- Camino de Santiago de Compostela - the Portuguese route.
Just over 6 years ago, in 2017, we started our nomadic wanderlust and our first Camino. Fast forward today, 2023 - Kathy and myself are joined by Sandy, a long time, dear Australian friend, on a journey starting in Porto, Portugal and ultimately ending in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
From Porto we were taken aback by the beauty of the Coastal route. Then, on our second day in, we crossed over to the Central route - all the way to Santiago.
Hope you get inspired and enjoy our pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
Great video. We walked exactly the same route in April 2024. It’s unforgettable!!!
Thank you.
Love your Post: We returned home here in Hawaii from our Portuguese Camino experience a couple days ago....What and amazing experience, We'll be back!
Thanks for that.We found that one Camino is not enough. We have managed three.
Wow - BEST Camino video I've watched to date. So well done - congratulations and thanks for sharing. Proud to be an Aussie and to share your adventure online.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing. So many adventures during the last 6 years! what a life experience. Congratulations. xxx
Thanks Karin.

Nice job, love the music. I'm leaning towards this route, thinking I'll get tired of the beach route.
Great stuff mate! Heading on the Portuguese Camino in September and your video is a great help as well as being entertaining.
Thanks
I am planning to do the walk with friends. I would like to learn more about Casa Fernanda?
It was truly a wonderful experience with the whole family. Most of her intentions as a host are expressed in my video. It is worth noting she has become very popular and I would try to book your bed as soon as possible. Buen Camino.
Well done Vic.
Thanks Cindy

Loved your video. We are wondering what to do now that we have finished the Frances. We watched one vid on the Portuguese and it showed lots of road walking and often without footpaths. Your video showed none of that and looked beautiful. You both did the coastal for a day and cut across to the traditional.
We had given up on the Portuguese but you have put it back on the agenda.
Did you encounter much road walking through traffic ?
Thanks for the comments ,much appreciated. We encountered a bit on our second day when we crossed over from the coastal. Afterwards occasionally but nothing too long or with the thought this could be dangerous. Hope that helps.

Could you please share the route guide do you use for this Camino? Thank you
Your video makes the first two days look straightforward and reasonably nice but many people have posted videos of this trip complaining that the start of the camino de Portugues is dull, with a lot of noise and traffic. I like the route you chose. What is your honest opinion of the first two days?
Thanks for the comments.I enjoyed those days, however they say walking close to the airport is uninteresting. We then cut across to the central route as I thought it would be more cultural as we live near the coast in Australia
Hey Vic! How timely! I am doing this same route starting on September 23rd. Weather advice??
We did it in April and only 2 days of short rain.Mornings where cool.September should be much warmer. Be flexible, if the weather turns bad and you don't want to go on stay there. We met some of our now camino family on such an occasion.
What's the terrain like ? Is there any steep climbs?
No major inclines we found it much easier than the first few days out of St Jean Pied de Port in France on the French route.
How long did it take and how much did you spend?
It took a total of 14 days to reach Santiago with an additional 2 days relaxing in Tui Spain.Costs are a bit more difficult to explain. As there were 3 of us we decided to have private rooms as well as albergues.
Which one is your favourite route?
There all different and I enjoyed them all.
Don't people camp on this hike..every video I see....its hotels and hostels
They do, however we travel full time and can not carry camping equipment.
What time of year did you do this walk. Love your video
Start of May ,thanks for the comments.
