Duran is one of the greatest boxers to ever live. He is certainly in the top 5 and certainly the greatest lightweight boxer of all time. Respect for Roberto Duran, the Panamanian warrior.
I suppose he could be placed in the top-5, but I don't know if he belongs there. I have a hard time believing he is the greatest lightweight ever as well.
Hastein45 I think Duran deserves to be placed in the top 5 because he pretty much spent his 20's as the lightweight lion. Then after 70 fights he keeps up going in weight and winning titles in 3 more weight divisions. And remember that he was not in his prime anymore while he was defeating younger, bigger guys. I think its pretty safe to say that Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time. He destroyed every opponent as a lightweight like no other lightweight has done it before.

Roberto has nobody to blame but himself for "No mas." Quitter? Well he did quit. Period. But I subscribe to Randy Gordon's interpretation of that night more than any other theory. However "No Mas" should not define what he was in the sport of boxing. His rise back to the top in defeating Barkley showed the world the desire, pride and fury that lay beneath the exterior of Robert. Of course as if his performance in Montreal hadn't done that. Roberto is the only man to defeat a prime and physically peak SRL. The only man who was able to dent the aura of confidence that surrounded Sugar at the time. Duran beat him mentally before the fight and beat him in the ring. No other fighter did that to SRL. The sport misses Roberto. We do.

In the KB fight he screamed at the champion when he wouldn't drop. After the cheatin blow KB would have been in Duran's quarter making certain he was ok- not duran- he had a predator's look of pleasure. BUT winning vs. (Davey Moore and Iran Barkley). He rose again, and he was once again,.. the King. It is as the King as he will be remembered.
Mike Tyson said Roberto was the greatest of all times. His Hero.
I met Roberto Duran at Nelson billiards in Panama city it was a great experience. negative comments (Edited) I can easily back this up Lotus or Salvador try me.
lucky
You are full of shit 😂
@@paradoxal4 correct
@Kyzo I was there with Apollo Creed
Did you say he paid for the pool''? on his own table? Hmmmmm!!! Only kidding but it must've been a pleasure sitting in a BMW with he driving you around. An absolute legend in and out the ring.Probably had the biggest fan-base world wide than any fighter that ive heard about.I have him as the 2nd best fighter after the person who beat him in MMHagler.Hagler was too big for Roberto as he had to put on 28 Lbs to fight him as a middleweight. But he was the only fighter to take Hagler the distance.+He had to put on a stone '14 Lbs' to fight a 'in his prime SRLeonard and beat him.............+He 1st won the title from a Scotsman (my country) by punching him between the legs....And Guess who i met going down to Newcastle on the train 'Ken Buchanan' I asked Ken who was the best boxer ever? i was surprised by his reply in Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson...................................& Duran when asked who his toughest opponent was his reply was Buchanan!!!
After seeing this documentary, duran is the furthest thing from a quitter i know.
Easyandy100 he was being out boxed so badly he quit. and if this documentary changed ur opinion then ur no pugilistic fan
Also because he put on a lot of weight and started drinking a lot more heavier.
We do.
sanjuanpapi l knew that before l saw this video
Sorry man. I LIVED through that shit He quit like a bitch. Real shit
Amazing documentary, Roberto Duran will always be my idol 👊 he's one of the reasons I took up boxing
I drank with Roberto at Whiskey A Go Go in Toronto Canada I think the year was 1988. He ran an ad in the local newspaper saying he'd be there to drink and sign autographs and at the time I was the Canadian light-welterweight champion.
And your name is?
Nicky Furlano.
*****
Roberto like the name said was a whiskey drinker. He never drank beer at the bar.
@@parkerbohnn I remember you man. You can call yourself a fighter for sure. I did a little amateur stuff and got to spar some Champs. It was a great time. I watched Duran Train for Cuevas 2 days in a row @ Main St. Gym in Los Angeles and then saw the fight from the 10th row and Duran KO'd Cuevas in 4. Alfredo Escalera was on the undercard in a really good fight. so fast ! Duran loved people. You were a good fighter Nicky ! You had a few good fights against some names I remember. Hell, I can barely remember anything ,but boxing I don't forget. I'm 54 ! Crazy isn't it ? Take care Nicky !
I had to edit Escaleras name. again.Fuckin' computers. lol.
I'm half Spanish, so obviously my all time favorite is Roberto Duran. Campione del mundo.
A true warrior. One of the best
Take the ''one of '' out of your comment Gary , and you've hit the nail on the head ,
Gary Still the best
johnny p now you can be a commentator
Just like Apollo Creed
Duran is the template of a real man!
