I like how you still went to Sao Paulo where you got robbed the first time you went just to experience something unique looks like you overcame your fear of SP! The US and Brazil market was big with the American using 757s serving more smaller cities along with the big 2 (Sao Paulo and Rio) but once they left the market got SIGNIFICANTLY smaller only serving the big 2 nowadays but I can see the XLR changing that. Colombia on the other hand is much bigger probably from the bigger demand and shorter distance from the US. American alone operates to 6 cities with Delta and United only operating to 2 and 1 respectively (although UA is starting MDE service soon) It got so popular that AA through September 2021 and Spring 2022 starting sending Boeing 777-200ERs to Bogota 787-8s to Medellin and Cali from Miami, I was fortunate enough to travel to Cali during this time on the B788!
I know how you felt. During the Bears one and only Super Bowl winning season, they lost only one regular season game, against the Miami Dolphins. I was in a Ft. Lauderdale bar decked out in full Bears regalia for the game. Oh, Lord, did I get a boatload of grief from the local Dolphins fans. It truly sucked. 🤣
Some flight attendants set up your midflight snacks up front instead of on the counter at 2L/2R because, when placing them there for you, they get raided by Premium Economy. Glad you had a pretty nice flight and a great crew. That crew was likely very senior. Our charter operated from GRB to GRU was staffed by an ORD-based inflight crew with 52 to 60 years seniority among them. Each!
That actually makes a ton of sense… even if the presentation isn’t as fancy 🤷♂️. I also love that they put the Chicago ppl on the GRB flight with the major Bears Packers rivalry 😂
You mentioned the “Brazilian” rough air. I’m sure with all of your Trans-equator that it’s not just Brazil but anywhere in the world along the equator. Along with the turbulence cones some spectacular lightning shows-especially over the Pacific. Thanks for taking us along
Theres a reason the snacks arent placed at the bar you spoke of. We recognize that the snacks are for Business Class and by placing them at that spot, Main Cabin and Premium Economy would take them all. Also, flights after 9 pm get the one shot. Anything before that has a standard BC service you are use to. Lastly, PHL crews probably didnt have Portuguese speakers as it isnt a normal flight and because it was a charter flight would have no need for such.
@@farahbokhari4478 Question is was this an all English speaking customer base as it was a flight taking Americans to Brazil? If so, it wasn't necessary.
That makes a ton of sense about the snacks. As for Portuguese on board, it wasn’t limited to Americans. The lady in front of me was just flying back to Brazil (she flew up to Boston through Miami) so there was definitely Brazilians that just happened to be on the flight
Those Bang & Olufsen headphones start at $599 a pop. they have to be collected, repacked, and inventoried. Some flights have 72 to count. Then they are locked and sealed in their assigned carts prior to landing. Panasonic comes on board and takes them off at the arrival city and replaced with new headset carts for the intl outbound. American only provides them as an amenity to FC/BC international and Premium trancon. American has nothing to do in handling them. so the crew has to have them ready prior to landing. All while preparing the galleys and cabins for arrival.
Latam is technically Chilean, headquartered in Santiago, Chile. The original LAN Chile, which took over TAM Brasil possesses the majority of their shares.
I think PHL deserves a nonstop flight to Tokyo (Narita). I mean, just like Boston, a nonstop PHL-NRT route could be a catalyst for other nonstop international flights out of Philly, including Hong Kong, Amman, Taipei, Abu Dhabi, etc. Even Hainan (Airlines) could have nonstop flights out of Philly towards both Beijing and Shanghai.
I enjoyed the video, especially the examination of PHL for American at the end. DCA was too a US Airways hub and American actually flies DCA-YYZ, so its "international" too. 😉
Thank you Patrick for your trip here. The dinner meal looked nice on this flight. The cabin area right behind your Business Class that could have been a snack area but I guess having the lighting on and passengers possibly standing in that probably creats noise for those passengers seating right behind in Premium Economy. That is one way of looking at that. Other than that, I am glad you went down fir the game! And I have enjoyed fly down there to San Paulo, BR from Chicago on 777s from my former airline.
Always love your videos Patrick, also love the NFL which we have had in the UK on TV since the 80's in a limited way, and which I now have a subscription for and have had for a few years. My teams are the Lions and the Falcons in no particular order, and for two completely different reasons. Fun fact - there are about 70 men's teams playing in the UK which are split into two conferences, so not everyone is hating on it and the games' popularity has increased for sure since we have had the games which are played in London. As for American Airlines, the jury is still out on them. Much love to you from Yorkshire, look forward to your videos every week ❤
Great video as always, Patrick. I'd love to see more "one-off" flights for fun stuff like this. The MLB could absolutely do this when they play in Mexico and England.
