. Big thanks to those who have poured their all into him!
SO true @Lashelle King! Unconditional love and support makes all the difference. Justin is definitely proof of that!
@@CalamariProductions thanks for bringing these stories to light!!!

Its also what happens when you do NOT send young people with mental disabilities to prison as so many like to do but rather put them in the PROPER environments.

I want to hug Justin so hard. You can just tell he's had a lot of pain in his life but he has so much goodness in him. Just love him!!!
I want someone to really hug him. Just to let him know he’s loved.
I as a mother and grandmother would love to hug him
I think he’s Autistic, and hugging isn’t always wanted. He is loved by all you can tell ❤️ Wonderful people doing all they can 🙏
He was adopted!
@@MM-td3wy I think you know what they meant.
@@suzannedeaton76 I do too. He needed to know he was loved and that he really mattered. I'm so happy Kate recognized his needs and advocated for him to live the life he deserved with all the resources he needed. The state of Indiana has really taken Justin and changed a lot of young lives for the better. Imagine how many childrens lives would be improved and become successes of this was a national goal to save our children??
Man I’m only 29 years old but I would love to take care of Justin. I’ve been watching his story from the very beginning and have always been a huge fan . I would love for Justin be apart of my family. We need a go fund me for Justin
I pray that Justin continue to improve. He had done quite well there. He is much more outgoing. Love and special attention well heal problems.
Berlin is the absolute sweetest human being. Justin couldn’t have a better role model to teach him about life, they are so lucky to have each other
Oh My Heart! When she talked about him calling her Mom… he must have felt that connection. I know that’s all he’s ever wanted, even back when I worked with him we talked about that a lot. It’s hard because I wanted so bad to say it’s ok you’ll see her someday but knowing that’s not reality. Bless his heart! He’s one I’ll never forget. I worked in a group home like that in the community and it’s so nice for all the kids to have that kind of normalcy.
I hope Justin is thriving in adulthood. 💙 He deserves the best life has to offer!
Thanks so much for posting this - it brings back so many memories.
Takes a village that’s for sure. So sad this even happened in the first place and am so glad it brought changes in the court system. I was floored when I learned he was never represented by legal counsel when he started entering the system. He should have never wound up in jail in the first place and glad change was made. Just absolutely mind blowing. Thanks for all you do!
Justin is such a unique and genuine individual, he deserves only love and compassion from this point
Why is he in there? What did he d,o? I haven't really watched anything. Will later I suppose.
Calamari-The lady who's always with the camera, Thank you for having such a loving heart for these children/adolescents. Thank you for not abandoning them after documenting. You seem to become a piece of their roots to their growing tree. 🙌You are amazing!!
✌️♥️
Hi @Love, Lana. Karen here, Founder of Calamari and the person you often hear behind the camera (I'm a lousy camera operator :)). You are so very, very nice to say these words about the children we meet and follow here at Calamari Productions. It is humbling beyond words to do this work. More importantly, so many of these kids become like family to us. I can't imagine my life without them in it! Most of all, we want to say thanks to people like you -- and all the amazing viewers/subscribers on our Calamari TH-cam Channel -- for showing your love and compassion for the kids we film. This work doesn't exist without people watching and caring. Thank YOU for that! We hope you will stay tuned for much, much more ahead. So happy you're on this journey with us!
@@CalamariProductions You are the only one that I know of that has brought these forgotten kids to the attention of the public, and allowed us to follow their journey through their lives. So many of them just had a complete failure of family from the beginning, then no help afterwards in the system that just tosses them away and forgets them till they turn 18 and they can see how much worse they can make their already fragile lives.
I don't know how you do it, once I got started following a child like this through their life I'm not sure I could let them go after the video production stopped. Its gotta be one of the hardest things to have to let go of them and move on. Probably about as bad as it would be to be a foster parent and having kids come and go from your home and your life. I'd love to be a foster parent but wow, just a few videos I've seen of that ugg, that would be hard...I guess to look at the positive side would be the best and only way through it. You brought that boy's life to the forefront that most people would never see, or hear, or even know to exist. These are the types of reality videos that should be out there. These kids need people like you to give them a voice, to show us out here in the world that we as a society need to be more aware of kids that are in dire need of our guidance and our help, and encourage them rather than bad mouth them, and shame them.
Can I just say we need more Berlin's in this world 🌍 he is genuinely invested in these kids. He loves them, respects them and is patient. For some of those kids, he's probably the first real example of how a "parent" should treat a kid they've ever seen. There's a special place in heaven for folks like him ♥️
