    Decent presentation. You did keep it simple but perhaps a little too simple with regards to mileage and charging. A major factor you left out is the amperage. E.g. 240v does not get you 11.5 kw. In other words, volts does not equal watts. Wattage is dependent on amps times volts. (Easy way to remember is WAVe. W=A*V) 240v * 48a = 11,500 w = 11.5 kw. The 48a is max to draw on a 60a circuit. More generically, 80% of the amps the circuit breaker is rated.
    As for your estimated range (miles), the 314 mi (R1T) / 316 mi (R1S) is based on the 21" wheels. Rivian indicates a 5-10% reduction with 22" wheels and 10-20% reduction with 20" wheels. Just as with ICE vehicles, your mileage will obviously vary based on many other factors - weather, road conditions, elevation, driving style, etc.

      Chuck you just learned me. Thank you for the breakdown it makes sense. Someone else let me know about the wheel size and mileage which is very helpful. Thanks again for the knowledge.

      @@HaulYT Sure, no prob, ur welcome. I only mentioned the affect of the wheel size (actually I believe it's the tire (mostly the tread) Rivian provides on those wheels/rims) is because I thought I heard you say in the vid a 30% reduction with the 20" ATs. If that's what you're getting with your ATs, then I suspect there are other factors in play reducing your range - weather, road conditions, elevation, drive mode, your driving style, etc.

    About those dryer outlets... Be careful using them, they typically are going to only have 10 gauge wire. It's a good way to let the factory sealed smoke out of your dryer outlet.

      Fred I did a video on individuals who shouldn't buy an electric vehicle yet and I would say if you don't have ample charging near your home or within your daily commute I wouldn't be getting an electric vehicle yet. Until the charging network gets a bit more mature it would be a constant worry and that isn't a way to live.

    I've got a stupid question, we used the portable cable that comes with Rivian for the first time with the 120 volt adapter pigtail. The manual that comes with portable charger cable says to remove the pigtail that you simply pull the pigtail out of the charger.......well, it doesn't simply pull out. What's the trick to remove the pigtail? Thanks for sharing.

      @@HaulYT Thanks for the reply. Let me see if I can't explain myself better. The portable charge cable comes with a 120 volt and a 220 volt pigtail ( that's what I call them ), I plugged the 120 volt pigtail into the rectangular box part ( I don't know what it's called ) of the portable cable. I've tried pulling the pigtail from the rectangular box with know luck, maybe it takes a lot more force to remove the pigtail but I don't want to damage anything. @@HaulYT - I've had my R1S for about 4 months now and it has terrible phantom drain, especially in cold weather. Just returned from a 4 week road trip where my R1S was parked outside most of the time in temps ranging from below zero to 40'sF. On average it loses about 3-5% of charge overnight. I actually had a few nights where it was plugged into a 120v outlet overnight (10+hrs) and added 0 (zero) miles because it was just trying to maintain the battery and other systems. So yea, IMHO, this is a major issue for Rivian to address. .... Just found your "Rivian's Idle Battery Drain: A Closer Look" video. I'll post any follow up comments over there. TIP: Update the description here that you have a video on battery drain. ;-)

      Not currently with the Rivian onboard AC charger and EVSE. However, there are third party EVSEs out there that provide timed or scheduled charging so you can, e.g., schedule charging to start and end during the night to take advantage of lower, hourly kW pricing.

    Thanks for the helpful info here! But man, this is why EVs sounds very impractical for a reliable vehicle. Home charging is slow even with the installed home charger, and the included cables are even less than a trickle charge. Yikes. I can’t consider an EV until the support and infrastructure are in a much better place for these vehicles. The likelihood of getting stranded seems insanely high.
    Great video tho! Super cool truck too. Just not for me.

      I’ve had two EVS for over a year and a half. I have only charged at a DC fast charger four times in that time frame. All my charging is done at home on a Level 2 OpenEVSE unit. I’ve never had issues with finding chargers. Range anxiety is something people new to EVs have, but then that goes away very fast, and home charging is where the ease of use really comes in.

      @chuckm260 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@codymck23 - I also have two EVs and charging them is not issue for me ... but that's just me. There are at least 3 additional and important factors I would add to your comment - where you live, what you live in, and your average daily driving distance. Not everyone lives in a populated area with many public chargers available. Also, people live in condos and apartments where they can not easily install or have access to overnight charging. And of course, if your daily commute (I don't have one) can easily play a huge factor in how much much and how frequent one needs to charge their EV. So as much as I'm a proponent of EVs, charging and range anxiety is still a valid and major concern for many people.

    • @codymck23
      @codymck23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chuckm260 agreed on the where you live. Apartments would be an issue for sure. I live in a rural area of North Carolina and I commute 110 miles round trip. We rarely take trips due to having a handicapped son. Some I’m a prime candidate for EV ownership. Manageable daily commute me charge from home. In 2+ years of EV driving, we have only charged at DC fast chargers maybe 5 times. Anyway, I hope people don’t let range anxiety stop them. There are ways to get your charging done.
