I’m taking Duran over any light weight today. Also blessings to Duran, I believe he’s sick with a current heart condition. May we wish him a speedy recovery!
@@amgfresh154Duran destroys Middle weights, even has power to hurt heavyweights and knock down a horse and has fought actual competition. Tank won't even be a blip on his radar.
Great video, his training was uncomplicated and basic, Run, rope, bag work and sparring, it’s all you really need..He may well of been unbeatable if he didn’t have the weight problem which was as much in his genes as life style our of the gym. I remember his win over Iran Barclay, me of the greatest come back fights ever. The greatest lightweight and inside fighter to lace a glove. Loved and admired over the world, hands of stone, Roberto Duran. 🥊
Duran was the best, people think he was an just animal and a tough guy but he was a super smart. No one last as long as he did just by being tough. Hope he recovers from health problems quickly. Great video !!
This is exactly the same with Tyson. People just see a brawler. They really lack understanding of boxing. Both were great at slipping punches just to get on the inside to deal heavy blows. People just don’t realize the technical skill to do that kind of stuff. Technical brawlers are amazing to watch.
Folks don’t realize how great Duran was. He jumps 2 weight classes after going 69-0 at lightweight and wiping out the division. Loses one fight at a catchweight then beats that guy twice beats leoanrd a younger bigger faster younger welterweight who as noted is number 1 p4p at the time. Then he loses to Hearns. Hearns gets stomped by Barkley twice and then Duran kicks Barkley’s ass. Loses to beneitez - another bigger younger faster guy with far fewer miles and as a massive underdog smashes top guys like Cuevas, Moore. Beat Barkley after Moore actually. Then as a long regining lightweight and after all those wars moves to 160 and pushes possibly the greatest middleweight of all time to the brink. Now what lightweight in the history of game goes 15 with Hagler and nearly beats him? How many lightweights in history beat Leonard? There is a very serious argument Duran is the GOAT.
People only look at 80s Duran when analyzing his legacy. Duran's prime was in the 70s, and we have very little footage of it. Prime Duran was a boxing machine.
@@charlesrazo7246 honestly from achievements I think Sam Langford and Harry Greb could've beat him since they also had a massive disadvantage, but yeah we didn't really know much about how they box in the older times,if we see Harry Greb and Sam Langford boxes their best enemies and compare it to Duran,Duran would've probably be picked as the more technical one,but I don't know,we only had description on those two's style, and despite Sam having two footages it's not really a clear fight, Harry Greb has none but you can see from his training footage and descriptiona.

I grew up in Southeast Asia, practice Muay Thai (muay matt) as my first art but was heavily influenced by boxers especially during the 80s. The four kings of boxing: Duran, hagler, hearns, and Leonard.
I tried to tell you boxing life duran is a great boxer to study and break down. Easily the greatest lightweight and one of the best P4p fighters of all time. Again loving your channel and keep doing your thing man.
Great work. I was born and raised in Panama. I often went to watch Duran training at the Marañon gym, in Panama City. In my opinion, the most impressive part of his training was the sound of his overhand right hand made hitting the heavy bag. One of his biggest motivations, I think, was to prove people wrong. Late in his career, he was more of a party harder- train harder athlete. I distinctively remember two occasions, when he was training for the second fight against Esteban De Jesus and the Wilfred Benitez fight. For the De Jesus second fight, he was doing shadow boxing saying that he even saw De Jesus in the soup; for the Benitez fight, I overheard Duran telling Panama Lewis that he would take easy that day. He knocked ‘el Vita’ de Jesus out in 11 , and lost in an unanimous decision to Wilfred.

