    The handle being our direct interface point is absolutely a huge determining factor in the feel, or the "reel experience" if you will. Not crazy, I couldn't agree more.

    Waiting anxiously for the stradic/ Daiwa head to head. I love my Shimano spinners, but I loved the bg at its price point as well. Love how Daiwa and Shimano are trading blows right now.

    LOL! Loved the sidecut on the ball bearing wars!! I'm totally with you on the amount of play on reel handles being a pet peeve - it's the whole reason why I now own a Daiwa Tatula baitcaster and not the KastKing Royal Legend Elite. I had ordered the KK RLE first at about a third the cost of the Tatula, after seeing all the great "reviews" online (I'm sure most were sponsored) and fished with it for about a week. The lateral side-play on the reel handle, in addition to the overall noisiness and sharp ridges on the reel became increasingly noticeable after a few outings. I'm usually always on the lookout for a good deal, but in this situation I really did get what I paid for. I was hoping the Daiwa spinning reels were just as good as their baitcasters but it seems they forgot about the reel handles....

    If this dude built his own reel I would buy it for sure. He’s really picky about little things which I understand if your really into it. That’s why I know if he did make his own reel it would be perfect

    Awhile back I purchased from Cabelas a few Arachnid Spinning reels. They appear to possibly be Tatula's. I checked out the handles and knobs, I find no play, and these were much less expensive that a Tatula, and have performed magnificently. Unfortunately since BassPro has acquired the Cabela's name, these are no longer available.

    I found this out by accident , ultra thin shims are daiwa part B41-1706 (two shims are one part #). Order 10 of them ($5 shipped) and look real close once you get them...they are actually 2 different sizes , mix and match the ones you need.

    Absolutely on about handles. I am going thru a phase of changing out most of my bait casting Handles to round knob handles.They need to be tight and fast turning.Picked up a $45 buck chuck Korean made reel for fun. it stated it was made with new German bulletproof technology plastic., took it apart and had 8 bearings that needed oil,casts further than my Abu's and Diawas.Ran it over several times with my truck and threw it against brick wall. WTF , it still casts like new after replacing bent handleLOL.

I know you mentioned at the end of the video what you thought it might be. Just wanted to double check before I ordered one ( or the wrong one). Also any advice on replacing it? Never done it before I am not a mechanical wizard. =(

    How is the Exceller compare to the Epixor, I really hesitate between these
    For the Daiwa, the only thing that scared me of buying one is the flex on the stem and handle, which is a known issue for the low en LT series
    For the Epixor, the gears are probably not as good as the Daiwa, and sometimes, they really feels like hit or miss.
    Thanks

      @@TackleAdvisors I noticed on the daiwa fuego lt page they say its 6 bearings plus 1 roller bearing, but when I looked at mine it's a bushing not a bearing. So ya they have mistakes on their page.

    Man I can't believe I didn't comment on this video when it came out! My number 1 pet peeve- sloppy handle knobs- drives me nuts! How am I supposed to stay in tune with what my lure is doing when my contact point with the reel is feeling "clink, slop, clink, slop"? Even more annoying than loosey goosey hex handles cause the wonky little 3mm screw always comes loose!
    BTW I revisited this vid cause I found a list for best budget freshwater reels which lists the Tatula LT #1 and the BG at #2 which got me all ready to drop some coin on another Daiwa BUT then I looked at street price-$50 more for Tatula LT= what's your opinion on that price swing vs performance?

    bearings in the handle is fine and dandy and all, but real differences
    in spinning gear is line roller upgrades and drag assembly upgrades... handle bearings make it feel great , but it does next to nothing performance wise...

      Over the years I must have saidhow pointless bb handle knobs are.....100 times....but when a reel is as refined as some as these.....you only feel that knock in the handle knob...so it's likedamn....so friggin close!!

    besides bearing microgear contributes to gear smoothness but only when crank vigorously. the mm gear got more contact and balance to reduce vibration at hi speed. when u crank slowly bigger gear teeth is actually smoother than mm gearing. mm gear snake oil is partially true. not challenging yr wisdom but share opinion. u r great reel guy. not just great but super dude.