For all those touched by Justin's story there are 1000's of kids just like him. Foster children and you will quickly see...
As he was walking up to his new placement home, he was all smiles...awesome!!!! Justin you've come a long way from the handcuffs, shackles, and chains. Best of luck to you young man.
Gosh....I feel like I've watched him grow up !! I look at him now and remember that cute little boy face when he first started on his POSITIVE journey. Now he's grown into a handsome young man that has such a bright future just waiting for him. He deserves the best life can offer !!!
@teresa6775 - Yes he does!! Thank you for watching. He's a special young man and we're happy to report he continues to do great!
The communication, articulation, and comprehension he displays now is amazing!!! Such a totally different young man! I have been an emotional, sobbing, and ugly crying mess!!! He is such a blessing! Not only are you amazing with a camera and the way you capture things you are so amazing with him as well! You all have helped him achieve happiness!!! His family left him in such a mess but I am thankful they didn’t try to keep him! He is getting the love and structure he needs to be genuinely happy and productive! These documentaries have literally changed me as a human!!!
I hope things are still going good for Justin.. He deserve to be happy
I can’t get over how much Justin has grown, he’s certainly such a wonderful person.I really hope that one day he will go to California and swim in the ocean. For him to call that lady mum brought tears to my eyes.I really can’t wait to see the next video of Justin. You’re really such a wonderful person Kate. I am glad to hear Justin was adopted by a long time mentor. I hope it was the one lady who worked with him for years. She really cared about him. Whoever adopted him I hope they are a happy family.
His diologue is limited also I don't 👀 the frightened unsure gaze..I seem to feel like he has been looking forward to this...whoever adopted him has received one of God's Diamonds in the Rough.
Am so pleased to watch another update on Justin, can’t wait for further updates!
Very happy to learn he was adopted, Such a sweet young man.
He deserves love and happiness 💖
Adopted? Is there another video after this? Who adopted him?
@@susananderson7473 he was adopted by one of his mentors
i get emotional every time i watch something about Justin. i’m so happy for him. he deserves it. i really hope he is happy till this day and knows people love and care about him.
Its very weird, I get emotional as well anytime I've ran across videos of his journey. for some reason his story has stuck out in very odd ways that upset me to no end. I've read some other posts on this video that says he was adopted, I sure hope that was the case, he was in very dire need of a forever home and family...sure he may have turned 18 by his age, but it doesn't mean he's out of the woods, he needs all the support, all the love, and all the guidance he can get and that someone can give him. That's the only way he'll be able to make it out in the world that's not so nice and easy going.
I really hope they dont give up on him after he released . Lot of places do that. Please stay in touch with him. He needs all your support
From Berlin and to the rest of the staff, I thank you for what your doing with these young kids. I am new to this channel. From watching this video and hearing his story to the comments below, it sounds like he's really made a great change. Good for Justin. Keep up the great work Justin and to the rest of the kids out there.
Why is he a prison orphan? Was he born in the prison system.
@@sherripowell3955 he was abandoned by his biological family after he was imprisoned, . No one agreed to take him home , so the only place he could stay and get accommodation was in the prison system, he became a ward of the state but they worked to get him out incarceration and into a facility that would be more safe and helpful to his specific mental health needs . When he was in prison he had to be accompanied by a case worker at all times .
Understanding & Love goes a far way.. Thank you all who has been in this young man's life. Prayers always..
That Demar place clearly works. He is like a whole new kid. Really polite, no more cussing, a lot calmer. That was money well spent by the DOC.
I started crying when she said Justin called her mom so sweet. This is a great place I wish Justin the best in life.
Why is he in there? What did he d,o? I haven't really watched anything. Will later I suppose.
@@DrivenA111 oh you need to watch. Peace from iowa usa!
He's such a sweetheart. I believe he'll do just fine. I'm so happy he has a family now. I hope he gets to go to California to the beach. I'm so proud of him. He has over come.
PS. Berlin is a blessing to those individuals under his care. You can tell he cares so much and he is so knowledgeable!
Justin has really matured and have grown from the first video I saw. I know the people in charge really love and care for those children. I pray to God he makes in this life and that he will have all the skills for when he becomes an adult that he can make it in society without getting into trouble on the streets. I am really praying for him and the other children.
Awww~Justin is sooo grown up now and such a wonderful young man!!He is so mature, many many blessings sent to him,I am so glad he is surrounded by good people,he has a bright future ahead of him,I just wanna hug him,so happy for him.☀️🌊

