    Yes it is up to the individual. We should remember not so many years ago that traditional bow hunters where saying the same things about those who chose the new compound bow. We are all in this together and should be supporting each others choice because if we don't eventually someone will try to take it all away. Keep the shots close no matter what you choose, don't take stupid shots with either one.

    Good discussion. In the 70's when I started we used traditional bows. Then compounds came out and the same arguments are being used about crossbows. Anyone can shoot it etc. People forget that recurve cross bows predate compound bows by about 1000 years. So it is the compound bow that is the modern weapon. With all the anti hunting attacks we must join together as deer hunters regardless of what legal method you choose to harvest game with.

    Excellent video, great job explaining. I use both, since crossbows aren't allowed everywhere I hunt, but when I have a choice, it's the crossbow every time. It's more consistent and hunting accurate out to 50 yards, faster, less movement, can shoot sitting down & less string jumping. I have no problem with the compound & when I hunt with mine, it's easier to carry, light, better for longer walks and easier to maneuver up in the tree. By the way, I still miss sometimes even with a crossbow, and with a gun too but thankfully, it's not that often.

    Justin. Thank you for this video. You explained exactly what people need to know. I just started shooting a crossbow last year. I haven’t compound bow hunted for 20 years and felt the crossbow would be more like shooting my rifle. The first thing I noticed was the weight difference. Then noticed how much more difficult it was to push through thick cover with a crossbow. Also fell it is harder to steady a crossbow do to weight. Keep up the good videos and let’s all have a great time in the woods this fall.

I find it more challenging to hunt on the ground now with a crafted ghillie leaf suit. I literally took a page from these air soft guys like kicking mustang in Europe. I have had deer walk as close as 10 feet from me. It’s a adrenaline rush! I couldn’t get away with multiple shots with my bow. But this crossbow!😂😂😂😂 so much fun. The first deer I killed with this set up was 10 yards away. I wasn’t behind no cover. I literally looked like a bush ! The crafted leafy ghillie suit is where it’s at!

    Great video. Another thing to note... Never understood why any of the anti-crossbow guys think you have to draw back on a deer and make the shot even more challenging. Just because a person using a crossbow doesn't have to draw on a deer doesn't make him less of a hunter. I hunt with a crossbow and my setups are no more than 40 yards max distance to shoot at a deer. If I'm good enough hunter to get within that distance of a mature whitetail then that's truly saying something about my hunting skills not whether I drew on the buck or not.

    It depends. The crossbow was a major advancement to bows in the middle ages that holds true to today. The cross bow is a point and shoot weapon. In midievil times any shmuck could pick it up and use it. In a pinch a castle could grab farmers or peasants to help defend thanks to the accuracy and ease of point and shoot. The speed of the bolt is also a lot faster than a bow. That being said it has a major drawback. It is extremely slow to load. It also takes a lot more strength to draw the crossbow into position. That being said a bow or a compound bow in this case is a quick fire weapon easier to draw and easier to maneuver with. The drawback is it takes time to master.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF ANY SOUNDS YOUR HEARING CAUSE LIMBS WILL BLOW UP AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN TAKE THE PROPER SAFETY OF WHERE YOUR FAMILY AND GOOD FRIENDS ARE STANDING WHILE SHOOTING. SO WE CAN ALL HAVE A SAFE HUNTING STARTING BY CHECKING YOUR WEAPON OF CHOICE TO HUNT WITH

    Well one of them isn't legal for bowhunting in many places so that makes a pretty clear cut winner to me.
    As far as range and killing efficiency it obviously goes to the crossbows. An untrained shooter can hit a baseball at 50 yards with a crossbow with a little practice. Takes a lot of work to do that with a compound.

    The high performance crossbows have more power and range. The crossbow can shoot arrow further before arrow drops. The scope on crossbow is Easyer to learn

    Another huge point for the compound is that you cannot decock a crossbow. Once drawn you have to shoot the arrow

      We're using TightSpot quivers as well. They're pretty adjustable, so I would assume you're probably okay. Plus, they sell a conversion bracket which can move the quiver further from your sight and rest.

