This is something that everyone should do before starting any project.
Thanks so much for the help!

No problem and thank you! Yes this is very useful for the game pipeline. One thing to watch out for though is if you are running simulations (nCloth) in Maya as it works better with the default units when performing physics operations. In those instances I would leave the working units as they are and run my simulation as needed, then rescale and freeze the transformations before taking it to the game engine. Best of luck!

Hi great tutorial, however I have a character and all the Maya settings are in Metres but Unity imports it at 0.01 across the board even at cm (which is wrong it comes in at that scale nothing effects it any help would be great thanks

Hi there are a few of possibilities. First I would debug this by trying with a cube first to make sure your FBX export settings are correct for Maya and your import settings are correct for Unity. If that works just double check your characters transforms are frozen. If it doesn't you may just have to adjust Unity's import setting for Scale Factor. Make sure everything is backed up though or you may run into issues with your rig and animation.
Sometimes when I'm trying to see where things went wrong I'll simplify it as much as possible. So I would test with a cube. If that works I'll make a very simple animation with the cube. Then I'll compare that with the object I have an issue with. Another thing you can try is importing into a fresh Unity project. Good luck.

Not recommended to change Maya unity to meter, because when working with 3ds max and blender artist, their fbx scale would be messed up even they change their unity to meter. CM works best.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working for you but I'll outline the steps. Let me know if you figure it out.
      1. In Maya go to Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Settings
      2. Change Working Units to meter
      3. Next go to your FBX exports settings
      4. Go to File Type Specific Options > Advanced Options > Units
      5. Uncheck the Automatic box and for File units converted to: change to Centimeters.
      6. After that export and Maya cube and compare with Unity's cube.

@@DigitalDreambox thank you! I forgot to compare with the unity cube. I was actually comparing with the unity grid, that seems not to be in meters haha

It's even more confusing to mess with settings. Just model your thing, scale it properly using measurements/reference meshes (a 175 cm human size, usually) in Maya, freeze transform and export with default settings. Wanna Match a cube with the one in Unity? Create a 100x100 centimeters cube. Why I'm saying this? Because settings are always relative and noobs will screw size even with apparently flawless settings. Just force them to use a reference mesh to avoid any error or confusion (don't forget to freeze transforms).
