      I'm an airline pilot and still loathe LGA even after the upgrades. It's still every bit as crowded, I've already seen bits of ceiling tiles falling, and leaks in some places. Airside, it's every bit as chaotic if not worse. We'll have gate holds of 4 hours going into LGA even in a perfectly clear VFR day. There's a reason for why almost every US airline with hubs in the NYC airports are their most junior bases for crews: they all suck

    To be fair about this all 6 airports are working together to coordinate traffic witch is ripe for delays compared an area that has say two major airports for the TRACON to handle. If one of the 6 airports has issues it spills over to the others. Also with commercial air travel delays are part of the game with unforeseen issues that one can not control. Like weather and mechanical issues. Now let's say Chicago has weather delays with flights to NYC. That will cause delays to the arrivals to NYC. Do we blame the NYC airports for weather in Chicago ? So comparing 6 airports in the NYC area to perhaps 2 in another city is no comparable. Complex system with many moving parts and when one fails it has a ripple effect.

      One of my first projects in my career was to help review the Air Quality and Environmental Noise Impact sections of the Airtrain Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and associated technical reports as part of the PANYNJ project management team. The original project linked JFK and LGA to Jamaica Center and from there to Manhattan. This allowed both airport passengers to go to Jamaica station (a hub for the LIRR, several subway lines, and bus lines) or to continue to Manhattan. There were some subalternatives/options for different number of stops in Manhattan Due to budgetary limitations (aka how much they can convince the Feds to fund), only the JFK to Jamaica Center was built.

    If only they'd get rid of LaGuardia I swear I hate that airport with a passion, but you gotta admit NYC's Airports did show the other major airports what not to do for the most part except you BWI and MIA. You both know what you did

  • @edflaherty1887
    @edflaherty1887 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The subway from Manhattan give you a straight shot to JFK or the LIRR with get you there with perhaps one transfer . The Path train from Manhattan can get you to Newark also. Just do your homework and get a plan going . It's easy to avoid all of this and take taxis. The problem is it's costly and can take a long time . La Guardia is a problem. The trains and subway will get you close , but the you need a bus to finish the trip. It's been thought of for years but the politicians trip over their own feet ! Let's not cloud the issue with common sense here.!

    Sometimes your just better off moving to a new greenfield site & putting ALL the infrastructure in before you build the airport. Build a fast train into the city. You could have it 50 miles away & a fast train will get into the city in 15 minutes. How do you pay for that? Sell the old airports off when your done.

    • @h8GW
      @h8GW 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only if the train is very cheap or free, otherwise everyone who knows someone with a car will have someone drive them to and from the airport, and It'll be a HUGE waste of gas(probably tolls, too) if the airport is really far out of the metro area.

      Actually, it's propaganda against the Port Authority as it tries to make a case for privatization, rather than improving the service. Go to Travelocity and type in New York. Click on New York, New York. It corrects to "New York (and vicinity)" So while yes, Newark is in all those cities, counties and state you listed, Newark has been and always will be, in the court of public opinion, a New York City airport. When you have three so close together, who cares? Someone should tell you about the London airports... London Luton is in Luton, London Stansted is in Stansted, London Gatwick is the second busiest UK airport and it's 45 miles away from London Heathrow, which is itself, not in "London". 😂

      They said at the begining that all three airports (plus some smaller ones) mainly (but not exclusively) "serve" NYC.
      The entire population of NJ is just over 9 million. NYC alone is 8 million.
      Philadelphia International (PHL) probably serves a good chunk of the other end of NJ.
      Interestingly enough, my wife's cousin and her daughter can to visit NYC. The daughter is looking to get an MBA at Columbia U. They flew into Newark because it was cheaper.