100% although honestly most of those routes are already served. The London series this year was NY vs. Philly… teams that already have London service. Same with Mexico being SD
In the last 10 days i've flown long haul Turkish, ITA and Iberia, the food offered by AA beat two of those, take a guess who had the best food and when it comes down to it, whole product.
Yo bro, you planning on coming back here in the Philippines? Air France is inaugurating a Paris to Manila flight with their a350 hope you can review it 😊.
Looks like you got a Safran Concept D seat by the way they are also found on B777-223/ER fleets. Looking at your seat it turns out it's the airbag Style seat up you're missing a 3-point belt. By the way your crew are Brazilians/Chilean former Latam or moved from Brazil to US. Even rare Japanese/Taiwanese/Filipino/South Korean AA flight attendants. If you have to choose between SFO-EWR-GRU Star Alliance UA Skyteam Alliance DL SFO-JFK-GRU and Oneworld Alliance AA/AS SFO-PHL-GRU which one is going to be your pick? The first choice if you couldn't make EWR-SFO from GRU-EWR the good news is United Airlines has two South American Partners Panama Copa and the Colombian Avianca which means if GRU-EWR is missed you're going to do via PTY CM or AV. Which means entry to the United States is San Francisco alternatively UA GRU-IAH-SFO.
Why you like Dr pepper softdrink? You don't sleep on the plane, even though it's a 9 hour red eye flight to Sao Paulo or how many hours did you sleep on the plane? I wish they have window inside the lavatory.
What a difference in food from American's ECONOPOOR to the EXECURICH! The food in the Economy is very very bad, one of the worst I've eaten! Thanks for sharing and welcome to my town and my Corinthians's arena, Mr. Shea!
Phoenix, Charlotte and Philadelphia...yes, in all of my years flying American post-merger, there was a common denominator among those three hubs yet I couldn't put my finger on it. And now you nailed it! And I think the smallest Admirals Club I've been in was at PHX. Makes that one you went to at PHL look like a cathedral LOL!
PHL had the QR DOH flight for 9 years until AA decided to swap with PHL. I don't think that PHL-DOH is all connecting passengers on the domestic side. Even with the B6 NEA ended, AA could have double down on JFK just didn't dedicate enough resources to JFK either because of slots or pilot shortage. AA had the opportunity to turn PHL into a focus city and make JFK the main hub. Right now, PHL is a slow growing city it is not JFK and not EWR. But it does have a sizeable metro area. So is ATL, DTW, DFW, IAH. All fortress hubs and somewhat known internationally. Anyways GO BIRDS! Yes we are jerks
I guess we gotta see how it works out 🤷♂️ I just don’t think it has the same recognition. I mean even Europeans that end up on the Dallas flights (or ATL/DTW) are transiting usually to other places. NY is just more of a destination for global travelers
Since this was a one-time deal, how did you and the others on the flight learn of it? I am an old guy who has been flying since the age of 4. It may be rose-colored glasses syndrome, but I remember flying being so much more unique. It has been dumbed down over the last two decades, but then I suspect the sparkle has dimmed for the flight attendants having to deal with so much idiocy. Or perhaps greed is intruding into the experience. Nonetheless, it was a very well-presented review. Thanks.
Wouldn't Charlotte seem to have the same problem you described with Philadelphia (not enough O&D passengers)? If not why is it different? Do you see Philadelphia and/or Charlotte getting a nonstop flight to Asia in the future, especially with Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific being part of the One World Alliance?
You probably received tray service due to the time of departure. If it was after 9:00 PM it only aids in speeding things up to allow for passengers wishing to sleep or work. Otherwise, you’re looking at up to an hour and a half of a drawn out meal service after dessert.
Would note that the DOJ actually blocked a United/US Airways merger pre-GFC; otherwise, United might have ended up in the same boat as American (competing with LCCs instead of Legacies)
Surprised you didn't fly back via Qatar or Dubai, then you'd really have noticed the difference. Sao Paulo to DXB, with EK, quick trip to Doha, then Doha to Philadelphia direct, you would really have seen the massive quality difference. It would take a bit longer though LOL
I appreciate your reviews, thanks! I must say, however, I would prefer flying any carrier other than a US carrier internationally and that is really sad! Have a great day!

Your information is quite accurate. However, AA has committed to PHL as their main Trans-Atlantic hub. They will keep JFK mainly for origin traffic.
Good to know. I’m curious how it will work out long term for them and how many routes JFK will keep
