I was at the one and only game he played that preseason. Everyone (because it was Jacksonville, I was working at the game) had his jersey. And he didn’t do well. Like, at all. But people went nuts for him.

I was with Mel Kiper, Tebow was a terrible QB who willed wins at the last minute. Many of the last minute receptions were acrobatic feats by Demaryius Thomas because the ball sailed or behind him. Why were they close enough to clutch it out? Great Defense, who's play got overshadowed by the Tebow mania.

He wasn’t the most talented, but he may have been one of the best role models and the best leader. It’s hard to tell how much his leadership made an impact, but I firmly believe without him at the helm none of the teams that he was a part of would’ve been as cohesive. His leadership was criminally undervalued.
I saw this man from behind. I thought to myself, "Damn, this guy is huge!" He turns around a make eye contact. I said to him "Your Tim Tebow?!" He replied, "Yes sir I am". We shook hands. Wished him luck on making tight end for Jacksonville. He thanked me and went on his way.

Tim Tebow wasn't the worst ever. If anything all of his coaches from high school to pro's failed him. As none of them ever tried to correct his throwing mechanics, and encouraged his style of play. Not to mention the NY Jets signed Tebow as a QB, but only used him as a punt protector.

Mechanics only gets you so far. If being a pro QB was just about mechanics it would be easy. There's tons of QBs in the NFL that can throw a beautiful spiral. They can't read defenses, anticipate openings, and not panic under pressure.
I agree with you what he was doing worked, so they saw no reason to help him grow. I also think Tebow was a bit before his time. He could run a read option offense, but at the time they wanted QBs who were pocket passers first and scramblers second. He would fit more teams systems today.

I remember I was in high school when “Tebowmania” was running wild. Everywhere you went it was UF everything. 👴🏼
I don’t care what his stats were as a Broncos fan I always felt we had a chance to win when he was in the game. He reinvigorated a franchise that Josh McDaniels single handedly made crumble to the ground and provided us with one of the most iconic playoff victories of all time. I will always remember and be grateful for that Tebow year.
Thank the defense for always keeping it close and the weapons on offense for getting it done. There’s a reason Manning went to Denver. The only thing holding them back was Tebow.

@@brightestfuture He didn't in fact make it when just about everyone thought he'd have enough of that moxy to be big despite his camp stats placing him as a second-stringer - the same assessments happened with Warner and Brady, and one's the best in history and the other was **the** catch of all catches away from being the third of three to win the Bowl with two teams and the second to win it all with a 9-7 team. To Tebow's credit, he Vinced out instead of Leafed out and he left with the most iconic playoff miracle play in Broncs' history this side of Elway's helicopter run.

Tebow was tough, dedicated and an absolute leader. People knew throughout his college career that his passing skills would not take him far in the pros, but neither Urban Meyer nor any other Florida coach helped him improve for the simple reason that Tebow at his existing skill level most probably meant that he would at least one championship for Florida, and "messing with" his skills by training him to improve would likely interfere with that. Still, nobody ever doubted his commitment, dedication and game leadership qualities.
He wasn't the worst ever. Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf. He was drafted by a first time head coach who didn't know how to utilize him. He was a safe 3rd round pick that would spend the rest of his career as a backup.

He wasn't very good in the NFL and probably would have flamed out spectacularly had Peyton Manning not been waived by the Indianapolis Colts and became immediately available to the Denver Broncos. Even though Tim Tebow led the Broncos to an improbable playoff run despite his glaringly obvious limitations, it was a no-brainer for the Broncos to sign Peyton Manning and dump Tebow.
Tebow's athleticism was undeniable, as was his leadership. It's just sad that he was never able to prove he was an elite passer

I clicked because I wanted to hear "the truth". I think you've fairly nailed it, the only thing I'd add was a lot of people think that if TT had changed to TE earlier his story in the NFL would be different. He couldn't get His mind around changing in the early days, He really wanted to be the QB. He's such a likeable human it's hard not to root for him.
A lot of his teammates in Denver had problems with him. I think he may be a good person but necessarily wasn’t a good teammate.

You can laugh at Tebow's sad NFL career, but there's absolutely no argument that he deserves serious respect for his college career......and then trying to make a comeback in Major League Baseball.....the guy was a wonderful athlete and a competitor like no other.....being a huge fan of another SEC team I obviously didn't care fir him then, but hey, his college football resume alone guarantees that NOBODY will forget Tebow.
Like many players, Tebow was outstanding in college but didn’t cut it as a pro. He wasn’t the first Heisman Trophy winner to play poorly in the NFL.
He knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs, saving the Super Bowl for me. I'll never forget that. That alone makes him great!!!