No real man accepts a victory when after the 13th round bell he pulverized Buchanan's balls. KB was a 15 rounder and had legs in the 13th. No real man does such an act and refuses a rematch. No real man finally admits to Buchanan 20 years later with buckets of tears- yeah he hurt him bad. A real man tells the world/ His face is so crazed after the nasty he is a crazed animal- aka stimulant imo. The next day they all saw the blow that required surgery but the ref would not change his opinion
It was all decided it was time to get rid of the hall of fame ken buchanan, who was never knocked out in his career
and replace with a Panamanian- yes- racism because of $$, I think the best thing would have been since fight one if Duran would have been tested for steroids and stimulants. In the KB fight he screamed at the champion when he wouldn't drop. After the cheatin blow KB would have been in Duran's quarter making certain he was ok- not duran- he had a predator's look of pleasure. If I get the money- get the tapes and hire 3 top stimulant doctors and see what they say.
@@duffgordon9005 you are full of shit
Apollo Creed is
@@giovannygonzalez7180 That cat is disturbed. There was no need of a rematch and everyone knew it...The fact that he only lost 1 of his next 71 fights at 135 pounds pretty much says it all, to say nothing of moving up 12 lbs after so many fights and becoming the only man to defeat Sugar Ray in Sugar's prime.
The fact that Ray made Duran wait a decade for the rubber match tells anyone with above room temperature IQ just how dangerous he felt Duran was
The world has No idea of where Roberto Duran grew up as I wittness it when I visited Panama and was taken to his old neighbor hood and I thought that I had it bad in growing up in Washington DC? No Comparison!!!!!!!!
I think Duran and Hagler epitomise everything truly incredible about the sport of boxing.
What a man Roberto Duran! Champion of Champions!
My favorite fighter by far!!!
he only has 1 wife,a true loving man, respect for him..
no disrespect.. i love Duran..but has had other kids and woman..
Yes he has 8 kids total, poppa was a rolling Stone , he claims woman always said they were using protection, what a life ! 3 outside of the marriage
He said WIFE. Do you all even know what a wife is? He's right. Roberto has only one.
@Sara Allison 9 total / 3 outside of his marriage I will send you the clip where he says it himself
@Sara Allison th-cam.com/video/n6_QK38iSRk/w-d-xo.html
and still my favorite boxer of all time. I grew up watching him. Other good boxers have come along but none that had the heart of Duran !!
No.1 is Charlie Zelenoff
You gotta be tough to become champion. You gotta be tougher to come back the way Duran did. Much respect for him.
Roberto Duran was a pugilistic/fighting/boxing warrior!
He is also an amazing humanitarian!
Salud!
Respect to a great warrior, and more so a great person that never forgot where he came from. I remember watching Duran fight as a child in Ireland.
The top 5 all time Roberto Manos e Piedra Duran, congratulation for you contribution to the boxing you are the greater boxer all time Senor.
No doubt one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. Won titles from lightweight to middleweight in the toughest eras in boxing. 70's n 80's. A tribute to boxing. Peace n smoke
People like to speak of him as a savage in the ring. Which he was. But this little man could box. Went 15 with hagler. Enough said. Peace n smoke.
makes me cry, true inspiration.
How can anyone thumbs down this great humble warrior ?.. Just saying
I was lucky enough to meet him in Glasgow. Both himself and Ken Buchanan shared a great meeting with their Scottish fans. Both great Guys 👍
The truly Great Roberto
What sets him Apart in the modern era is his longevity Now Champions get to 40 fights and hailed as gods Roberto rocked on to well over a hundred & thought some truly great men
The fighters fighter
Great doc, thanks for posting. Back in the good old days of boxing when the best fought the best.
Duran was a fantastic guy man.. his story is so great..I love the way he was such a savage in the ring.. they told guys not to look him in the eyes ..haha.. he was so mean his look could knock u out
What an outstanding documentary! I have a mountain of respect for Roberto "Hands of Stone, Heart of Gold" Duran!
Have nothing bad to say about Hands Of Stone, the guy bought a lot to the sport.
Damn right he did!
I had the privilege to play softball on Memorial Day 1981 against Roberto & his crew in Central Park New York. What a memorable experience such a regular guy .. Eventually a crowd formed realizing who was playing. Hint? It wasn’t me lol. He invited everyone who played to dinner at victors unfortunately I couldn’t go To my regret . Great memories though..
We all knew Duran and how tough he was.
A monster in the ring. A true champion. He deserves all that comes his way.
Duran hit the lowest point in his life against Leonard in the second fight. Sometimes in life you have to hit that spot in order to rise above the top and become the legend. Roberto Duran did just that a phoenix that Rose From the Ashes.
