      By the way, did you have a 60 AMP breaker? So you could charge at 48 amp?

    You missed an important point in unscrewing the charger face from the body. The screws are NOT hex screws. They are T20 Torx screws. And not just any TORX screws but security T20 Torx screws. Many folks will not have the corresponding screwdriver lying around. In fact, I ran to ACE hardware and they were not carrying it locally either. You can find the driver at Amazon or larger stores.

      The security T20 bit is included in the charger hardware

    great video! did you end up putting those set screws inside the charger that holds the body to the mounting plate? It's not mentioned in the video but it did look pretty secure with just your conduit.

    Would you be able to provide the exact spec measurements of the mounting bracket holes for vertical and horizontal stud locations from the top, bottom and side? We are going to install on a steel post. Also what is the weight of the charge cable?

    Nice video on the setup; what did you set the dip switches inside the box to for your amperage setup?

    Is the opening (circular against wall) made to feed wires from behind vs from below? Id like to come through the wall vs exterior conduit?

    That cable to the faceplate doesn’t seem to exist anymore. It’s connected the main board on both sides.

    My Tesla gets charged by using the 14-50 outlet, so this is good to know that I can simply install the Rivian wall charger to those wires. Can I still have the 14-50 outlet pigtailed off of the same wires as long as I don't use both at the same time? I may keep the Tesla, though once my Rivian arrives in a few weeks that sentiment may change:)

    • @emmetthoffman593
      @emmetthoffman593 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know if you have already gotten your Rivian, and found a solution, but if you have a 14-50 plug that connects to the Rivian charger, you can definitely use them interchangeably, you obviously just have to unplug the Tesla and plug in Rivian when charging Rivian, and vice versa

    What's the advantage of using the Rivian charger? My electric service wants to sell me a different charger and is offering some credits for using their charger and charging during specific hours. So I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of the Rivian model.

    Tesla wall charger is only $400 vs. Rivian's $750 wall charger. Does the same thing at 48A. I going with tesla with a Tesla Tap adapter.

    Hey Russ, Thanks for your content! A question about your charger, Will it alow others to use it with a plug share kind of arrangement and moniter the amount of power given to the vehicle? Thinking about mounting it outside and sharing the love.

    The conductors didn’t look like 4 THHN capable of 48A. Looked like 6 THHN should be current limited to 40A.

    • @doingitruss9942
      @doingitruss9942  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. Not familiar obviously. How will that effect the charger?

    • @yolo_burrito
      @yolo_burrito 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doingitruss9942 it will overheat the wires in the wall. You can reduce the current draw within the setup. You need a 60a breaker and 4-0 or larger wire. For the full 48a. You should reduce to 40a with a 50a breaker and 32a with a 40a breaker.
      Always derate by 20% of the breaker for continuous amperage draw like a EVSE.

    • @ericchile
      @ericchile 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      48A on a 60A breaker can be achieved in short runs with 6 THHN wire as long as it is in metal conduit. But the right thing to do is use #4 like Doinig Russ says.

    • @logicalreason51
      @logicalreason51 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The charger does have settings (Dip switches) inside to set for your actual current. It’s variable from 7.5 Amps up to 60 Amps. So be sure to set that up correctly based on your wire gauge/Amp draw.

      @@ericchile Page 23 of the Rivian Wall Charger installation manual includes a table. The table for a 48A current you should use a 60 amp circuit breaker with 6 AWG.

    Uh, you don't install one. You need a Rivian first. And, the latest news indicates that you probably won't be getting one...ever.
