Thanks for checking out the video, these are just some of my opinions, so please don’t get offended. Please let me know some of your experiences, thanks for watching and keep it Blue Collar!
Great video! I might add that a plus for crossbow is that usually when you're skilled enough or your gear is good enough, you can confidently take much further shots with a crossbow.
When I was younger, I used to spend numerous hours shooting my bows. It was my favorite hobby. Then I had a horseback accident that dislocated my right shoulder. I am totally healed but I am not able to pull more than 35 pounds anymore. My compounds are 65-70 pound draw. Even with 65% let-off, I'm not able to hold at a draw for more than a couple seconds. I really missed bow hunting. So, I got a crossbow. It isn't quite the same as hunting with a compound but it's close enough for this old dude. I have a 30# recurve that I shoot at the range for pure enjoyment but it isn't powerful enough to hunt with. 1 other crossbow perc is that if you are strong enough to cock it, you have enough power to hunt with.
I use both. During the early season all the way up to gun season I'll shoot my Mathews Triax. Once gun season starts, and the shooting starts, the deer seem to become much more skittish and jumping the string and making bad shots really comes to life. That's when I'll drag out my Ten Point M1 turbo crossbow. As you said, deer usually don't jump the string because the crossbow is a good bit faster that a bow and it's a lot less movement while using the crossbow as well. Every once in a blue moon, I'll have a deer figure me out or i'll come across a monster towards the very end of the season and that's when its 270wsm time!
Would love to get together with an archery club in my area and shoot compound--but in a hunting scenario, I'd much rather wound my pride than wound an animal.
What you said about movement and deer makes a lot of sense. With a compound bow the deer has to be really stupid to watch you there pulling back the string. You have to pretend to the deer like you are just doing some exercises and it really should not be bothered with it. Kind of like a slow and lazy pull and if that does not get it startled than you still have to equate into the equation the fact that arrow from the compound bow flys longer than from the crossbow and if the deer is more than 50 yards away from you than you may miss the target if it jumps fast enough!
Good vid , the Crank Cock crossbows are becoming more popular this year 2024 and the price is dropping on the high powered crossbows , its starting to lean heavier towards crossbows being the better choice I bought a Barnett 380 xp with the crank pre-installed the thing is an absolute beast and ridiculously accurate all the time.
@@RYTHMICRIOT it's still relatively new maybe 50 or 60 shots fired , no problems. follow a few simple rules they give you in the manual and it should be fine. lube the strings not the servings , lube the rail , never dry fire it and be careful how you handle and store it . pretty much common sense stuff
I made the same mistake. Compounds bows are more fun to shoot, but when the spartacus ego wears off the cross bow is the clear winner. Compounds have the disadvantage of taking up a lot of room to draw. In some stands you dont' have enough room to pull the string back. You will have to buy a climbing stand without the gun rest. You may have to buy larger, more expensive ground blinds to accommodate the room that you need to draw. Cross bows unlike compounds don't have to be tailored to the shooter making them easier to lend and borrow.
I have an old excalibur crossbow and that thing is just a brute and shoots through everything. I can aim at the shoulder just like I would with a rifle (with my setup I shoot at around 30 yards) and with a decent broadside shot the deer is usually dead within 40-70 yards. I still try to shoot a little behind the shoulder so that I can reuse the bolt&broadhead but it has enough power to just shoot through the bones. I recently saw a bowhunting video and that bow seemed to perform like kindergarten compared to my crossbow (and mine is old I am sure there even better ones out there). I think it would depend a little n your setup but I would think that a bow has absolutely no chance against a crossbow. I mean a bow is still a lot better than a spear but.. I use the crossbow because it is quiet (I dont like the load gun shot) but I also like being closer to the animals.
I usually have to condition myself by shooting the compound all summer to keep from hurting my shoulder. I have mainly switched to the crossbow because I just don’t have time practice with the compound.
You should check out the FMA Engineering Supersonic Rev Basic despite its ultra-compact size, it has a draw weight of 120 lbs and generates bolt speeds of more than 420 fps / 460 km/h (depending on the bolt used). This makes it suitable for shooting distances of up to 60m. Pulling string back is 40lb to engage the bow string great for survival. And it's pistol size!
Great man, having a normal bow is great for all around having fun and just about anything else. I’ve even rabbit, and groundhog hunted with a compound and it is super fun. Good luck man and enjoy.
Both are cheating, what ever happend to sharpening a stick you find in the woods with a rock or your teeth and throw it like a spear? And people call using compound bows and crossbows hunting both are cheating
@@roguejku6000 yup sure did bro, think you read me answer wrong, but i did word it kind of bad (was drinkin). I was refering to the people that call compound and crossbow hunters cheaters, when they themselves dont hunt with sticks and rocks like our ancestors did so they cant judge the compound and crossbow hunters. Anyway hunters need to stick together and not judge how one hunts or think only one way is the right way to hunt. I respect all forms of hunting to fill the freezer aslong as it is legal to preserve the sport and keep populations in check.
And I bet you get most your stuff from a grocery store huh! Just cause it doesn't work for you. Doesn't mean others are cheating when it works for them.
The compound in not that challenging. Yes more than a crossbow but super easy compared to a longbow or recurve. You want a challenge pick up a traditional bow.
I used both there’s nothing wrong with the two of them everybody has different taste but I get it there’s always going to be Karen’s in any sport or hobby!

Very helpful video thank you! I’m trying to decide which one to buy. The answer obviously is both. One for hunting the other for fun.

Very comprehensive video, lots to think about
Great video and points on each option

Great video comparison!

What about rope/limb breakage?

There is competitive shooting for guns too, would that not apply to crossbows as well?
There's fewer people to compete against and fewer competitive events

Take a shot of whisky every time this guy says “competitive edge.”
Hunted with a compound bow for years but my shoulders just can’t handle it so I hunt with the crossbow.

@@bluecollaroutdoors5556 you don't have time to fire a few shots every week? I shoot 3 arrows everyday takes 5 minutes

I will watch that one
Very helpful. Thanks man
Awesome Video! I have a compound bow that I use for target practice. but i am going to buy a crossbow not that I'm going hunting this season.
Thank you!
The missions by Mathew’s are Mathew’s technology but for working class people like a more affordable price
Great video!
Nice I’m getting my first bow soon but I’m getting a normal bow

The one that is better is the one that you like the best.
what crossbow is this??
Barnett whitetail hunter str

Hunting rifles are cheating
Daaaaam😂
Crossbows are Ambidextrous hunting bows are not and when your left handed that matters
Funfact: that Crossbow is a Compound as well 🤡

the real art in bow shooting is longbow and recurve
