- Quick and dirty way to "fix" a bent steel rim. Also, carefully inspect the tire for any damage. If the sidewall is bulging, the tire is damaged and needs to be replaced.

I was on the right track except I was using the box end of a wrench. What I found amusing is that he grabbed his socket with a rag claiming it gave him more control, fair enough. In my case I grabbed a rag because I wasn't gripping the wrench very tight and after about three blows the following one sent vibrations to my hand hurt like hell for about 30 seconds causing me to curse almost as bad as when I hit that hole. Just tried your tip. I only had a 3" long 1/4" drive extension. I attached the much too short 1/4 drive extension to 10" length of fuel hose. Works like a charm with no shock from the hammer blows, no smashed fingers, and the drive extension laying flat on the rim.

I really didn't want to spend money for a new rim. I called all the salavge yards around me and nobody has my specific rim new nor used.
I hit a very big pothole at night and it dented the lip more than your's and broke the bead, i heard hissing for about 4 seconds before i started riding on rim.
Was it a 4×108? Nobody seems to have those around here lol
@@FirstnameLastname-pe5ib can't remember exactly, just a standard 4 lug rim made in Brazil. I never replaced my rim. This video helped a lot however. I was able to get the dent hammered back in place and it hold's air in the tire no problem. It's still a tiny bit flat, but it's doing it's job.
Genius. Just solved the very same issue using a 5/16 socket. Jammed two bamboo skewers into the socket (which is now partially crushed) and used the blunt end of a camping hatchet as a sledge.

Is it necessary to heat the steel rim with a torch while reshaping the bead? Great idea either way, thanks for the tip.
Yes it will help the steel or aluminum shape a little easier with less force
Wow ... we don't even have honest tire salesman like this man anymore. It's like these new guys don't like to think, or do any work, all they want to do is up sell and talk a bunch of nonsense like people don't have experience and common sense and YT.

Could I use a hammer or is that a bad idea?
That's the point of the video. The hammer will flatten the lip of the rim. I wanted to take a hammer to my steel rim also. I'm glad i didn't . My tire guy told me to get a rim from the junkyard so i did.
Is this a permanent fix?
It depends on the degree of damage - for me, yes. I am sure some rims are damaged beyond what you can fix yourself.
Is it okay to fix a minor bend while the tire is still in the vehicle?