    I started out with a compound when I was 12, I switched to a crossbow when I was 20. I had less time to practice so the crossbow made sense and I been using one for the last 8 years. The crossbow still requires practice,but 20 bolts before the season is usually enough with one . Compared to 40 arrows monthly to keep sharp enough to hunt.

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost all crossbows have an anti dry-fire mechanism, so they can't be fired without the arrow fully seated into the string. That protects you from anything happening while you're putting the arrow in or taking it out. It seems scary at first, but just like any weapon, with proper handling and safety protocols, you'll be fine.

      @Bowfella 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cool, and I'd like you to take those wheels, plunger, whisker biscuit, release aid, peep sight, pin sights off and shoot a bow cut before center and tell me about who "crossbows should be limited to". Anyone with a basic grasp at back tension, bow stance, and drawing the bow can hunt with a compound. It takes 90% of the variables out of archery. I run circles around guys with compounds all the time with my crossbow and it's NOT because of what I use. I've taken deer with recurve but I choose to use a crossbow, not because I'm injured or weak, but because I'm HUNTING for an ethical kill, not target shooting, jerking myself off, or proving something.

    • @bowhunter9655
      @bowhunter9655 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mihajlo525 so your saying you walking circles around guys with compounds has nothing to do with having a scope. You probably use a damn rest too. Crossbows are meant for elderly, youth or handicapped. So many keyboard warriors on this topic. I'll shoot against your croosgun any day. Ps crossbows are for pussies

    My compound bow is accurate (in my hands) out to 50 yards on inanimate targets. On deer, 35 yards is my effective range. Any farther & the animal’s reaction time and my skill level are limiting factors. My bow shoots 275 FPS on chrono. I can shoot one pin from zero to 20 yards & I need two more for ranges from 25 yards to 35 yards. The crossbows I’m looking at shoot around 400fps, so logic would dictate I could set a single sight reference with a crossbow scope & be accurate from zero to ??? yards. How far could I shoot at a game animal with a crossbow/scope combo & still hit in the vitals?

    The Mathews is 330 but not really, with a hunting weight arrow your down near 300, 305.
    The Ravin R20 for instance is 430 with a 400gr. Arrow.

    As an archer that got to experience the birth of the solocam and the tune free era of compound archery, I have noticed that compound bows today seem to need to be tuned all the time, replace OEM strings, 1000’s of dollars of accessories, gear, gear, gear!! My 17 year old did not want to get involved in this constant tuning world. Just too complex and takes the mystique of just shooting and hitting the target. Marketing, greed, and the gear driven focus has spoiled the pleasure of archery. I am not talking about the already “sucked in” twenty something, or the 40 year old that can now afford a $2500 bow setup. They both have become the barometer of this sport. I would love to see young folks not want to pickup the $3500 crossbow. They see ease over the “super tuning” the compound user has to do now to feel like they are doing it right. I am just saying what I see. I have a Mathews MQ1 that I bought new and spent less than $1000 on a normal pin sight, flipper rest, stabilizer, quiver, arrows, tips, release, and case. Still shoots perfect accurate groups and all I have done is wax the string every year. I think this scenario is what the archery industry is trying to stop so they can just make more money.

    For me it’s the experience of using a compound bow it’s more surreal. if I could just walk around the woods with a ghillie suit on and a knife that would be next best thing. crossbow is cool but I feel like at that point I would rather just grab a bolt action

    Shooting a deer with a crossbow looking thru the scope at 10-15 yards you will get busted trying to find your target. This negates the pulling the string back arguement. The compound bow can be more accurate than crossbows at 30-40 yds when freestand shooting not using a bench or rest. Not every crossbow hunter is using a tripod or rest when hunting. Bow season is bow season. No need for separate bow seasons. Let every hunter select their bow of choice. Longbow, recurve, compound, crossbow. Hunting is about management of the herd foremost. When your tag is filled your done. How its harvested is secondary and really doesnt matter. I use crossbow, compound, and recurve - pros and cons to all.

