    Excellent video and instructions! Thank you Mr. Yang! My aftermarket pulley had a 14mm bolt. The hardest part was installing the new serpentine belt. Sounds great now.

    Thank you for putting this video up! My Corolla has the same issue and I wasn't keen to replace the whole tensioner. This is a much more attractive idea!
    Talking about making things more complicated... I tried to get that little grey cover off the battery bolt on the alternator on my Corolla, and it shot off and disappeared in between the inlet manifold and engine block! Hours added to the job of replacing the alternator!!

    Thanks for your video. It worked on my car. I had a bad squeaking noise and now is completely gone. I used an adjustable wrench instead of a ratchet (because I didn't have enough clearance) you can use a regular wrench though (I think the size is 21 mm, but not 100% sure).

    There is a simple work around to remove that splined bolt from the pulley. You will need a 9/16 box wrench and six 3/32 drill bits. Mount the tensioner in a vice pulley up. Place the 9/16 box wrench around the splined bolt head. insert the drill bit shanks between the wrench and the bolt spline slots to make a nice snug fit.

    2010 Altis. Done 1,05,000 miles. Toyota says no need to replace the belt, pulleys. However, there is a slight squealing noise. And the performance of steering, water pump has started to affect. Should I change the entire thing owing to mileage? It is still original one.

    I have a Scion TC that uses the same tensioner pulley assembly but the bolt they use is different.. It's a star shaped. Does anyone know what size that star tool is?
    Also,
    Since Toyota uses the same Tensioner Pulley Assembly for many years of its vehicles, does that mean this part would also fit those same vehicles that use the same assembly?

      I realize this is an old post and the author likely found the answer, but perhaps this will help others reading this Q&A. The other pulls (next to alternator) is the water pump pulley. If that one is shaky, you need a new pump.

    • @liyangtime
      @liyangtime  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry. I don't know the torque. I just hand tighten it, and it should be OK. If I remember correct, belt/bearing turn to clock direction(tighten direction).

  • @mikefennema5561

    I found an easy work around to remove that proprietary pully bolt. You need a 9/16 box wrench and six 3/32 drill bits. Mount the tensioner in a vice, pully up. Hold the 9/16 box around the pully bolt and insert the 3/32 drill bit shanks into the bolt slots between the bolt and the wrench. It is a perfect fit.

    • @aygwm
      @aygwm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why would you remove the pulley after removing the tensioner? The whole point to removing the pulley was to not have to remove the tensioner assembly.

    • @alainmarcoux4156

      @@aygwm Replacing the pulley bearing ? Did that before, à little Ball bearing is a lot cheaper than the tensioner assy, believe me.

    any squeaky noice rattling noice after ac on noice starting engine noice moving stoped car noice and go away, its not only belt its the whole pulley , replace both noice mostly come from the pulley barring , don’t have to buy expensive tension pulley barring usually made in japan if it is you good for another 10 years but change the belt every 60k to 70k miles , if a mechanic says need to open up whole ac compressor means he don’t like you or he is late with his rent or simple he is a crook,

  • @letmethinkv

  • @Eurospec73
    @Eurospec73 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Unfortunately, you’re wrong, you don’t have to replace the tensioner pulley. You don’t have to remove the engine mount or jack up the oil pan with a jack, that’s only if you want to replace the idler tensioner arm..
    To replace only that tensioner pulley wheel, simply use the special socket and move it off the car and then replace it. Problem solved no more squealing or spinning pulley.