I want Justin to have a great life! I wish him nothing but happiness and great things in his future
He has a gentle soul. If I can adopt him I will definitely give all the love of a parent that he needs. 😘
Sweet, Justin. Ive loved being able to follow his journey! Not going to lie, hus humbleness with being nominated prom king brought a tear to my eye. Thanknyou for giving these otherwise forgotten children, a voice.
So happy you've been following along @Megan Lee. He is such a special young man. It's our honor to bring everyone his story, and we can't wait to finish producing the FULL documentary on his life. Thanks for being here with us and for caring about such an amazing boy!
This is such an amazing documentary. Thank you!! This shows how so many people cared about this young man & the strides he made in such a short time. Thank you to those who dedicated so much love to this adorable young man. I pray for his continued healing & looking forward to his new home! Sadly this is one story of millions but it gives a small glimpse into how children are treated in "child prison" & the agencies that help so much so they aren't turned back onto streets. I've cried & laughed...bless Justin!!
Thank for for sharing his story. I’m so glad he was able to fall into hands of people who care about him. It breaks my heart how many kids like this fall through the cracks and no one helps them. I’m so glad Justin has found his tribe
@Tracy Sizemore - very well said! Thank you for watching and being moved by his story. He is truly a gem and we're so happy he's doing so well today!
I can’t believe how far he has come! I’m so very happy for him and for everyone that has did their part in getting him to where he’s currently at. You go Justin! The sky is limit! 💙
Justin has grown so much and it brought tears to my eyes to see how far he has come. Thank You Justin and Calamari Productions for sharing his story. I retired from social services and work in Foster Care and with troubled you. These programs are so needed and the good ones like the one Justin is in are short in supply. Great job you guys. I cant wait to see the video when he gets to California.
Thank you for what you do. I'd love to be a foster parent at some point, but given the cards I was dealt I'm not so sure it could happen, and apparently due to that I'm not allowed to adopt either :(. The system needs fixed, just because you have a felony shouldn't keep you from being able to help children when the felony has nothing to do with children or violence. The system overlooks many great people out there that would love to give a child a forever home. Shame on the system...the same system black lists us, but yet ignores the calls over and over of children in deplorable conditions or that are being abused, and end up being killed at the hands of those that are supposed to be protecting them.
all he needs is a mom ♡ glad to see he's doing fine
Mine passed away about 3-1/2 years ago...I miss her so much, especially around the holidays, just a very empty feeling without her.
We adopted my youngest daughter at birth and Justin at 15 was very much like my daughter at 14 in terms of IQ and functioning. She, thank God, never had to face abandonment and as of right now, no real trouble. They are very special kids, I'm glad to see that Justin has come so far, it leaves me with hope that my daughter, one day, can reach some form of modified independence.
Have you had your adopted youngest daughter tested for autism?
I feel blessed & invested in this sweet, loving & beautiful young MAN. I hope to get to see many more of his traditions through out his life especially his trip to California. I 💕 to watch all of the episodes about him😇
God bless you Justin , keep your head up and you can be anything you want in life 🇺🇸
I've watched the very first documentry about Justin twice now. Didn't know there has been more video's. So glad to have come across more updates. He is one very special young man with an extraordinary story. I am extremely happy he's been adopted and doing good. Thanks for being so dedicated to sharing Justins story and bringing it to us.
My heart! I can't fathom going through this lifestyle. The adults that have been sooo big & helpful in Justin's life just melts my heart. It's not easy. Prayers forever for all of you awesome people working with these kids/adults & also the kids/adults going through this.
This young man has gone through hell on earth and one day when he is ready can use his life traumas to reach other youngsters who are facing similar problems at young ages. The beautiful part of all this is he is young and he has his whole life to be the man he wanted in his father! Prayers young man!
I pray for Justin OH lord please keep this young man in your hands. He reminds me of a young man I know

