Thanks Allen, when the current plexi one breaks I will take your advice and make one out of metal

@spelunkerd Thanks a lot. Now I am going to think of brain goo whenever I use the Fein. I have noticed a whole bunch of companies have come out with a vibrating saw along the lines of the MultiMaster but I do not know if the blades are interchangeable. I will look into it. Those Fein blades are expensive but they do perform.

Hi Allan-why not put the cutouts for both stones on the sides of the plexiglass, saving the need for the Fein?

I like everything about my Fein, except the price of the blades. Do you have any tips regarding blades? By the way, that 's the same device used to drill through the human skull when doing neurosurgery. Cuts bone but leaves soft tissue and brain alone.

@wdworking I think I will be able to help you. A sharp and durable edge and one that is easy to resharpen makes all the difference to me.

Might have been easier to place the new plastic UNDER the old one and trace the openings like a stencil. IMHO YMMV

Hi Allan, what thickness plexi glass is that?

Writing to thank you. I am not afraid to do some research when not sure. Watched your series on DMT sharpening using this plastic holder, about a year and a half ago and have been sharpening my plane blades, lathe tools, chisels and jointer and planner blades this way ever since. You were the first internet guy I found who made sense on this topic who did not seem to be trying to sell me something. I believe you at this point. If you ever get to lumberjocks.com/xraydav/projects and look though my projects you will find one on sharpening bench station. I had a piece of 26x30x2" plexi I used as a table top for my sharpening station. kind of makes my old granite square obsolete but I still keep it for certain things. But you will see I cut my plexi DMT holder and can take any old blade and make it sing in about 15 minutes. One of your best tips was the green polishing compound. Bought some scrap cow hide and Veritas green. It takes my blades from Extra Fine DMT scratches to polished surface in about two licks. Thank you for teaching, clearly and well. You have made me a sharpener and I take a lot of pride in that. I have about 60 planes so this was important to me. I have a collection and then my working planes. I did not get the makita waterstone, I got twin 8" slow Woodcraft sharpener. Works good for me. If you ever read a lathe guy named Keith Rowley, he has great plans for a lathe bench I used and also he recommends the 8" slow grinder and a wood jig for sharpening which I find easy and quick. I got it before I watched your series. But the DMT is the key for me. Thanks again.

Thanks for writing David. I kept breaking the plexiglass holders and after several variations of steel stone holders I came up with this stone holder that works for both 2x6 and 3x8 DMT stones for edge or capture sharpening. Here is a link to free plans from my tool company website and a free how to series on making it. Thanks for taking your time to reach out and please keep in touch.
