- Some days ago when we posted Mikko Kataja´s Toyota Starlet 4AGE video and explained he finished 3rd in his Class, some people commented how fast the other two guys have had to be. Well, one of those guys is Andy Heindrichs, and you can watch here how the young Belgian used his 222Hp/730Kg Opel Corsa A to achieve the 2nd Place on the E1-1600 Class in Wolsfeld HillClimb 2019.
Although not the most powerful machine in this Class, it is driven to the absolute limit and counts with a number of quite unique solution, with the most proeminet being the use of a BMW S1000RR motorbike Engine head with the original Opel 1.6L block to make for quite the high.revving machine (and quite good sounding too to boot...).
Apart from that,, weighing in at 730Kg, it is certainly a light Hot Hatch, and one that will certainly evolve thorugh this 2019 Season while being driven like a maniac... As you can certainly confirm with the Onboard footage provided...

Ah, fond memories of my Nan's 1986 C reg Vauxhall Nova Merit. Clocked out twice, went from UK to Switzerland and back twice....was still going strong up until the day she lent it to her granddaughter, who ran it into the ground, blew the engine and finally left it to rot in a field.
That little car was a damn trooper, still miss it today.

I was wondering how the fuck they mated a 1000cc head to a 1600cc block until I checked the bore for both, they're almost the same
I am not surprised. Bmw k1000 head on a 1300cc mini bottomend. Read about this over 20 yrs ago.
@@speedpower2740 Yeah but its not only the bore diameter but the bore spacing, its impressive to say the least. Was a VW recently on here with a busa head on its vW1,6l bottom end as well!

Over here you see them a lot in rally cross events. Cheap and reliable. If you see one slide through a corner almost rolling ... corsa driver. Don't think they ever lift off.

Always been a fan of Euro hot hatches but they arent as common in the us i like how Euro hatchbacks can keep the weight down which increases the fun factor. Great build like how it sounds.
Honestly.. . You are missing out in the US.
One of these with a tuned 2.0 xe in it and it would kill most US big power cars on a tight track.
The handling is untouchable with the right set up and they weight under a ton.
Even with a motorbike engine it's fast as fu&#.

A lightweight, fwd, 4cylinder hatch with 150 + bhp on a twisty road or track is so much more fun than drag racing V8s.
On our roads American cars are pretty much useless if you wanna enjoy driving.
It's all about going fast round corners.
Look up Jean ragnotti in his clio Williams..that's how you have fun in a hatchback.
Or any other 90s rally stages.

No one else notice the video has been sped up, not by a lot. Actually its only been sped up by very little, But when it comes to motorsport, a tenth of a second every 10 seconds is big deal.

how do you adapt a bmw 1000cc chain driven dohc cylinder head to an opel 1600cc belt driven sohc cylinder block?
bore diameter and bore spacing are same, everything else is "easy"

The cylinder head, from a chain driven 1000cc motorbike engine adapted to an old 1,6 l opel engine block, which propably was belt driven? That sounds like an unnessesary step to make the 220 hp the original s1000rr engine makes in the first place?
Add to that he's shifting sequintually, which suggest it's the transmission from the s1000rr.
It seems more likely it's the complete engine and transmission from the bmw s1000rr, adapted to the original opel engine and transmission mounts.

220hp seems very good for a 1.6l naturally aspirated...do you disagree? if he adds turbo he wiil be racing against the 2.0 liters thats the rules

You definitely need skills to be able to drive that beast!
Not really he missed downshifting at around 1:10 and then the up shift straight afterwards and a couple more times after that again still put in a good time.
Great footage as always, super mean car 🔥 ... I think if they spaced out the back wheels he'd have better cornering ability, he was on one back wheel in the hairpin!

I've commented this before, I will say it again. I find it easier to follow a run if the exterior and onboard shots are presented separately and continuously. The cuts between the two make the run hard to follow.
I prefer this layout, can see how doing 1 or the other might create more dissatisfied customers 'just my opinion'
@@kevinu6004 I'm not saying separate videos, but separated footage. Such as run the outside shots first, the onboard shot second. Something like that. Especially in the case of the onboard it makes things easier to follow.

Why not just use a corsa 16v engine
222 naturally aspirated horses would be difficult out of the x16xe...would need massive compression ratio, wouldnt rev up so high, maybe weigh more..etc

It's a motorcycle engine so of course it only makes power way high in the rev range.