Tebow was the man. Incredibly athletic, had a magical run with the Broncos. They hated this man for no reason. Yeah, he wasn't a typical passer, but he was a winner.

His throwing motion was beyond pathetic, hard to watch actually. He overachieved and finally came down to earth as expected. Being signed as a tight end by Meyer was the icing on the cake and we all know what happened to Meyer's pro coaching career.
Never bought into Tebowmania, but nobody could question his dedication and leadership. He just didn't have the skills to be an NFL QB. His fall from glory in the NFL, I blame that on, wait for it, his race. And I say that, because had he had the college career he'd had, as a black player, he would have been drafted from the start with the intention of transitioning him to be a TE or FB. Front offices would have been impressed with his athleticism and dedication...you don't lead a team to the national championship based on luck. His rookie minicamp would have had him learning those positions from day one and based on his other skills, he likely would have had success. But they drafted him to be a traditional pocket passer, even though he did not have the skills to fulfill that role.
The hype also contributed to his less than successful NFL career. He was going to be front page news wherever he went. Who knows, as a less famous prospect, he could have been drafted in the later rounds as a QB project, spending 3-4 seasons as a backup, learning the game. Things might have turned out different.
I did not know that his minor league baseball numbers were so good. Heck, he probably would have had a decent MLB career had he gone that route straight from college.

It got a belly full from Kurt Warner, and Tebow was even bolder. They straight up shut him down over his outward love for Jesus. You don't win 8 of 12 and a playoff game in your second season (first real opportunity), sell the most jerseys, draw A TON of publicity and love in miracle win after miracle win, beat the first or second best team in the NFL, and never get a chance to play again otherwise.

I'm British and don't know anything about this sport but it sounds like he was an insanely talented sportsman playing in the wrong position...
They tried putting him other positions but he did worse there. College teams can win with a running QB but in the pros you have to be able to pass.
Saying he is historically bad is insane. His strength was always his mentality and leadership, how he always found a way to win. He made everyone around him better, even if his individuals weren’t so hot. To say he’s historically bad is just so wrong.
For a while he looked good in Denver. They basically abandoned him to bring in Peyton Manning and never gave him a real chance to develop.
There are insidious envious dorks everywhere especially when you have faceless anonymity. Tebow wasn't great at the NFL level but he was 10,000 times greater than i would ever have been and that said I'm not envious I'm happy for the guy

If Tebow played in the 60’s or 70’s he’d still be considered a GOAT. He was born in the wrong era. Everyone is looking for a “prototype” QB. I’d love to see an NFL where the QB’s have more varied skill sets. Aside from that, Tim is an outstanding athlete and an even better person. I’ve never understood anyone hating Tim. I hated UF and still couldn’t hate him.

He says, “No, you don’t realize. During the game, you threw for 316 yards. Your yards per rush were 3.16. Your yards per completion were 31.6. The time of possession was 31.06. And the ratings for the night were 31.6. And during the game, 90 million people googled John 3:16 and it’s the number one thing on all social media right now.”
For someone who was so terrible, you can’t really argue the results. He took over a 1-4 team (after his comeback after taking over at halftime of the 5th game fell short) and then took over and went 8-4 the rest of the way before winning a playoff game before losing to Tom Brady (no shame there). No one ever actually gave him the chance after that.
You can't be a quarterback--starting or otherwise--with a 46% completion percentage. So many of his throws were just brutal to see.
@@rikk319 the dude went out and won 9 of 13 games after taking over for the guy who was 1-4, and came close to leading a comeback in the fifth game he took over at half time. Bottom line is that he won games. Not sure why that didn’t matter at all in terms of at least getting a real look.

Dak has thrown for 29,459 yards on a 67% cmp rate. In his 2020 season where he only played in 5 games he threw for more yards than Tebow did in 2011 when he was a starter and played in 14 games. The people defending Tebow in these comments are delusional. Tebow was terrible. It is, in fact, statistically provable that Tebow was a terrible NFL quarterback. I will repeat the statement from the video, Tebow is the only Quarter back to have a completion rate at 28% or below in 2 games. The Tebow defenders are insane.

I can name some bad qbs that went to a superbowl. Rex Grossman went to a superbowl and Trent Dilfer won a superbowl just to name a few bad qbs. Tebow was a bad qb. Very bad. 😂 great athlete.