    This is defiantly getting into the nitpicking realm imo. However I still stand by I prefer a bushing rather than a bearing in BOTH the handle knob and the line roller. I never understood why people would complain about a bushing in the line roller. For us saltwater guys that thing is always the first to go.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sup man! It is and it isn't....When its the only thing you feel on a buttery smooth reel...it stands out. LIne rollers suck...bushing or bearing...Daiwa bushings get squeaky and bind....Shimano's bearings get crunchy and loud. I grease mine in saltwater...so they don't spin free but last 10x longer.
      For my use I wold never use this size spinner in the salt....I start at 15 ounce sized reels....And with heavy rods and reels knob slop isn't noticed...On the light stuff and freshwater....I think the bearing upgrade would be a worthwhile upgrade. And I seldom ever say that about handle knob bearings.

    I must be lucky, my hand doesn't move in and out as I reel and dont feel it.
    I also feel the Pflueger President is one of the best bargains out there but know I will get laughed at by people that have to somehow justify spending hundreds of dollars on fishing reels.
    The most money I have ever spent on a reel was a Penn Special Senator 112H.
    Also have a Peen 309 I took the level wind off of.
    Simple, strong and very castable.
    But have picked up the fancy reels and set them back down.
    Not gonna take the bait.
    Love your tear downs and reviews, it substantiates what I have always known.
    They add 10 dollars worth of parts and add hundreds to the price.
    With today's CNC technology and made over seas by slave labor there simply is no excuse for it.

    I like this video
    I have a daiwa tatula baistcaster and noticed the same small amount of play and bought bearings, swapped out the bushings, which took care of that slight little wiggle
    It was a tiny annoyance..but made a big difference to me, just my opinion. I’m a big fan of daiwa reels but that little audible click from the play did bother me
    Considering getting an inshore spinning reel and gold to know I would need to get bearings if I don’t want that play

    I guess it's a matter of preference... Working in a machine shop that deals with certain tollerances I can see both sides of th coin.. Too tight could cause lockup with slightest amount of trash.. Too loose could cause a fumble in retrieve action... But personally I'd just shim to fit my needs.. Again.. Personal preference.. So to each their own.. Good vid.. Keep them lines tight.. Peace ✌

    Bearings in the handle knob will almost always corrode and become an issue before a bushing only design due to being closer to elements and dirt ECT. I feel that Daiwa moved backwards with their lt series. There is no substitute for metal. I feel that the lt equals lite and twistie. The hard bodyz were the ticket for gear alignment. I bought a excelor lt and I can wobble it easily on it main frame with my hand. The excelor exe was a far sturdier reel as it was built on metal

    • @bullyakker
      @bullyakker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just grabbed i THINK an older exceler to replace a reel I (in a rush) left on the roof of the vehicle and drove away for an emergency at home. No LT, NO exe (but it looks identical to the exe). It's got some heft but i THINK it's carbon fibers mixed into the graphite? It has no flex, tolerances are great, 4+1 BB, pretty smooth.. only quibble would be the handle is a stick in and put the screw in from the other side.. THAT has a bit of play though not terribly. For $69 from a local bait shop. well worth it and I didn't help a Cabela's/BassPro CEO buy another yacht.

      Just your opinion on which might be better at the price point. Both nice reels obviously... I will be using them to fish jigs for Walleye. I picked up a pair of the Ballistic LT's today but was curious what you thought of the gears/drag on the LT vs the Ci4+. I can always go swap out to the Ci4+ I just thought the LT felt smoother. I want the better option between the 2 for longevity as I plan on having them for many years. Most expensive reels I've owned so I''m paranoid I made the wrong decision haha. I originally picked up 4 Stradic FK's because I liked the aluminum body better but 3 of the 4 had something wrong with them believe it or not... bad bearings, ect. I will fish 1/8-7/8 oz jigs if that has any impact on the decision. I fish from a boat mostly on a deep reservoir fishing mostly from 2ft - 50ft.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! I'm diggin the Tatula....The lack of any seals makes it spin very lightly. I dig that! But after fishing sealed stellas for 2 years with no maintenance....I can see where the ballistics sealing would really keep em running like new for longer than the tatula. Between the two..ask yourself would rubber seals guarding the sidpelate bearings and spool shaft and mag seal at the ar clutch benefit how you fish? With the negative being the slightest bit of sluggishness (barely noticeable unless you fish side by side with a tatula lt or stradic ci4) And if you self service. working with the magnetic disc (which is simple but different)