When people care about our youngsters it amazing how they can turn their lives around. We may not win them all but it certainly worth every effort..
I am so glad for Justin. He deserves the best in the world. Such a lovely kid. Wish him all the joy and hapiness. 💜
Will humans ever EVOLVE to realize NOT to bring unwanted or uninvited children into this cold, cruel world as "accidents" with a future of mental problems, crime or suicide.Worse yet heading straight into the juvenile justice system, already overburdened with unwanted, carelessly bred misfits, that cost taxpayers a fortune! Teach them early & often we are here to unleash all our genius, not all our stupidity in thoughts, words & deeds, to evolve higher with each new child that's born, not digressing backwards into brutes & savages!
I been with u guys every sense he was in juvenile!!! I’m so proud of bro fr makes me wanna cry to see had to go through this bs for no reason..!!!

You can see he is still distant from people. Does not get close to anyone. Trauma from being abandoned from mother. Heartbreaking.
It's very reassuring to know there are people out there who do care and genuinely want to help these kids. My faith in humanity has been restored.

Another excellent piece from Calamari. Love to see this kid grow!
Wow it is like a lightbulb went off such a difference in his social skills this place is bringing him back to who he was created to be. Such a special person and I do not mean special needs. What a great personality inside.
Calamari Productions, thank you for giving us Justin's story. I pray he feels the love we all have for him. I hope he knows how much we're rooting for him. If he is ever in California, near the Central Coast, we would love to host him for a good California bbq.

Thank you for the change in that young man's life!!! Can't wait to see where he goes in life. Love that he arrived with duffel bag and a shoebox. A baggie of toys and left with 4trashbags full.
I really love that Justin was adopted and has a forever home. I think we will all see that he will do well as a man, because alot of his learning and social will be more cultivated in a family home rather than a group setting

Justin is doing so well. I'm so proud of all the work an love they have given him. He's growing up so fast.
This guy needs bunch of hugs and feel loved. I see he feels much more confident and talks much more than in previous videos...and that's excellent. It would be so so good if someone could teach him how to play some music.
Y'all are so wonderful for helping these children 💖🙏💖
@Verlinda Allen - Thank you so much for such nice words, but trust us -- the kids are the real heroes. We're just honored to tell their stories, and Justin is truly one of the most remarkable kid's we've ever met! :)
What a amazing young man ! Hoping to see more videos of his journey! Wishing the best for him! Great job 👏
We're working on it @Dave B! Thanks for watching and being here with us!
Its documentaries like these that inspire me... i will be working with special needs children and adults. This would be so rewarding to me to be able to make such an impact in someone's life. No, not everyone has forgotten these beautiful souls... they remind me there is still innocence in this world and they are a blessing. Justin is so kind and I hope he has a life full of what happiness means to him! Seeing the ocean, playing video games, things most take for granted. Thank you for caring about him and making this documentary. It warmed my heart. From the first video of him in jail... to now, where he is free.
Be a voice, be a friend. ❤
We love you justin! Keep up the good work.go after your dreams make them come true #californie