      Haha you will not get busted trying to find an animal through your scope, that's such a tiny movement, not only that you can literally watch a deer walk in from your scope to any distance. Crossbows mimic a gun a heck of a lot more than they mimic a bow that's why they belong in gun season. Let me ask you this what type of hunting does this sound like. "I spot a deer 100 yards away coming straight towards me I raise up my weapon and look at him through my scope coming in to 80 yards now. I don't have to move a muscle as the deer keeps coming. I then with the slightest of movement click my safety off and pull the trigger. Sounds like gun or crossbow to me!!! Now what does this sound like, I see a deer 100 yards away, coming straight towards me I grab my weapon and stay as still as can be, the deer gets within 30 yards and stops behind a tree and I use this opportunity to pull back my bow and wait for him to step out from the tree. I get fatigued as I've had my bow pulled back for what seems like forever so I have to risk more movement and let down. Now my muscles are very fatigued. The deer finally walks out from the tree so I try to pull back again mid draw the deer looks right at me. He finally looks away and I draw the rest of the way and take aim and execute a very hard shot with how hard I'm shaking. Sounds like it could be either recurve long bow or compound to me. All things you would never have to worry about with a crossbow or a gun and that's not even an extreme example.

    Honestly anyone can shoot a crossbow but what it really comes down to is if you can pursue a situation with a bow and can hit your target!!!because honestly it comes down to this...if you don't have it, that's just how it goes,find something better that fits your profile...it's easy to shoot a crossbow but primitive hunting comes down to that also...no matter a crossbow/bow it's a very more respective sport where people who use firearms that has a say of what you do...mind you I've used guns myself my family has many...but there's no challenge of using a gun that there is using a bow or cross bow stalking your animal...thats honestly a whole different animal and know one can say shit unless they picked one up themselves and shot one and tried.

    Where I'm from you can hunt big game with a 40# recurve or compound bow, but the law requires your crossbow to be 150# for big and small game, is there any logical reason for this or should I just assume whoever wrote these laws have no idea what their talking about?

    I think that a crossbow can be slightly more accurate, because you can use a bipod or shooting bags. I think this makes a pretty big difference, but, frankly, you would rarely hunt with a bipod. You could steady your crossbow on the rail of your tree stand. Personally, i am a bit biased towards crossbows, just cause i own one.

    Both are great weapons both are great yes the crossbow takes less to learn properly however the range is better with a standard bow however you shouldn’t go past 50 yards on a live animal anyways. But you can with a vertical bow because you can get a second shot off in a second while it takes a minute to re load the crossbow unless it’s the twin strike lol. I would say they are a complete draw.

    Scorpyd released a crossbow that goes 480fps (I have the 460fps model) but I carry my barebow recurve for backpacking. Crossbows are easier and more efficient no doubt about that. But any jackoff that says crossbows aren't archery should take the plunger, peep sight, pin sights, whisker biscuit, release aid, and wheels off their compound if they want to be judgemental. Because you can still get good groups at 20 yards with terrible form. Anyone with a basic grasp at drawing, anchor points, and back tension can hunt with a compound. But you know what? It doesn't matter what you shoot because you're HUNTING not target shooting. I'd take a guy with a sharp stick that knows trails and the animal they hunt over some olympic compound guy any day. If what you're shooting launches sticks with a string then it's ARCHERY.

    I grew up in state where the regulations/law were that unless you couldn’t pull it back due to health/age you shot a bow. I think maybe b/c of that it’s still ingrained in me. If you’re able to pull a bow back I think you need to shoot a bow. If I see a 20yr old shooting a XBow I can’t help but to internally roll my eyes and think he probable sits down when he pees too.

    The crossbow is too heavy, it should build lighter bow like 4 or 5lbs. The Ravin or tenpoint are heavier than a rifle and it's too slow and too noisy when cocking. The mini vertical crossbow are very light, faster and alot quieter.
