    You need to take advantage of newer hydraulic roller cams. You will put your cylinder heads closer to peak air flow numbers. I always try to match cylinder head max air flow with cam lift. Use duration to put the engine in the desired rpm range.

    If you had some 1.6 ratio rockers that may help with a little more valve lift. It would be an interesting test comparison for the dyno videos as well. Thanks for the great content!

      I'd have to look back but think I predicted 435 HP and 415 lb.-ft... most claimed less than 380 HP... I don't think it's the rocker arms. but do figure there is another 30 HP in there somewheres... we didn't know the cam spec.s or type yet back then and I still don't know, don't have the time right now to look, got to get to a doctor's appointment...

      @@BuzzLOLOL Those factory rockers are only 1.45 range and with the .525 lift FTH camshaft he is lucky to have .493 by my math. SB Mopars lose .010 lobe lift because the lifter and pushrod is not in the same plane. A 1.6 rocker would get him there, he isn't using the heads .

      Yeah, I think some Comp Ultra Magnum or Harland Sharp roller rockers would be worth 10 hp, or more with a 1.6 ratio. Might need more valvespring to delay the onset of float. 18 inch header extensions might help too, not to mention bigger tubes.

    And made all its power at high rpm.....Kent.

  • @donellmuniz590
    @donellmuniz590 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If your timing and jetting changes aren't making any difference in power, the choke point in the system is elsewhere. That means there's a restriction somewhere. Those heads should be good to about 425 hp, and so should the intake. So you might need more cam, or 1.6 roller rockers for a bit more lift, or 1 and 7/8ths headers, or less preload on the hydraulic lifters. Maybe shim the valvesprings .020 or so to delay valve float. Just my thoughts.

    In this day and age, if you believe the magazines and tv shows, 400 hp should be a piece of cake. But I'm sure the owner wants it to have decent manners, driveability, good vacuum, etc. More cam might mess that up. But those new Trick Flow 190cc heads should be good for another 30 or 40 hp, with no penalty other than cost. And it's a shame the guy didn't request a stroker crank. A 408 will stomp a 340 every time.

Got a used one last august now it lost reverse, so I had the original one rebuilt better than stock. Was not cheap, $1750.00 us with converter. 3 year 100,000 mile warranty. The 2 plane intake was killing the power number. I was sure when the camera went to the carb gaskets and spacers, that you had seen the light LOL.
