    I replaced my belt. The squeaking noise went away but shortly after my new belt got shredded even worse than the last one. Any ideas?

    Why on all the videos is the alternator at the front while on the car I have its at the back?

    Thank you for the video you explained things well. I just replaced mine but since then my battery drags upon starting and I don't know but while driving I think I feel like a slip. Could this be because of the serpentine belt? The slipping also? Lol I am a 52 yr old women but im using our quote unquote joint you tube account which basically belongs to my better half. I took 2 1/2 years of auto shop in high school and proud of it. Remember now I am woman!! So he hires our "Brokechanic"playfully towards him but not really as much as he charges but everytime he gives us a good deal I me WOMAN has to go fix it then I get the silent treatment because i did it. Any advice. The belt was replaced about 2wks ago drags but still cranking. It's getting colder here in SATX..But I just replaced the battery too. I am the single proud owner of my 2001 toyota corolla le. She has never given me any major problems NONE and I'd like to keep it that way..

      So long as you installed the belt correctly (I show a diagram at 0:48) then it really shouldn't be dragging while starting. The only reason that would drag on start would be from starting it while having the ac on, this puts extra strain on the starter since the ac compressor will be engaged. The couple of things I could think of is to check that the belt is installed correctly, then you could check each component the belt goes on to see if they're starting to go out (ac, starter, water pump, power steering). Also I know you just replaced the battery but I have heard of a single cell in the battery being bad, so the battery has enough juice to crank over and start but just cranks over slow/ sluggish.

    do these belts every stretch to long and began to make rattle noise because the are out of range of the tensioner?

    • @Handy-Mann
      @Handy-Mann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically when they stretch they'll make a squealing noise, especially when starting the vehicle. So if you hear that belt squealing that means that either the belt has stretched or the tensioner needs to be tighter/is going out.

    • @keithmeyers3718
      @keithmeyers3718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a rattling sound you may have a bearing failing. Take the and spinning the water pump and alternator to rule them out

    Hi. I'm now having a hard time with setting the belt onto the pulleys. So that nut and bolt should help with loosening the belt again?

    • @Handy-Mann
      @Handy-Mann  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's correct

    • @eles2147
      @eles2147 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Handy-Mann oooops. I meant to correct myself. The 17mm bolt away from the belt system. I already removed the bolts from the alternator. I now have been attempting to set the belt onto the pulleys before resetting the new alternator.

    Try doing this with air conditioner system in place. I can't find youtube videos showing alternator and serp. belt R & R with air conditioning system for this car.

    • @Handy-Mann
      @Handy-Mann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but not quite sure I understand your question? In this video I show a diagram that shows how the serpentine belt goes around both the alternator and the ac

    • @supermoonrising1070
      @supermoonrising1070 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Handy-Mann The car in the video has no air conditioning. Cars with air conditioning have components next to the alternator which make it really hard to get your hands down into where the serpentine belt is, and also make it hard to remove the alternator. I'd like to see videos that show how to do all this with the air conditioner components there.

    • @Handy-Mann

      @@supermoonrising1070 So my Corolla definitely has ac on it. Sorry that I don't show a better view of that. I'll keep that in mind for next time I do a project in that area.

      @@Handy-Mann My car (which is a Chevy Prizm (same thing as a Toyota Corolla) has an accumulator mounted to the left of the alternator, which blocks access. I think we have different design cars then. Thanks for the video and the replies. Here is a video of exactly the car I'm trying to change the alternator: th-cam.com/video/N14jSk5JXn8/w-d-xo.html (04:07 in that video) (check out the accumulator mounted to the left of the alternator). I can't figure out how to reach around and under it to work on the alternator or belt very easily.
