      @Hooked In the UK the anti-reverse is a must! backwinding is common relying on the drag is unreliable at times it can cause fish loss. Your far more in control! I stopped buying Shimano's due to the fact they dropped the anti-reverse option. Never had any issues with water entering via the switch over bad weather conditions.

    Great reviews, thank you for uploading.
    I like that you talk about start up resistance of these spinning reels.......many spinners are high gear ratio and hard to turn, they just don't feel as smooth. This concerns me greatly as I worm fish for bass in the States and start and stop the reel constantly.
    Also, I think one reason the Daiwa reels are smoother is because they use two bearings on the pinion gear (Abu and Pflueger do also)....... many other manufacturers do not. Lately I've been using a Pflueger Patriarch.
    The only thing that worries me about the $100.00 and down Daiwa LT reels is the lack of line roller bearing. I wonder if that would contribute to performance and line twist problems?
    Bushings might be ok if they were metal like in the knob - but usually bushings in modern reels these days means plastic - and I think those are a big mistake....prone to quick wear and lots of maintenance. What do you think?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Legalis LT is still in top shape, and I used it more than any other reel while panfishing this year. Check my crappie ninja video, and my bluegill videos. I never had problem with the line rollers on the LT reels. You have to be careful with the word 'Plastic'. Zaion is plastic. CI4+ is plastic. 13Fishing made a new reel without bearings, just plastic bushings. It casts better than most reels with bearings. Plastic today is very different that what it was 10 years ago. And all plastic bushing have one major advantage over metals - they do not rust. This is the reason plastic is often preferred over metal alternatives. I think the Legalis LT is a gem that the fishing community never discovered. It is really more pleasant to fish than the $200 Ballistic and Tatula.
      On Shimano reels, all reels starting from Sahara have 2 bearings on the pinion. Sedona and lower do not. But sahara is pretty cheap. My single most watched video is my video on the shimano Sahara. I recommend you check it. Thanks for watching! Please share my channel with brothers in tackle!

      Ultralight fishing under 100$ - Daiwa has no competition from any brand. Shimano has incredible high end reels, but has NOTHING under 100. All of this Sahara, Sedona, Nasci stuff is heavy like a rock. They are great solid reels, but more fore bass fishing and even bottom fishing. Just too heavy for UL fishing

    I know you love this reel but i got 2 of the revros lt and i really like them but i was wondering if its worth upgrading to this one in the future. Do you know the differences? Can you make a review on the revros lt in the future. From what i saw online i think the revros lt is one of the best budget reels around.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do u mean the new Revros LT? There is only one difference between the Revros LT and Legalis LT. In the Revros they removed one of the bearings on the pinion gear and replaced it with bushing, to save 10 dollars. I don't like that. That is a very important bearing. However i have to say that when i test them in the store both reels feel the same to me. I think when brand new the bushing is just as smooth as the bearing, and the difference will show later. The Revros will lose smoothness sooner. I recommend the legalis over the revros, its worth the extra 10 bucks because it also looks nicer. But if you already got the revros - it is silly to change reels just for one bearing.

    I ordered a legalis 2500 lt after seeing your review. When it arrived, I noticed the drag sound is almost non-existent. If I hold it next to me ear, I can just barely hear it. It doesn't sound at all like my exceler. I looked into shipping it back, but it's going to cost too much to make it worth doing. Is there any way to adjust the sound on it?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The drag sound mechanism of Legalis and Exceller is one and the same. If they don't sound the same, something is not right inside. However this particular drag sound mechanism is extremely durable, there is just nothing to break, because it runs inside the spool. It is possible that your spool is not all the way down. I would remove both spools on the two reels, and compare the drag clicker setup inside.