It is not his fault. Tim Tebow should have been used in the NFL as a 'situational short yardage quarterback ' then he might have had a decent NFL career, much the way QB Chris Streveler is used. For example, if the offense is in a 'third and one' or 'fourth and one' situation, the team can pull the starting quarterback and put Tebow in specifically for that one short yardage play to get the first down or on the goal line. That is what Tebow was made for. I felt badly for him in the way his skills were misunderstood.
He didn’t want to do that. When he realized his career would end if he didn’t give up his dream of being a starting QB he decided he would try it.
Meh, not worth having on the roster
Before watching, my opinion is that Tim Tebow was good enough to be a backup Quarterback. But just like Colin Kaepernick, and Cam Newton, too much noise comes with them for a franchise to be like. Yeah that's my backup, Not my starter. No one's putting up with the headaches for a backup.
The thing about tebow is that he's a leader. He doesn't have all the talent, but he had a way of maximizing his teammates talent to get the best out of the team.
Y'all don't understand that Tebow just wins. I don't care that his release is janky or his passing percentage is low. Those numbers don't tell the full story of a guy who was a champion in College and took his NFL team to the 2nd round of the playoffs, first time starting. You cannot put a number on Tebow's intangibles. You cannot put a number on Tebow's clutch. You cannot put a number on Tebow's luck. Any young QB that led their team to the things Tebow did his first season starting, would be put on a pedestal. Tebow doesn't fit the mold of old and tired coaches. The mold Tebow is cut from is a bright, shining, faithful, winning, clutch, lucky and tenacious one that few appreciate or understand.

Tebow looked good at Florida because he was throwing to guys so wide open that I could have completed those passes. In the NFL, that just doesn’t happen.

Yes, he had that one win against Pittsburg in the NFL playoffs, but New England completely dismantled his Broncos team when they played then in the playoffs. I believe the score was 45-10.
As a Broncos fan, he started a game in KC and only completed two passes…AND WON THE GAME. KC destroyed so many Broncos quarterbacks in KC. Jake Plummer lost his job after losing a game in KC. The defense had to play lights out to win that game 😂

Georgia bulldog here. Tebow played for the gators a team we bulldogs love to hate but but I admit he had a brilliant college career!! In the NFL I believe he was treated unfairly. My man had some success and I couldn't understand the hate by the media for him. Again he from my arch rival school but I rooted for Tebow

He took a 2-4 roster and 28th in rushing, then explosively won 7 games in a row , 1 in rushing and beat the the #1 defense in the playoffs, so your elementary deceleration of his NFL career is Very fraud
One fluke season doesn't make his career as a whole great. He was carried by an amazing defense and great receivers. The Broncos won in spite of Tebow not because of Tebow. Her assessment of his career as a whole is correct. He was not an NFL caliber QB and his ego didn't allow him to transfer to a position he was better suited for. If he really was good, he would have succeeded elsewhere. Once he left Denver, the novelty of the Wild Cat offense had been figured out and he got exposed.

Despite how much you people hate this man, and down play that season, if Tebow was carried by the Broncos def and receivers, why were they 2-4? Even if you don't care about any of that, why was he not given a single chance with any other team to play QB after such a run when there have been SEVERAL bum QBs that played in the NFL multiple years even as backups yet Tebow was told fuck you and drummed out of the league? And as a bonus, if you're one of the people that says he could only run, Lamar Jackson is a star QB for the Ravens right now and his QBR is one of the worst in history yet he's praised.....
@NSAgent I don't hate Tebow, never once said I did. What I did say is he had a fluke season in Denver, and I stand by it. If he was as good as you seem to think he was, then why didn't he succeed anywhere else? He was a terrible qb, and once the rest of the league figured out the wildcat offense, he was done. Lamar Jackson was in the top 5 QBR last season. Yea, he's a terrible QB alright 🙄.

Tim Tebow is the key ingredient that goes into making a hall of fame QB without everything that makes a QB capable of playing in the NFL. Like, you can add a small amount of "Tebow" into QBs like Kirk Cousins for example, and he would have 2 SBs at this point. His intangibles were almost unmatched and he won games solely because he wanted more than his opponent. Problem is... when you needed him to be a consistent, mechanically strong QB he just couldn't do it.
I think he's very very far from being one of the worst.

being a Broncos fan during the Tebow hype was an amazing and exciting time. I knew the Broncos defense were the ones really carrying the team. I also knew if they went up against a high scoring team, they would lose - for example, vs the Patriots that year.
Yes, the defense was excellent, and key. But 2 key things cannot be denied - the team with Orton at QB could only manage 1-4, with Tebow 7-4 and a playoff win. Second, the unreal win after win had to ultimately be credited as much to the Tebow-lead offense as the defense, by virtue of the way it would come from behind and give them just enough points to pull out all those dramatic wins.
The name of the game is winning, and it's undeniable that Denver doesn't make the playoffs without Tebow. He's the one who put God on their side, to give them all those miracles! Just unreal how awful his numbers were, but how incredibly good he played for just enough time in all those fourth quarters.
How is Tebow literally the combination of Jimmer Fredette and Taysom Hill?? For real.
Jimmer - Beloved by the nation in college; the BEST player. Drafted in the first round. After the first season, the coach and management that drafted him are gone. In and out of the highest level of the sport, but the mania continued to follow.
Taysom - The biggest, strongest, and most physical dude on that field. LOVES football and an on-field leader. Then off the field, the nicest guy. The comparison is already made in this video.
Oh.. and not to mention the fact that Tebow is a devout Christian, and both Jimmer and Taysom are BYU alums and known for their faith as well.

