I just found your channel 3 or 4 days ago and finished watching your 2022 movies (parts 1-5) Then I found that you and your wife are back! I was listening to your commentary on part 1. You mentioned you didn't feel right in the first Albergue you stayed - the one you previously stayed and loved. I wonder if that's because you had not been walking and you just weren't in "pilgrim" mode yet. I understand that there were only 3 there and the emptiness it presented. Just wondering. Sometimes it's hard to revisit places because we go with an expectation and it might not be met resulting in disappointment. I'm really enjoying your vids and truly appreciate the time and effort you put into them. I'm looking forward to this new series you're sharing with us. Albeit late - Buen Camino!

@@jaynetabb6835 I think you "found" the reason. I probably had too high expectations and carried a picture of something I wanted to show and had told about. And suddenly the reality was something else. It happened several times during our hike. You know, the Camino, teaches us different things, maybe not what we expect to learn. This time I was taught not to have preconceived notions about people and things. 😃 I’m happy you like my videos 😃🙏👌🏼

Too much salt 😂😂 I’ve just returned from the Camino and didn’t budget , it was an impulsive trip. No idea how much I actually spent. I will definitely make a budget for my next Camino !! Gear : made do with regular clothes, bought backpack and shoes/sandals online right before. Those Hokas are ugly but no blisters 👍 Had to buy a long sleeved top and poncho during the walk (September) From late September onwards clothes don’t dry anymore so budget euros for tumble dryers !!! We also did the tour through the Monastery which was very good, one of the largest and biggest Galician Monasteries still in operation, 6th century!! Shoes! Shoes are such a personal experience and choice and yet a topic of much judgement. “Do you see the shoes they were wearing. I would never wear those on a Camino!” People who have a good experience with a certain shoe seem to feel that they should tell everyone THAT is the shoe for everyone. Same with trekking poles. It’s strange to me that people who love them assume that everyone will love them and tell everyone they should use them, when, in fact, it too, is a personal decision. And let’s not even discuss rainwear! lol! I enjoy your videos and the way you share your experiences along the Camino. We were deeply challenged on our 2019 Camino Portugues by the rain and the flooded trails and the detours and the wet feet, but we look back fondly on it and as retirement approaches are talking about more long-distance walking; perhaps in Norway on St. Olaf’s Way in a couple of years. Buen Camino!

Why don't you (or at least Camilla) use hiking poles? That would help take away some of the strain from the legs and feet. Helinox brand poles are very lightweight. Also, Balega brand socks are good for preventing blisters. And Hoka Speedgoats are very cushioned and comfortable for walking in (although the treads wear down quickly.)

    • @Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker

First, thanks for your advice. 👍🙏 As for myself, I have enough things in my hand when filming and I don't like the "tick tack" from the poles. 😀 They also make a lot of noise when filming too. Camilla will perhaps try to have poles in the future, for her balance and relief for legs and feet, especially on the downhill runs. We will look at the brands you recommended. 😀👍 Again, thank you! 🙏

My wife and I walked The Way from Porto, Portugal to Santiago in 2019. With “retirement” from regular work getting closer, I think our next walk will be either St. Olav’s way or the Camino Nortes. I love the idea of the Frances but it became so crowded, I think that would detract from the experience. I also plan to do the Lagevegur Hike in Iceland after retirement. Aside from editing your Camino videos, how do you keep busy in the Fall?

@@stevefoster1511 Hello, Thanks for asking, I think it's a good question. I really had to think 🤔 before I answered. First. Editing takes a lot of time for me, I'm not as good as others, I don't have the latest technology ( difficult with sound, different cameras and so on) and it's a hobby, like this week I edited 17 minutes of footage in three days and I'm only half way there. 😃 TH-cam is one thing, filming is another and when English is not my native language, it's a bit difficult too. And reaching out is also difficult. There are so many films about the Camino these days. So why do I continue? I had a plan to be successful and make some money but I've realized it's not going to happen but anyway I'm going to make some films to process my own experience and I also really enjoy the contact with you guys who continue to watch my films and can I help someone … 😀😃 Im also happy for all your questions and comments. Now, your main question. Besides TH-cam, I still work a few hours a week, I spend time with friends and family and I actually hike a lot in the surroundings and nature. If possible, I also fish. I have discovered that being older includes taking care of your body. Long answer but it is what it is. Early retirement is also a goal for me.

@@Per-Ola_a_camino_hiker Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Editing! It is a monster isn’t it? I don’t consider myself very good at it either and simply try to learn as much as I can and do one small thing different in each video to grow my skill set and confidence level. When I look back on some of my early videos, it serves as a wonderful reminder to me that my skills have, in fact, improved (a LOT in some cases). I’ve also found that I shoot differently now that I think more about editing. Boy when I started I pushed record and I got SO footage. Unfortunately there was not much I ended up using because I wasn’t shooting with purpose. I have one big advantage though in that at work, I have a full-time, professional videographer who works for me. He has been a tremendous resource and has kickstarted my learning and my skills big time. It’s so nice to have someone to call when you run into a problem. As far as monetization of my TH-cam channel. I no longer harbor any real fantasy of that happening. There are just so many people that are so much better than me that produce so much more content than me. Perhaps after I retire and get lucky with something that appeals to us Gray Hairs, I’ll have a change of heart. I do hope you’ll keep creating. I enjoy your down to earth approach and your content is helpful. I hope you get to retire early as you mentioned. The term “retirement” means so much more than it used to. We’ll see how I feel here in a few months and whether or not I go back. Lots to consider. Thanks again. Been Camino!

I waited for you to arrive at Foncebadon as it was our starting point for the Camino. We chose Foncebadon because we wanted to experience the Cruz de Ferro. Now your journey is allowing me to relive my memory. i am so pleased.... thank you for recording this journey.

Do you pay any money to participate in Camino Walk?

@@anthonynwanokwale6324Hi, I'm not sure I understand the question correctly? We do not travel through any travel agency, but arrange everything ourselves. The pilgrim pass itself only costs a small amount of money, then you have the cost of food and accommodation which varies from person to person.