A great champion and human being.
God bless the hands of stone.
Hands of stone, heart of gold. Robin Hood of the poor. Roberto Duran, one of the best fighters who ever stepped in a ring.. Great documentary, and good to see his kids there.
Great Duran! I saw him fighting in the 80s so proud i watched him ...and i remember celebrating when hearns was knocked down by Hagler 'cause hearns treated bad Duran .
DURAN YOU ARE THE BEST!
Truly the best fighter to ever live.
@Head Hunter He was undoubtedly a great fighter but the best ever?
No way.
Sugar Ray Robinson is in a class of his own.
I agree. Roberto Duran. The greatest of all-time. World Champion in multiple weight classes.
@@stevenmendoza5621 Duran was outstanding but Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest fighter of all time.
He was simply on another level from everyone else.
I’m pretty sure that Cassius Clay is the best boxer to ever do it 🥊
DURAN, you are the best ever, the best in the whole world, of all times, i'm american and have always thought in general sense, that the best boxers in the world are either mexican or cuban... but you were a phenomenon, a monster, a perfectly built fighting machine. God bless you and thanks for all!
p.s. Screw you Don King!
Saludos desde Panamá
muy bueno el documental! exito y mucha vida a roberto duran!
Roberto Duran embodied everything i love about boxing. The guts, grit and the unstoppable desire to be on top. Also....this man was fully human and failed as a human. Yet...every single poll that has ever been drafted, place Roberto Duran in the top 10 greatest ever. He was flawed but he was real. Don King is a user....hard to take this man seriously.
I have him ranked as probably the best lightweight champ of all time ...... people reme, ber him from the 80s but in the 70s, this guys was a straight killer
The audio quality on this video is nothing short of EPIC!!! No idea how you were able to achieve such a clear sound!
the greatest fighter ever no doubt about that.
Chill
+Bryan Vazquez I don't think he's the best ever personally, but to suggest he is certainly isn't a ridiculous statement
@@PLayAshEFF72 No.1 is Charlie Zelenoff
The guy was so great!! You couldn't dream up a better story!!! Man oh man!!!
Still has the coolest nickname of all time
Roberto...a true Champion
i asked my grandfather who the greatest fighter was of all time aside of the heavyweights and he told me imo it's a tie ray robinson and duran
Tremendous fighter. Tremendous man. Hands of stone, with the heart of a champion.
The best lightweigh and the Greatest latin Boxer... Hands os Stone!
alkolicho no you wrong, the greates is JCC super star
100% right. Greatest Latino fighter ever
Both are wrong the greatest was Carlos Monzon
YALL WRONG GREATEST WAS SALVADOR SANCHEZ #1....ROBERTO DURAN #2....CARLOS MONZON #3...NICOLINO #4 CHAVEZ #5.
@@alanvazquez3312 no Chavez fought nothing but useless boxers
There were so many greats its hard to say he was the best. He was one of the best, I boxed and loved watching him and danny red lopez. Danny died the day I was fighting in the junior olympics.
win, losses or draw. duran still the best for me.
He had the biggest fan base in the world.Everyone from Panama to U.S.A To Here in Scotland Duran was the man that we all loved........Even though he punched a Scotsman in the nuts to win the lightweight title in 1972 we still respected him......
What an amazing and beautiful person as well as an exceptionally great fighter! All love and respect to "Mano de Peitro" Roberto Duran!!!!!!!!!!!!
My total respects, a legend.
I was so FORTUNATE TO BE OF AGE (roughly)5 YEARS YOUNGER THAN (THE GREAT) ROBERTO DURAN at that TIME in MY LIFE to WITNESS “THE LIVING LEGEND!!! JUST FEEL SO FORTUNATE !!! PERIOD…
One of the best ever
Without a doubt, one of the greatest
How could this "documentary" forget to mention that Duran defeated Sugar Ray Leonard for the Welterweight title during their first fight? Duran reached his peak when he moved up to the Welterweight division to defeat Sugar Ray Leonard.
Roberto Durán theeeee best regardless the number one ☝️ greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
juan campoy he's also Half Mexican as well
Duran would have been a hell of an MMA fighter.... Amazing fighter, boxer, definitely a GOAT. His best quality is his heart.
+bflo1000 that's the definition of a street fight. no rules... lol
love the classical guitar (Austrias leyenda) beautiful piece.
Duran=Lionheart. The ones that came up with the term "No Mas" should come up with a term for themselves called: "No Nunca" as they never done anything significant in life besides criticize legends.