Tim took a 1-4 team and went 8-5 including the playoffs. He had weaknesses as a traditional NFL pocket quarterback, but he is a winner and a great football player. He got shafted because his faith and his rabid following was a distraction. Each team carries at least two quarterbacks. I can't believe that 64 quarterbacks were better than him. Some coach could have made him the backup/wildcat quarterback and had some patience to develop him. Maybe even the practice squad. Shame on the Broncos for how they treated him. I used to like them, now they are one of my least favorite teams. I laughed so hard when Seattle destroyed them in the Super Bowl!! Haha Tebow Time!!

Once people got film on Tebow it was all downhill. He was essentially an option QB who couldn't make the transition to the NFL dropback passing style.

I'll always love Tim Tebow for basically playing alone against the Alabama Crimson Tide when the rest of the Gators seemed to have just given up. Tremendous heart but it just didn't work out for him in the NFL.

Didn't help that Caleb Hanie was the Bears QB that day. I always hoped Hanie could amount to something (watched him play at Colorado State) but man, he just couldn't make it at the NFL level.
God that game was unreal. I went to the game and sat with my son in a section full of Chicago fans. They were total aholes and I remember explaining the mathematics to my son as to why the game was over in the fourth quarter. I told him that all the bears had to do was keep the ball in bounds and the game was over. Then Barber ran out of bounds like an idiot. My son and I looked at each other and laughed and said they don't know who they're dealing with and Tebow (and the place kicker) did another miracle finish. Unbelievable....

People trash Tebow unnecessarily. He wasn't given a proper opportunity. When he actually got to start, he took the Broncos, who were 5 games out of playoff contention, and lead them to those playoffs. If he had been given a better opportunity, I believe that he would have been a fantastic qb and won championships. Possibly even a Super Bowl or two.
The Steelers have done many things to make me miserable. Losing to a historically bad QB in the playoffs might top that and they did so twice with Tim Tebow and Blake Bortles.
Tebow was given the opportunity to choose for himself where he was traded to and New York offered him a chance as a wildcat QB while Jacksonville offered him a starting job at QB.
I will never understand why he or any QB would choose backup/wildcat while having the chance to be a starter
I live in Jacksonville. They never gave him an offer for QB. All of us here wanted to draft him, wanted to sign him, wanted to trade for him, get him here in any way possible as a backup or something. They never did until later as a tight end, but it was too late.
I once read backup QB is the best job in the NFL. Holding a cardboard most of the time, earning more than decent money and when hitting the field, a lot less pressure because, well, just the backup QB after all..
So what I'm hearing is that the Jags could have been even worse than what they were at the time🤣

Right, last I checked, winning was ALL that matters, and he absolutely won, many would say miraculously even. I still love Tim Tebow at quarterback playing at University of Florida he really was amazing so awesome to watch he was special he won the 2007 Heisman Trophy a 2X National Champion but yet he still became a 1st Round 25th pick by the Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft but as a Steelers fan I certainly remember the playoff game in overtime he threw a picture perfect pass to Demaryius Thomas on one play it was one of the absolute BEST play in Tebow's career but let's be real honest here Tebow is overshadowed cause of Peyton Manning after Tebow left the Broncos for the New York JETS although he's not in the NFL anymore but I still appreciate and respect Tebow more and more cause he is by far the single most handsome man I've ever seen for he's cool he's calm and collected he's like the Boy Next Door type of guy and I mean that in a good respectful way at least he's living his real incredible life outside of football! 4:11

You can actually thank Tom Brady and the Patriots offensive coordinator and QB coach Bill O'Brien you casual .. Brady threw for 6 TD's in that game and put Tebow into a situation where the Broncos had to pass every play in order to keep up. Do you know how easy it is to play defense when you know the opposition has to pass every play because you are down 20,30,40 points?

Josh McDaniels era was the worst it had been pre Peyton post Elway. That special year with Tebow was probably the best season we’d had since Elway too.
Josh Mcdaniels is without question our most hated coach. The funniest part about that year we beat the Steelers is it was all bonus for us. I personally thought we’d be lucky to win 5 games.