    Funny how the most important factors like "feel" of the reel are lost in translation from engineers, supply chains, and manufacturers. I assume their too busy keeping up with industry/marketing trends to realize that at the end of the day these reels are being fished for hours on end , not being shelf pieces. Honestly the mechanics of drag force and material durability have probably peaked. The only realms that can be improved upon would be tolerances and durability, both come into play when determining feel of the reel. My old Shakespeare surf and pier 10+ year old spinner can haul in trevallies just as effective as my Modified Sahara, and just as reliable. One of them feels like I'm trying to autocross a minivan, while the other is like using a sports car. You can probably finish the race with either , but honestly you know which one would be a more enjoyable user experience.

    So im thinking of upgrading my current reel (shimano sahara 500fi, 275g) to a daiwa fuego 1000lt (280g), my rod is a westin w3 streetstick 2-7g 6ft/183cm that i use for almost everything, i have it spooled up with 0.08mm braid, about 8-9lb line for you Americans.
    I was wondering if anyone who has a fuego that fishes for perch could tell me their thoughts on the specific reel.

    Fished my tatula LT 2500dxh for about 20 hours + on a handful of freshwater trips hooking on 10+ 3-7 Kg Pacus over a month and the reel starts to feel rougher (can feel the gear grind on the downstroke) when reeling compared when I 1st got it (really smooth with no detectable grinding) . Is this normal from your experience?

    This is just reality. Those reels are not something handmade. It's a not a Vertu phone. This minor adjustments could be done by user or even better at a decent service centre. A thin washer will get the problem solved. As you said the tuning handle costs more than any of those reels. If that the only problem reels have Daiwa's done a great job.
    I have another problem. I don't like standard knobs, pay about 50 for a tuning ones

      Point is it's sloppy. 500$ reels aren't hand made either. I didn't say it in the video...but one of the things I believe all companies do is purposely give slippy handle knobs....And really shim it up nicely for the flagship reels...otherwise you wouldn't feel the difference.. I like the video. But for me personally play in the handle knobs isn't a big issue. As an add on to other comments about how handle knobs "feel" I am a firm believer that it's the job of your rod to "feel" what your bait and fish is doing and guiding the fish where you want it. Your reel is only to get the line out farther and get it in quicker. But hey to each their own.

  • @marcopugliese7284
    @marcopugliese7284 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I find the issue with the Daiwa spinners are the bails. I’ve lost tons of plugs buck tails etc. because of the bail not clicking open or closed. It also makes them feel plasticy and cheap. Sticking with shimano and penn for this reason

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'd been a long while since I plugged with any daiwas other than an emblem pro or saltiga surf. Never had an issue with them..Nor have I had any with the saltiga (though braid does hang on the drag nob if not careful even when manually closing the bail.) These new LT's have an intersting closure sound....like a baseball popping a catchers mitt. They're solid on the open.....Qustion..do you rotate your rotor until it touches the trip ramp prior to casting? Doing that willl prevent the handle from gaining any momentum to prematurely trip the bail....That trick will safe a ton of pluggage!!

    • @stevethompson7064
      @stevethompson7064 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marco Pugliese ...i've found the same problem with my Daiwa Caldia. I reckon at least 5 out of 10 casts the ball arm flicks over dury the cast. I've also lost heaps of jigs because of this problem. Do you know of any way to fix this problem. I have other Daiwa reels and it's only the Caldia that does it.

    • @stevethompson7064
      @stevethompson7064 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do rotate the rotor most of the time, not always though. Why is it only my Caldia that trips though? I have a BG and an older TD Advantage and neither of them trip. I'm at the point now where i'll only use floating lures with the Caldia so that when it does trip and if it does snap I can get my lure back.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't seen all of the sizes. But how does an AR switch create wind knots. Wind knots happen wither from poor line lay or user error. If the reel didn't have infinite anti reverse... Kinda like old spin fishers. I guess the in between lever could increase the possibility of a wind knot.. But that's not the case on any current spinner