    Victor I have one question what parts of the real do you apply Grease 2 and what parts do you apply oil to?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      grease goes only on the teeth of the gears - main gear, pinion gear and locomotive gear. Also a little bit on the main shaft. Oil on all bearings. The rest of the reel should be dry, otherwise will collect dirt.
      If u disassemble the spool, u need to put special drag grease on the carbon disks. Felt disks are hard to tell. Sometimes its oil, not grease. Good thing is it doesn't really matter what u do with the drag disks, just don't put much

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      start putting line on your spool. When u get half way - stop. Inspect the line lay. If the line is perfect - you got lucky. If there is a gap where the line doesn't reach the spool on one side, but on the other side of the spool there is a small bulge because of too much line - your spool is not seated properly and needs to be shimmed with these plastic shims. If the gap is on top - you need one of the plastic shims. The plastic shims are of different thickness. Try to put a shim that is as thick as your gap.
      If the gap is on the bottom of the spool - you need to remove the spool and take out one of the plastic shims that are already there.

Daiwa told me it is removable but the customer service rep didn't seem very confident in what they were talking about. Mine feels like it has slop and some grit so i wanted to get it off to inspect @@ifishcatfish

      @wstewart5532 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i_fish I finally removed it. It pops off easy if you pry down between the silver cap and the rubber. The knob still does not come off - no screw. I did remove a thin c-clip between the knob and handle a\but that did not release it to remove. It just seems to be there to take up play. Apparently my knob just has too much play if others aren’t having this issue. Mine is the LT1000 size. It is very annoying as I hear it constantly and just reminds me poor fit. The Daiwa rep I spoke to said I could send it in for warranty service but mine doesn’t seem broken, just poor quality control.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ben anthony patrick this reel is already super light, same weight as stradic ci4+ of same size. I dont like 1000 size reels because the spool is too small and the line is curly and u cant cast far because of spool drag and curly line. Not worth the saved few grams. If you use cheap line, 2-4 lb is ok. If u use fluoro, u can do 6 lb. The diameter should be between 0.16 and 0.20 mm. Braid doesnt cast super light weights well and its not smooth and has high wind drag and thats a problem with ul weights. Thanks for stopping by

    Nice vid i_fish. Just wondering if the main gear is machined aluminium after all? It looks like it’s a cast zinc gear in the video. I know they have a machined aluminium gear in the the more expensive reels of the lt series

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis Wilson to myknowledge there is no difference in the gears of exceller and ballistic for example, or anything released in that batch. Daiwa has exact same text describing the gears of both reels ‘precision machined and polished’. If course i could be wrong but daiwa has the same description and i dont have anything else to suggest otherwise. The more expensive reels add bearings, screw un handle, magseal as well as a full range if other seals, but the digigear used is the same. Shimano uses the same approach in my findings- same hagane gears in cheap sahara and stradic ci4+ and even, believe it or not, in the nee shimano exsence ci4+. Only exotic reels have special surface treatments. My opinion and findings in my own reels, not official vendor position.

    • @traviswilson2634
      @traviswilson2634 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i_fish thanks for the reply. Daiwa actually uses a cast zinc main gear (zinc or zinc alloy) on their lower tier reels, has been for a long time. You can see the casting marks on the main gear in your video (the letters and numbers on the flat spot just inside the gear teeth), which indicates it cant be machined, it has to be cast. The legalis, exceler (and I assume the fuego) have this gearing. Daiwa's been using a cast zinc gear on their lower tier reels for a while now. Mid tier reels use a machined aluminium gear (7075 billet) like what's in the ballistic, caldia, td sol, certate etc. Saltigas, morethan branzino have the stronger bronze alloy. I wouldn't pay much attention to the marketing jargon daiwa uses to describe their gears, they're inconsistent in how they label their products and alot of the people and sales reps who work for daiwa couldn't tell you what's inside their reels. Also, cast zinc looks distinctively different to machined aluminium. The gear you're holding in your hand at 3:04 is cast zinc. It's cheaper and not as durable.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      very interesting. I have the caldia, and I also have daiwa Vadel, both of which are magsealed, and I had to open them more than once to search for squeaks, but I could never tell the difference in gear material with these here. I want to learn how to identify these myself. Can you point me to a good article on the topic? Maybe I will open both of them again and compare.

