    I'm currently building a custom printer based around the Duet2Wifi board. I've got the Z-axis/bed moving up and down, the next step is getting all the parts printed/fabricated for the X/Y-axis.
    I have to say I love just messing around with the Duet's interface even though I can't print anything yet. I also have a 7" PanelDue and I really appreciate that it has a g-code console with virtual keyboard built-in. Makes tinkering/tweaking so much easier.

After you configured it that way, did you then plug it into the z-probe pin or did you still use the z-endstop pins? It just mentions you should use the z-probe pins in that configuration

    Thanks for the nice video! I am fairly new to diy building 3d printers, but right not i developed a 4-coulour printhead, and I want to build a 3d printer around it. The duet wifi seems like the best choice given the expansion board and 32bit, but im not shure how to set it up with "4 extruders" (technically its 1 extruder that can be filled with 4 different filaments at the same time).
    So when i make the setup, do i just enter 4 extruders instead of the 1 you entered?
    I would be really glad if you had some tipps on how to do this:)

    great videos Chris! for some reason i understand your videos much better than other you tubers. do you have any advice if i upgrade to a duet and make it 24V? i know i need a 24v hot end and heatbed, my printer can only accomodate a 220x220 heatbed. what 24v PSU should i get? I have been hearing about AC heat beds but i heard duet would be enough to power a 24v heatbed. thanks!

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yes, a 220x220 the 24v should be fine. Check out MeanWell power supplies, around 30amp. The only really trick is with the fans. If you run 24v, I think the fans have to be 5v.

    • @neilsiebenthal8696
      @neilsiebenthal8696 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could just keep your 12v fans and get some mini buck converts, I have a couple that are about the size of a quarter and work great. But I'm only stepping 12v to 5 and 3.3v. Might run a little hot on 24 to 12v but I suppose if you mount them with a heatsink and near the fan.. Problem solved.

    Thanks again for the great videos.
    I have installed the Duet WiFi on a self designed cartesian printer. I have a issue with skipping steps and have incrementally increased the amperage to the stepper motors. I started at 950 as per your recommendation in this video, I am up to about 1400 depending on the axis and still get the occasional skipped step but am reluctant to increase power input anymore than I already have. My movements are nice and smooth with little resistance. I'm curious if this is due to the stepper drivers on the Duet WiFi, what do you think? What do you think is a good maximum current that would be acceptable?

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not really sure on the max on the Duet. Are you running 12v or 24v? What type of motors are you using?

    • @leifaroni
      @leifaroni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am running 12 volt, the duet is capable of 2500 but I am reluctant to go that high. I'm concerned that I am missing something in the big picture so to speak. My stepper motors are nema 17 with 1.8 steps/mm @@ChrisRiley

    Hey Chris if you don't mind answering a stupid question for me. Let me first give you a little history. I bought a Printrbot Simple Metal back in 2016. The micro USB broke and they sent me a new F6 board. I used this for a while as I am 50 and have other things to do being a dad, husband, son and brother. In short life happened. I just started printing with it again and broke the micro USB again. Printrbot is now out of business. I purchased a new Anet A8 in early 2017 and just built it on August 30th this year. I had to resolve an extruder issue and broke the threaded tube that goes through the hot block to the extruder. I'm waiting for parts. Meanwhile while I was printing with the A8 and trying to dial it in, I ordered a Creality Ender 3 that just arrived yesterday 9/12 and I haven't put it together yet.(remember life, Oh yeah.) So I tried to purchase a little board that plugs into the Printrbot's F6 board to power a screen to use it computer free, sort of like the A8 and Ender3 but that didn't work either. I'm trying another thing first. Now finally to my question. Can I replace the F6 board with a Duet or another board? Thanks, Frank

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Frank, I have all the parts to build a SM except the board. I think the board swap out can be done, we just need to find one that will fit in the case. Also, the screen might cause us some issues. I hope to get back to mine sometime soon, so we might find out together.

      I have a x5sa configured with a duet 2 maestro and I don't think the web configuration creator has(had?) options for the inductive sensor type. I could be wrong but I ended up changing it in the config files. You should read the documentation on the zprobe for duet.
      Something worth keeping in mind is that the mounting screws for the bed can cause spikes in the induction sensor over the base aluminium plate, and cause some strange looking spikes in the fancy 3d bed level view. I just changed the bed level to scan a smaller area that avoids them.
      Also you should be sure to set the probe offset so you don't ram the hotend to the print surface because it's outside of the aluminium bed.

I want to be able to monitor my print as with the creality camera does. Could I just connect it the same or would it not accept it and have to reconfigure the firmware? Thanks

      Hum, didn't think about that one, I was thinking it was the motors, so if its moving left with left arrows by 10 then most likely the motors are correct? Good idea, I will try tonight and let you know how it works out. I really appreciate you responding.

    • @jasonreynolds4050

      well, part of the problem was I went and tried a custom set up thinking I knew it all and made things worse. Yeah, I started reading up on the endstops directly and got them to light up then I changed back to I3 Duplicator custom profile that someone provided and then it all came back to life, I had originally used it but didn't work properly either. Anyways, I'm back to homing properly. After that, my extruder is now acting up and won't push filament through, seems like it is clogged. Two steps forward one step back.
      I feel that if a few days possibly I will be back to printing.

    • @ChrisRiley

      It's basically luck depending on your printer design. To be 100% successful, you would need some Z rods that can't be back feed. Like some TR8x2

    I am absolutely stumped on this one. Even with M550 set and no M551 entry in config.g, I get prompted by a login to the web interface. I've tried every combination of setting M551, not setting M551, using the entry in M550 as the username and as the password, and vice versa...the web interface Will Not Let Me In. I've even wiped the SD card clean and reinstalled everything. Nothing works. Suggestions??

    Chris, BCWireless? Don't you know the current PC acceptable term is BCE!! All kidding aside, great video. For the power off resume, how did you decide on 5mm? Do you wanted it retracted all the way to the Bowden tube to avoid clogging the nozzle?

    • @ChrisRiley

      Ha ha ha! Thanks Ron! 5mm is the default setting just to keep the blobbing off your model. On a bowden you would probably be right, of course depends on the setup.
