    Thanks again for your informative videos. My husband and I plan on doing Camino French way in August 2026. Coming from Canada we want a couple night in SJPP and 4 days in Santiago and hit Paris on the way back home for 10. So we’ll be away from home about 47 days, so just waiting for his retirement, so excited to start

    Hi, in the morning I was watching TH-cam videos of the Camino and realized that I met you on the Camino. I was already thinking about the name "Fast hiker" because you really took huge steps. I checked in my diary, we met between San Nicolas and Carrion de los Condes. I wrote in my diary about him: "...I walked a little with a Swedish man, he dictated a very fast speed. He said he was making TH-cam videos and had a camera in his hand. He was two meters tall and with big steps. After saying goodbye to slow down a bit, after a few minutes there was only a dot on the horizon...". Gratulation, your video is very professional, I feel like I'm back on the way when I watch it.😊

    Terrific pilgrims breakfast: pain au chocolate, orange juice, and a banana - (at least that was my favorite - summer of 2019). Buen Camino!

    I feel your pain with the heat I worked in Kandahar airfield in afganastan in 2008 2009 and 2010 as a heavy equipment mechanic for the military we had to endure temps of 54c . It was not fun I'm thinking of doing the way with my wife maybe this fall but not during the hot temps . I am enjoying following your journey

    Re your Altra shoes.
    I know people who have used the Lone Peaks and have managed to walk the Frances in them.
    I use them for local walks.
    For me, the best Altras for long distance hikes are the Olympus 5s.
    They remain comfortable and are more long lasting and durable than the Lone Peaks.
    Last September I completed the Frances followed straight after by completing the Ingles.
    No blisters or any other foot issues and still plenty of wear left in the shoes.
    I have used Olympus 4s and 5s for my last five Caminos and have bought a pair of 5s in order to walk the Camino Fonseca starting on May the 1st.

    • @Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker
      @Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, I’m happy the shoes works for you and for the advice regarding Olympus. Is Olympus also a non drop shoe? And did you use one size bigger than your feet?
      Sometimes I think the large size is the main problem for worn out the inside back of the shoe.

    • @harrykey2448
      @harrykey2448 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Further to the Altra shoes.
      Like you I have wide forefoot but narrow ankles.
      I always use a runners knot with my Altras.
      This locks your heel in place thus stopping rubbing.Also stops your foot sliding forward when going downhill.
      I recommend you to wear Injinji inner liner Cargo toe socks under a pair of lightweight Merino wool socks.
      I have used this combination for years and never get blisters.
      I am 75 years old and walked my first Camino Frances back in 2007.
      My last advice to you is to stop being the fast hiker and settle for being the Swedish hiker...enjoy yourself more. It's not a race.
      In 2007 I walked the Frances in 25 days.
      Last year I did it in 34 and enjoyed it much more.

    • @harrykey2448
      @harrykey2448 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the Olympus is also a zero-drop shoe.
      They have much more support than the Lone Peaks and they feel like you are walking in carpet slippers.
      The soles are much thicker and have stone guards so you do not feel stones when walking.
      Yes I wear a size bigger for long hikes . It's amazing just how much your feet swell after a days walking.
      Lastly, even though I double sock my feet still do not sweat in the Olympus shoes.
      The ventilation really works well.

    Thank you so much for these videos. I've watched lots of Camino videos and I love the way you show the walk. I can almost imagine myself on the trails. You mentioned your hip hurting and said you'd take care of it when you get to the alburgue. How will you do that? I suffer with hip pain and I wouldn't mind a tip or two. I'm planning on walking the Camino in 2027 when I'm 70 years old.

    • @Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker
      @Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi 👋🏻thanks 😃 regarding the hip, I believe in movement exercises of muscles and joints. For example, when I walk for a long time. Then I burden the body for a long time and in a similar way, which easily means that my muscles have to work with a high load, for a long time, in one way. It is easy for them to become overloaded. Then I use movement exercises and move muscles and joints in other ways, under relatively light load, to get rid of for ex.
      lactic acid. It makes my muscles relax.
      I would like to add that I constantly listen to my body and what it is signaling so that I don't push it too much. for example, it is ok that I get soreness from training but not that it hurts.
      This is my personal way of dealing with this, I have no medical training so this should only be taken as an example of my personal experience and choice.
      I liked, for example, this channel here on TH-cam

      Thanks 🙏😃 I didn't book any accommodation in advance. I simply went in at an albergue I passed .
      Within the EU, I do not need a new SIM card. If you come from a country outside the EU, you should check with your telephone company what applies to call/data in France/Spain/Portugal. There are many places (cafes/accommodations/restaurants) that have Wifi that you can use if you use their service.

Plan on putting together something from that trip. It will be 4-5months of walking though, so I think I will have to have a hard drive for that amount of gigabytes. The last two years I've walked the Norwegian 'St. Olavs way' from Larvik to Trondheim and 'Hærvejen' through Denmark. Have you walked the German pilgrim paths?