    • @traviswilson2634
      @traviswilson2634 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i_fish one way to tell is the letters and numbers on the cast gear, theres no way they could be reproduced that way via any machining process, had to be a casting mold. All cast gears from daiwa I've seen have these. Also the appearance of cast zinc is a dull grey, and alot of the time you can see swirls, the finish isn't as uniform. On a machined aluminum gear, the metal will be bright and shiny, no swirls just a completely uniform finish, they even feel different. If you compare both gears side by side the difference is much more obvious. You'll know. Have a look at a video of a ballistic lt that's been dissassembled and you can see what the machined aluminium gear looks like, the difference can be seen viewing a video on a computer screen.

    What do you think of the size 1000 legalis lt, is it too small for anything other than true ultralight?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, it is a TRUE ultralight. What do you need it for?
      Legalis LT is the best ultralight reel on the market, and if u need the 1000, get it, but you should consider the 2500. It weighs the same as a shimano stradic CI4+, which weighs nothing. I love ultralights but today there is no point of using a 1000 size reel, and get your line curly as a pig tail because of the small spool. The Legalis LT is so super light, that 2500 is what I would start with. That said, even the 2500 is not a good bass reel because of the soft frame. I caught a 10 lb carp with it and it wasnt a problem, and occasional bass will be fine, but it is not suited for that much stress regularly. If u want a reel in that price range that will sustain stress, look at the shimano sahara (i have great video on it)

      @@ifishcatfishMan, many thanks for the reply! This is actually interesting, as it would be for finesse bass fishing with 8# mono for the moment. I am looking to upgrade a Daiwa Crossfire 2000, that i bought on clearance for my first reel - I didn't know much at all when I first started fishing. The Crossfire is really bulky and heavy for a low performer, so I figured anything would be better than that. So, not even a 2500?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      its a bad idea for bass fishing, because of the severe hook sets that you guys use. The LT reels are made of really thin and soft plastic, that will flex on the hooksets. When it flexes, the gears get out of alignment just a little bit. Sahara is equally smooth and finesse, but made of much thicker and stronger plastic, and does not flex. But unfortunately that makes it heavier, and I do not like it for ultralights. I don't know, if you are gentle and use a soft rod, so the tip absorbs some of the stress... and don't fish very often... maybe. But bass folks usually use super stiff rods, trying to set the hook, which is horrible for finesse reels. U have to make the call. You will LOVE the Legalis LT , but only in the first 3 months. Then with more bass fishing it will start feeling rougher. Sahara will be heavier, but will last longer to bass fishing.
      All other brands are junk right now. Dont tell anyone i said that, but nothing compares to these two reels. (from other brands)

I have the Daiwa legalis, regal and exceler and a Lew's Xfinity combo that retails the same for the whole combo as those daiwa reels and quite honestly it's smoother, there's less play in the handle the drag has that satisfying reverberating sound and as far as I can tell it seems to cast farther. The only downside is it's much heavier but for the price it feels substantially better.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have reviewed a couple of lews baitcasters. Their baitcasters are pretty decent, but the spinning reels are terrible. In my opinion even the most expensive $300 Lews spinning reel is inferior to a daiwa Legalis, at least for Ultralight fishing. If you are a bass angler and you talk about the bigger sizes... everything is heavier and finesse is not so easy to notice. But Lew's don't have any reels at any price that feel as good as Legalis. All Lews reels are heavy, have a lot of resistance, and heavy inertia. Also the rotors are slightly out of balance and when u spin them fast they don't feel as dead as a daiwa.

I am sure it is still a smooth reel, but if you will fish finesse, with ultralight rod, for perch, rud, that kind of stuff, i would get the new LT models. So much lighter and the gears are upgraded as well. If u plan on holding this in your hand all day long... this is just too heavy. My UL reels are 100 grams lighter than this.