It wasn’t until I was in my late 30’s that I began to realize just how much damage one inflicts upon themselves by consistently dropping 10 or more pounds in a matter of days, putting it back on, cutting it, ad nauseam. Duran and many of his contemporaries were the last of their breed, I’m thrilled that younger generations have the opportunity to witness some of the greats from the golden era of boxing.
Yamil Chade got Plomo to trian Wilfredo Gomez when he turned pro, explicitly to teach him how to walk the ring better, cut off the ring and stay off the ropes. He would cut off the ring, pressure and pound him. Duran was a master on the inside. And ring genralissm. At the lighter weights he was super fast, aggressive and strong. Duran would have none of his showboat and once he hit him , Floyd would know he was in a fight. Duran all the way.
Duran would not hit floyd,, floyd was just as good defensively on the inside. Floyd would out point him at worst. Floyd was also a big hitter at the lighter weights.
@derekvandenburg6689 I don't think so. Duran would have cut off the ring, crowded him and pounded him to the body. Don't forget Duran was great defensively. How do ypu explain a man who started if at 118 pounds fight a guy like Barkley who later fought at heavyweight, and winning. Defense is great, but Floyd would have had a guy who was great bith offensively and defensively. Flood could hurt Duran. Duran would have walked through and just sounded and box him. Yeah Duran could box too.
Him and Ali were my favorites’ Duran had a aura about him ‘ he had that look that was just intimidating’ as far as training ‘ he probably needed the breaks to enjoy himself ‘ but that’s harder to do when you get older ‘ and he was training just to lose weight to make the cut ‘ so he was weight drained for a lot of fights ‘ such as the hearns fight
Tell you a little secret... I met s Panamian trainer in Montréal that had trained as a young kid alongside Roberta, who was also a young kid. The heavy training was outside the gym. In fsct it was initially an elimination process to rid 90% of the potential students of that trainer. At the beach there was an elevated tree stump that they had to jump off performing a flip... Most got hurt. You mention his squatting while skipping like a Russian. In fact the trainer would point to a mountain and they all had to do a jumping duck walk to the top. He came up having nothing !!! When he finally got a few coins in his pocket , he would think to enjoy it !!! His world was a roller coaster ride of peaks & valleys / feast & famine !!! Many suffer this same reality !!!
I met Duran at the Wildcard boxing gym when he was preparing to fight Pepino cuevas , truly one of the greatest fighter. I always remember one thing he said , he said he was like a god Not that he's the Most High but a little god, not knowing that what he said was actually true; Psalms 82:6-7 [6]I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. [7]But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. Roberto Duran is an ISRAELITE, one of the Prince of Power of the 12 Tribes of Israel.
Maybe if he was able to eat all he wanted and this would give him more fuel and if he ended up a middleweight it would have been all muscle. That’s the nice thing about doing boxing training but not professionally is that you can eat all you want.
Yeah I think of that too, if they maybe just let move up in weight earlier, but I guess the bigger fights were from 147-154 in that moment of time. He did move up eventually to be fair!
It’s no surprise that he had a similar style and effectiveness to Rocky Marciano. Both of them were legendary & arguably the best at fighting on the inside, at their weight category, when they were fighting. The connection here is Ray Arcel.

[6]I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
[7]But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
Roberto Duran is an ISRAELITE, one of the Prince of Power of the 12 Tribes of Israel.
Roberto duran ❤
Maybe if he was able to eat all he wanted and this would give him more fuel and if he ended up a middleweight it would have been all muscle. That’s the nice thing about doing boxing training but not professionally is that you can eat all you want.
Yeah I think of that too, if they maybe just let move up in weight earlier, but I guess the bigger fights were from 147-154 in that moment of time. He did move up eventually to be fair!
One of my favourite fighters ever and i have a signed glove in a dome frame signed roberto duran manos de piedra which sits proudly on my wall
please do a julio cesar chavez workout
This guy was no joke. I don't understand why some people put him down.
It’s no surprise that he had a similar style and effectiveness to Rocky Marciano. Both of them were legendary & arguably the best at fighting on the inside, at their weight category, when they were fighting. The connection here is Ray Arcel.
Duran trained? This is news to me!
